Mexican Sugar is a popular spot that started in Plano, TX, where my girlfriends and I used to have the best time, so I was excited when they opened a location at The Domain. This location in particular is absolutely beautiful. The moment you walk in, you instantly feel like you're going to have a good time. The drinks are solid, though they do lean a bit sweet, and the food is consistently good. My husband ordered the pastor tacos, and he can be pretty picky about tacos, especially pastor, but he loved how they prepared theirs. I took a bite and have to agree--it was a really good taco. All in all, Mexican Sugar is a great spot with a beautiful space, solid food, and fun drinks. It would be perfect for larger groups, corporate dinners, celebrations, or a lively night out.

Great spot in the heart of The Domain! The restaurant is top-notch with an upscale Mexican vibe. I loved the ambiance, lighting, décor, and beautiful finishes throughout. The long bar is a great touch, and the music created a fun Latin atmosphere without feeling overdone. I've been to the Dallas/Plano location, but this one feels much more modern since it's brand new. Our server (I wish I remembered his name) was excellent and gave us great recommendations. The drinks were delicious, and the food was flavorful. The only downside is parking. Since it's in the middle of The Domain, you may have to park in a garage and walk, though valet is available for $20. Shoutout to the hostess who was kind enough to seat us inside even though the table had a later reservation, and she let us know ahead of time when we'd need to leave. We really appreciated that since it was too hot to sit outside. Overall, great service, great food, and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd definitely come back!

Ambiance: 5/5: Loved the ambiance of this restaurant. It had candles throughout the entire restaurant, the lighting was warm, the music wasn't super loud, plates and table decor were very cute, and they had throw pillows all around. Service: 5/5: Our waiter did an excellent job. Gave us a small rundown of what makes this restaurant different, made recommendations, and checked on our table often. Food: 4/5: loved that everything is made from scratch. The salsa and chips were pretty good. Salsa had a unique warm flavor. Chicken quesadilla is listed as an appetizer, but it's large enough to be an entree. Flavors were pretty good. The brasas chicken tacos were good as well, maybe a little on the dry side tho. Nothing really blew me out of the water, but excited to go try some of their other dishes. Drinks: 4/5: The drinks were pretty tasty and unique. My only con with them is that they were a bit too sweet to where we couldnt taste the alcohol. Overall, we had a great time and are excited to come back.

I stopped by for happy hour and, despite having a reservation, was a little disappointed that several walk-in guests were seated before me. Once I was seated on the patio, however, the experience quickly improved. Covered and closed off so no one walks in and out. Nice table setting and perfect spot to people watch. My server was fantastic--knowledgeable, attentive, and great at recommending both food and drinks. Following her suggestions, I ordered the ceviche and the vegetarian quesadilla. I initially planned to order an entrée as well, but the portions were surprisingly generous, and the appetizers alone left me completely satisfied. For drinks, I tried the margarita flight, which included hibiscus, classic, and spicy watermelon flavors. The spicy watermelon was easily my favorite, offering just the right balance of sweetness and heat. When a friend joined me later, I ordered the Chupa mango cocktail, which was another great choice. Parking was a bit hectic, but I got lucky and found a spot in the lot. The restaurant is located where the Ice Cream Museum used to be, across from True Food, making it fairly easy to find once you're in the area. I've heard great things about the enchiladas, so they're definitely on my list for my next visit. Between the excellent service, tasty food, and creative cocktails, I'll be back to try more of the menu.

Mexican Sugar is a decent restaurant. I like the ambiance and setup of the establishment. The service was phenomenal. The food and drinks were adequate. I tried the Classico Margarita and the Lump Crab Enchiladas. The enchiladas were served with black beans and cilantro-lime rice. Good experience here overall!

Stopped in based off an expierence from an alternate location. Decor is trendy/modern with dim lighting. Plenty of large and small tables to accommodate a range of party sizes. Large patio outside. Drinks are good as was service. They were sold out of the civiche.-bummer. Veggie enchiladas were plain- enchilada sauces weren't great, and they seemed to be more tortilla then anything. Tortillas were also a bit thick for my liking. The Squash blossom quesadilla was great as we remembered from last time, full of flavor and fillings! The flan was also really great! perfect texture and nice carmel sauce ! Will be glad to try other options next time we stop in but hope it doesn't disappoint like the enchiladas.

Review #1,072 Posted on 6.11.26 We came here for dinner on Monday June 8th while in town for my buddies 50th birthday bash. This was actually our only opportunity for the whole group to dine together at a sit down dinner. This place is in a pretty big outdoor strip mall in Austin. The inside is really nice, and we got sat right away after arriving, which is always nice when you have a reservation. We got greeted, gave drink orders, then did the food orders. I thought the food, my meal was good. I had chicken & steak fajitas, the meat was tender, and the tortillas fresh. The chips and salsa with guac they brought out were also good. Margarita was tasty, and not too weak, tasted good. Would've like to see a few more options on the main course of the menu, but service & quality were both excellent and I'd easily come back here to eat.

There are no shortages of Tex-Mex places here, so for a chain restaurant to stand out says a lot. First off, the restaurant is MASSIVE but also beautiful. Even the plates they use when they bring out the chips and salsa are stunning! My entire group loved everything we ordered. Some people got tacos, someone got the steak and lobster fajitas, I got the enchiladas. All amazing. The margaritas were also so good too! Everything was also reasonably priced. Our server was wonderful and very friendly. I definitely recommend this place!!

My first time here and it was for my big birthday dinner. We had a party of 19. My friend made a reservation well in advance. Our server was super friendly and the team was very attentive. Are drinks were always filled and the food came out in good time. I really want to thank the crew for making this birthday dinner fun and smooth. Everyone had a good time, had good drinks and great food and mostly lots of laughs. I really enjoyed the arepas, great flavor! And the barbacoa tacos. I will say that the chips are really good but the house salsa is served warm so that was not the usual type of salsa you get at a restaurant. I do recommend the chocolate avocado cake, It was surprisingly delicious! I can't wait to go again and try more food on the menu. Thank you again for a great birthday dinner experience!

The interior is really pretty, I love the design of it! I'm definitely behind on the food scene because I did not know Mexican Sugar replaced the Museum of Ice Cream, which I really loved. So the space is also reallyyy big. We didn't have a reservation and got seated immediately. It looks like a fancy place, but you can also wear casual clothes. You get complimentary chips to start but they add a lot of salt. It was so salty and we didn't get to eat too much of this. The taco plates we got come with rice and refried beans. Honestly, I think the sides were better than the tacos. The tacos were just ok-there are better taco places in Austin. Service is also really slow. We were seated but didn't have a server until 5-10 minutes later? Could definitely be more efficient.

The tortilla soup was warm, rich, and full of flavor--perfectly seasoned broth with tender chicken, crispy tortilla strips, and just the right amount of spice. Every spoonful felt comforting and homemade. The chicken quesadillas were a hit--golden, crispy on the outside and loaded with juicy, well-seasoned chicken and melted cheese inside. Served hot and paired perfectly with sour cream and salsa, making each bite even better. We also order fresh toast sticks. The French toast sticks were to die for. My first time at Mexican Sugar love this place. The service was great. Our food came out nice and warm. Our server came to check on us brought us more water and more napkins. When we asked. It's really nice inside, and it's pretty on the outside. Reset outside to eat because the weather was warm. My daughter recommended this place. And I cannot wait to come back again.

We visited on Saturday to celebrate my friend's birthday with a group of 10, and it was a lovely spot for the occasion. It was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio, and while we didn't get the full indoor ambiance, everything inside looked gorgeous and had a great vibe. The patio overlooks the domain area. There's soon room to bring the vibe inside outside! The margarita flight was a big hit with the table, and the salsa was one of my favorites. It took a little time for the flights to come out, but once they arrived they were worth the wait. Service overall was excellent. Shoutout to Jessie for taking such great care of our group. I enjoyed the carne asada tacos, the rice was also unique and delish. It was a big table, so it was hard to get a full read on every dish, but everyone seemed happy with the overall experience and their meals. Nothing over the top, just a really enjoyable lunch with great service in a beautiful setting. I'd gladly come back and would love to see the restaurant lit up in the evening.

Mexican Sugar is a new mid-upscale restaurant at the Domain and already looks to be a hit where the food and whole doing experience was magnificent. The staff was so nice and easy to talk with. I forgot to make a reservation but was able to site outside in the patio. The place is dog friendly and next time may bring mine. There was a huge bar inside including lots of seating. Recommend to bring a lite jacket where it was a bit chilly inside. I ordered the Brasas Chicken tacos along with a Classico Margarita. Meanwhile chips and and salsa dipping sauce was placed on the table and both were really good. The chips were nice and crispy. The corn tacos contained grilled chicken and consisted of three. Lots of ingredients were in them and worked perfectly together. The sides were biack beans and cilantro-lime rice of which both had their own unique flavor. Basically it all tasted great.

From a design and hospitality standpoint, it's difficult to understand how this made it to opening in its current state. Even a VERY basic understanding of lighting and ambiance would suggest this setup is fundamentally mismatched--ESPECIALLY for something like a date night. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. We Ubered there, so I didn't get a full picture of the parking, but it seems like there may be a little parking garage or validated parking area? Maybe a pay for parking? I would read other reviews. Most of the staff? Fantastic. Professional, warm, funny. Our assigned waitress, however, gave off overwhelmed and low-energy. She was short with communication and it sort of dulled our sparkle for a moment, but the drinks and vibes quickly brought it back. Had we had another waitress, this place would have been a 10 out of 10. On to the drinks: Round one: espresso martinis (made with Tito's). Slightly sweet, bold, smooth, and very sippable. No coffee bean decorations on top, but full of flavor. No cream inside...sort of reminding you of a Black Russian. Served in a ribbed coupe glass. Round two: French 75s with Hendrick's. Punchy lemon flavor, a tad sweet, lower champagne notes but still giving French 75. Garnished with a dried lime slice instead of a lemon. Served elegant in those ribbed coupe glasses (which fit the aesthetic perfectly). The cocktails are well-crafted and intentional. They aren't overly boozy, but they are balanced, smooth and polished. Bathrooms? Immaculate. Unisex. Private stall rooms with their own individual doors. Efficient and modern. No long lines. Opportunity to mingle with the opposite sex in the bathroom if that suits your fancy. Foxtail feels like a good place to start a new chapter. We had good conversations and we enjoyed staying out just a little longer than we planned. Their Happy Hour (4:30-6pm weekdays) is officially on my radar for the future. I'll be back. I want this place to be routine. 9 out of 10.

This place is owned by the same owners as Mama Betty's and it's right next door. We only came here…read morebecause Mama's told us an hour wait. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. It's a very cute bar that you would expect to see in downtown Austin. The service was extremely fast and by the time we got all of our drinks, our table at Mama's was ready. So it definitely was NOT an hour wait. And it was a Saturday. We ordered some wines and the Parmesan fries which were really good. I would definitely come back here again.

We had him choose our charcuterie board for us and we enjoyed all of it. I asked for a sweet red wine and his choice was top notch. The GM Jacob was also very kind. He came to check in on us and made sure we were enjoying our night. The ambiance is very nice as well. Plenty of room and tables and the open kitchen concept is really nice to see. It was cool to see a pizza oven in there too.

From the moment we sat down, the service set a phenomenal tone for the meal. Our server, Avery, genuinely took the time to ask what we were interested in, thoughtfully guiding us through the menu with recommendations that were, frankly, unbelievable. Every single suggestion was spot-on. As for the food, every dish that arrived at the table was a masterpiece: The Brunch Plate: A beautifully classic, elevated breakfast. The sunny-side-up eggs were cooked to absolute perfection, seasoned with a light touch of pepper and spice. Paired with perfectly golden, crispy hash browns, savory sausage, thick-cut toast, and a rich fruit compote, it was a flawless, hearty start to the day. The Beet & Citrus Salad: A vibrant, refreshing standout. The earthy depth of roasted red and golden beets paired wonderfully with bright, juicy citrus segments, creamy crumbled cheese, and fresh greens. It was beautifully balanced, incredibly fresh, and a perfect contrast of textures. The Pesto Pasta: Absolutely spectacular. The pasta shape held onto the rich, flavorful pesto sauce perfectly, which was tossed with fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and tender chicken, all finished with a generous dusting of parmesan. It was savory, comforting, and packed with bright, fresh flavor. Between the flawless, attentive service and the phenomenal quality of the kitchen, they made this Father's Day incredibly memorable. We will absolutely be back!
