*Restaurant Week Review* Had been hearing about this place, so when I saw it on RW, I immediately made a reservation. I did the $35 option and got: - Prawn Ambi: I had to choose the prawn option and it was tasty and unexpectedly spicy. I liked the spice, but if you don't like it I would think twice. The prawn batter could have been a bit crunchier, but was good. - Butter Chicken: Yum! Came with big chunks of chicken and lots of sauce so that you can dip your naan in. - Daal Makhani: really tasty. - Chai Creme Brulee: I was very impressed with this dessert. I couldn't stop eating it. When cooking with chai, sometimes the chai flavoring doesn't come through, and this was perfect. Not too overpowering and just right. Also tried: - Mango Lassi ($8): This drink was delicious. I do think it was way way overpriced so I wouldn't order it again, but if the $8 doesn't bother you then I would def get it. - Aloo Papadi Chaat: Fantastic with such good flavor! When I return I will for sure be ordering this as I think it was the best dish I tried here. - Rosemary Garlic Naan: I have never had naan with rosemary on it, so I had to order and try. It was quite delicious. - Onion Naan: The onion naan was by far my favorite. I loooove onions and this was filled with juicy pieces of onion cooked inside. - Garlic Naan: Really tasty. Overall, the service was a bit slow but we were happy and enjoyed the longer meal. A man, who I assume is the manager, came over to our table and was very funny. Ordered samosas, butter chicken, palak paneer, and mango lassi. We started with the samosas which were AMAZING. They were a little spicy, but paired well with the chutneys that came with it. They were incredibly hot and the outside was crispy. The butter chicken was lacking a little flavor, but was otherwise good. The palak paneer was better than others that I've had, and I really enjoyed the consistency of the sauce. Their garlic naan was soooo good and I liked that it came with a lot of garlic. The mango lassi was thick and creamy, and incredibly refreshing at the same time. I love the vibes of the restaurant--dark tones and low lighting, and the staff was incredibly attentive. This spot has been on my restaurant list for some time but finally got a chance to make a reservation today for dinner with a friend. The restaurant filled up quickly after 7:00 on a Friday evening. It's a cute spot, a little dim but it gives you the right ambiance for a date night or dinner with Friends. The menu is full of good traditional Indian cuisine. We ordered several appetizers, breads and spreads and an entree. The lamb kebabs, roasted eggplant and Naan baskets were my favorites. The mango margaritas and the Pinky Up were tasty cocktails. Great Indian restaurant located on 14th street. The ambiance of the place is nice and elegant. I elected to sit at the bar since it was just me. The bartender was friendly and efficient. The spicy chicken was a good serving and very flavorful, gave a good spicy taste. The garlic naan was baked to perfected to help subdue the spicy flavor. For dessert, I had the chai crème brûlée, which wasn't my favorite. It had too much chai flavor. I am looking forward to going back to try more dishes. read more

In all honesty, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. TLDR to my review - seafood was amazing here, the rest of the food was great and service sucked. We celebrated Ragz' birthday here on a Monday night and they were busy but super short staffed. My request for a birthday candle was wholeheartedly ignored, but no worries, we moved on. Their drinks are ridiculously overpriced and nothing to write home about, tbh. Even for dc standards, $12 for a beer is a bit much. We really liked a lot of items on their appetizer section and ended up ordering 4 of these. The crab pao was my personal favorite - cooked to perfection, no fishy smells and a perfect bun. I'd come back just for the pav. Close second was the banana leaf branzino - melt in your mouth texture and very delicately flavored, wrapped and steamed in a banana leaf. We also had the paneer achari. The paneer was soft and seasoned well, but what made the dish was the little side of pickled onion salad that was absolutely delicious. We also had the spicy chicken tikka - flavorful but almost on the verge of being overdone. Delicious regardless. Ragz had the laal Maas and liked it, but nothing he would get again. The bread basket was a delight - I loved trying all the different breads. However, DO NOT get the Amritsari Kulcha - it was basically a big wad of dough, no filling and a complete failure. For desserts, we shared the gulab jamun (delicious with the cardamom ice cream), tres leches ( very tasty again and Genius pairing of flavors). But the Kheer - absolutely phenomenal! I'd come back for this too! It was the perfect amount of sweetness and and rice was cooked just right. Overall, I think the chef deserves a round of applause for both inception and execution of his menu. It's been a minute since I was so impressed with a fancy Indian restaurant. Bec they were short staffed, food took forever to arrive, came out of order, some dishes disappeared and our server went ahead and started bartending, forgetting about us. If they figure out these logistics, they can continue to be a very nice addition to the dc food scene and I'm excited for them. I'm actually looking forward to being back at some point and grant that missing 5th star on Yelp. read more

Vibe- the space is beautifully decorated, calm, and casual Service- our server was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. Drinks- We had tea. There were a nice selection, which was nice. The ginger tea was lovely, and while the tea pots were pretty they are not functional. Tea went everywhere and hard to pour when hot. Came in here last night with my fellow yelp elite bestie and we were both excited as foodies who have heard great things about this place. We can confirm it is worth the hype. The trendy decor set a great scene. The bar tender was great and let us sample the drinks before ordering- I had the happy hour gimlet and it was delicious and strong! They don't skimp on the alcohol. The flavor of the drink paired well with the food. My friend had the margarita and we both agreed we preferred the gimlet: Margarita was very sweet. For food we had the happy hour mussels - absolutely delicious, naan and chutney sampler, and (I'm blanking on the name) but chicken appetizer. All the food was mouth watering good. Packed with flavor, and very well cooked. This place is a local gem. Definitely one of the most under rated spots in the area - I would highly recommend a trip in or even order carry out if you're staying nearby! I'd say the naan is a good single portion but I love naan. So, for some maybe this could work for two. The chicken was great cuts and spiced woth explosions of great flavor. Lots of good sauce. 4 stars and no pictures, you know I had a good time! I stopped by with a couple friends to check this place out. After a busy day, we were looking forward to a good meal, instead we got a great one! We ordered the Spicy Chicken Tikka, the Big Shrimp Coconut Curry, Butter Chicken, and although they were out of a lot of dessert options the cake was delicious! Loved this restaurant. We came in for lunch with our toddler and loved everything we ordered. We got a maharani thaali and one veg thaali that were both absolutely delicious. Our toddler enjoyed the food too. I particularly loved the Amritsari kulcha. The closest Indian restaurant to us and their food pictures looked really good so we headed to Pappe. Ambience was way better than what we expected, they service was friendly and quick. Parking on a Saturday night was tough, we waited for a while for my husband to get there before we ordered and they were very patient. I got the Goan smoke cocktail (mezcal, pineapple, ginger, green Thai chilli) it was one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time . For apps we got the gobi Manchurian (it was too tangy for our liking, very heavy on the spices and really hard not crispy fired batter covering of the gobi), the spicy chicken tikka was amazing, it was well cooked and beautifully spiced. The paneer butter masala was average but not bad, the mint laccha Paratha was nice but too charred on one side, we also got a side of the wild mushroom khichdi that was mild and yum. The prices are a bit much for the portion, but I would definitely go back to try the other items on the menu if they come close to the tikka. P.S. They don't compare to Pappe. Not close!! For starters, the hostess (Alison) greeted us as we walked in and could not have been nicer! We didn't have a reservation but she treated us so nicely. We then got a great table and our waiter Sammy introduced himself. This gentleman was the nicest guy we've ever had as a waiter. So knowledgeable, understanding of our likes and dislikes, just super super nice!! Unbelievable!! He then gave us some recommendations which we went with. WOW!! So delicious!!! We ordered drinks, appetizers, the nan and chutney flight and the main meal!! SO DELICIOUS!!! Crazy delicious!! And the service was second to none!! They replaced our dishes twice to ensure we had clean plates, Sammy consistently checked on us, made sure we were happy, .... Portion sizes are super small and flavors are not really that great. Best dish was chicken drumsticks which was more like honey barbecue chicken, naan basket was good. Rest of the dishes failed to impress. Overall full marks for the effort, but the overall experience was pricy and not very satisfying. The interior is a little escape from the busy streets of DC. They had wonderful music playing and it was a relaxing atmosphere. The staff is friendly and efficient. I tried the Pino noir which was delicious. I ordered the coconut curry shrimp and the garlic naan. The flavors were magnificent! There was a spicy, full flavor and the prawns were large. The curries, Naan, appetizers, you name it are usually quite good and bursting with flavor. Our server this time was great and took very good care of us. The restaurant seems to be somewhat busy but never too busy to fit a medium-sized group of us when we stop by. Decided to get some takeout from pappe during our recent stay in dc.... And it must have been an off night for them. We had spoken with the restaurant and requested no cilantro on the dishes.... And that was clearly not taken care of. Then, we tried the raita, which is usually used to cool the pallet when eating spicy food... but their raita was spicier than the food. The final straw was the hair in the Roti.... In speaking with the restaurant... the person who answered the phone was rude... finally ended up speaking to the owner and his basic response was that they must have been having an off night. read more

My server Victor was attentive and congenial and the food was extraordinary, maybe the best Indian meal I've ever had. Wish I lived here as I'd be a regular for sure. I started with the Lamb Ribs with a light, not too sweet tamarind glaze on top of a wonderful creamy mustard/mint sauce wtih some greens and sliced red onions. Came here for dinner with some coworkers recently and had a great time! This is definitely a more modern Indian spot, catering to more towards millennials, so everything from the cocktail menu to the drapery on the walls to the moody lighting is very much my style. I also love that they have complimentary sparkling water in addition to flat. We'd come from an event so we weren't super starving, and decided to split a few things. We started with the Banana Leaf Branzino which was really tasty but definitely had a bit of a kick to it. One of my friends is gluten-free and luckily most of the menu is gf and they spell everything out very carefully so basically anyone with dietary restrictions can feel safe to eat here. We ended up splitting the chicken tikka masala and the butter paneer masala and both were delicious. I love a good paneer dish! They also brought plenty of rice which was very handy. Let's be clear...this is the kind of Desi restaurant that draw well-to-do White diners who eat samosas with a knife and fork, but that doesn't mean the food is bad. The dahi puri was satisfyingly yummy. The naan was really good. The spicy chicken tikka was more of a mix between chicken tikka and chicken 65, but was good. The garlic dal fry was okay and the raita was really good - thick and flavorful. All the dishes was expensive considering the amount of food you get, except for the chicken.
