I really enjoy this restaurant. Good food every time. There aren't many places to eat in the surrounding area so Pappy Gander is appreciated. There's even a small area for gambling in the back. We stopped in on our way home to Seattle from Reno. This place is adorable! The menu offers something for everyone and most dishes are made from scratch. We all had breakfast - eggs over easy, polish sausage, and a Denver omelette. Delicious! Our server was also our cook and her home town charm and humor sealed our love of the place. Our coffee cups were never empty. We'll be back on our next trip down Highway 39! Next time, we want to try the cobblers! read more

We happened to go by this spot and were way past being ready for lunch. I was hesitant because one of the reviews was not so good, and there were not many customers inside. We decided to take a chance and we were glad we did. The staff was very friendly and courteous and we just happened to stop in when things were quiet. The food was fabulous and there was plenty of it. And then there was the decor. Lots of stuffed animals and animal type decor to be seen, which we got a kick out of. It is A-OK. I stopped because I saw the Man on the wall. Looked up the reviews and gave it a shot. The wifi is pretty slow, unfortunately. The food was good, but the portion size of a whole order of French Toast seemed a bit small. The cook delivered it himself. It was super tasty, too. If I was still hungry, I'd order more just because it was cooked to perfection. The service was mediocre and not quite friendly... not rude but not personable whatsoever. My needs were met and I feel it is a strong three stars. Can't quite say, "Yay, I'm a fan." I doubt I'd stop here again. If you're looking for some good home cooking and you don't need high speed internet, you're experience is likely to be a good one overall. The waterfowl theme of decor is cute. read more

I have lived in the area now for 5 years and have given this establishment a good honest go on maybe 4 different occasions, and vowed today ...never ever to go back!! Last visited here twenty years ago and it was great, so we were excited to get back again. Major disappointment. The wait for our food seemed endless, The burgers seemed to be a bit small for 1/3 lb patties, the fries were rather feckless, pretty much what you would expect at Denny's but at artisan prices. I ordered a patty melt. I expected caramelized onions served on a meat patty with cheese and either sourdough or rye bread. What I got was served on something referred to as "Texas Toast"and the onions were raw. When I complained, I was told that was "just how they made them". Hmmm. Walking by the kitchen, cleanliness was questionable, and our table was sticky. Better dining a few minutes up the road in K Falls. We'll never stop in again. read more

On our way through and found this on Yelp. Decided to give it a try. Waitress was friendly and suggested the chicken fried steak breakfast as one of their best things. Sorry, smelled so good when it was served that I tore into it before thinking of a picture for you all. Meat was good and the breading not overpowering. Gravy was delicious and perfect amount of pepper. Home fries were fresh and cooked extra crispy at my request. Eggs were not overcooked, good yolk flavor to add to gravy taste. Went here on a business lunch and had breakfast for lunch. Service was fairly quick and the Ham and Cheese Omelet was great as was the Home Style Potatoes- WOWSER! Toast was good and old-school. Coffee was weak (I'm used to Jet Fuel). I hear this place has changed hands over the years and this current owner is really making a go of it. Stopped by for dinner with three friends for the first time. Ordered the famous chicken fried steak. Obviously microwaved from frozen and then covered with about two pounds of bland lukewarm gravy. Two bites then gag. Actually I didn't gag. The other guys at my table did when I braved a bite. Horrid! Tried to salvage by scraping the gravy off but removing the mask didn't make things prettier. The steaks my friends ordered were third rate quality, but at least hey could manage to forced them down after a long day of hunting. Waitress never checked on us and then apologized when cleaning the table off, but didn't offer options. We agreed that a frozen burrito and six pack from seven-eleven would have been far more satisfying and a lot less expensive. This could be an isolated experience so my review is based upon the poor quality of the food the restaurant buys from its suppliers. You can have the greatest cook and wait staff but when the quality is this poor the customer walks away disappointed. read more

This place was great. The chicken fried steak was crispy and the gravy was creamy and that's all anyone really wants in life. The onion rings are fab and but the smokehouse burger felt like a frozenCostco patty dripping thin bottled bbq sauce. No real complaints though. It's a little dingy and I hope you like country music. The decor is guns and ammo posters and dead animals so vegans beware... but it's charming. It looks like someone covered the chairs with cammo vinyl and the plastic pink and cammo plates are cute. Great place to get comfort food at a reasonable price. Quick and friendly service. I don't eat starches and they had no problem subbing cottage cheese for the toast and taters. Always a good sign. This place used to be a meeting spot for local ranchers and farmers that surrounded the tiny town of Merrill, Oregon where a person could go get a ton of great food for very little money. It was a rural destination. It had a reputation for being fabulous. Now it's that same group of aging farm folk (and the occasional passerby), and even the same price, but someone walked off with decades of recipes. I assume this place is under new management, with all the new faces behind the counter, and it shows. Sorry if it pisses people off, this is simply my opinion. Don't expect gourmet cuisine, but do enjoy a place that stays true to the country flair, with most things homemade, the only place in the county that knows how to make crispy home fries, pies and cobblers, and even biscuits. Paid $2 more for an upsized burger which was no bigger than the regular sized one had to eat the fry bits with a fork cause they were too small to eat with my fingers. The onions were old and dry to the point I couldn't cut them with my teeth. Burger was overcooked to the point it was nearly a hockey puck. Never was asked how the meal was. Holy cow, this was delicious! Our hotel in Klamath Falls screwed us because of the eclipse and deleted our reservation. Thankfully we found a very modest motel in Merrill, so we are at Pappy Ganders by accident. Service was fast and friendly. Juice serving was large. We had the western omelet which had tons of bacon, cheese and other fillings. The hash browns were truly from scratch and dark brown as I love them. Only came here as our men wanted real breakfast, but then I ate a good chunk of my husband's food . Highly recommend, at least for breakfast. read more

First, I would like to comment on the nice service and friendly waitress. My wife and I arrived at about 7:59pm, and then realized they closed at 8:00pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant. She stayed open for us and we had a yummy dinner. So nice of her to do that for us! We came back the next night eat there as well, only we made sure we arrived about an hour earlier. Good selection on the menu for a restaurant in a very small town. Food was good and portions were generous, and again, very nice and friendly waitress. Fun bird hunter decor. read more
