We arrived on a Friday evening just after 6:30 pm. We had been slowly working our way up I-95 heading north and it was time to take a meal break. I was surprised that there weren't more cars in the parking lot. They are setup to handle a large number of people. It is in an industrial area east of I-95 and it seems, both from the menu and the reviews here on yelp that brunch is their main source of traffic. They close at 9pm on Fridays. It has a family-owned business vibe and they seem to have found their niche. We enjoyed our meal. Lori provided excellent service. There is enough variety on the menu that everyone in our small group were able to find just what they wanted. I would class this as an American diner with a Mediterranean tilt. We started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer and spinach spanakopita. It was excellent. I really liked the tzatziki with the spanakopita. For the main course we had NY steak, pork chops, and Greek Salad. Food taste and quality were great. We had some left-overs that we took with us. It was time to get back on the road and continue the trek northward on a congested I-95. If I didn't have several hours of driving ahead of me I would have indulged in their delicious looking deserts. read more

We went here for the first time today, and Paradise Diner really is a hidden gem. The food was great, as was the entire experience. The biscuit was particularly phenomenal. A really nice family atmosphere, as it clearly was a family-run restaurant, with kids bussing tables. Very old school. The server, who was probably an owner, was very friendly, and the food came out quickly. We really felt comfortable there. There were fabulous desserts on display in a refrigerated case when you walk in. Don't let outward appearances throw you. I can think of at least four things that will might scare you away when you drive by, which lead me to say "Don't judge a book by its cover" on this fabulous diner. 1. It is in a run-down commercial area. US Route 17 in the immediate area of the south side of Interstate 95 has definitely seen better days. It really is bad. But you can't blame the restaurant owner for the demise of the surrounding area. 2. The specific location of the restaurant is a bit off putting. There's a couple of junked trucks in the back of the parking lot, which is more representative of the general area than it is of the restaurant. The parking lot could definitely use an upgrade. 3. The way the parking lot is laid out can make you think that they don't have any customers, which may scare you away. The reality is that customer parking is on the sides of the building, not in the front. There are no actually parking spaces in the front, as it's all a fire lane. So, what looks like an empty parking out in the front is actually an oversized fire lane. It's very deceiving. 4. The old school interior was developed organically. It is a totally mish-mash of furniture that was probably purchased at estate sales and bankruptcy sales. In a world of chain restaurants where everything is pre-fabricated and standardized, the interior at Paradise Diner seems almost Willy Wonka-ish. However, everything is clean...it just "doesn't match" like most modern-day restaurants. Breakfast is served all day. Note they are open seven days a week, but they are only open until 4:00pm on Sundays. We will definitely be going back. read more

Starting off, my wife's food was mostly OK. Her grits were lumpy and very thick though. My food was not OK. My home fries were burnt in many places, my scrambled eggs were supposed to be 3 eggs but based on the portion size, it was either 2 large eggs or 3 medium eggs, lastly, I got the steak. Worst steak I have ever gotten in a restaurant. Cheap cut, old, freezer burnt and it was supposed to be medium rare but cooked well done. Good thing though because i might have had more intestinal issues than I got. Needless to say, I had to run in Costco to make it to the bathroom. Just lefy Paradise. I got the best veggie and cheese omelette I have ever had. Beats Bob Evans omelettes hands down. Bacon was fresh off the grill and delicious. I don't know her name but the waitress/owner always remembers us and unless we change them, our regular orders. Came across this hidden gem in Fredericksburg while on a winter ride. The inside is an eclectically decorated small diner, and I was greeted immediately by I did have to wait a few minutes for a table, as it was pretty busy. I had the Chipped Beef combo #2, and it was PERFECT. The eggs were just right, the gravy had a smooth texture with no grit, and the perfect flavor. The biscuit had the right texture for the gravy. The home fries (with peppers!) complemented the rest of the meal very well. I left well filled, but not overstuffed. The coffee was piping hot, and was exactly as expected. Great, friendly folks who seem to enjoy what they're doing, because everyone had a genuine smile on their face. Well, one waitress didn't smile...but she didn't growl either, so we're winning! Food was terrific. We came there for breakfast before my son's baseball tournament and the food hit the spot! Omelettes (I had ham and cheese) were small-ish but come to think of it, not a bad size. Definitely two eggs not three. My son had some sort of breakfast sandwich that he loved. Coffee was delicious. All-in-all, a really good breakfast experience. When we're on a road trip we love getting off the interstate to find somewhere to stop for breakfast. We look for an old-school diner, preferably with deep booths, 60s decor, filled with locals and all the classics on the menu. Paradise Diner fit the bill perfectly! Nothin' too fancy, just a really lovely restaurant, staffed by the friendliest people, adorable decor and very neat and clean. And our breakfast was delicious. Came here on a whim. The service is welcoming and kind. Did a great job interacting. The place was clean and appeared to have plenty of aesthetics to show the culture. It was quiet as well. I ordered a simple cheese burger and onion rings. Burger was cooked to order but the rings were a little too processed. It was not freshly made. Wife has a Greek burger which was tasty. I have tried this place 3 times. The food hasn't been bad but... the service was terrible, even on a take out order. Ordered online 20 minutes ahead, walk in to pick up my order and they never checked the computer and didn't start it. 30 minutes later, finally get our food. She told me a few min, I had my kids in the car and then she disappeared and avoided me. The other issue is the building, this thing is in major need of a health inspection. It stinks and it just feels dirty. We came in the summer and walked out the first time because there was no AC. Trying to support local small businesses shouldn't be this hard to do. read more

I didn't think you could mess up breakfast that bad, but this place has proven me wrong. The sausage links were undercooked and had a weird taste, almost like they were spoiled. My pancakes were dense, flat, and had a strong taste of batter. I drowned them in butter and syrup to try and disguise the uncooked taste, but it did not work. The homefries were ok, but nothing special, and the sausage patties we sswitched to tasted like the Jimmy Dean sausages you get at the frozen section of a supermarket. Overall, the food was terrible, not sure how this place has survived as long as they have serving the food they have. The service was good, the only real saving grace to this place. Waitress was pleasant and took good care of us. Ambiance was dreadful, with terrible decor, dirty chandeliers over our table, and just a sensense of bleakness that makes you want to leave ASAP. Overall, I can say this is my last visit to this place unless ownership/management changes and they turn things around. I would not recommend for any meal. read more

My son loves their breakfast, so I decided to order us some steak and cheese subs for dinner, which comes with a side of fries. It was ordered through DoorDash and it took awhile to get it. The steak was real steak, but it was chewy and some parts couldn't be eaten. The fries were a strange, floppy, thin steak fry looking thing that I've never seen before. It was cold, soggy and floppy. The food and the service could use some significant improvement. The food can sometimes be good. My boyfriend and I have been here twice now. The first was good enough for us to return and try again. The second time was a tremendous let down. He ordered fried oyster plate. The fry oil was clearly so dirty they tasted awful. It was visible when they bright the plate. Our breakfast/lunch food was okay. Service was quick and very friendly. we obtained 4 scrumptious looking greek desserts to take with us. The waitress informed us they were from a Greek bakery near Washington, DC. well, they were probably great 3-4 days ago but when we tried them they were stale and molded. Horrible tasting. We tossed all four desserts into the trash and learned a lesson on how not to spend $32 on 4 stale desserts. We were very disappointed and will not be returning. read more

Just stopped in again about a month or so ago and had a good meal. However, beware that they now have an additional charge on the receipt that they don't tell you about expecting you to miss it. When I asked about the charge, they said it was a fee that the owners added for using a credit card to pay your bill. Paradise is a nice old fashioned diner. Only one problem. We went there as we always do for a great Anniversary dinner. This one included shrimp and other fish. We believe It was undercooked because my spouse and I were pretty ill for two days and had to get an RX. The only thing we will order now is breakfast. The owner was there helping (I'm assuming) everyone was super friendly!! It's a very small place, ambience is entertaining to say the least. The food here isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. I much prefer this place over Amy's cafe which is just down the street. The people here a nice and have a good attitude and overall good service. One major critique I have is the air quality in here, it is pretty difficult to breath because of all of the grease coming out of the kitchen. How are they on their dinners? That's what I am now wondering. I do want to try them for dinner, even though breakfast was sorta a bust. My husband and I are frequent restaurant diners, who especially enjoy trying new places. We are making our way around Fredericksburg, hoping to find and rate the best breakfast in the area. This weekend, we tried the Paradise Diner. Sitting off of Route 17 in the Falmouth area, this restaurant was a bit of a drive for us, but we were hungry and looking forward to a delicious breakfast. Reviews were read, photos were viewed and tummies were ready. We pulled in on a late Sunday morning to a full lot. Some people were coming for breakfast; some for lunch. Coming from Route 1, Jefferson Davis Highway, we pulled in to the right of the building. We saw diners on the front patio, and took an available spot towards the back end of the lot. We saw some Greek statues and a set of double doors. We tried the doors, but they wouldn't open. I thought that they were jammed, so I kept pulling. A waitress unlocks them and opens them. There was no sign that said, "Please use front entrance". But on the inside of the door, it does read, "Emergency Exit Only". A sign on the exterior of the door would be helpful to those of us who've never been there. The hostess stated that it would be a minute for a booth, as an older gentleman was midway through clearing a table. However, he stopped, walked over to us and sat us at a different booth, that was already available and cleaned. Soon after, a waitress came for our drink orders. We both ordered a cup of coffee and an ice water. When she returned with our coffee, she asked if we were ready to order. Umm...we hadn't even been given menus; let alone had a chance to review them! Plus, it's our first time here...we don't know what you serve (well not exactly). So she brings us a couple of menus and gives us a couple of minutes, then returns and says, "Ready now?"...as if we had taken sooo much time to order. I disregarded her and we noted that we were in fact ready. We were splitting the #10 "Alex Special", which includes 3 eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, home fries and toast or biscuit for $10.50 (there was a 50 cent up charge to get the biscuit instead of toast, so it came to $11.00). We also ordered a cup of sausage gravy and a hotcake a la carte. Our meal with tax came to almost $18. Now, the food. Coffee: Nasty. We skipped refills. Eggs scrambled: Good. Fluffy. Ham: Delicious. Made perfectly. Sausage: Thumbs down on flavor. Small rounds. Tasted more like mini hamburgers. Bacon: Thumbs way way down. Flimsy and funky flavor. Sausage gravy: Perhaps the worst I have ever tasted. Bland...only tasted flour. Biscuit: Huge. Fluffy. One of the best biscuits I've ever had. If only the gravy was decent. Hotcake: Brought out cold, otherwise it might have been good. There was nothing "hot" about this hotcake. Home fries: Decent. Soft potatoes made differently than I'm used to, but not bad. Just different. I am truly curious about dinner. But there will be no other breakfasts here. Sorry, they missed the mark. read more
