Feeling like you need to get out of Iowa and go on vacation? No need. This place brings the flavors of India to Hiawatha without breaking the bank! Depressed with the winter gloom? Seriously, this place can help. Try their Rasam soup, a little spicy-for some, but full of so much flavor!!! Didn't expect much from the veg noodles but again, packed full of flavor! Despite pre-ordering, our meal arrived a full 30 minutes late. A delay so predictable, it might as well be part of the script. From what I've heard, this isn't a one-time twist--it's a recurring subplot. And the response from management? Less "We're so sorry" and more "This is just how the story goes." Here's the plot twist: I'd still come back. The food is that good. But sadly, the rest of my family won't be returning for an encore. Five stars for flavor, minus two for timing and tone. Our first visit to Paradise Indian Grill was earlier today (Saturday) for their Brunch Buffet. We were seated immediately upon entering and the wait staff kept our sodas topped off...there were a few big screen televisions on the walls and one one showing how to make some Indian dishes, showing the ingredients, amounts, and step by step instructions...found that very interesting. They had a number of tasty choices to choose from on the buffet line and my favorites were the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Chili Chicken, and the Naan Bread. The Baby Corn Manchurian was a nice surprise as well. The chicken dishes had a nice level of spice and the rice choices were served up perfectly cooked...my only complaint, and its on me for getting there a little late, was that the amount of each of the foods on the buffet was a little on the light side. I wish they would have restocked the items...when they brought out some fresh Naan Bread it was warm and delicious. read more

Super delicious food and very good service. I live in Chicago and am always in the lookout for good food in Cedar Rapids and this place is a place that I frequent when I'm in town. My friend and I like the butter chicken, dal makhani, naan, samosa, and eggplant appetizer (I forget the name of the last one). Thanks for consistently great food and great service. Paradise Grill used to be fantastic. Lately, it seems like they don't try hard to provide good customer service. I ordered a take out order and didn't bother to take everything out of the bag to verify the order was correct until I got home. When I got home, I discovered that one item was not correct. Pictures below show receipt of what was ordered, what should have been provided and what was provided instead. Also, the yellow stuff provided was VERY bland. Regarding the Biryani, we used to always get a yogurt topping on the side, but not anymore. Just seems like quality and customer service is going down quickly. Has anyone tried Delhicacy? My favorite restaurant in Cedar Rapids is Taste of India, so the Indian bar is set pretty high. The look and feel of Paradise is completely unlike a typical Indian place - this one is very "American"ized and a place you'd expect to find more American style food. The service was fine but we were one of maybe 3 tables in there at 1:30ish on a Saturday afternoon and the food took what felt like forever. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the food. It was definitely no Taste of India, but for a place like this it was decent. The portions are good sized, the naan (we had bullet and garlic) was delicious, the chutney was good. Overall it's a decent place to try out. But to satisfy my personal Indian cravings I'll likely stick to TOI. read more

Its actually a saying at my work place if you want to reach me on Friday and I am not answering call up Paradise. Karan will be there... lol i was one of the few people who were invited at their opening and their food is delicious. Appetizers Chicken65 and Goat Sukha is to die for. And beware Goat sukha can be spicy. Their servers are super friendly and I love going there to be treated nice. Also their owner is friendly and knows his stuff. He helped us order good food. He explained why chicken65 is called as that(do ask them :P). Love their Chicken Lollipop too. And be prepared to wait on Fridays they are busy.... read more

My magic eight ball indicates this place wont last much longer. A normally busy dining room at the Fountains, even on a weeknight, was completely dead at their new location. 1 table at 5:30 PM. I'd ordered takeout of Chili Chicken, Samosas, and Bullet Naan, which was promised in 30 minutes -- it was closer to an hour as I sat at their bar waiting for it to be completed. As I sat, I noticed the bar was unkept and the hostess also appeared to be the bartender -- which is fine given the current climate, but it just seemed off, frankly. The food itself was just ok. The chili chicken was no where near the quality it was at the previous location, and even asking for extra chili's yielded no extra chili's (a prior visit, which I did not review from a week ago yielded *NO* chili's). Sadly, after many visits to Paradise at both locations, this is my last visit to this establishment. I've yet to try Persis, but will give it a try based on other reviews. read more

I wish I found Paradise sooner! The flavors and quality of the dishes were amazing. You can customized your spice level 1-5. I found this was accurate though for those who want fire heat should specify that when ordering. The chef makes all curries and naan from scratch. We came for dinner - socially distanced and all staff were masked. We ordered everything in level 3: Chicken Majestic - fried chicken pieces in a curry sauce - excellent and tender with so much flavor. A great appetizer. Garlic naan-- fresh homemade naan coated in oil, herbs and garlic-- very aromatic. Chicken Tikka masala-- tender chicken in a flavorful tomato style sauce -- very good. Butter chicken - my favorite dish and apparently the chefs favorite to make. This dish had so many complex flavors from the sauce I would drink it if I could. We also ordered cocktails (mojito and old fashion) I will say it was a well done mojito -- muddled and well balanced with real ingredients. Our service was impeccable-- the chef even came out so we could gush over the meal. Pricing - appetizers and entrees were around $10-14 and portions were standard. I am unsure why some reviews said it was expensive. Maybe compared to buffet lunch pricing, but for the quality and freshness of ingredients, I think it was very fair. For those nervous about trying new foods- I recommend trying paradise for the fullness of flavors. Stick with the butter chicken -- you won't be disappointed! read more

Paradise Grill recently relocated from next to the HyVee on Edgewood Road to their new location in a small strip mall off Blair's Ferry Road. The new restaurant is a lot smaller and not nearly as nice inside. We were greeted with printed menus rather than the pictorial menus used previously. Even though it was only about 6 pm and the number of items on the menu was greatly reduced they were out of many menu items that we wanted to order. The items that we did order were not as good as I remember from previous visits. Previously I rated this restaurant as "4 stars" but since they have downgraded their menu, restaurant size and ambiance, I think it is appropriate to downgrade my rating as well. read more

I went here the other night with my family and it was amazing. Best fries I've EVER had. Do yourself a favor and get them & you won't be sorry. I got the butter chicken for my meal and it was delicious. Not to mention every appetizer & entree we ordered was beyond flavorful. The only complaints I have are the portion sizes aren't big enough for the price. I was expecting to have more than enough food but my whole family cleaned our plates. In addition, if you want your dish spicy, request spicy. I requested medium and I couldn't taste any spice at all. Overall, the service was very fast considering how busy it was. I do not know how this place is still open. I am in town visiting from San Diego and brought my family here, and we could NOT have been more disappointed. I'll begin with how terrible the drinks were. Literally even the water tasted like shit. The wine was extremely oxidized (had been left out); the beer was extremely flat; and the Diet Coke tasted like it was a month old. Now onto the atmosphere and employees. When we walked in the employees literally argued with each other as to who would take our party of 6 table. They are obviously not used to having customers come in. Additionally, the wine tasted absolutely terrible! I have been a wine aficionado for years and I can tell when wine has "gone bad." INSTEAD of providing good customer service and taking the glass of wine off of the check, the teenage server decided to argue with me about what expired wine tasted like and even sent out the bartender to argue with me, NOT PROFESSIONAL! I will say the food was very good, but it was completely ruined by the TERRIBLE SERVICE! If the service was even half as good as the food, I could see this restaurant actually sticking around, unlike the previous three locations that have been in that building. I really hope management reads this because I would like to see the restaurant succeed, but for that to happen management would either need to get ALL NEW wait staff, or put the entire wait staff through some type of training. read more

We ordered takeout last night and it was wonderful. Every item had robust flavors. You can tell they take great care to perfectly spice their food. The Special Chicken Biryani was a big hit at our house. The aroma of that dish was inviting. Butter Chicken was tender and sauce was so creamy. The Chloe was spicy and warmed our tummies on a bitterly cold night. The Shrimp Tikka Masala was so delicious; however messy to eat with the shrimp shells still on. Service and food have both gone downhill. We have been to this place many times in the last few years. The past year, there has been a change in quality of the food and the taste of quite a few dishes has changed for the worse. Products used for certain dishes eg the mango lassi etc were clearly going bad (sour yogurt for eg) . The service has led to our decision to not go back ever again. This is saying something, since we as a family often let small things with service slide as long as the food is good. The service is atrocious and unless the restaurant changes something about this , they might not last. Service has been an issue for this restaurant even pre-covid when it first started. But we were able to overlook this thanks to the quality of the food (in the past) . While the service was sub par it was never to a point where they completely neglected us, brought food out more than 45 min after it was ordered. Most recently when we inquired after the order 40 min after it was placed, we got an angry reaction along the lines of "can you see how many people are here". Unless I hear that something has changed dramatically enough with their service that it is worth going back, I for one have no interest in returning. read more

I like Indian food. Though I am neither an Indian nor have a been to India I still like what I've had. Coming from someone who has no expertise beyond looking up Indian recipes, this was sick decent stuff. Some people say, "aw it's not authentic enough" or "it's competing against the other TWO Indian restaurants in town. And I know the other ones do it right." All I have to say about the authenticity nay-sayers is, I found a real life curry leaf in my Andhra Chicken Curry today. I have been all over the country and I have eaten at many Indian restaurants. Comparatively speaking, this place isn't great. I typically do chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. The chicken tikka wasn't great here and lacked chicken (only 3 small cubes). They gave me regular rice instead of jasmine rice which is what the dish is supposed to have. The garlic naan was very rubbery, hard to pull apart, and greasy. I've had worse, but the food quality just isn't up to par with many other Indian places that I've been too. read more
