I wanted to check out this place since I was next door at Dollar Tree. I came in on an early Friday morning thanks to missing out a day at work due to the blackout (and being out pay for the day....) to get a pedicure and callus removal. For $27 I had both things done. Service is unfriendly and once in awhile when the girl actually spoke to me about moving my feet, I couldn't understand a word that she said. This was also the first time that I actually had a pedicure be uncomfortable and painful. The acrylic nails that I got were straight laziness. I didn't get gel but regular nail polish still bubbled, the sides weren't painted and the polish was so watered down you can see through the nail polish. A nail had chipped by the time I got home. I also got my eye brows waxed. She's said, "just a clean up"? I said yes so I assumed she knew what that meant. She went to town and took off so much hair. I walked out of there looking like a chola. Decent - but very inconsistent. This is probably on of the top nail salons in La Mesa and we've been going here consistently since we bought our house our here two years ago. We really want to like them and give more stars but The thing that aggravates us the most (and why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 3) is the really bad massage they give. They should call it 'lotion rub on' instead of 'massage'. I dont need a 5 minute light lotion application...I need a massage! Every time we ask for a harder massage they look totally annoyed with us and push down a tiny fraction harder. We are BIG tippers!.... We'd be so happy to compensate someone for actually 'massaging' like their menu says they do! So, for the false advertising and bad attitude, we're heading over to Spa & Co tomorrow for the first time. I hope they truly give a massage! read more

Do not waste your time here! I had a French tip gel manicure that started peeling after only a few days, so I called and they told me to come back and they would fix it for me. I figured since their French tip peeled I would get a different color. They told me yeah we talked to you this morning right? Yeah no problem. They waited until AFTER they finished to say that they are charging me $25 more!! To fix a service that was done poorly to begin with. They said it was because I changed the color that they had to charge me AGAIN. Mind you I paid $90 for a mani/pedi just a week ago. There are sooo many nail salons around that you will not have to deal with unprofessionalism like this! Then when I tried to voice my concern over never being told that I was being charged they got irritated with me (as I am taking my card out to pay) and kept talking over me and explaining that I could have just came in to fix 1 nail. got a manicure here, wasn't too expensive, but more than i would spend on a regular basis. my friend and i clearly went in together and we were seated across the place from each other. after a quick file (no shaping) and trimming my cuticles, she painted my nails and i was pretty much done. i felt like i was wasting her time, she wanted me out of there. kept talking to the other people around her, only addressing me three times (some question i didn't actually understand, asking me to pay, and telling me to leave). when she was done, she said "ok, done," got up, and told me watch out for my still drying nails as she was walking away. i ended up going over to my friend and sitting next to her to use the fan to dry my nails off. i would give this place another shot to see how they deal with pedicures. i gave this place 4 stars because i didn't feel like she was trying to torture me with the nail file. she was light handed and non-abrasive. i just wasn't happy with how she was so uninterested in being there, but it could have been that we went in at 6pm (they close at 7). read more

This place does great work but don't expect to be seen at the time of your appointment. They are always running late even when you get the 1st appointment at 9am they will be late coming in. I had an appointment at 10am this morning and it is now 10:30 and I'm still waiting. If they didn't do such a good job and I really needed them done I would have thrown a fit and walked out. read more

This is my one and only nail salon I go to to get great looking pink & whites. I also get my eyebrows waxed here too. I've been coming here for quite awhile now and I ALWAYS get compliments on my nails. The place is very clean and everyone who works here is really nice. My nail girl is Paulina. She's Amazing and I highly recommend her to everyone! She is sooo sweet, funny and actually remembers all of her customers, their names and what you talked about the last time you were in. She's talkative, friendly and always makes me feel welcome there. I've never once had to wonder if she was talkin crap behind my back in vietnamese. (As in other nail shops sometimes you wonder....) Paulina does a great job every single time on manis/pedis, waxing etc. There were a few times I've had to see other girls when Paulina wasnt available and each time the other girls did a fantastic job as well!! Everyone that works here listens to what you want, and how you like your nails and gets it perfect! I've never once had a complaint with this place :) read more

Holly did a terrific job on my pink and white nails, probably the best nails i've had! But she did a horrible job on my toes, worst pedicure i've ever had! So if you just need your nails done go to her but go to someone else for toes! she did two coats but the color is very sheer and she missed the sides of my toes! i could have done a better job. Also the price is definitely not the most affordable, i'm from the bay area and fills there with gel and everything were only 21 dollars and they did a great job, here i shelled out 60 dollars before tip for the two services and it was a fill! Had a basic "spa" pedicure for $21. Everything was fine except the strong smell of chemicals and no ventilation. It gave me a headache in the 30 minutes I was in there. Makes me worry what health issues the employees are going to be dealing with after years of working there. It was bad enough to keep me from coming vack. i have been going to this nail salon for a while now.i have to admit i cheat from time to time because it is just a little bit out of the way for me but if i can spear the time and can sell my blood for gas money i would go here alllllllll the time. anywhoo my favorite person is Vivian. She is sooo sweet and friendly and is really good at what she does. she must be one of the sweetest ladies i have ever met .she is never in a rush where you feel like you are paying to bother her. I am really picky about acrylics being to wide or to thick or that lines you get when you get a fill because of the previous set-i think you know what i mean ladies, but she seriously did a great job and i have no complants, Originally when i went today i was thinking about getting the already airbrushed tips and just to have her do the acrylic overlay but there selection is pretty cheezy i must admit. they had some that had flower designs and lame name brand logo designs like gucci and louie-a little too ghetto fabulous for my taste.i opted to pick one of their many different color glitter powders for french tips instead. they had the most i have ever seen. two little display thingys full. i picked this one kind of glitter that looks really thick-kind of like a mosaic picture when its done. i can tell that because of the texture it was really difficult to work with vivian knocked it out with a great conversation the whole time. the fill and having to fix one broken nail was 36.00. yes it is a tad expensive but i love my nails and it is really high quailty powders that they use that one lift a week later. i also noticed that she pulled out brand new filers and buffers . i tipped her large because i seriously know it was alot of hard work. i have had pedicures here also. it is true what all the other yelpers said about feeling at ease knowing that they spa pedicure stations have that cleaning system. but the peds are a little bit pricey. i think their basic starts at 27.00 and the callus treatment 6.00, french tip 3.00 to 4.00 and i like to put gel instead of a top coat because it lasts alot longer in my sneakers and that is 5.00. so you can imagine it can add up, but.........................................piece of mind that you wont get some kind of foot fungus is worth it to me. read more

I decided to try this place out after recommendations from co-workers. I felt rushed after my manicure was done. The lady who was painting my toe nails put my sandles on before the nail polish dried. Three of my toes came out smeared! Also, in less than one week the tips of my toes are already chipping!!!!!!!!! LESS THAN ONE WEEK. Fashion Nails in Rancho San Diego nail polished didn't chip at all...my toe nails grew. The sheliac on my fingers isn't completely spread to the side of my nail. The flower design she painted is also smeared and is also missing color. Lastly, there are bubbles in my nails. I shouldn't have tipped as well as i did. I won't be going here again. I am very disappointed in the services i received today and attitude that Vivian had in doing my nails. I got the opposite of everything I asked for in my nails; thin and natural is what i asked for and I got thick and square uneven. I will NEVER return for any more services from this shop ever! At one time this place always got my nails correct and now I am completely turned off by this place. So now I have to get them fixed and I will not give them a second chance. I'd hate to give a bad review because I've gone many times and had a pleasant experience however, this time it didn't end up well. I tried something new, dip nails. They're supposed to last 3 weeks or more and be way better then gel. They file your nails and lots of dust goes on your hands and dip powder gets everywhere as well and at the end they didn't clean my hands so I left feeling dirty and not refreshed. When I left I noticed one of my nails didn't have the top coat and was the only one left looking "not done." My nails started chipping the very next day and then everyday for the next week. After the first day I went in to have them fixed and the receptionist had a bit of an attitude about it. They got fixed but chipped everyday after that within the very first week. Wouldn't recommend dip here, kind of a waste for $38. However didn't get her name, the lady who touched up my nails NICE. I've been going here for about 6 months. I usually see Tracey and she's always been great! Last Friday, I made an appointment for myself and a friend to get fills. When we got there Tracey was sick and I was put with another girl who was not friendly or personable. I asked for a specific design and showed her a picture, she said she didn't know how to do it, so I asked for a black matte. There was a bridal party that arrived at the same time as us and it seemed like the nail technician just wanted to rush through my nails so she could help with the other customers. During the service, she cut my cuticle as she was using the electric file and then told me that I was moving (which I wasn't)and that's why it happened. She didn't do exactly as I had requested with my nails, but in the end they were good enough so I paid way more than it was worth and left. Next day, three of my nails bubbled and the gel polish started coming off. I went back to the salon and asked her to do them again. She told me that she would redo the three that has gotten the bubbles and peeled, but again implied that it was my fault because I had peeled the nail when they had bubbled. I insisted that she redo then all, not just the three because I wasn't confident the other 7 wouldn't start bubbling and coming off within a few days. I have never had such a poor experience at a nail salon. Totally disappointed. In the end, she begrudgingly redid all of my nails like I asked, but I won't be going there anymore. read more

I have been here before and did not have a great experience. I felt rushed. The place is very clean and they use new utensils on each client. They are always very busy. This was the worst nail salon that I have ever gone to, I had to wait 2 hours to get a gel mani. The gel mani chiped in less than two days and it peeled off in less than 5 days. This place almos never lets me down. I tried going to the "newest salon" across the way and was so dissapointed (twice) that I will never be unfaithful to Paradise again! Jen is awesome-great service, takes her time, pride in her work! I wouldn't suggest the 'older woman' who works here though, she's a bit angry and not sociable. My daughter went there to get a full set of nails with gel. The lady cut her cuticles to the point of bleeding and the whole process was painful and rough. Her cuticles are jaggedy and bruised. When she put her hand under the gel light, it burned the gel to the point it was burning her nail which hurt like heck. She didn't even put the nails close to the cuticle so they already look like they need a fill and it's only been a few days. They look horrible. It seems to be about quantity and not quality...how many they can squeeze in. read more

my mom wanted to treat me to a pedicure, and since this one is really close to home, she made us an appointment. apparently appointments have little value to this place. we waited forever. after finally being sat in the spa chairs, i put my feet in the tub and was scalded. the water was waaaaay too hot. i looked at my mom, and she said she was burned too. wtf? we decided to get one that involved a mask (to soothe our burns) and a more in depth massage. the massage was nothing special. pretty much identical as what you would get with the standard pedi... the upselling here is ridiculous. and the women speak is such a low voice that its hard to hear what they're saying at all. then of course there is the accent.... the "design" i wanted on my toes (black polish with french tips. how difficult is that?) ended up costing me $10. wtf is that? between the below average massage for an extra cost. the basic design for an extra cost. being burned by overheated water. and paying an amount i would only pay if i was having celine dion give me a pedi, i'd say its safe to say i won't be coming here again... oh yeah, and the polish lasted less than a week. awesome. read more

Not that great. Didn't have a bad pedi per se, but the overall experience was not the best. A was left soaking for a pretty good time when one of the girls came and looks like she was gonna start on me when she left abruptely telling me "sorry have a costumer with an appoinment". It took me some good seconds to process what happened ... lol .... in the end kinda happy she left because she didn't seem focused... like she was doing many things while I was seated there with my feet on the water... and she didn't even acknowledge me you know what I mean.... somebody should tell them that pedis and manis should be a pleasant situation, it's not like a life or death thing we had to do... (hint: people spend their disposable income in places with nice costumer service).... anyway, to make the long story short was ready to stand up and leave when another girl came and finally gave me a pedi. She was nice and the 3 stars go to the pedicure she gave me, which was not bad. The color selection for regular colors not gels are not that great either. That is always a red flag for me. So, i was finally going to get my nails done and decided to go here because it was close to home and had decent reviews here. The girl that did my nails seemed ok when we got started. We weren't chatting it up, which is better for me. I hope i dont sound rude or mean but i have a hard time understanding them and I just end up agreeing and smiling to everything they say and then I feel bad for making it seem like I'm blowing them off with my "uh-huh" "ok" "yea". Anywho, so she was carefull with my hands, which I liked, I don't know if I'm too sensitive or they are just a bit rough but I always get some pain here and there from the filing. I was enjoying the music they were playing, so before I left I asked her if it was a CD or radio station and I didn't like the way she responded. She looked annoyed at the fact that I was inquiring about the good music. Took me by suprise, I know it sounds like no big deal but it really annoyed the crap out of me. It's a simple question, keep the good customer service going until I'm out the door. Other than that, I had a good experience. Didn't wait too long and it was well priced. I will be back but I'll make sure not to ask about the music, seems like a big no-no there. read more

Great mani pedi. Clean spa. Comfortable. My shellac manicure lasted a month which is the longest it's ever lasted. The only thing that sucked was that you can only tip in cash which I was not expecting. If you don't have cash they offer ATM inside. I've finally found myself a nail salon! Before moving to the San Diego area I was going to the same nail shop for years (in San Francisco). I didn't know many people here in San Diego and needed to find somewhere that was clean, did nails well and didn't charge me an arm a leg. I live near Grossmont and would see this salon every time I made a trip to Target, so one day I decided to give them a shot. While the prices weren't necessarily cheap the facility was very clean. I don't have a preferred nail technician but every single time I've gone to visit they've always done my nails well. The downside to this place is that you can't add your tip to your credit card receipt which I was used to doing, but there is an atm in the salon itself...also make sure you make an appointment or come during a slow time because you might have to wait at least 45 mins. read more

Not sure if they sanitize everything, seems like all they are concerned about is getting people in, and they don't take the time to properly clean the tools.
