I just found my new nail salon and it's the best. I happened to notice this salon from across the street from Grocery Outlet and stopped by to check it out. I met with the owner who was so nice and inviting so I made an appointment on the spot. Amy was my nail technician and she so nice and personable. I have been coming here for years whenever I get the occasional urge to treat myself to nails and even if it's been a long time between services I always feel welcomed here and leave pleased with the services I received. My usual is the dip manicure with Tina and it's always a pleasure talking with her, I'm always happy with the outcome of the manicure but I also appreciate how she's very gentle with me and she remembers my nails are sensitive which I feel is hard to come by. I came in because my regular salon messed up my nails terribly. I requested them to be fixed twice but they just couldn't get the shape right or French tip. I stoped by Tulip Nail randomly. I explained the situation showed them my wish picture of what I wanted & right away they helped me. I came here because I was across the street and the reviews looked decent. I have a huge sanitary concern for this place. I witnessed someone getting a pedicure and the tub never got cleaned after her (there was no bag etc how some other places have). I never saw my tech once wash her hands in between customers then she picks up dirty foot towels and comes back to work on me.. ugh. Then she legit stopped doing my pedicure to clean up a customers pedicure when they complained. I wanted to scream when she didn't wash her hands. Lesson learned. Don't come to a nail shop just because it is cheaper thinking you will save money. Normally, I visit higher end nail shops in North County but my mom had an appointment here so I decided i'd get my nails done with her as she told me the prices are good. I got an acrylic full set and showed her a photo another Yelp user posted below. Well my result looks very amateur. The polish is streaky, edges are sloppy and ends are not filed even. When Tina was putting the tips on I clearly said not too long and she kept 'trimming' more but it didnt seem to be getting shorter. She also gave a lot of attitude each time I asked to shorten them and kept tugging my arms. She practically begged for the tip at the end! Needless to say i am unhappy with the result. I will now have to refile and shorten them at home. I paid $26 and I guess I got what I paid for. I will gladly go pay $40 next time in my area for professional results. Tina helped me take powder off my real nails without completely destroying my nails. She slow soaked them and let them soften before taking the powder acrylic off. Very much appreciated. She even shaped and filed them and applied cuticle oil. This is usually part of a manicure which is extra. Price for take off if getting no other service is $10, $15 if it has a gel top coat. This was the first time in my life where I ever had to speak up and ask them to correct it. First red flag was not using nail clips to cut my nails just straight up free handing it with a drill. Then color wasn't even fully off from the last nail color (it was a fill). Used way to much product and was clumpy af. She asked me if they look good after filing it down and I said no. Way too much product on my cuticles that it's lifting up! How am I supposed to do my hair if already hair is gonna get stuck in them? Absolutely horrible. She had the audacity to say it's cause I small cuticles .. weird cause I never had that problem in all my years of getting my nails done. Just such laziness and sloppy job. U can tell she was getting irritated because I spoke up but that was literally the first time in all my life I had to ever say something. They were really really bad. Nail salon is located in a small shopping center on the top of Waring and Zion with decent amount of parking. Tried this location on my lunch break because of a recommendation from my co workers sister. Shop is small, but clean and the ladies there were very nice. Saw someone right away, but they seem to have a lot of regulars because everyone who walked in was acknowledged by name. Judy did a gel full set manicure for me and was quick and efficient. She was very nice and careful with my nails and did not cut/burn me at all when doing my set. She paid very close attention to detail which was nice to see her do. Alright, I'm not going to lie, I've been here quite a few times, but this last time I went really nipped it in the butt for me because I will not be returning, and it's sad because I've never had a bad job at this place. I got in, and of course, I already know that their selection of colors is minimum, for what reason? I have no idea, it's a pretty small shop so that may be it, but this time I saw a few new colors! One I loved in particular was a nude pink. So I chose that. The massage went well, I think it's because I cramp'd her style when I asked her to square out my big toe. I've been here plenty, and they NEVER have rounded out my big toe, I've never had it, and I didn't ask for it. I'd think they'd shape your nail according to how it grows naturally but no, she rounded it out as she trimmed it. She started filing my toe nail profusely trying to get it right, it was almost as if I had scolded her, so I felt bad and didn't ask for anything further. She massaged my feet that was AWESOME! When she started painting my toes, she started with a primer... GASP, WHAT THE HELL THOUGH... THE PRIMER WAS A CLEAR GLITTER color? I've never seen that before in my life. LIKE EVER. I stopped her and asked, "Oh umm, is that glitter?" she replied "Primer"... smh. I let her continue. Then I watched as she slowly painted each of my toenails as her hands shook lightly. I've never seen a nail tech with unsteady hands as hers. I feel bad, maybe she didn't have her glasses on or something, because my toes looked terrible after she was done. You could see the streaks of nail polish, it wasn't smoothly painted on my toe, and she missed parts of the nail SMH. SIGH. They've done well in the past, so I won't be too harsh, but this one experience will keep me from returning. read more

I have been a customer here for 8 years ... I come here on average every three weeks because I like it ... not because I have to ... I generally do a gel or shellac polish ... they use both OPI and CND (Creative Nail Design) polishes here which for me will last up to four weeks (although on a darker color I like to do a polish change at two weeks because my nails grow very fast!). They have wonderful massaging spa pedicure chairs, well maintained and meticulously cleaned. All of their tools are also well maintained and very clean. Neither I, nor anyone I have referred here has ever had a fungus or infection. They also do an excellent job on eyebrows and other skin care services. I'd like to try the lashes!! So now, let's address some of the more negative comments I have been reading on these posts. They had one girl here who did not do a good job and did hurt some folks a couple of years ago (including me), she is gone. They also used to be cash only, now they have a machine and charge a small surcharge, however, as another writer mentions, there is an ATM across the street. If you are on a schedule as one writer mentions ...then make an appointment ... they take walk-ins, they are known for that -- however, they do take appointments as well ... and as a long standing customer I can say they are never late ... especially when they know it a BIG OCCASION!!! Customer Service: Its an amazing atmosphere and made me look at life a little differently. I forget the ladies name that does my nails but she's really sweet and literally knows every customer that comes in. While she was doing my nails she talked to me and asked my name, made jokes about possibly forgetting it; however I wasn't offended by it. On the other hand I did notice that the customers that came in were 90yr + which I though was absolutely amazing. So cool to see and one lady even said she had been going there for 30yr+. So that convinced me to come back another time because I thought they must have amazing service and last long. WRONG. My manicures last at the most a week. ): I've had manicures in the past that last up to 4wks. Not to say I wear it that long but for crying out loud 1 week. So disappointing I gave them 2x!! I've been coming here regularly for a little over a year. I only go to "T" so I can't comment on nayone else, but I love her! She does my acrylics and my eyebrows/lip wax. Last time she hurt my pinky a little, and the pinky nail has a kinda weird filed out spot, but for the most part I have no complaints. She takes her time, which I appreciate, and she always makes sure to file out underneath them, which helps me not to pick at them! I dont usually have any lifting, and I go 2-3 weeks between fills. I always end up paying more than I think I should be, and I never quite get why, but its okay. I like her, and I'll keep going to her! Also...I don't know why everyone keeps saying its cash only. Its not. Its $0.50 for credit, but I have always paid with my card. :) read more

I go here regularly to have my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. Loc is the best I have come across in all of San Diego. She really takes the time to shape my brows to my face and then soothe my skin after the wax. I nearly fall asleep every time she massages my head. And you can't beat the price: $13 total. I didn't give a 5 star because I really only go to Loc Nguyen. I can't say I was as impressed by the other techs. And this is a cash only place, which is sometimes way inconvenient. She rushed the pedicure, did one coat and then told me to get off the chair for the next customer.. then I told her that's crazy to do to a customer and she just said oh sorry.. then I was checking out and she said it's 25 bucks.. I'm like the sign says 20.. she told me she got rid of calluses but NEVER mentioned anything about extra payment. I asked her if a regular pedi they just keep the calluses normally on.. (FYI she barely scribed my feet it was like 2 min).. the other girls were sweet and told her that was not ok. Overall not good.. expensive and not worth it. Nail salons are a dime a dozen.
