Sen was AMAZING. I wanted simple, straight forward gel on my natural nails. Sen listened to exactly what I wanted. Didn't try to convince me of anything more or less. She was precise with my cuticles and with painting the polish. She was patient as the color I wanted required 3 coats. She carefully applied each coat perfectly and allowed ample time for it to dry in between. Although they were extremely busy, she never ever made me feel rushed. I rarely ever get my nails done. I'm a simple girl, and anytime I actually did get my nails done in the past, as simple as my request would be, they would ALWAYS somehow find a way to mess them up. Mine literally came out perfect this time! The adorable drink is an added bonus and definitely a nice touch to the experience! I was a walk-in and they took me without hesitation and apologized for the wait which was about 25 min on a very busy Friday afternoon. Just as expected, this nail salon continues to lie about their pricing in their reply to my review. I never asked for extra length nor long nails, period. I specifically asked for the exact same service that was advertised on their menu, which was the *SHORT* and *SQUARE* French tip *ACRYLIC* nails. Nothing more, nothing less. When I was seated, I was initially told by the nail tech that it was $65 until another male tech told her to charge me an additional $5 for the plastic nail tips. Adding nail tips is standard practice when doing full set acrylic nails and is not considered an extra charge at any other nail salon I have ever visited in my life except for The New Era Nails. Even the other nail salon that I visited afterwards agreed and said that it was ridiculous for The New Era Nails to charge extra for nail tips. It's also not surprising that most of their reply fixated on the most minor aspect of my review, which was the wait time. Not only was this not a main complaint of mine, but I specifically noted how the wait to be serviced was "only" 20 minutes. The only reason why I brought up the wait time again at the end of my review was because I had waited for nothing. This was the most insignificant detail of my review, yet they strategically chose to address it more than their scamming and discrimination tactics. The deflection is so obvious. Not to mention how they also failed to address the rude receptionist who lacked customer service skills. What a shame for a business. read more

I visited New Era Nail Salon in La Mesa today after finding them on Instagram, and I was really excited to try it. The salon looks beautiful online--and in person, it absolutely delivers. The decor is modern, luxurious, and very well done. It feels clean, trendy, and like a place you'd genuinely enjoy spending time in. They also offer complimentary drinks, which adds to the experience. I called right when they opened at 9:00 AM and made a 9:30 appointment, specifically requesting a female technician. They confirmed that wouldn't be a problem. The biggest downside--by far--is parking. The salon is in a small plaza near a very popular yoga studio, and even at 9:30 in the morning, it was extremely crowded. There was no parking available, and I had to park on the street and walk about 5-7 minutes. If you're not a fan of walking or are short on time, this can be frustrating. From what I was told, this is an ongoing issue. Once inside, I checked in with the front desk (a woman with glasses who seemed to manage reservations--quiet but polite). I waited about 5-10 minutes before my nail technician, Anne, started my manicure. She did a good job in terms of quality, and she was polite, but not very engaging. I had the sense she was trying to move quickly rather than create a relaxing experience. I asked for a specific color and later a small flower design--she executed it well, but overall I didn't feel a warm or welcoming energy. I probably wouldn't book with her again. For my pedicure, there was a mix-up. Despite clearly requesting a female technician, I was initially assigned a male technician. I had to decline and ended up waiting another ~15 minutes, which was frustrating. That said, Lani completely turned the experience around. She was incredibly friendly, warm, and apologetic for the delay. She took her time, explained things, and made the experience feel relaxing and enjoyable--exactly what you want during "me time." She did an excellent job on my pedicure, and I would absolutely book with her again. She really made the visit worth it. In terms of pricing, it's on the higher side compared to other salons in the area, but not unreasonable given the ambiance and offerings. I chose one of their more premium treatments (the one with honey and orange--it looked amazing on Instagram), and it was a great experience. Overall: beautiful salon, good quality work, but some operational issues--mainly parking, wait times, and not honoring specific requests consistently. Lani was the highlight and the reason I'm giving this 4 stars. Would return--but only if I can book with Lani and plan ahead for parking. read more

Clean salon with a lot of space and nice mocktails and service overall. I came in for a gel mani and pedi with soak off which I called ahead to book. The gel mani was pricey and chipped within a week, but I called them immediately and they told me to come in and fixed the chipped nail. $55 before tip for gel manicure but I had to come back for the fix which was not ideal. The gel pedicure I got on the other hand was $60 and phenomenal, the attention to detail and quality was great. I'd come back for a pedicure. So 4 stars for the pedi and salon service but 3 for the mani experience I had. Parking in the strip mall lot but it can get busy in the evenings making parking harder to find. read more

My sister called to make an appointment for 3 pedicures. When we got there we waited like 8 mins and they opened up 3 chairs next to each other. When I am able to splurge on myself to a pedi I usually go to Spa & Co so can enjoy a drink with my pedi but I heard about the renovations and new ownership here so decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is really nice and relaxing. They have some new massage chairs that I was lucky enough to get. Decided to do the Era Tropical spa pedicure. Kayden was very nice and attentive. It did not feel rushed like some salons been too. Really enjoyed the complimentary mocktail. There are a few flavor options to choose from as well as some alcoholic options. This was my second time getting my nails done here. My first visit was amazing--I had one of the best pedicures I've ever had, which is why I decided to come back. Unfortunately, my second experience was the complete opposite. The technician who did my pedicure seemed rushed and the service felt mediocre at best. He even shortened the massage portion noticeably. My sister and I both chose the #3 pedicure package and started around the same time, yet he finished mine about 10 minutes earlier--even though my sister actually started after me. Things got more uncomfortable when I asked to switch to a different nail color. He became visibly annoyed, threw the polish into his cart, and continued the service without acknowledging me. His attitude made the situation very awkward and unpleasant. Overall, this experience really disappointed me and unfortunately ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing evening. I paid $200 for a pedicure and left extremely disappointed. The technician did not inform me of any nail damage or concerns during the service. I didn't even realize how badly my toenail had been damaged until I got home and saw that it was almost completely ripped off. If this had been communicated to me beforehand, I would have asked for a safer approach or declined the service altogether. In addition to the physical damage, I was very insulted by the staff's behavior. They made comments about how "bad" my feet were, even though I have eczema -- a medical skin condition that I'm already self-conscious about. It was humiliating to sit there and hear negative remarks about my body. The technician also repeatedly complained about my fingers being "crooked," which was unnecessary and unprofessional. No client should be made to feel embarrassed or judged while paying for a service. There was a clear lack of communication, professionalism, and respect. Overall the nail quality and art is good. However the second time I came I made an appointment because my time was really tight. I waited 15 minutes and asked when I would be seen and give another time estimate of 15 minutes. I told them I couldn't wait tha long so I'd make another appointment I called to make an appointment at 9am on Saturday when the open so I wouldn't have to wait. I get there and they don't know who was assigned to me so I wait 10 minutes before someone comes to take my nails off. Then when I show them the design I want they are trying to find someone who can do the design. I end up changing to a solid color to keep it easy for them and to avoid anymore delays. Overall the work is great, my nails held up really well and they are gentle and don't over buff. But the chaos of trying to get a timely appointment is frustrating and even if you get an appointment with someone there's no guarantee you'll be seen by that person since they don't write down who you're seeing. It's also frustrating that the pricing varies so widely depending on who your nail tech is. First time I got nail art on all nails and it was $55. Second time I got Cat eye and nail art on all nails and it was $70. They also say it's a luxury nail place but having people freak out about who is supposed to take care of whom, not having a good calendaring or appointment system, not having a uniform pricing system, and having loud phone calls makes it feel like a generic nail place But all the nail techs are super nice. came in today with my mother for a pedicure. When I called to ask if they had availability, I was told yes and that we could come right away. When we arrived, we waited at least 20 minutes which was still fine. The manager asked what type of pedicure my mom wanted, with gel or without. We chose the service, and I specifically asked if it included removing dead skin and cleaning the feet. She told me yes, and that it also included a massage. The technician who worked on my mom did a terrible job. He was completely unprofessional to the point where I truly believe he was a trainee. He started with the nails first, and when I asked whether they usually do nails before cleaning the feet, he said yes, which already didn't seem right. Only after he finished the nails did he begin filing the skin, and he didn't even put her feet in warm water beforehand. He ended up hurting her and even causing small cuts. When I said I wasn't happy with the service, the technician told my mother that it was because we had chosen a type of pedicure that didn't include cleaning or removing dead skin something that was never explained to us beforehand. No one mentioned that there were different types of pedicures or what the differences were. I am extremely disappointed with the service and the treatment she received. It's especially frustrating because the place looks very nice, and I truly thought I had finally found a good salon for pedicures and manicures but unfortunately, that was not the case. read more

I have been seeing this place on social media and wanted to try it for a pedicure because it has been years since I had one. They had lots of different spa pedicure options and we went with the tropical spa gel pedicure and this was a full experience. It is definitely one you want to make sure you have time for because it is pretty lengthy with all of the extra spa steps they do but it was totally worth it! There is easy parking in this lot but it is a little busy and tight spaces.
