I hadn't been here in 9 years, unbelievably, since our female cat Suki was a kitten, and now she's 9 and has an 8 year old brother, Sasha. They were overdue for nail trimming and grooming and we were unable to get appointments at our regular groomer for several weeks. While we have another place just for nail trims, we called here and Martha was able to fit us in...the day before Christmas Eve! Martha was great at explaining their services and we dropped them off and went to lunch and did some shopping in the area while we waited. It took about 3 hours for both cats. II will start with the positive they do cute cuts. The End. However, they're very shady and they play good cop, and bad cop . Irma it's not to be trusted. She's an evil woman and she does not treat pets properly when you're not looking. I saw her with my own eyes, drag my little dogs into a room with a lot of loose dogs. My dog ran out afraid and scared freaked out, and then she continued to grab her and drag her back into the room and just threw her and lock the door.I was Horrified!! She didn't know that I saw this! I contacted Martha mention it to her and she treated it as it was nothing . I asked her if they have the kennels because my dogs are not trained to be around or the dogs like this, their lap dogs . and I trust them to be in kennels separately. I believe that you have asked me first if it's OK if my pets can be around all the dogs loose like that, but they didn't ask me. They just did it and just DRAG! them in this room.. Another time they open the gates and just literally let my dogs loose to come to me with no leashes and no harnesses, and it was horrifying because her door to come into her business. It's literally 4 feet away from where she let my dogs loose and could of just ran out onto the street , thank God there was no other customer coming in It would have been a disaster since she's in a very busy street. she treated this as it was nothing, but I mentioned to please don't do that again. Didn't even apologize. I noticed that my pets were acting very strange for a few days like if they were afraid of something it took them a few days to come back to being themselves again. Gave them three opportunities and all three times they treated me as if I owe them something and again this Irma woman is not a good person. She is shady and she lies a lot to cover her insecurities and her mistakes as if she doesn't understand why you're telling her in Spanish or English. Yesterday afternoon I was given last minute notification that our building was being sprayed and that all pets needed to be kept away for no less than three hours for their safety. I called numerous grooming boutiques from Chicago's Gold Coast, Rivernorth, the West loop and Lakeview. Even my own Vet clinic turned me down and said they would be unable to take in my cat nor offer him a grooming. I just needed a safe place to babysit or bathe and groom my cat between twelve noon and 3 pm. Every vet clinic and grooming facility was unsympathetic and or no longer accepting new clientele and I was genuinely frustrated because my cat had mats in his coat and he was sctraching at his coat because his undercoat needed a good brush out. Martha was literally the only person who bothered to return my call and I explained that our building was being fumigated and that my cat had several knots in his coat that were making him miserable. She accommodated my time constraints graciously and without hesitation and I dropped Sebastiano off today at 12:15pm and picked him up at 4pm and he looked relaxed and extremely comfortable. It was obvious to me that the groomers here do beautiful work without causing any stress to our fur babies. Sebastiano looks comfortable and the extremely tangled knots were thoroughly brushed out instead of shaved out. Everything was painstakingly done and my cat is no longer in pain from the matting. We had to euthanize our beloved Bichon-Shitzu-mix who had been groomed at Paradise for a number of years. Martha and staff expressed genuine sympathy and asked for photos of our precious little boy. NOW, they are doing a great job, grooming the latest member of our family, a Yorkie-mix who is young and bouncy. Our older Poodle still gets great haircuts. This is a sweet place. Negative stars. Took my baby there on time at my scheduled appointment ; they told me to come back in an hour or more. Took her back, did not hear back for 3 hours. I went to the shop, only her body is half mangled shaved and her head and paws aren't done. When I asked to have my dog since it had been four hours now, they called the police on me, they never came, and released my dog out a random door and she came running out the door. Most unprofessional pos groomer I have ever experienced in my life. My dog is half groomed and shaking immensely after a 2pm appointment and it's almost 630. Trash ass place. read more

Since it's been a couple of years since my first review, I wanted to write another to acknowledge the service at Paradise and reaffirm that it continues to exceed expectations. My 4-year-old dog, Charlie, has been coming here for daycare twice a week since he was a puppy, and I attribute his calm temperament in large part to his social life at Paradise. He is great around all breeds and sizes, and I know it's because he interacts with so many wonderful dogs while at daycare here (always under Martha's supervision). Not only will your dog get the playtime and socialization s/he needs while you're at work, but Paradise's daycare prices are the best in the city. On average, you will pay more for a 30-minute dog walker than you will for a full day of daycare at Paradise. Lastly, the grooming services at Paradise continue to prove excellent. I have Charlie groomed by Martha every 6 weeks or so, and he always looks perfect. It's clear that attention to detail is important at Paradise, and I'm routinely pleased by my dog's even coat and trimmed claws. If you're in the area, I highly recommend taking your pet to Paradise--you won't regret it! read more

The last time we had her groomed (at a different place) she came back with an uneven cut and bruises and scrapes. Since that was a traumatic experience for her, we were very apprehensive about taking her anywhere. But we could not be happier with this salon! I have been taking my Weimaraner Byron to this salon to clip his nails every a couple of months. Every time I come in, Martha has been very friendly, attentive and accommodating. I usually go as a walk-in, and every time Martha is more than welcome to take my dog and clip his nails. My dog gets very excited when we go there. I'm sure it's because he always gets treats from Martha. Martha does a great job clipping Byron's nails. She does it very quickly, so the dog isn't even bothered with it. This was a horrible experience. I recently got rid of my car, so I had to switch to a groomer closer to my apartment. I took my cat in for a lion cut on a Friday. This morning, (Wednesday) my cat wasn't right. I lifted his arm and he had a huge wound under his armpit. It was green with infection. Now, I understand that accidents happen. Had I been told that he had been cut or nicked, I could have watched him to keep the wound from infecting. I was told nothing. The owner did nothing but tell me that I couldn't prove that they cut or nicked him (The vet could only say there was a wound by the time I noticed there was something wrong.), and therefore they could not be held accountable. That's just shameful. They didn't even seem to care that the cat was injured. Let's see, he's been going to a groomer for almost three years every few months and never had a problem. He goes to your salon and comes home with a wound in his armpit, that you insist happened elsewhere. I hope Karma gets your business lady. My only concern is that he heals and gets better. I'll eat the Vet bills because it's part of owning a pet, but I feel it's important to warn others that this is not a place that seems to care for or love animals. Don't trust your pets to this business. Update: I just left my cat at the Vets so they can monitor and tend to his wound for a week. The infected wound was getting bigger and bigger and he was losing patches of flesh. I was freaking out. The Vet said it wasn't from a nick or cut. It's clipper burn. They let the clippers get too hot. Do not take your pets to this establishment. No pet should suffer like this ever. I contacted the business to let them know that the Vet had said it was clipper burn so they can be aware and not do this to another animal. The lady was very defensive and told me she didn't know what to tell me because it couldn't have been them. She also told me she did not care about bad reviews and I could write all the reviews I wanted and then hung up me. No professionalism at all. I rue the day I ever went into her business. Update: Yelp just removed my photo of the burn they gave my cat. That should give you some idea of how awful the wound looked. It was scary. read more

We used their Kennel service twice and found it questionable. I never got to see the crate area but my dog came out freezing cold and it freaked me out- they probably don't have good heating. The last time we left our dog with a toy & his dog food but Martha completely denied that we ever bought the toy and said they do not even allow it ( their website clearly says bringing a toy is allowed ). She reassured that they will look up on the video and see if we had bought the toy but neither she has gotten back to me out of courtesy, nor she answered the phone message I left. The question is not just about losing a toy but their attitude towards customer care. I would not recommend anyone to go here- there are much better choices out there for the same price range. This is the worst experience and interaction I have ever had with a business. And I am not generally a very picky or difficult person! The owner asked what kind of cut I wanted for my Lhasa and I said we usually get around a 5 blade but wasn't sure what that would be at her salon since I would have been a new customer. She said she thought a 3 would be a good length, I was confused and asked to see pictures. After that I said I wanted his hair a little longer than the 3 blade she suggested and she got defensive and started telling me how she had been cutting hair for 20 years and she knew what she was doing. I calmly told her that I did not doubt that but I was trying to explain what I wanted. She got frustrated and told me she needed to go back to work and that we weren't going to be able to communicate effectively! Anyways it ended in her walking away and basically refusing me as a customer, I was astonished to say the least. After that interaction I would have been afraid to leave my dog with her anyways. So, basically I am not considered to be work as a potential client? I called that morning and she told me what time to come. I had an appointment and would be paying money... I really want to like this place, I really do. I've gone here 3 years in a row after it was recommended by a friend. First year when they were on Broadway my cat came out great. Last year, their first year at their new location, they placed my cat's carrier on the floor where all the dogs were running around. My cat was so scared he pooped in his carrier. The shave job was fantastic so i decided to give them one last try this year making sure i told them to keep my cat away from the dogs. The lady at the registered was very accommodating. I went to the groomer May 2nd. On May 4th i noticed that my cat's pupils were different sizes. When i went to look closer the problem seemed to fix itself and i didn't give it another thought. I went out of town and when i returned 48 hours later, not only were the pupils clearly different sizes, but what is known as the "3rd eye lid" was clearly showing! I feared the worst and took him the vet asap. Turns out that my cat had developed Horner's Syndrome which can be caused by trauma from ear cleaning. The vet (Family Pet...best vet ever!) stated that my cats ears were super clean and the groomer likely stuck in the q-tip or whatever they used too far causing injury to the nerves. Though i want to love this place cuz they do a great job, i think its time to find somewhere new, i don't think i can go back there knowing that this can happen. read more

The place is nice, it offers a variety of things and the advantage of you self washing your dog. BUT when I went there, the guy who works there who I can tell is Latin was not very pleasant, or nice, or charismatic... In fact he was so arrogant and unresponsive that I'm considering not going back. He acknowledged my dog a while after I was there, and he acted a little scared of him which doesn't give me any trust. And that the $45 dollars (going rate at most groomers) was a god send. Yet she is thinking about raising the prices... When we went over to view the grooming area - there was about 5-7 dogs milling about the room, hair all over the place. i did not see where my little dog would be spending her time. My fear with this is that dogs sniff & smell, play & rough-house and with all the dogs milling about is she gonna come home with an ear infection, worms etc.... and they have a better shop than anything there is d'town?! And our dog was always freaked out after. He would drink water like had hnone all day. And I doubt they ever took out after he was in a crate for 8 hours. But we took him back because he is old and has a hard time getting out of the car now and they are close. Well that was a mistake. When I went to pay and pick him up, she said there was an extra surcharge because he was old. When I asked to see the posted price, she just claimed she didn't have to show me anything. I refused to pay the extra surcharge, she argued with me for 10 minutes. Then told me she didn't need my business and don't come back. I paid the $40 on my credit card and left. On the way home, my dog limped and walked sideways. He had never done that before in his life. 2 weeks later when I got the credit card statement and she had charged me $80 by writing in a $40 tip for herself. When I confronted her, she claimed my dog was old and she earned. it. Martha is rude, unprofessional and unethical. I found this place after having had tried 2 handfuls of groomers in Chicago, they were all terrible! This was the first place that gave my baby the best grooming she had ever. I remember going one time unexpectedly, only to find them loving up and kissing my babies belly. Marta is great, she would pick up Xuxa and drop her off within a few hours, that really nice for me as I did not own a car. I love this place! I've read all the reviews so far and I can understand where everyone is coming from; negative and positive. And for those of you who might not have had the best experience, I'm hoping my review of my experience of Paradise Pet Salon will help you think differently. I bought the most beautiful little boy kitten here 2 and a half years ago. He was my little man. The best pet ever. About 6 months ago I found out that he had a terminal disease called FIP. Either his abdomen or chest cavity begin to fill with fluid. My little spike has his lungs filling with fluid and eventually it will kill him. I was so upset by this news but was told by many veterinarians that with this disease it really came down to a random possibility that this happened. There is no way to test for the illness. It is confirmed after all other tests have failed. A cat can be a carrier and never have symptoms. Others like my little baby, die early in life. Sometimes animals are sick and there is no way for a breeder or in this case a pet store owner to know. I'm just happy I get to spend the time I'm spending with little Spike. I recently went to the new store to shop for my new little Yorkie Poo. Martha was so nice. She picked out a little "treat" bag for the new pup and the lovely Latin sales associate was very helpful as well. I spent a good 30 min in the store getting advice and the starts of a new wardrobe for the little poo. When I was checking out, the information about my kitty Spike came up. Martha felt horrible. I knew it wasn't her fault but I could tell that she genuinely cared and felt really bad. I can just tell that she takes a real interest in all of her animals. She even offered to give me a new kitten....two and a half years later mind you. I've just had such a great experience with this store...the overall feeling is so friendly and human....not like corporate America. I'll be coming back for years to come and I'll definitely have to take the pup for a grooming with all the good reviews! read more

I've been coming here since the Houndry closed. I was a bit apprehensive because of the smaller size, but once my puppy started going to daycare, I realized this place was top notch. The owners even expanded the space. My pup comes home completely exhausted. Martha and Zully are friendly, gracious and sweet as hell to my little guy. He looks forward to coming every morning.
