The worst kabob ever. Ordered a chicken breast kabob. The meat wasn't seasoned. Bare chicken. The meat was boiled prior to grilling to save time. Took all the flavor away. The meat was tough and dry. Bec. It was made with frozen chicken instead of fresh chicken. Lol. Cucumber & Tomato salad should be called just Cucumber salad. No Tomatos. Cheap owner. The owner charges $1. Service charge when paying with a credit card. The lunch was $12+$1. Service charge. +$1.20 tax. =$14.20 for a simple lunch!!!! Go elsewhere. I have no idea how this place stays in business.

Walk in and the guy is eating takes my order while chewing and talking with his mouth full, just gross. Bought a salmon kabob plate for 20.00. It's 98 degrees today. I asked for a cup of ice 3 times. Got a warm cup with melted ice. Someone needs to revamp this place. Higher someone who is more responsive. I didn't like the food.

    Chicken and beef kebob

On Wednesday, the chicken and beef kebob special is a $1.50 off. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/paraiso-kebab-van-nuys?select=r5LZS45Z8VSAFDmDGp7GHw#r5LZS45Z8VSAFDmDGp7GHw) I'm not a frequent eater of this type of food but this dish wasn't complex and was still tasty. Ground beef and ground chicken on a stick with some white rice.....can't get any simpler than that! They also have Jarritos Mandarin Orange soda chillin' in the fridge, and I can never pass that up when I see it. One old man runs the show here and I love seeing mom & pop shops sticking to their roots. You might have to ring the cashier bell to get service though.

It is better than their beef koobideh and barg, though those are still good. I have had better beef koobideh at other restaurants like Raffis or Shekarchi. Their bread is so fresh and is an elevated experience compared to the usual lavash bread that restaurants give. My friends had the salmon and they really liked it. The maast o khiar is really good too. The service is excellent - all the food came out quickly and the servers were nice. I will say I am Persian (and look very obviously so) and for some reason one lady only looked at/spoke to my husband and not me. I would say it's 4.5 stars because I was put off by this. Parking is tough right next to the restaurant but can be found metered down the street if you don't want to valet. We were a party of 4 at 7pm on a Saturday night and were seated right away at a booth.

Been going to Sadaf for the past 15 years. Past few years they have increased prices and made their…read moreportions smaller. Just until recently we have been experiencing changes in flavor and food presentation, still no excuse to serve people that have been supporting their business with tasteless and cold food. Last week I had enough and called over the manager. He did mention due to the high cost, they had to cut back and raise prices. Giving us the typical excuses to weasel their way out. Order 1 was tri stews that came out cold with small portion of rice. The stews were tasteless and meatless. Menu states chunks of beef but yet nothing in our dish. Maybe they gave us the veggie option for $28. I scream middle eastern from a mile away do you think I would go there for a veggie dish? I don't think so. Discrepancies can elevate a dish but unfortunately I don't think the new management in the kitchen has any clue on culinary arts. If you lack that part in your business at least serve a warm dish with decent size rice which is cheap to buy or add some side greens that can fill a normal size man so I don't have to stop by In N Out after. Order 2 was chicken barg that was cold as our stews, tasteless and strange color to it which manager claimed it was a new marinate and also agreed it was small. Small portion and cold but yet they charged $28 for it. No mention if their cuts are organic or not is very troubling as the chicken felt it was frozen with a chewing texture and a strange aftertaste. The icing on cake was a $5 premium charge for a small bottle of sparkling water that's normally at most at local gas stations for a $1.90. The manager had the nerve to tell us they have been cutting back including the small slice of lemon that they used to offer with a glass of water. This place is a joke and ran by people that just care for money as they have been opening new locations with our support. They have forgotten when you claim superiority over other restaurants you better deliver as presentation is key which this restaurant lacks as well. Manager claimed they focus on healthy marinates and oils and provide healthy meals which as if he was selling me on a gym membership! Maybe he should save all that talk and had refunded my money. I paid, even gave a healthy tip as the server had nothing to do with it and I would have ordered desserts but everything on it was unhealthy and store bought contradictory to his long speech. Save your money and don't go here.

We ordered the meat combo plate, which came with beef lula kabob as well as chicken kabob and beef kabob pieces. The plate also came with hummus and because I came with my daughter and she demanded fries, I replaced the included basmati rice for freshly made fries. In addition, we decided to order a side of baba ganoush, which was very flavorful and just so worth it. The meats were outstanding. Both, chicken and beef kabob pieces were nicely marinated, perfectly grilled and delicious. The beef lula kabob really stood out to me and it's one of the better ones I've had in LA -- very juicy, well marinated ground beef and they cooked it so the juices are trapped inside the lula and they only get released after you bite into it. What I got was a perfect bite every time and those delicious beef juices made my taste buds say Yaaaaay and nourished my soul. Overall, a very good meal at a good price and it had my wife and daughter satisfied. The spot is located on a medium-size plaza with many parking spots. The inside is clean and has about 8 tables for dining in. The service was good and friendly. A worthy local place for a quick, delicious Mediterranean food. Will come back again!

For $21.99 it's worth getting especially since it comes with saffron rice, salad, pita bread, and a choice of regular hummus or spicy hummus. Chelo Taste of Persia aka Chelo, tastes great!…read more We had dinner here for my friend Mike's birthday and I have to say I'm an instant fan! I've had some small things here in the past via friends and delivery, and let me say they do a lot of takeout and delivery (I think I saw like a dozen orders go out in the course of ten minutes). Extensive catering menu + family style dish offerings. The dine in experience is cozy and thoughtful with two large flat screens on the wall for your viewing pleasure. Incredible sides, beverages and cuisine with delicious flavors as well as aromas. That lentil soup was the talk of the night, super unique, good texture and a hint of spice. I've never had falafel like the falafel I had at Chelo, it wasn't super crisp or overly fried it was it's own wonderful blend with a medium to soft texture that melted in your mouth. Already dreaming about more. Eggplant dip, yes please! But that hummus is an instant yes - very authentic. Portions here are beyond plentiful and I'm grateful. Lots of vegetarian dishes that are also vegan friendly, aside from yogurt based items. Their Shirazi Salad, Veggie Sautee and Torshi should be on your list, much like their refreshing Persian Iced Tea, Saffron Drink and Cucumber Lemonade. Amongst our dinner group of four we had a lot of variety. And the consensus is it's all great! If doing a Chelo Style (plate) 1/2 and 1/2 rice and salad is recommended, though for this salad it includes feta so I personally do all rice. Might try with Shirazi if possible or fetaless if also possible. Good beverage options, the majority of which are available to grab and go in their cold box near the front. Much like small containers of their sides and savory dips. Fresh made pita. Dessert options. Loads of gluten free and halal dishes as well. The people who make Chelo what it is are super kind and personable and take care of this space. Cool loyalty rewards program (earn a wrap). Located on Van Nuys Blvd/Victory Blvd it's a local hidden gem you absolutely want to find. Can't believe it took me so long to sit in and dine in, but absolutely will be strolling in a lot more. Close to the Van Nuys courthouse, Orange/G Line Station for Van Nuys Blvd with street meter parking or residential off side streets a little bit of a walk down. Restrooms for customers and very clean, like the entire place. Open Monday through Friday from 11am until 8pm and until 5pm on Saturdays, with the same 11am opening. Closed only on Sundays and/or special events or holidays. Get your Chelo on!

My favorites are their kabobs and different modifications (think sour berries) of generous amounts of basmati rice that accompany their entrees. The Mast O' Mooseer (yoghurt with shallots) is another of my must haves. Generally, I always get the koobideh kabob to go, but this time, I was in the mood to sit down and have some chunks of meat. I chose the Shish Kabob, which is advertised as grilled filet mignon pieces. The restaurant prepares it medium well and past experience revealed it to be dry and tough. So I asked for it medium rare, for the first time. The dish that came to my table had marvelous optics. The beef was well charred, had an intoxicating aroma and well distributed coloring amongst the seven generous pieces. But there were a few problems. For one, I could not comfortably cut into the beef without using excess force, and shredding it. I asked for a sharper (steak) knife and was told that was all they had. While the meat was juicy, it was extremely chewy. I even questioned whether it was filet mignon, because it did not look and behave like it. I was told it was. If that was the case, could it have been a bad cut? This substantiates why I am leery about ordering meat pieces. Amongst the other items, the thick creamy yoghurt did not disappoint. Same with the grilled onion and tomato. The saffron rice is always fluffy and abundant. The green salad was crisp and refreshing. Take home message? Looks like I will have to skip the Shish Kabob and stick only with the koobideh, if I am ever in the mood for skewered grilled beef.
