Rowena forwarded us to loan officer Matt, to help us finance our home. Initially, we planned to buy in 1-2 years, but we made it happen in less than 2 months. I met with Matt and got a pre-approval on the same day (in less than 2 hours.) While sitting in the waiting area while he was with his client before me, I found a property online and texted it to my realtor asking about it. We toured the property that same evening, and made an offer the next day. All done within 24 hours, and all thanks to Matt, Rowena and Jay. With their guidance, we submitted an offer and even beat out a higher offer. Our offer got accepted in the following week. Some call it crazy, but I say it's all in God's perfect timing. Matt, Rowena and Jay made it happen for us. I mean it when I say we couldn't have done it without them. They went above and beyond to make sure our first home buying process went quickly (really really quickly) and smoothly. Matt sure we had all our sh*t together, and our transaction was perfect! I was super nervous that it wouldn't happen, but he reassured me that we would get through the transaction without a hitch. One of my favorite things is that he is easy to talk to and relatable. He even gave me some financial advice to alleviate my debts which made a big difference in my monthly bills. I also appreciated Matt staying late hours to meet with us after we were done with work, and not minding bringing our baby to the office. If you asked me a year ago, I would not have think it would be possible to own our own home in 2019, but yet, here we are! I called and a rep confirmed I do not have an account and told me not to worry because the accounts team was processing my application. Then, about 10 days later, I get an email saying "We're sorry! An error occurred with your membership application Your recent application for membership may have been denied in error. So sorry for the inconvenience!" And to try again. What an immense cluster%@3! Obviously, I am not going to open an account with such a sloppy enterprise.

The rest of the time I keep a small balance and use it for ATM withdrawals for my own convenience because they claim to be the world's largest credit union and have branches all over. Don't rely on NFCU for car loans, mortgages, HELOCs, and other loan instruments. Try another credit union, an online loan merchant, or even a bank and you may get better terms and service.

Do you know that it doesnt matter how much money is in your Hawaii USA checking (I have…read more$10K), if you try to deposit a $20 check from your other checking account from a local bank (FHB) to your Hawaii USA checking account, they will put a 10 day hold on it, regardless. Do you know that it's up to the individual branch to decide if they will remove the ($20) hold or not. In order to release the hold, you have to call the branch and ask, EACH TIME YOU MAKE A DEPOSIT, even if its $10 check. This is unheard of. What a waste of time for the customer.
