I actually met the man who had brought them in, and his wife owns this store. I found them both to be incredibly sweet people. I was telling my mom's friend Carol about this place and wanting to go in. She knew the store well and told me I would absolutely love it. She ended up going with me and showing me where it was, which was perfect. She was right, I did love the store. This isn't your typical Jo-Ann Fabrics kind of store. It's a small, locally owned specialty store, that caters to quilting projects. So the material is different, typically more cotton fabrics. But it's not Jo'Ann's with higher prices. Many stores tend to be just that, and you can get the same thing at Jo-Ann's for much cheaper. That's not the case here. Yes, the material is more expensive, but it's for specialty projects and it's unique. They have an incredible selection. I loved some of the materials in here and instantly thought of more projects to start on, which can be a very dangerous thing. Lol. Those of you who do crafting/sewing projects know exactly what I'm talking about. The store itself is fairly small, but it's laid out very well. It's not cramped inside or messy. It's clean and well organized. It's easy to find things and browse the selections. Some places just have piles of fabric, or things stuffed into the shelves so tight that you can see them or even pull them out for a better look. This wasn't the case in here. The layout and color scheme was very thoughtfully done, to make shopping much easier. I appreciated that. Customer service was great. There was a man named Ken working in the store, and he was very nice. My mother mistook him for the owner's husband. He was so sweet and just kind of went along with her, smiling and nodding. I'm sure he thought she was bat-shit crazy, but he played along well. Lol, I finally had to explain to her it wasn't the man she was thinking it was. So that cleared up the confusion. I had asked for Candy, who is the owner. We talked about fabrics and projects. She was more than helpful in answering my questions. Would I return? Absolutely! It's a great small, locally owned business with great selection and customer service. I would highly recommend this store for anyone who loves quilting or sewing, and is looking for unique materials that a chain store can't offer you. I'd definitely say give this place a try! I was able to find two fabrics that were perfect and an employee cut what I needed from the bolts. The wait was a bit long but I just looked at the other fabrics while I waited to be called. I went for the second time this past Wednesday night, about an hour before they closed. My friend had texted me saying that they had the ceramic goose statue that I've been looking for for months and I booked it over there as soon as I could. When I arrived the store was almost empty - I saw one customer walking around (possibly shoplifting actually, as I saw her leave and jump into a double-parked truck that had flashed its brights at me in the parking lot when I arrived...) and one employee who ended up checking me out. The item I bought was 40% off and the employee had said they had been flying off the shelves, which I believe since they're all the craze right now. With the store being so empty, I was surprised to get checked out so quickly. I was in and out in less than five minutes. The employee I checked out with was nice and friendly. The store was clean and quiet (obviously). The parking lot is big and there's a light right next to the store so it's super easy to get in and out of. It's a prime location so I'm surprised I don't see more traffic there over the weekends.

Normally, the stores are decorated, giving it a more welcoming feel to it, and the name brand stuff is on special racks toward the front. They are specially priced and more expensive, but they do showcase these items. I couldn't find that at all. Normally I look for Nike and Columbia jackets and clothes when I'm in these stores. Nothing. Shoes were just disappointing. The only thing I found were some fabrics that I'll make pillows out of. I only saw two people working in here, one was stocking and sorting books. He never said a single word when we walked by. He did stop what he was doing long enough to stare at us, like we were about to steal the entire store or something sinister like that. The only other employee was the cashier. I had to wait forever while she checked out the person in front of me. It was obvious she was significantly nicer to the customer in front of me than she was me. I have no idea why, but whatever works for her. She still wasn't overly friendly, but at least she made more of an effort with that customer. I get to the counter and greet her. I'm all for being a decent person to anyone who works in retail, and engaging in a conversation by asking how their day is going. This old woman wasn't having any of it. Literally refused to answer my question. She asked the customer in front of me if she needed a bag, which was for a book. Seems like a waste. I had my hands full of fabric, so the need for a bag would be obvious, right? She was so terrible and hostile that she wasn't even going to offer me one! I had to ask. Would I return here? Not a chance. The selection is terrible, and the customer service is even worse. There's nothing to make me want to drive 25 miles out of my way to go to this store. Review 166 of 2017.

Doug discussed it over the phone and suggested my wife and I come in. We were impressed with the roomful of sample catalogues and the prices were reasonable. After the material arrived it was about two months until he was able to get to it. It took him a month or so to finish the work, and the results are excellent. There was a delay while more fabric was ordered due to flaws in the material sent, but only a week. He not only reupholstered the chair, he added a zipper into the headrest to allow us to adjust the amount of stuffing in it and added velcro flaps on the base of the back to ease access to the latches for removing the back off of the base. He's easy to work with, honest and very amicable. It's hard to find a good upholsterer and Doug is a gem.

I'm presuming she stepped out to use the little girl's room or something. This store is packed full, and I mean full of stuff. There's some clothing, scarves, and leggings. There's every possible button you could ever want in your lifetime in here. Same goes with thread and ribbon. If you can't find what you're looking for in here, I highly doubt it exists. The store is easily filled with just 5 or 6 people because there is so much product crammed in here. The funny thing is even with so much product in such a tiny space, it is incredibly well organized. This is one of those places where if you're carrying a decent sized purse, turn around too fast, or are just a bit clumsy, it's pretty much guaranteed that you're going to crash into something. I found a hilarious pair of socks in here for my father in-law yesterday and went to buy them. As we're chatting with the employee, I grab ahold of my husband because he's about to run into a shelf. I can just see things spilling everywhere in my head and the mess he's going to create. As I'm trying to prevent what I think is less than a second away from becoming utter chaos, the employee reassured us that even working in the store and knowing where everything is, she still bumps shelves or runs into things almost daily. This simple warm reassurance relaxed me because I was nervous about being in such a small place and accidentally creating a huge mess for someone else to clean up. It's like going to someone's house and you're afraid to sit on any of the furniture kind of feeling. Not here. It's the relaxed, it happens kind of approach. Which is really what made it memorable to me. I heard another customer ask for a specific employee who had just left shortly before that. The customer wanted this employee because she could always find the customer the perfect buttons. If you ever find someone who has a knack for finding you exactly what you want when you're not even sure what that is, stalk them! Lol. That is a whole other level of customer service. But that also told me what kind of store this is, and that attention to details is a big deal to them. Would I return? Absolutely. It's a great store with a ton of products and incredible selection. The customer service is wonderful, warm, and welcoming. I certainly don't look like the kind of person who has crafting hobbies, and I only bought socks during my initial visit. Yet I was treated like I'd been in a thousand times and they knew me. I like that, and it is exactly why I will return when it's time to start a new craft project.

Specifically I was trying to burn a few CD's for my American mom, and the burns failed, so now I have a bunch of coasters! Mom thinks the software had some kind of encryption parameter switched on, or perhaps the music I have is copyright-protected with a DRM, but I told her that it's actually a hardware failure! When I called, Mike answered the phone, and he seems like quite a sweet guy! I explained my situation to him, and he informed me of the possibility that I may need new DVD/CD Rom drives. He says that when it comes to reading and writing CD's and DVD's, drives and burners can fail after a short amount of time, as these machines aren't built to last like they used to be! Fast forward to this afternoon. I went to Eugene Computers with my provider, Karry, and they actually had the right kind of DVD/CD Rom drives for me! And better yet, they let me recycle the old ones that I brought in! I brought the new ones home, and by the way they're brand new and sealed, for which I paid $37.00 a piece (not a bad price at all!), and when I opened them up and plugged them into my machines, they actually work wonders! I recommend Eugene Computers to anyone who needs new replacement parts and even computer repairs. You guys are the best! You deserve 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars from me!

I have been going to this store for years, and have purchased all my sewing machines here. The staff has never been anything but friendly and professional, and the woman who "sucks lemons" has more sewing expertise than anyone I have ever met. I have been to the other stores in the Eugene/Springfield area and have been ignored, or pressured. I have always felt treated fairly at Paramount and they have all my sewing/vacuum business. As for "being watched", I also work in retail, and believe me when I say that you have to watch! In my experience, the ones who complain the most about being watched are exactly the ones to pay extra attention to. In my store it is written policy to keep a close eye on everyone as much as possible, and I'm at a chain store where the corporation can afford to absorb some theft losses. Small independant business have no such lee-way. So if your main complaint is that the staff is paying attention to you...I hope you don't come into my store.... read more

Paramount Sewing sets a high bar for excellent customer service and friendly, knowledgeable staff. After sale service is just a great as before sale and there is no pressure to buy anything. Now the new owners have brought in additional lines of machines so all the top machines can be found in one place in town. This is the only repair place that was able to adjust my ancient serger so it is still sewing like new. They want happy lifelong customers. They got one here!! read more

Every now and then you find a business that really has their act together, and for sewing and…read morevacuum repair, this is it. I have a great Shark vacuum that needed a replacement power cord. I must have called every other vacuum repair shop in the valley, and as soon as they heard "Shark" they all told me that they didn't work on that brand. This place said "sure, $49". And they did it in record time. Typically a vacuum repair would mean leaving the appliance in the shop for a week or two; this place was done in 2 days. Another time I had lost suction on a vac, and I couldn't figure out what went wrong. I took it to River Road Sew & Vac, and before I had finished describing the problem the repair guy had taken the vacuum apart, fixed the problem, and put it back together. When you find somebody like this, who really KNOWS their business, you keep them. My niece has recently gotten interested in sewing, and was excited that she found a Singer machine at Goodwill for a bargain price. Of course the machine had problems and needed work. We took this -- probably 50-year old -- machine to this place, and in 3 days it was running like new, for a fraction of what some of the other places had quoted us for a simple cleaning and lube. And yes, the owner has a very sweet dog that hangs out in the back of the shop. Puts a smile on my face every time I visit. Sewing machine or vacuum need work? This is the place to go.

I went in today and showed him a sale price from an authorized dealer for $699.00, he shook his head and said no, that has to be old stock that they didn't have to pay tariffs on. So I apologize for taking up his time and left, he was quick to comment before I got to the door that if I had any problems with it, find another place to take it. Five minutes later, I was at Paramount sewing and vacuum just 3 miles down the road. They had the same model on sale for 749.00 and when I asked about a price match, the manager was kind enough to call the owner and they agreed to give me a box of eight bags for free which came out to $43.00. Paramount just gained a customer. Sew & Vac is working hard on going out of business.

I ended up speaking with one of the owners--and he sold me a Panasonic vacuum with replaceable bags. It felt a bit pricey, but I appreciated the 30-day trial policy he mentioned and was willing to give it a shot. After using it at home for about a week, I realized it wasn't the right fit for my space. The vacuum was quite heavy, and since I don't have carpet, the idea of constantly replacing bags seemed unnecessary. When I returned to exchange it, the guy was noticeably more frazzled and less friendly than before. I explained I was looking for something lighter, ideally bagless and possibly secondhand. He showed me a few options, but they felt outdated and still fairly bulky. We eventually landed on a lightly used Dyson cordless model, which was around half the price of the original vacuum. This is where the real frustration started: rather than issuing a straightforward refund, he first said he would cut a check--which surprised me, given the advertised 30-day trial policy. He then seemed unsure how to process the refund at all, referencing the invoices and appearing overwhelmed by the system. After some back and forth, he ran my card again, saying the receipt indicated a refund had been issued. But when I checked my bank account, it looked like I'd been charged a second time instead. I returned to the store and showed him the transaction. He remained convinced the refund had gone through, but after I insisted--firmly--that he contact technical support or else I'd need to involve my bank's fraud department, he finally got the system to process the refund correctly. It took about 45 minutes in-store, and the money hit my account 2-3 days later. In the end, everything was resolved, and I did leave with a vacuum I'm happy with. But this was a pricey transaction, and the whole experience felt more complicated and time-consuming than it should have been. I'm sure this store does good work with vacuum and sewing machine repairs, but based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend purchasing a new vacuum here unless they improve their return process and customer communication.

Very quick turnaround and he didn't charge me. I'll certainly do business with these folks again. And I'll never purchase a Shark again.
