I'm keeping the rating at 2 stars, but kudos to Villa la Paws for calling me to discuss the issues I had. My biggest concern was that my Jack Russell Terrier did not get as much mental and physical stimulation and that each time I looked at the Webcam there was no play at all. The manager I spoke with explained that some days they have dogs that do not share toys well, so they just don't get the toys out. My comment back to that was questioning why they punish the good dogs when the toy-unfriendly ones should just be separated out. She was going to review some tapes to see what other activities went on that I didn't see. Although Webcam or no, I knew he was bored from his actions when I picked him up. She also explained that Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be their slower days so they typically have just one room of dogs. And I know Mondays they do $18 for the day, which takes away my comment that they are way too expensive. She did offer me a free day of doggie day care, but I'll have to ponder that. I try hard to honor the spirit of the Jack Russell Terrier. He is home now after a day at another place and he is curled up and exhausted...he was from the moment he got in the car. So for people who have laid back dogs that really enjoy just getting out of the house while mom or dad are working, Villa la Paws is first rate. Unless they make a significant change to how the dogs interact, the very active, smart dogs that need some mental challenge during the day might get bored here. Will I try Villa la Paws again? Honestly, I'm not sure. Should you? Absolutely! This company has a lot to offer. And I very well might go there for the Hollywood Dogs training class. But dog day care? They'll have to earn my trust before I leave Schooner there for 9 hours again. read more

I had my dog Layla which is a husky/German mix do the doggie daycare and get groomed! Omg, when I saw her she looked extremely gorgeous her coat was soo soft and silky! Her coat looked amazing. I usually do the self washes myself and never seen her coat look that way! Another thing that was awesome was since my dog passed the temperament test she received a free day for doggie day care! She even made a boyfriend that was a white husky! I would give this place a try. read more

There are so many things to say about this place. But the following illustrates my best friends expense: 1. From the moment we pull up in the car he is "yelping" and pawing to get in side to see his friends. He literally drags me leash in hand inside. I'm a little miffed there is never a tender look of "good-bye" or "I will miss you buddy" just a running yap to the party inside! 2. When I pick him up, it's hangover time. I think my pup loves it here (kinda have to rely on her excited body language and tail wagging). My pup has only come in for doggie daycare and grooming but I expect the boarding to be just as good! The doggie-cam makes it easier to keep tabs on my quadrupedal friend during the day (because I'm kind of one of those crazy pet-women who cares too much about my dog's emotional well-being, etc) and also provides a entertaining break while I'm between patients. The grooming staff is amazing! Somehow they are able to transform my puppy from a spazzy furball into a smaller, more youthful and adorable version within a few hours (still spazzy but more tolerable). read more

I am ashamed to be so late in writing this review. But I've written several scathing reviews of other businesses lately and I feel the need to even out the karma. What better way to do that than to write a review of my favorite business of all time! My standard poodle Charley, 6 years old, has been going to Paws since he was 6 months old. 'Paws' is his favorite word, and the smile on his face on the days he gets to go to Paws makes me happy all day long. A dog will tell you if he was treated well, and Charley has without fail given this place 4 paws up! Wendi helped me so much with Charley when he was younger and in puppy training classes and recall. She taught me how to make this high energy dog who is probably smarter than me a reasonably respectable member of society. Any failings on that score are mine, not Wendi's:) Now that they have this beautiful new indoor training facility, I hope to enroll in more classes next year. Charley is groomed by Jane, who has always been beyond wonderful. He tends to get some alarming skin growths that have to be removed from time to time. Jane has pointed out several that I hadn't caught so that they could be removed before they became serious. I am very grateful for this. This dog is my baby and I am ridiculously attached to him. I trust him to the staff at Paws without reservation. If you are a real dog person like me, this is the place for you and your best friend. read more

We rent a training room here,I will be so glad when the hot weather is over and we can go back to training outside. This place stinks so bad inside every single time I go. It smells like a bunch of dog crap floating in a bucket of bleach and pine sol. The place is filthy filthy dirty. I would never ever in my life leave my dog there for grooming or daycare! It's just disgusting. I have to drag my dog inside the door, she hates it just as much as I do. The training room looks like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks, there is so much dog hair on the floor it's repulsive to say the least ************UPDATE**************** After writing this post, I have been back to this facility for training and it's better! When you walk in the door you don't get that overwhelming smell of dog poop and pinesol! And our training room floor is clean, most of the dog hair is swept up and the floors look mopped! We love the staff at Villa La Paws, and of course the facility too! Our dog Reece comes home completely satisfied every time he visits! This place is great. I recently took one of my dogs here for a teeth cleaning. The doctor here uses a technique where they do not have to put the dog under anesthesia. They wrap them in a blanket and then lay them in their lap and make them as comfortable as possible. My dog didn't mind at all and after this treatment my dogs teeth look amazing! Sparkly clean. Also, I checked out the boarding and grooming areas and the dogs looked like they were having a blast. Playing with each other and staff, sleeping, rolling around, etc. If I had to board my dogs this would be my first choice place. read more

We never board our dog, but were forced to for 4 nights. We decided a stress free cage free option might work for her. I love that Villa La Paws has webcams so we could see what Mrs Beasley was doing all day. They seem to move the dogs in and outside all day, we liked that. Staff was friendly. I absolutely ADORE this facility! My pup is always extremely happy to come play. I love the fact that they are 100% cage free and indoors/outdoors. Finnegan has been going to Villa La Paws since he was about 3 months old and he just recently turned 3. I'm not sure who loves this place more, me or him? Everyone is always so friendly to both of us and we always feel so welcome there. I have never had an issue with staff or operations of any sort. Oh and I also get Finn groomed there, they are wonderful! I honestly can't say enough about Villa La Laws and am so very thankful I have a place that I can trust to take Finn too. Great place!!! I have been taking my two dogs here for the last 4 years! We always see Jane for grooming! We have not yet tried their boarding services but will in the future when we need it. Jane is so amazing with our kids (pups) and she really makes you feel at ease. She takes time to learn their personalities, always asks us what we like and we have never had an issue with their cuts or experience! I was a little neverous bringing our small dogs to a cage free grooming with other large dogs out, but they have never had any issues and tend to make a lot of friends. Please READ BEFORE leaving your dogs at Villa la paws on Shea!!!!! Thank god for webcams. I dropped my 4 month old puppy off at 6am. i got to work and started watching the video cam. He was put into a room by himself, no other dogs, no human supervision, no toys for almost 2 hours! He has never been left alone. This neglect and segregation was like a punishment to him. I phoned and was told this was not a normal situation and he was moved outside with 2 other dogs. I continued to check in on him throughout the day. Five hours later, he was still outside in the same yard with the same dogs and no humans in sight. ABSOLUTELY NO SUPERVISION, NO HUMAN INTERACTION, NO NEW STIMULATION OR EXPERIENCES. I could have left my puppy out in my yard for the day but that is not why I pay to take him to daycare. I also witnessed in my webcam watching, a dog, appeared to be solo, in one of the rooms with piles of poop all over the floor. Once again, no human supervision. I have a snapshot of this and as all of the items i am reporting are on camera, they are indisputable. Upon picking up my baby after 2 phone calls of concern and one email, the staff on duty agreed with me that my concerns and situation my little one was put in was "not okay". His response was " I agree but I was not here". No explanation, concern, or resolve offered. PLEASE ensure you are okay with the treatment or lack,of prior to leaving your babies in the care of Villa La Paws. read more

Disappointing would be the only way to describe this business. We have a very socialized miniature schnauzer and he LOVED Fido's funhouse until it closed. We decided to try VLP and I wish they did not have a webcam. Watching the webcam, I saw no toys for the dogs, no stimulation and my dog just hung back as the bigger dogs had the run of the room. I had an appointment today 1/22/2022 at 10am Tempe location to see what this place is about. I got there and was told I need to leave my dog for 4 hours for "meet and greet". I am fine by that; what I am not good with is I was several times to tour or at least see where my dog will be staying for four hours, and I was told no. I can understand the reasoning for anxiety purposes, but I asked if they could hold my dog and let me see the facility. I have a ten-year-old daughter and I would never in a million years leave her at a daycare facility for four hours having not seen the facility. I don't know what is behind those doors and what my dog is being subjected to. I am in disbelief people just leave their dog in an unknown location. When I made my appointment, I was told take your dog in and do a meet and greet. NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG FOR FOUR HOURS. I drove 30 min on a Saturday morning and completely wasted my time. I am very disappointed. Next time when making appointments with people be very specific as to, they will be leaving their dog in an unknown facility they haven't toured for four hours. My dog is my family, and it shouldn't be too much to ask to see what exactly the facility looks like to leave my dog. Horrible. read more

Ok so first of all I don't leave a review unless it was a wonderful experience and everyone should know about it.. or unfortunately a bad experience. I took my 2 fur babies here about 2 weeks ago and the seemed happy when I picked them up -Yay! So i decided to start taking them here for indoor play time to burn some energy paying with other dogs. Well that isn't the case. I dropped my 2 fur babies off here at 3pm today ( a Saint Bernard and a Lab mix) and asked them to limit their time outside to like 10 mins as it it still 106 degrees outside and having a Saint Bernard she gets hot easily and can get heatstroke. I got home and turned on the web camera's at about 3:30pm so I could watch them play. I see them outside. I call at little after 4 as they are still outside and ask that they be brought inside. (I can see them outside still its the only Saint Bernard there). They bring them inside and I can see them on the (Happy Trails North) cam. Ok. They are in that room by themselves for about 10 mins while all the other dogs are still outside. I'm still watching the camera's then they are gone. I waited a bit then called to check on them and was told they are in the back in a room that is inside but leads to outside and there are no camera's here.. um ok??? I saw that someone was moping the floor in happy trails north room and then it remained empty for the next hour+..I waited an hour then called again. "They are still in the back room, its an inside room that leads to outside". I asked if they were back there by themselves and was told yes. Ok now I am pretty upset as its been over 2 hours and my dogs are in a back room by themselves while all the other dogs are STILL outside. Its about 5- 5:30 pm and its still 106 outside. I get in my car to go pick them up as this is not what I had in mind. If i wanted them to be outside first of all I would of just taken them to a dog park. Second. they are just laying on the floor in a back room by themselves!!!!! poor pups. As I pick them up I asked why they are not playing with other dogs. They told me they cant move all the dogs inside just to play with mine as its feeding time and towards the end of the day and they need to clean. Ok... so you leave the dogs outside after 3pm till closing (7pm) to feed them??? And in the heat?? I told her it would of been nice if she had told me that as I brought them here to play inside. :( And specifically asked nicely that they not be outside long. Anyway. I was upset that my poor dogs were in a back room by themselves for over 2 hours and would of been for the whole 4 hours till closing if i had not picked them up. Its the middle of summer.. its 106-120 degrees outside. Not cool that they leave dogs outside in the heat. :( I will definitely not return as they seem to lack compassion here. read more

To call it a kennel would be blasphemy. This is a cage free pet hotel with web cams and friendly/consistent staff. While it is a bit more expensive to board your dog here, its not that much more than the kennels that keep your dog in a cage & charge you extra to give your animal attention or a treat. Your dog must be interviewed to make sure he gets along with the other animals. If your dog is social and doesn't like to be ignored the entire time you are on vacation, Villa La Paws is a must. Don't let the strip mall location deter you. They also offer pet daycare, so there are always lots of dogs that join in on the playtime. They offer some discounts & packages to help with the pricing. I don't post online reviews, but in this instance I felt the need to speak up so other pet owners are aware of what can happen here. I had been boarding my dog at Villa La Paws fairly regularly for the last few years without any issues. She was well received there and I liked their flexible pick-up windows. However, her most recent visit changed all that. As you can see in the pictures I posted, she had sections of her paw pads sliced away on both of her back paws. I didn't notice right away until I got her home and she was limping. I then gave her a bath and saw the extent of the damage. No one said anything about this when I picked her up. I returned a few days later to get an explanation on what happened, and I was told a note was left saying "she was really licking her paws". So they did nothing to see what the issue was, and wouldn't have spoken a word to me about it unless I had confronted them. My pup is a big dog, and I fully understand dogs can get rambunctious and unintentionally hurt themselves. If they had simply told me what happened, and what they had done to address the problem, this wouldn't had been an issue. Instead they said nothing until I made it an issue. This is completely unacceptable. It then leads me to think what else is going on there I don't know about! I will never take my pup back to this place. read more

While many dogs are crate-trained and find their little cages comforting, my four-legged daughter thinks differently. So, when it came time to find a place for her to board over Thanksgiving weekend I was surprised that my search came up with so few cage-free facilities in the Phoenix area. I was very intrigued by what I had read about Villa La Paws so we made an appointment to see the facility and for our girl to have her trial observation time. I appreciate the fact that they observe all potential "clients" ahead of time to make sure they are socialized. After she passed her test, we signed her up for her Turkey Day slumber party weekend and were very pleased with the service she received. We had a very early flight out on Thanksgiving but the staff were flexible with our sunrise drop-off time. Each dog has a designated bucket so you can bring your own food and treats with instructions and be confident that they will remain on their regular feeding schedule. My husband and I loved the fact that we could log onto the webcams and see our girl playing and resting day and night. The ample, clean indoor and outdoor space is really great and it was adorable seeing the dogs all snuggled up together at night via the webcams. The daily report cards were super cute, too. Be sure to ask about the requisite pick-up and drop-off times for boarding, though. We were surprised to see a day care fee added to our last day based on the time we came to get her. read more

I took my pup back because I love that they don't put them in kennels and they get to interact with other dogs. I did however ask for another groomer. When I came to pick her up they let me know that they had comped her grooming because of what had happened last time and the groomer took me out with her and went over things he found on her such as a hotspot I already knew about. We LOVE Phoenix Dogs 24/7! By we, I mean me, my husband and my frenchie Ryker! Ryker goes to doggie daycare Monday - Friday as well as he boards there when we travel. Ryker LOVES the staff (so do we), the dogs as well as when he does spend the night, they don't crate/cage and therefore Ryker can snuggle up and sleep with other dogs. This has to be one of the best staffed / best best facilities in the Valley. My dogs have been getting groomed and cared for there for too many years to count. As nervous as they are heading over, they have the greatest visits and come home looking like the most gorgeous dogs in the World. Add to that, the groomers are top-notch and Michaela is first-class. I just moved to Phoenix and need a good groomer for my poodle. I read all the great reviews from this place. Before I take my precious baby to a new groomer, I check the place out myself. First, the place is hard to find. It is hidden in the back of an old shopping center. I went inside to inquire about prices and the gentleman at the front desk was very pleasant and knowledgeable and even took us around to the grooming area so we could see if it was clean, etc. However, the place WREAKED! From the moment I walked in, the smell was overwhelming. It smelled of urine and feces. It smelled so bad that I thought I would pass out. The stench got worse as I walked throughout the facility. How could I leave my baby in a place that I can't even stay in for more than 5 minutes?! While the reviews are great, I wonder how many of the reviewers toured the facility? I felt dirty just being there. This place needs a DEEP DEEP DEEP cleaning. I am beyond words for the filth and bacteria that must be lurking within. My dog deserves clean. We will not be using them as a groomer. read more

I have taken my Toby to Villa La Paws several times now. Our experience has been excellent each time. I have tried kenneling options in the past. My dog is very social, and is much happier in the group care environment at Villa La Paws. All of the staff I have met at various time, including early mornings and late at night, always show respect and love for the dogs in their care. When I have to be out of town, it is great to have Villa La Paws available as a second home for my companion. read more

After making the rounds of all of the phoenix based dog daycares, i have to say that this was the only one that I wanted to leave my dogs at. Many of the other daycares require that the dogs go into a kennel for at least an hour at lunch, but this place is completely cage free. Its held in a former preschool so there are rooms to divide the dogs into different playgroups, but they usually play in just a few large ones. We have not used it for boarding yet, but are trying that out in a few weeks. The only issue that I dont love about this place is that the dogs are playing outside and inside, so they can get pretty dirty, but hey, id rather have a dirty happy dog than a bored one! read more

I have thought for a long time about whether or not to leave a review regarding my experience, but ultimately I do not want another dog or owner to go through the same experiences. My dogs have been groomed here for about 4 years (formerly Villa La Paws) and up until about a year ago I had no issues. The last few times that both of my dogs have been groomed here, there have been some very upsetting mistakes. One of my dogs is 4 years old and a tiny 4 pounds and he does get extremely scared and defensive at times (he has never bitten or attacked anyone), which I understand can cause difficulty for groomers and little issues do not bother me due to his difficulty at times. However, the first incident was a time when he was receiving a full groom from Lorenzo and he was cut quite badly on his chest. Lorenzo did contact my mother (they get our phone numbers mixed up and I was at work so it wasn't a problem that I wasn't directly contacted) and told her about the situation. While it wasn't a minor cut, I assumed that it was an honest accident and maybe my dog had moved and caused it. I brought my dog back for another groom at a later date along with my family's dog who is extremely well tempered and elderly at 14 years old given that he is a large breed and they both saw Lorenzo. I don't request a specific groomer so I assumed it would be fine although I was a little worried considering the previous accident. This time I picked them both up and upon getting them home I noticed multiple very concerning things. Both dogs appeared scared and not their usual self immediately after picking them up. On both dogs, most of their nails were clipped so short that I was completely shocked and couldn't even tell if their nails were still there. I understand an accidental short clip as the smaller dog does move around, but almost every one of both of their nails were clipped almost down to the paw. The other issue that I noticed was on my small dog, he had a huge cut on his testicles that covered the entire side of them. It was huge as if the entire chunk of skin had just been shaved completely off. The whole cut was larger than the size of a quarter and he is a four pound dog so I would definitely not consider that minor due to his size. There have been other minor issues with their hair cuts where it wasn't done as we asked, but that was never an issue for me personally. When I bring my dogs to get groomed, I expect that they will be taken care of, not that I will have to worry about them being hurt. My dogs are a part of my family, and to see that they have been cared for so poorly in such a vulnerable situation for them breaks my heart completely. I should not be worried that my dog will return home from their hair cut with injuries that were either caused by careless mistakes or by someone intending to do them harm. And while I do believe that these were just honest mistakes given that every employee that I have met have been wonderful to myself and my dogs while I am still in the building, I am putting my full trust in them as I do not know what goes on once I leave. These mistakes should not have happened multiple times and definitely not to the extent of harm that was caused. read more
