Applewood is a good and trustworthy pet resort. We have our dog groomed here and they have always done a solid job. Even though it's been awhile since our dog has staid in the hotel, they did a good job and we felt comfortable while they had him. The animal hospital is the only place our dog has gone. The care he has received is always top notch. While there are other options to take your pet, Applewood is a good value and I feel comfortable every time we use them! read more

As someone also reported I have a had terrible experience. In mid July we checked our perfectly healthy beautiful and intelligent corgi daughter into the "resort" 1 day after we pick her up she's sick and is diagnosed with pancreatitis and a kidney infection and now after suffering for 2 months she is fighting for her life! I don't know what they did to her but I blame this place and would not take any animal you love there! Do you wonder why they don't have cameras to allow you to check in on your loved one??? God welcomed our beloved Kali into heaven last night. She put up a strong fight but never recovered from her stay at Applewood. read more

With how frequently I travel, I've tried 3 boarding options for my dog and Applewood is by far the best. It might not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and their staff is amazing- from the groomers to the front desk staff & everyone really. Today September 20, 2023 is one of the worst days I've had in a long, long, long time. Applewood Pet Resort in Phoenix absolutely butchered my precious Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Bimbo and Scoobie. They went in for a routine, grooming and bathing with a request to trim their ears. They came back completely shaved. These are show dogs purebred. My heart is broken. My son is traumatized. It will take a good two years for their coats to be returned to where they werethis morning. No one I mean no one is this stupid. These dogs have a four year history at Applewood Pet Resort in Phoenix. Not once have they had anything other than a light trimming of their ears. It was a good hassle Free experience we dropped our 3 fur babies off for 5 days they had a great time I didn't once feel bad vibes from the staff or the pet resort They provided food and beds if you wanted they took very good care of our dogs definitely will take them back next time we are out of town!! My husband and I were planning a weekend away and decided to use Applewood Pet Resort for the first time to board our dog. We initially visited the resort with our dog and were given a tour which was impressive to say the least. They offer expansive play areas that can be separated by dog size and they are offer a pool for those dogs that like playing in water. We ultimately choose a classic suite for our dog to be boarded in and informed the desk person who was processing our reservation that we would bringing in her carrier as well for her to sleep in. We were told that was fine and we also noticed that the classic suite had plenty of room. During our weekend away we were glad that we didn't hear from the Applewood...you know the old saying? No news is good news! When we arrived back in town we immediately drove to Applewood to pick up our dog. I was told by the person behind the desk who checked me out that we would get a puppy/dog report other than that she didn't know how she did during her stay. We never received any kind of report. Next our dog was brought out and she was as happy as can be...good sign! Lastly our kennel was brought out and and handed to me and we noticed it wreaked of wet urine. I questioned the urine on the kennel and the person that handed me the kennel just stared at me. No response...nothing! So now we have a $50+ dog kennel in our back yard that we will probably have to throw away because we will never get that smell out. I had my dog boarded for the first time for a long weekend while I went out of town. Overall it was a good experience. Staff were super friendly and enthusiastic, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They gave me a tour of the facility and answered all of my questions. I appreciated that they allow you to bring your own dog bed and toys for your dog, and that they had options for group play and individual play during the day. My dog seemed happy when I picked her up and they also gave her a bath and trimmed her nails the day I picked her up which was a bonus! Overall very pleased with the service and the staff! read more

2 stars because my dog is recovering and the applewood animal hospital staff is amazing. If you board your dog here plan on spending an additional $120 at the pet hospital when you pick up your pet. My dog got sick with terrible kennel cough (yes she had her bordetella vaccine 01/2021). After mentioning this to some neighbors all of them also said they picked up their dog with kennel cough. My dog is now on a heavy antibiotic for two weeks, she's lethargic and can't play with other dogs. This is after being boarded at this facility for almost a week. There are other cleaner establishments I will take my dog too as well as never recommending this place. Also the manager- I believe his name is Bobby, was of no help so don't plan on having any understanding from the pet resort end. read more

We had a great experience here at Applewood. My big Husky came home happy and super soft. They really took great care of him that I had to make an Appt with the clinic next door since I was so impressed. I have to leave a review for the Vet Clinic separately, but it was outstanding. They also got his results early for the annual test I do. Fairly affordable for both locations, Grooming and Vet. Great people, our baby was happy and healthy each time we go. read more

About 2 years ago I left my dog at Applewood. After an extensive exchange of what they offer in comparison to what I needed I came back to find my dog was mistreated. By that I mean, I discussed with one of the owners, 2 of the handlers and the front desk personal that my dog has Epilepsy and needed his pills and CBD to control his seizures. After being gone a week, when I went to pick him up, NONE of his medication had been administered as the pill count was unchanged and the bottle of CBD unopened. I was very upset and told to call the owner and leave a message. I did that and also sent an email. They ignored me, completely. I'm sure they are ok with daily drop offs but for extended stay or if your dog has special needs don't expect them to care. read more

I love this place. I take my lil guy there all of the time when he needs grooming. Its a little pricey but not too bad. Only complaint I have is that they seem to do the best on the first job and then after that they dont seem to want to do as great as they did the first time. Dont get me wrong tho...they always do a very nice job they just seem to forget to clip one nail or they cut the hair on his face in a choppy way etc...I do love this place though and I wouldnt stop going to them. They seem to also forget to call you to when your dog is done....thats boo! lol read more

We have always taken our dog Mogul to Johan for grooming since the first day Mogul joined our family. Johan's grooming techniques are the best in the valley. I contacted Applewood today to find out when I could take Mogul in and was told Johan has taken an indefinite leave of absence. We heard good things about this place from a long time friend and customer of theirs. We were headed on a 4 day vacation so we left our 11 month old pup there and I am extremely disheartened by our experience. I have never been one to leave a bad review because I've worked in customer service my entire life and I know what it's like. However, you would think the employees that work at this place and represent Applewood would be people who truly care about pets and have an understanding that our pets are truly family. When checking in, we received what felt like a very rushed experience, we didn't get a tour or to even view where our pup would be staying, we got no run-down or explanation as to what his schedule would be like, how everything is managed, etc even though we stated this was our first time and our pups first time being away from us, they didn't seem to care much. We were promised photos and updates of our pup from the girl at the front desk before we left. I called everyday for 3 days of our vacation and received no updates and no photos. One of those days the man that works at the facility picked up the phone and stated "it's not like we have some photographers walking around taking photos of the dogs" & "If we have time to snap a quick photo, we will, but it's not likely because we are very busy" That tells me not only do you not care about your customers wants you also are stating that during my dogs 30 minutes of play time each day and 15 minute leash walks, you don't have time to snap a photo of him. So are you actually taking the time to care for my dog if you can't even do that? That was all bad enough from the customer service side of things. We had hopes that when we came to pick our pup up he would be happy, tail wagging and seem in good spirits. He was shaking when we walked out of the resort. Immediately peed several times probably because he's been holding his bladder for so long & we have just discovered he has kennel cough & some torn vocal chords from barking and crying so much because he was left alone for long periods of time. This facility truly looks beautiful inside and out but things aren't always what they seem. The front desk will seem friendly when you are face to face but they are rude and couldn't care less over the phone. If you care for & love your pet like we do ours, I don't advise bringing them to Applewood. We will never be leaving our pup again after this terrible, saddening experience and we hope that this review saves someone else from experiencing the same sadness we are. read more

I have boarded my dogs at Applewood multiple times without issue, and truly do believe that they take good care of the animals there. However, I will never go back again. They do not seem to know how to hold or take reservations, and I had issues with this on two separate occasions. I called months in advance for two separate reservations, neither of which were held/kept. They were completely unapologetic and unwilling to help fix an issue that they created and refused to acknowledge. In addition - while they did take good care of my dogs the times that they did board there, I never once received an update or pictures during their stays. Probably the only boarding facility or pet sitter that won't provide you with an update on your animals during their stay. Again - I do think this facility takes care of animals well. They do no thave great customer service though, and I will never take my business there again. Their mistakes could have cost me a lot of money and a lot of time, and definitely caused a lot of stress for me. Not worth it - will find better facilities and/or pet sitters in the future that know how to communicate with clients and hold reservations. read more

I packed a bag of food and treats and asked them to only serve my dog the food we provided. At pickup not one can was missing or opened. My dog was sick for a week after. Everyday I called they said they would get a picture to me and said "oh she's doing great" but never received a picture or an update from them. I know they are busy but when the staff says they can do something like feed the food we provide that's what is expected to be done. I even confirmed over and over again before our visit that this was a request they could do. read more

Dropped our dog off for five days of boarding. Left a few pre-approved treats as well as a short letter about our dog's tendencies and quirks that we mentioned upon check-in. When we returned, the treats were still in the bag we dropped him off with, and the brief letter was unopened. OK, fine, we didn't expect *too* much special treatment despite the price. But we did ask (and pay) for the dog to be groomed during his stay and we don't think he was--a greasy coat and lots of loose hair. Further, despite having his shots, he came down with a terrible kennel cough about five days after pickup. Two visits to the vet and some meds and he's finally recovering. This place has very nice people working there and very attractive facilities, but I don't think we'll return considering the price versus the care we think our dog received. read more

Took them 5 hours to give my dog a haircut and it wasn't a good haircut, looked choppy to where I probably could've done a better job. I normally take my dog to OhMyDog and they always do such a fantastic job but unfortunately they were all booked up so I decided to try a new place..well, I regret it especially because she got really bad dandruff from whatever products they used and I never had an issue with dandruff before until after taking my dog to the groomers here. Even my friends noticed that the haircut was choppy and that her hair was dry. I had to give her a deep conditioning bath and it helped a lot! So that goes to show that whatever they used on her, was not good and it's not like I use any fancy deep conditioner but clearly it's 100000x better than whatever they use. read more

I sought out Applewood when we first moved to AZ, after being highly recommended by my best friend, who is a dog breeder and award winning champion breeder. They offer a variety of activities and accommodations for your pet, we were thrilled w/their services. However, the last 2 times (March 2023 and August 2023) we boarded our very healthy dog of 22 months at Applewood, she contracted "kennel cough" each time which resulted in a Vet visit to obtain an antibiotic. So very disappointed. I don't know if they've gone through new mgmnt, but it's not the same as when we first started. We will not be boarding our dog there anymore. BTW, I did make me them aware of her virus the first time, and they brushed it off. So when it happened the 2nd time - no more - so disappointed. read more

I brought my two Shih Tzus here for grooming after really struggling to find somewhere that actually knew how to do puppy cut on this breed. I've had some really weird, ugly, and uneven grooms leading up to Applewood, despite the fact that I always come with pictures of what I want. Applewood has a very nice facility and the cost is not too much more than other groomers. I paid $120 +tip for both dogs. They left with really professional looking cuts. Their bodies looked perfect but their faces could have looked a little better. I still felt like the picture I provided was not reproduced. But that being said, this is the best groomer I've been to and will definitely be back. read more
