When I walked in for the first time, someone who was either an owner or a manager greeted me and introduced me to the little market and talked me through the menu which I really appreciated. I didn't know this, but it's a sister restaurant to Cannoli's! I ended up getting the gyro plate, and being someone who grew up with a yiayia who LOVED to cook, this was everything Greek food is supposed to be. I am so happy that Parea exists! As a fan of Manoli's, I am thrilled that there is now a more casual version that still serves up high quality food. I have had the chicken gyro and the chicken salad. Both are delicious. The prices are upper/middle for fast casual, but acceptable, especially given the nice ambiance and superbly high quality of food. The service is also friendly-- they will answer any questions and are very patient when I bring folks who haven't been there before and have plenty of questions before ordering. I also love that they have a market area where you can buy take-and-bake items. The only thing I wish is that they would stay open for one more hour in the evenings, past 6pm, so that I can dine here on a more frequent basis on weekday nights (I typically don't get back into SLC til later!)! read more

Had a great experience at Parea! The cozy, homey vibe made it a perfect spot to eat and relax. I tried the grass-fed beef and lamb gyro, which was a great portion and packed with fresh flavors. I also had a side of Potato Wedges. I believe these potatoes had 2 step process for the super crisp outside and perfectly moist on the inside (a bit greasy) ....but So Good. First time trying this place! The employees were so nice. I was ordering and my 2 year old was upset because she was hungry and they gave her a little piece of olive oil cake to cheer her up. I ordered a gyro with beef and lamb meat. The gyro was big and filling. It was very good. I ordered a side of their crispy potato wedges for my daughter which she loved. They were indeed crispy and so delicious. They had a really good seasoning on them that made them so good. They gave us some ketchup to dip them in but it was seasoned so nice that you didn't need to dip them in anything. My gyro also had a few potato wedges in it which j loved. My dad was also with us and he ordered a salad. The salad was big and filling as well. It also came with a big pita on the side. The atmosphere of this place was fun. Given the rather luxe dining options located along this stretch of Harvey Milk Boulevard (Veneto, Matteo, Manoli's, Beltex Meats), it's nice to have a mid-range price point restaurant that isn't tacos or pizza. Parea has a compact menu (essentially, gyros or salad) that is deliciously prepared in house from scratch. Don't sleep on the refreshing iced frappé coffee or the desserts, either! Okay, I've heard people loud and clear - yes, it's a $16 gyro. And... It's worth it. I had the pleasure of trying the gyro at Parea and while at first glance it might seem expensive, you should hold your tongue until it hits your tongue and then you'll see why it's worth every penny. Every single ingredient smacks of homemade quality, especially the pita. The pita truly is the game changing element that separates this gyro from others. It has a chew that is hard to describe, but once you've had it yourself, you'll get it. The tzaziki sauce isn't overpowering and I love that the tomatoes are diced and stayed on the sandwich. The lamb and beef combination is dense and full of flavor. As a unique bonus, a large wedge of rosemary -spiced potato is in there too. It works beautifully and mine was roasted to puffy perfection. The last bite is as good as the first and that is to say that it's one amazing gyro and I am excited to try their other offerings. Now, for the money, if I were eating a gyro every day of the week, I'd be in line at Greek Souvlaki on 3rd South. However, if I'm looking for serious quality over quantity, then Parea is where I'd hang my hat. The price, when compared to other sandwiches around the Salt Lake Valley, is not out of line for what you get. Just as the Oldsmobile Silhouette featured in the film Get Shorty was the "Cadillac of minivans", thus is the sandwich at Parea the Cadillac of gyros. What really hurt was the upsell on the "special on soup" which ended up costing $12 for a pretty average Greek lemon chicken soup served with pita chips that were so overdone the only way to eat them was to crumble them into the soup to soften. Let me forewarn you, the fancy cucumber soda is $6. I wish them the best, it was packed but once the newness vibe wears off I imagine you will see a For Rent sign out front. read more

The gyro was tender and flavorful, the sauce was fresh and perfectly tangy, and the Greek salad was vibrant and crisp. You can tell the kitchen puts real care into the food here. The staff added to the experience, too, with a genuinely warm and friendly vibe that makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The space itself has a lot of charm, with beautiful natural light streaming through the windows, giving it an open, airy feel. But while the design works aesthetically, the layout and acoustics have some drawbacks. With such an open setup, there just isn't enough seating, and the tables are spaced far enough apart that it feels inefficient--especially when we ended up standing and waiting for a while before a spot opened up. Also, the noise level was high; some wall and ceiling dampening would really help reduce the echo in the room. Another drawback is the price. For a casual place where you bus your own tables, the cost seemed pretty steep. A single gyro is $16, and adding a salad and just a few potato wedges quickly pushes the meal into high-price territory. For two people, we spent over $40, which felt a little excessive for a casual lunch, even with the great food. In the end, Parea is a restaurant that delivers delicious Greek food in a friendly, bright space, but with a few kinks to work out. While I'd go back for the food, it's hard not to wish for a bit more value and a more comfortable, quieter dining experience. read more
