Stopped by here on my way out of St. Marks because it's right around the corner and looked like a fun local joint to check out. I love that they have kept everything super local and menu prices haven't been substantially impacted because I got an awesome Gyro plate with rice and fries for $10 and that is just a super sick deal for pretty decent fast dining food these days. It's definitely made fresh in house and I liked that they do the rice a little different than other Greek places here with the additional sauce on top. Also love that they season the fry sauce because every Greek place shoul customize their fry sauce lol. The Gyro was great, service was super friendly and hospitable, on the day I came I just had the place all to myself and had lunch by myself in silence while enjoying the food. If you're in the area, this place is quick, easy, very fair in price to portion ratio and very convenient especially if you're coming out of the hospital across the street. I had my husband run across the street a couple times to grab me food from here while in the hospital because it's just right there and it's an easy place to go grab something fast not just because it's good, but to also avoid the awful hospital food at the same time- will definitely be a stop by whenever I'm in the area. read more

Was expecting the same thing you get at every Greek place but was surprised by how damn good the burgers were. I got a bacon burger and an avocado burger. Both were cooked to perfection (pink in the center) with a tasty seasoning that enhanced the flavor further. The avocado burger had probably a half an avocado on it (usually places will give you like a quarter if that) and the bacon burger's bacon was thick, plentiful, and not overcooked unlike most places (looking at you 5 Guys). The young man at the register was cheery and helpful. The place was old and wouldn't win any awards for style or beauty but it was clean and the seats were comfortable and in good repair. read more

i've been craving a gyro for a while.. something so simple but it seems that everyone likes to overcomplicate it or drown it in sauce. after driving by tickles for longer than i care to admit, i finally stopped in for a gyro. and it was everything i had been craving. i mentioned i wasn't a big fan of fry sauce but the owner talked me into trying theirs and i'm really glad he did because he was right: not all fry sauces are equal. that whole exchange made my day. i'm pretty confident that i'll be craving many more gyros from tickles. read more

I had a Greek salad w/ Gyro meat for lunch, and it wasn't great. With all the Greek fast food available in the Murray area, this isn't a place I'll revisit. There was hardly any gyro meat on the salad, and so many kalamata olives it was ridiculous (unpitted too...so I had to pit them by hand at my desk at work). I didn't love the red dressing they had for the salad, it wasn't what I was used to, and seemed overly salty and sour. The garlic bread was delicious. I would like to give this place one more try and see how their gyro is, then I'll come back for an update. UPDATE: unfortunately it was worse. My review went from 3 stars to 2 stars. I honestly don't know how this place is in business. This time I got the Gyro platter with rice and Greek salad. The rice was not the lemony rice Greeks are famous for, but unseasoned entirely and covered with a strange tomato meat sauce that tasted like it came out of a can of chef Boyardee ravioli. I couldn't stomach more than one bite. I asked for ranch this time for my salad since I knew I didn't like their dressing, but they got my order wrong. Finally, and the only reason they keep 2 stars, the Gyro was ok. The meat was delicious. The tatziki sauce wasn't actual sauce, it was just plain yogurt. I didn't taste a single cucumber or seasoning other than what seemed to be parsley sprinkled on the very top. I will never go back, and I don't think anyone should waste money there. read more

This place really is a dive. I went about 8:00PM on a Friday night and the place was a ghost town. I almost thought they weren't open. I was greeted by the owner. He was very nice and helpful. He said he had the restaurant for 35 years. The restaurant was named after a friend of his that was a clown (check out the picture). =-The Good-= The Gyro was really good. Lots of meat and a good white sauce. The Gyro meat had a little crispy edge, just like it should. The service was also great. Very friendly owner. =-The Bad-= The fountain machine is behind the counter. They did offer refills, but this is an inconvenience. To be fair I bet the restaurant looked similar 35 years ago. Not much has changed and a fountain machine customer accessible 35 years ago was not a thing. =-The Ugly-= No ugly here. Just good food. This is a dive so don't come expecting a fancy super clean restaurant, but the food is good. The service was great. I would highly recommend stopping by for a Gyro. read more

I drove past here with an out-of-state coworker once. "Tickles!" she said, what in the world kind of place is that?" Fair question, and as I've seen it a million times I've never stopped to think how funny of a name it really is. Hardly the kind of name you'd attribute to a restaurant that serves a heavy Greek slant on fast food, but there you have it. Tickles is not fancy. Most times when I say that, I mean that it's fine, but not fancy. In this case, though, I don't think I'm slighting Tickles to call it a dive. It embraces that side-of-the-road divey kind of feel and it's incredibly dated, with a really wonky drive-thru and only two parking places out front (though you can park next door at Starbucks, I think). And the dining area is super old school and dated. But I ain't even mad. They're not trying to be anything more than that: a kind of divey small town ma and pa shop. The menu is simple. You might see that by far the gyro is the most popular, but the Tuesday special is spaghetti, so, I mean, how do you classify that cuisine? I ordered the Thursday special and at $6.45 you're hardly going to find a better deal in town: pork souvlaki, rice (or fries) and a small salad. This is basic food, with basic sauces, but they're tasty. It's different. And also, did I mention $6.45 for the daily special?? It's worth that price of admission just to say you ate at a place called Tickles. read more

I'm a fan of this place. There are a few Greek joints equidistant from my house and I'd say Tickles is my favorite. The gyro plate for 9 bucks and change is a feel-good meal that leaves me satisfied. The aesthetics of the place could use some work. I'm not really bothered by this type of thing, but it feels really old in here. And not old in a charming way, either. I also don't love the heavy use of styrofoam cups and plates. Overall though, I enjoyed my meal and will probably return. read more

Being relatively new to Utah, I was excited to hear about a Greek eatery close to my place of employment. Hurriedly, I sought lunch at the oddly-named restaurant to see how authentic the experience would be. ATMOSPHERE - 4/10 ______________________________ You might not judge a book by it's cover but there's a spectrum to consider when applying this adage to a restaurant. If you're eating at a little "hole in the wall," you want to be certain that there isn't a literal hole in their wall...with cockroaches crawling out of it. Fortunately, I didn't detect any obvious sign of neglect to that extreme at Tickles but I would not grade this establishment as one lending itself to the theme of the food. This isn't a deal-breaker for me and the inside of the eatery was sufficiently clean but it could have just as easily once been an old, burger joint. I saw a piece of paper trash under the table I sat at and the table could've been a little cleaner but nothing too cringe-worthy. The building has large windows on it's front to allow for natural light. The place looks considerably old and not in a charming way. There are booths and small tables. You could bring a family here for a casual lunch. While I was there, I saw one other patron enter, order, and leave. I didn't mind being the only one there although to some this may be an indicator of certain things. I dined in but there is a drive through to use, should you wish. FOOD - 5/10 ______________________________ Having eaten at legitimate, Greek restaurants in California, my high hopes for the food quality at Tickles were left somewhat disappointed. I ordered a gyro, fries with fry sauce, and baklava. The portion sizes were satisfactory although the gyro itself was smaller and less adorned than others I've had. That said, I found the amount of gyro meat to be generous. The fries were of good texture but nothing extraordinary. I can't understand how some people have reviewed the fry sauce with such high marks. It seemed to noticeably lack flavor and I'd consider the fry sauce at Arctic Circle as better! I've eaten plenty of baklava and this one seemed overly-saturated with honey. Overall, things averaged out to be simply middle-of-the-road. I did dine in and the food was served on a styrofoam plate, if that's any indicator. I don't know if it's patently Greek or not but other Greek restaurants I've visited have offered falafel and dolmas which would've been welcome appetizers here but I did not see them on the menu. There's a general assumption held by many, albeit a fallible one that if the owner of a restaurant is of the same origin as the food being served (i.e. a person of Italian origin serving Italian food, etc.) that the food will be authentic. If I had to issue judgment, I would guess the owner/operator to be of Greek ethnicity. This notion (for me) did not resonate true here at Tickles. SERVICE - 6.5/10 ______________________________ The older gentleman who seems to be the owner-operator was pleasant enough although his personality only seemed to manifest when he thanked me for coming, after I was done with my meal. There seemed to be only one other employee, the cook. EXTRAS - ?/10 ______________________________ I did not survey the restroom. The building is small and situated near the corner (next to Starbucks) although easy to miss if you aren't careful. The parking lot is in the rear of the building and you nearly have to drive through the drive-thru lane to get to it. RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE OWNER ______________________________ I believe that some relatively small changes to Tickles would make it a more welcome place and deserving of repeat patronage. 1.) Eliminate styrofoam plates and paper cups, instead using actual glassware. 2.) Eliminate painted advertisements on the windows. 3.) Fix the lettering on the restaurant sign, drive thru menu, and inside wall menu. Old, crooked, and missing letters damage the aesthetic. 4.) Do something to dress the fries a little such as a light seasoning. 5.) Offer lettuce, cucumbers, feta and kalamata olives as gyro ingredients. There may be a danger of cannibalizing salad sales but it'd put the gyro over the top. 6.) If it's not a house-made tzatziki sauce (and I wasn't sure it was), create one which will definitely taste better than a store-bought option. 7.) Dress the exterior/interior with Greek-specific paraphernalia with a focus on cleanliness and a homey-feel. SUMMARY ______________________________ I would daresay that for the uninitiated to Greek food, one might find themselves more enamored with Tickles than I did. I would not consider it a "bad" place but fairly average and the food is certainly better than a fast food restaurant. I would recommend Tickles if your expectations aren't set for anything beyond a 2.5 - 3 star out of 5 experience. read more

I don't know when people from Greece decided to settle in Salt Lake and I don't know when a bunch of them decided to open burger joints, but I'm glad they did. there are other Greek burger joints that are close to my house, but one thing Tickles has that sets itself apart from the rest is a funny name. the best thing about Greek burger joints is that you can get a gyro instead. the other best thing is that most of these places are run by old Greek dudes and old Greek dudes are super cool (I have no idea why this is the case, but it's totally true). what's kind of sad about Tickles is that while they hit the mark with the old Greek dude, the gyro was just kind of average. the pita was nice and toasted, but the meat and the tzatziki were both kind of meh. I still enjoyed the gyro because as a rule all gyros are delicious. I also intend to go back because 1) I want to figure out the correct way to go through the drive-thru (it has this doorbell attached to it that I didn't press although I felt like I should have and I don't know where you are supposed to drive when you leave so I totally ramped a curb) and 2) they have something on the menu called chicken fagitas (see my pic, maybe this is a real thing and FAMILY GUY IS NOT FUNNY). I kind of expect other things on the menu to be way good and when they are I will amend my rating. so while I was not totally into Tickles, I will be back because I'm a sucker for stuff with funny names. read more

All the food was pretty bland. I had the Gyro and fries. Everything seemed to taste like everything else, and it was just one overall mass of food that I ate. This is my favorite local "mom and pop" joint. I LOVE the gyros, the bacon cheeseburger, the souvlaki. The soft drinks are always perfectly mixed, too. I eat there weekly at least. Don't let the name or old appearance of the building scare you off; this place is a gem and those things actually add to the charm once you give it a chance. The owner is super nice and you can tell he appreciates and enjoys his customers and his work. Parking is tricky- I recommend entering off of 3900 S by the smoke shop and parking out back rather than entering from 900 E (unless you do the drive thru of course). read more

Tickles has an impressively diverse menu-no worries about taking the kids if you want Greek food and they don't - there are plenty of hamburger, cheeseburger options. However, being a Greek food LOVER, the gyro did not quite meet my standards. It was very average. The fries and fry sauce were really good. If I were to return I would try the souvlaki with a pita on the side - someone else ordered it and it seemed higher quality. The ambiance is fun and the customer service was great.
