This is a crazy location for such a great cafe. After going through the TSA style bag exam to enter the court house, your stomach expects the standard warmed over gas station quality food. Thankfully the flashbacks of airport food gone wrong we're shattered. The highlight is the Chicken Souvlaki. That is simply fantastic. Thy serve it with good quality Pita and a single skewer is enough for a light lunch with the salad and rice they serve it with. I was aiming for a low carb meal so I asked for more salad in place of rice and they gladly accommodated me. If you're hungrier you'll definitely want the extra skewer. Don't come for early breakfast. The posting says Roula's opens at 6:30 AM. After an early morning airport run, we searched for a unique breakfast place. We love Greek food. The reviews mentioned the cafe is located in a downtown federal building. Parking before 8 am costs $8. Street parking is not available until 8 am. We walked to the locked building. The guard, Doug Conrad, told us Roula does not ARRIVE until 7:30 or maybe 8 AM. We rushed back to our auto, and departed before we were charged $8. We'll just eat at home. read more

Their tzatziki cucumber sauce is my go to sauce for the burrito because it's so refreshing. So, yeah, you need to go through the security checkpoint before you can wander the vast hall of the Borg Cube. This minor, albeit necessary inconvenience, is what might be the only reason the place isn't packed all day long. We were the only ones there when we wanted some lunch. You're at the right place. Walk into the big shiny building. This is a super clean and modern courthouse with a Greek gem on the bottom level. We were greeted with friendly service and recommendations of their most popular items. My friend and I both got the chicken souvlaki. I told them I don't like salad and they kindly subbed the salad for tomato basil soup which was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and not too dry and went well with the tzatziki sauce. It would have been nice to have hummus to go with the warm toasty pita bread. The space was open and cozy at the same time. We felt no pressure to leave in a hurry. One would never really know of Roula's existence until a friend tips you off on the secret gem that's located on the first floor of an office building (?). The interior reminds me of a college dining hall more than a cafe or a restaurant, but personally i think that's part of the appeal. I don't go to Roula's for a nice, sit down experience. i go with coworkers to get some good, quick food during a busy work day. As most of the other yelpers have already noted, the owners are greek, but their menu is extremely diverse. They have some pretty good daily specials, of which my favorites include the meatloaf, lasagna, and the salmon spinach salad on fridays (but go early bc the salmon sells out QUICK... and by quick i mean by noon). But usually i go for the chicken souvlaki - the chicken is marinaded to perfection and is always deliciously juicy. i usually opt for fries instead of rice, and the greek salad it comes with is simple but spot on... i just wish they gave more of it! and of course it comes with pita and tzatziki. The souvlaki is my default and never disappoints. Roula's has a reputation in my office for amazing, HUGE brownies, however I'm not a fan. I think they're too rich and dense... but to each their own! i'll stick with the food here and opt for dessert elsewhere. read more

I am officially a huge fan of Roula's. The food is made in house and they have incredible daily specials. The first time I went I got the Salmon Spinach Salad. The Salmon was huge, juicy, and seasoned just right. The second time I went I decided to try one of their Greek options. I went with the Gyro salad. The meat was juicy and delicious, the dressing was just right, and the white sauce was just the right combination of yogurt sauce to cucumber and onion. Everything on the menu looks incredible, as well as the salad bar that is available. I will be checking their website regularly for their daily specials. They also have an array of delicious looking desserts that change regularly. As well as Free Cookie Friday. The seating area is open and bright, with lots of different table options. I would consider coming here for a casual business lunch. read more

Before they moved Roula's was located in the lobby of my office building so I was quite the regular for breakfast and lunch. Now they're about two block away on main and 4th and I still manage to get over there every few weeks. Their breakfast is great. Hot with fresh ingredients. It's quick and relatively inexpensive. Their lunches are also solid. Better than dinner food or fast food, they've got a few staples that really carry their menu. The souvlaki is delicious with a side of pita and fries a salad or rice. The gyro is delicious. Their burgers are good but not anything special but their fries are pretty amazing. I especially love their pasta special on Thursday definitely mix the Alfredo and red sauce for a delicious pink, with chicken and veggies, it's amazing. Its a generous portion and for $7.99 including a drink its a great deal. Overall it's a great reliable place to grab a quick bite. Which not only made it difficult to find, it means that you have to empty your pockets, take off you belt and watch, and go through a metal detector before being able to get to the restaurant, which looks more like the courthouse cafeteria than a restaurant. So, is the hassle worth it? Yes! (at least for breakfast) Their breakfast burrito, which is a favorite, according to the guy taking the order, is a delicious mix of hash browns, egg, seasoned meat, cheese (it comes with jalapeños, but I asked for it without them). It sounds like a simple enough dish, but was really good! Not only was it good, it was large as well. You certainly get your money's worth. If the rest of the food is as good as that breakfast burrito, then this place is a winner. Its certainly a shame they don't have a location that is easier to find and access. read more

Roula's is situated in the bottom of eagle gate college, parking is a mess, I paid to park on the street. I asked the guy working and he said they have a garage around back, but it isn't free for customers. Pretty sure it's a Greek family that owns it, I got a breakfast burrito, one of my weaknesses. It was good size, delicious, easy. It's difficult to mess up a breakfast burrito. As I was enjoying my burrito, I thought this place would be an excellent alternative to bayleaf for sober up food and/or pre-drunkenness food. Alas, they aren't open late. Too bad, I think they'd make good money. It's near the bars, not as close as bayleaf, but still. Oh, and it happen to randomly be free brownie day or something. Score. These guys have the yummiest chicken souvlaki but when I placed an order for take out, I find that apparently they've moved! And not just down the street but down the street and IN the courthouse - the courthouse where you must go through security to enter?! So to pick up my food, I had to call and confirm their new location and the fact that I really had to go through security. After stripping my handbag & jewelry, I finally got my lunch. I visited Roula's on a recent overnight stay in the city. It was right down the street for my hotel and I was wandering around looking for some breakfast one early afternoon. Don't judge. The good news is that they serve breakfast all day! Roula's also offers a great selection of sandwiches, baked goods, and special entrees. It is located in the bottom of an office building so it can be easy to miss if you don't see the sign on the sidewalk. The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious. At the time we were there they were offering a free half of a brownie if you like them on Facebook. It was well worth it! I will return if i need a quick bite in Salt Lake again. read more

We were in SLC for a convention for a week and ate at Roula's TWICE. Once for breakfast, which was recommended by the Concierge at the Little America Hotel, and then a second time for lunch 'cause my friend hadn't eaten souvlaki before and the breakfast was so good, lunch was worth a try. The food was fresh and delicious, with excellent flavors. We both polished off both breakfast and lunch, barely even leaving crumbs behind. In addition, while we were dwelling over breakfast, the co-owner came out from behind the counter to offer us a free brownie, telling us they were famous for them. With good reason! The brownie is delicious and chocolatey, with the occasional chocolate chip to add even more to the gooey, moist deliciousness. We go another one to split when we went back for lunch, even though it was Free Cookie Friday and the cookies ALSO looked good. but the brownie won out. If you like Greek, definitely go with their traditional menu. But if you're a bit wary of Greek food, rest assured they have selections you're familiar with, such as grilled cheese, burgers and fries, and standard breakfasts of eggs and bacon. The place was very very clean and I appreciated that A LOT. The service was quick and the people were friendly. The food was...okay. Nothing to write home about. The day that I went the special was meat loaf and it did NOT look yummy at all. I ended up getting a cobb salad to go and it was alright except they didn't put salad dressing in with it or ask if I wanted any so it was pretty boring. Also, it was a bit expensive for a to go salad that was boring. I could have gotten a better deal at Smiths with one of their preprepared salads. The atmosphere was okay, but the owl on the wall was too wanna be cutesy hipster for me. It was alright. But I won't be going there again. read more
