Sadly I couldn't find the flat cap or the pork pie I was after, but the Kangol my friend bought was quite affordable and not something you'd expect to find at a joint like this. Paris Hatters is very amazing place. The store looked unremarkable but Alex, the owner's daughter, was very helpful with my purchase of once in lifetime purchase of a Lucchese boots. They did not have my size but she called the manufacturer immediately and I'll have my boots next week. I enjoyed my purchase, I took my husband the following day and he too bought a Lucchese boots. I'm partial to the Dorfman-Pacific (California) brand for good value in a non-Western hat. They have plenty of D-P Western hats, but also a good selection of Panama hats (I bought one) and Indiana Jones-style felt hats (I bought one of these also.) The wool hat is crushable so I don't have to worry about it getting damaged on the plane home. I've priced these hats very near the factory, but Paris Hatters beat the local guys by a mile. Ricardo didn't follow me around and didn't pressure me at all. Offered to ship one or both hats in an insured box for a for a reasonable price ($20). They also sell beaver and other more costly hats and offer cleaning and blocking service. An old style full service hat store. Overall a great hat buying experience at a good price. read more

I'm looking for a Greek fisherman's hat. I called first. They said they had the color I wanted in stock. I drove all the way down from Stone Oak to give them my business because I believe in buying local. I even parked on the other side of downtown and walked all the way to their business with my five year old child, because there's no parking. I was determined to support them. Turns out they didn't have what I needed, which is understandable, but they really handled it poorly. I asked the woman who was helping me if she could help me figure out my hat size, so I could at least know what size I needed when they got more in, or possibly order one through them. If hats is your business that should be kind of a no-brainer. She was either unwilling to help me or said she could not help me with sizing. I was stunned. Another gentleman chimed in on the conversation and was a little friendlier saying he would get more in around the holidays. I get that these folks have been around a long time, but they could take a few lessons from The Haberdashery in Austin. They provided exceptional service. I made a big effort for these guys and they practically shunned me. Even if they get my hat in I probably won't be going to Paris again. read more

This place is fabulous and the history makes it even more special. The staff really know their products and were more than willing to explain the difference in the quality of the hats. I went in to purchase a straw hat, but left with a felt one. The switch meant I hadn't given thought to which one I might like. The staff have the experience to help select one that looks good for each person, and can judge size fairly quickly. The man who helped me selected a hat that fit perfectly and looked good on me. I wasn't perfectly happy with the shape of the brim, so he steamed and shaped it right there to my liking. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced as a consumer. My husband bought a hat from this place last October and we had a pleasant experience with the man that helped us. So it was without a doubt that we would go back to purchase a second hat for him for his birthday this year! What a mistake that was!!!! The "OWNERS WIFE" is the absolute rudest, disinterested, displeasing women I have ever met, yet alone do business with. When we came into the store she seemed very uninterested in what my husband was looking for. We ended up purchasing a hat, even though my husband was not 100% satisfied. He didn't even wear the hat out of the store we ended up taking it home in a box. Three days after the purchase my husband called into the store and spoke with the same dreadful women, who told him they do not do returns due to the many tourists that buy hats and try to return them a day after use. My husband made it very clear that he was simply requesting to exchange that never worn hat for another hat. As locals we decided to drive 35 minutes back to the store to see if there was any chance of an exchange after reading reviews where customers were offered an exchange. Upon arriving the unpleasant women asked loudly from the back how we can be helped, not even bothering to get up from her chair to assist. She knew exactly who we were and why we're were there considering it had only been about an hour after the phone conversation. When my husband politely asked if there was any chance of an exchange and even offered to pay for them to take it back, she refused and called her husband who didn't say much. The people who work here definitely need to take a class in customer service. Since there are multiple signs throughout the whole store instructing you not to touch the hats, when you see a hat you'd like to try on or have a question, you must ask for assistance. The problem is the people who work here look and act like you're bothering them. No smile, no friendliness.... like they'd like to be anywhere else but helping you. Abe the Hatter is a great guy. Upon realizing my father wasn't long for this world we wanted to get a hat myself a few friends bought my Dad 41 years ago restored. I toke it to him when he opened and my father passed away that day. We got a call that afternoon that the hat was ready. He did a fantastic job in restoring the hat and my friend and I were able to give it to my father one last time . He is resting with his favorite hat now. Took my hat in to get it shaped. I'd heard the radio advertising and had reasonable expectations. Took a second hat in to show what I needed. The gentlemen appeared disinterested, did a cursory job with the steam and handed it back (I estimate he took about 1 minute). Hat shape did not resemble the example. He then asked for $12. I asked him to re do it but he was clearly not interested and still failed to shape hat as requested after another attempt.
