Granted, every apartment complex has its share of problems, and The Core is no different, but for me the pros far outweigh the cons. Pros: Amazing area located near everything I possibly need (stores, bars, gym, my work, etc.). Very well priced for the area (I searched extensively and The Core was at about $50/month discount on average vs. other properties here) The amenities are great, I enjoy the main pool, the lap pool, the hot tub, pool table, the gym, and the outdoor grills with the TV. Staff have all been very helpful in my experience, maintenance orders are typically filled within 24 hours. Cons: Break-ins of cars happen periodically, but there's only so much The Core can be held responsible. We live in Houston and in a particularly high trafficked area...criminals know this. Any many people are foolish enough to leave valuable things in their cars, so it's tough to be too overly sympathetic. There's also a lot of dog poop on site, which again is more the residents' fault than The Core's. But who knows, maybe they could devote more maintenance time to cleaning it or something. Overall, it's a great complex that's VERY WELL PRICED compared to surrounding places and for me that's a strong selling point. I'll give up the concierge or fancy spa to save $200+ per month. The Core meets all my needs and has been an awesome place to live!

However, after about 3 years in and when the leasing office management changed, a lot of things went downhill. I usually used to park on the incline between the 4th floor and the rooftop parking. Some thieves were about to drive into the community up to my car and steal all 4 of my tires in broad daylight (noon). While I shouldn't have been surprised, since there was another car on the third floor whose tires were stolen, I was very much surprised that the thieves were so confident to do this during the day. When I asked to view the recording, I was told that I couldn't, which made no sense to me since it was my car that was sitting outside in the garage on bricks. On the street, it seemed almost weekly that cars were getting broken into, as evidence by the broken windows and shards of glass. The hallways were no longer as clean as they used to be and were always littered with empty target carts. I saw one that was parked outside of the inner 4th floor elevator for almost a month. Another location where they loved to park these carts was outside the garage door and the external doors on both sides of the building. One note on amenities - I loved their gym and used it almost daily. I wanted to incorporate swimming into my fitness routine but the lap pool was always covered with leaves and bugs so I ended up purchasing my own pool net to clean the pool for my use. Lastly, there was dog poop found in the most random places. The one that I remember vividly is the pile that was on the 4th floor landing. It took about a week for it to be "cleaned" but even then it just looked scraped off. The community was exceedingly beautiful and I was happy to live there from 2019-2023, but towards the end, with the lack of cleanliness and decrease in safety, I knew it was time for me to leave.

My $600 bike was stolen--while locked--from the bike rack inside a locked parking garage that supposedly has 24-hour security. I've asked multiple times for the security footage and have been completely ignored. They won't show it to me and they've done nothing to make it right. Instead, they spent thousands of dollars installing a cage around the bike racks after my bike was stolen, clearly acknowledging there's a problem--but they've never offered to compensate me or even acknowledge that my bike being stolen matters. On top of that, my unit used to be the show unit, so random people constantly steal my assigned parking spot. I've been understanding and haven't towed anyone, but when I park in a different spot that doesn't block anyone, they threaten to ticket me. Meanwhile, I've had five Amazon packages stolen, and after six months I still don't have access to an Amazon locker. It seems like they only enforce rules when it's convenient for them, not when it comes to actually protecting residents or their property. If I'm paying premium rent, I expect more than silence and inaction when my things are stolen inside what's supposed to be a secure facility. I didn't move here to worry about everything I own getting stolen while management shrugs.

Tires and other parts are also stolen off of vehicles in the parking garage. There is one security person, and there have been 3-4 different ones, and they all just spend the night on their cell phones, not paying attention to anything going on! Many of these thefts could've been prevented if they were doing their job! The building always stinks of marijuana, cigarette smoke, garbage, dog urine and excrement!! The cleaning staff just spray very potent fragrances around the hallways and elevators that sting your nose and eyes just to give the "appearance" that it smells clean when it's really not! I've caught them many times just spraying aerosol crap into the air! On top of that, many complaints are not taken seriously or dealt with. They tell you they handled an issue or spoke to another tenant about something when they never actually did. The building is old and the walls, floors and ceilings are thin and not insulated, so you hear every noise from the tenants on either side of you or above or below, especially washing machines and dryers that are ancient, along with other outdated filthy appliances. I had to buy my own showerhead because they had a cheap plastic piece of crap showerhead that water just trickled out of. The dishwasher is so old and so loud that you have to turn the volume up to the highest it can go on your TV or music in order to hear it or turn it on when you know you're going to be out for an hour or so so you don't have to listen to it. No matter where you live in the building, you can also hear vehicles going in and out of the parking garage at all hours of the day and night. Outside on the grounds of the apartment, there is garbage everywhere! I've never seen so much litter in my life, not even in New York City! There are also many homeless people living just around the corner under the highway (I-10). Some of them are harmless, but others are violent and carry knives and try to approach you if you're walking ,even with other people around! Not safe! High crime!! Filthy!!! Noisy!!!! Renting here was the biggest mistake of my life! Don't you make the same mistake!!!
