I'm not ultra familiar with many rehabs so don't have much to compare it with but my grandma had to go here for support following her surgery. The place looked clean and there was a receptionist up front that monitors visitors in and out. The rooms were fairly large with a window view of the gardens. Food quality looked subpar to hospital food and the staff responsive times were slow. We wished there were more interpretive services as well for those with limited English speaking skills to make my grandma feel more comfortable. She stayed the max number of days per insurance and was able to transition home so for that I'm very grateful. read more

First. The Nurses, Physicians, Nurses' Assistants, and Physical/Occupational Therapy people are wonderful! They are caring and dedicated individuals. Shout out to Paul, Melea, Fiorella, Michelle, and Mikkias in PT. This one star review is directed to the unbelievable poor quality of the food. If you like little packets of mayonaise, relish, and ketchup that contain 2 mysterious preservatives and high fructose corn syrup, this is the place for you. At least, they are nearly impossible to open. It's best to avoid them and learn to endure bland food. Do you like plain Greek Yogurt? Ask for it. Good luck! Day after day, you'll get loaded-with-sugar flavored YAMI Yogurt. Do you want poached eggs? You'll receive eggs that are either hard boiled or barely cooked. Oh yay! Fish and Chips is on the menu. It's mostly breading with a tiny piece of some mystery fish buried inside. The "chips" are under-baked soggy frozen fries. Don't bother with the poison ketchup packets. Grilled Cheese Sandwich? Yummoh! You'll receive a soggy sandwich with one thin slice of processed cheese...a sad sandwich that was never near a grill. Remember when you were in Elementary School and they foisted something named a Sloppy Joe on you...and you gagged just looking at it? You'll get another opportunity to refuse one at Richmond Beach Rehab. Chicken Caeser Salad is on the menu tonight. Yay! You'll receive a plate of wilted, and black around the edges, lettuce...topped with cubes of cubes of bland chicken breast from a can. That's it...except for the little container of loaded-with-high fructose corn syrup Italian Dressing. Your first Caesar Salad without croutons, Parmesan, nor Caesar Salad dressing. "Way to go, Chef!" It's not even close to a Caesar Salad. Are you a vegetarian? Your single choice for each day of the week is going to be the exact same dish. I'm not kidding! For example, you get to enjoy Eggplant Parmesan everyday. A dream come true, right! It's an under-baked eggplant cut in half with some plain tomato sauce (not Marinara) smeared on top and a miniscule sprinkling of Parmesan. That is NOT how Eggplant Parmesan is made...and who would want it everyday? No one! Blatant discrimination against Vegetarians! One evening, in desparation, I ordered a tuna fish sandwich with toasted whole wheat bread...with their lettuce, tomato, and swiss cheese additions. Who could botch that? I received a toasted tuna sandwich on white bread!?! They fried the whole sandwich. It was hot tuna!. No tomato, no lettuce, no cheese, etc. Unbelievable! If you want toast for breakfast, you'll be delighted with your single piece of almost toasted bread. They will offer you "butter". It's emulsified soybean oil. Not butter. The jam is one flavor of unsweetened (strawberry) Smucker's in a packet with who-knows-what for sweetener? A taco? You'll receive a folded soggy tortilla with their canned cubed chicken inside, a pile of black beans, and a pile corn. That is what passes for a taco. No seasoning. Ask for salsa and the response is..."We don't have it.". (They have never heard of it!) You can have something called "Taco Sauce" in a packet with the requisite high fructose corn syrup and the 2 preservatives. However, you must know to ask for it by the "Taco Sauce" code name. I was there for 3 long weeks and lost 14 pounds. My cousin ordered Kate's Farm protein drinks and Aloha protein bars from Amazon...or, I would have starved. When I was finally released, I was so iron deficient, I had to call 911 and go to the Emergency Room at Swedish Edmonds. I was seriously anemic! At Swedish Edmonds ER, I received 3 blood transfusions. The "food" at Richmond Beach Rehab is criminal!!! The people administering the facility only care about their little rules, the numbers, and getting a pat on the back for coming in under budget. The excuses they give are worn-out clichés like..."We're doing the best we can with what we have". That means absoluetly NOTHING! Here's an idea...OWN THE PROBLEMS AND FIX THEM!!! read more

I was a patient for two weeks. I had been In several rehabs and this by far the best. Patient rooms are large, individual headsets are available so sound from TV doesn't disturb roommate. The staff are caring. They get to know you and your routine and that made me feel "part of the team." DR and nurses monitored labs and provided planning guidance for discharge. I highly recommend this facility. My assisted living manager was also impressed and wants other residents to be aware if they need that level of care. read more

Growing up, our phone number was the exact same digits (numbers) with two digits in a different order than the Richmond Beach Rehab phone number. This meant we would get people calling for the rehab center who for the most part were understanding in that they had reached someone else. Sometimes it would take them a couple times to stop calling us and get the rehab center instead. It is located about a third of the mile from the house, so we were also familiar with it in person as a fixture of our neighborhood. About a decade ago, my grandma needed rehabilitation from an ailment and we put her here in part due to its proximity to the house. Visiting her was very convenient and she did not ever really complain about the facility. Workers were professional, perhaps to such an extent my mom interpreted them as a bit abrupt. My grandmother recovered from her ailment and was out relatively quickly. More recently, when the blackberries are trimmed back in the canal/ditch by the parking lot, ducks have been known to raise babies here. One of my positive experiences when I moved back to the area in 2019/2020 was walking over and seeing the ducks. Since then I have interacted with various employees, patients, and wildlife at the facility when out on my walks, runs, and walk/runs and find friendly souls on the whole. read more

My husband was sent to Richmond Beach Rehab after 2 weeks in the hospital and was there for 3 weeks. He has been hospitalized 6 times in the last year. I had hoped that they would exercise him well and train him with exercises he could do at home. They left him in bed much too much. Every time I came to visit, he was lying in bed with a diaper. He had more exercise in the hospital and sat up for part of the day there as well. They were phobic about his falling and would not let him go to the toilet or walk by himself; finally, he just did so without calling them. He actually went downhill from his condition at hospital release. In addition, he caught the flu there and was very sick for a week after he got home. I cannot recommend this facility. It is a nursing him primarily, not a rehab. read more

Earlier this year I was at Richmond Beach Rehab for over 1 month. Since then I stayed at another facility so I have some comparative information. I rate this facility, average. The room was okay. Response to my call button was not very good; sometimes I waited for nearly 1 hour. The food was okay. I understand institutional cooking is difficult but I think the food could have been better, and hotter. Most of the nurses and CNAs were very good, with some being exceptional. My suspicion is the ratio of Nurses and CNAs to patients does not favor the patients. This place is understaffed, in my opinion. This leads me to the management. They were not impressive at all. In many cases when I asked questions, or my wife did, the responses were curt, sarcastic and condescending. The people I had for PT and OT were outstanding. I gave the 3 star rating because, unfortunately, I don't think this place is significantly better or worse than other places. read more

My grandma is there right now, and she needs her diaper changed and whenever we request a change, they come after an hour, and they take just a minute or two to clean her, and some staff say they have shoulder problems just so they don't have to clean her well, and when we ask for help they complain that they are busy and have a lot of rooms but don't bother to give my grandma the adequate care that she needs. But we do appreciate the physical therapist, Mike as he is the only one who has taken time to help her well. read more

It is imperative we treat our vulnerable population with respect and kindness, yet this is not what I have observed. The CNA staff there needs significant improvement on their behavior. I witnessed rude, condescending, and disrespect by the worker that delivered the food and observed some of the CNAs treat patients with disrespect. Congruency involves ensuring body language matches words, and I observed the opposite of this. Congruency is how we convey trust with our vulnerable population and helps to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. Perhaps get a different job where you are not allowed to victimize people! read more

I spent 2 weeks at Richmond Beach Rehab and received excellent care from everyone, from nurses and CNAs to PT/OT to clerical staff and everyone else. Kind, caring, compassionate, and always very professional. Whenever I was walking in the hallway for my PT, everyone I passed was cheering me on. They all really wanted me to recover and be able to go home safely. If I'm in the position to need rehab care again, I will definitely go back there. read more

A couple of weeks ago, my mom had a stroke. She spent a few days at Swedish Edmonds, and then was moved to this facility. Her Dr. assured us that it was a nice place, but I was skeptical. When I came to visit her, I was absolutely amazed at how beautiful and clean the center is. It feels more like a nice hotel than a rehab center. Her room was bright and sunny with a bay window! The staff is so friendly and very welcoming to the guests that visit. They have a resident kitty cat named Emily, and guests can bring the family dog for a visit, too. My mom has made great improvements since her stroke, and I believe it's because of the encouraging and friendly physical and occupational therapists. We went from being scared about what the future held for my mom to being so encouraged by the progress she's making. The food, atmosphere and activities are top-notch. In addition the patients are treated like they are family instead of a job. This facility is like a beacon of light when bad things like this happen. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

As someone with high expectations, and who is highly engaged with the care of my mother, I was 100% satisfied -- and grateful! -- for all the compassionate, professional care shown my mother over the last two weeks. She came in pretty low and dispirited, and very much in need of rehab. She states that the therapists re-acquainted her with the word "try", and she therefore feels stronger and ready to move on. She and I both credit her recovery to their persistence and expertise. I heartily endorse the team of people who looked after my mother -- all the way up to the business office even. Every person I encountered at Richmond Beach was stellar, and had my mom's best interests at heart. And all in the middle of a pandemic. (But okay, the food ain't so hot.) read more

Service was lousy, couldn't find a bed pan on my first day. i was in a cast.. no shower for over 1 week. no one answered my light- call light... they were standing around the counter wondering why i was screaming all the time. they prescirbed the wrong medication which made me loopy. i could go on and on and on! read more

As the spokes person for Bridget Byrnes Care while she was at Richmond I can only say Bravo!! We are so impressed with this facility and the care she received ! She was with them about 2 years and they took care of her diabetes and the damage it had done to her system. In addition to her illness she was blind and they showed great sensitivity and understanding for the additional difficulty that inflicted. True hero's they gave her the gift of seeing her and for someone in a rehab facility long term that is everything! They are Angels and professionals! We will always remember them. read more

I spent a week at Richmond Beach Rehab following knee surgery. It is a beautiful facility with an outstanding caring staff from the janitor to the medical personnel that brought me much joy into my life during my recovery. It is also the cleanest rehab facility I have ever been in. I used to work as a CNA so I am quite particular. read more

Our mother has had 5 separate stays here. One stay was for 110 days due to a spinal infection. She has always had the best care here. The staff are all kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She has never had a problem with her caregivers, she only has praise for all of them. My own observations, I agree with her. All the aids are very professional and compassionate. I have never seen or heard anyone speaking or acting inappropriately. They are always working to keep her busy with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, activities, games, arts and crafts. The only complaint she has ever had is about the food. Pretty bland, and little variations. However they have a dining room, and when she is well enough to make it there, the food is tremendously better than the food they bring to the room. read more

I have personally stayed here after two total knee replacements and was so satisfied that I had my very elderly father go here after his knee replacement. Their physical therapy and occupational therapy staff are excellent beyond description. Your recovery is set up on the fast track afterwards. The care team is exceptional, including: speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, and nursing. read more

Great facility while you are there but zero support after you've gone. My mom was there recuperating from a broken neck and they did a lovely job taking care of her, but after she got home she got very anxious and depressed and I wanted to get her a therapist. I spoke to numerous staff while she was at Richmond beach rehab, and they all said that there would be resources for her if needed if this occurred. I've now called five times and I've spoken to one person, who said there actually are no resources that can provide counseling support nor do they even have references. I was pretty shocked and said I knew that wasn't true, I had seen the list of referrals they had shown me, and asked for someone to follow up. They never did. It's really shocking to be exposed to the lack of care that is provided to the elderly and how much you have to fight and advocate on their behalf. And even the people who are supposed to support them aren't really interested if you're not paying them money. It's so disappointing after an initial really positive experience. read more

My Mothers not so Amazing Richmond Beach Rehabilitation experience. Getting the call that my 91-year-old mother had fallen and had fractured her hip was one of the worst Christmas presents I have ever received. Following a successful hip replacement and 4-day hospital stay. She was transferred to Richmond Beach Rehabilitation center in Shoreline Washington. She chose this facility because it was close to her home, church and community. What a mistake that was. I gladly would have paid cab/uber fare for any neighbor, parishioner or friend to come visit her at a proper rehabilitation facility had I know what lay ahead. To begin with she was housed or stored in a single room, made into a double room (shared sink!) and that is not all she shared. Praise be for a drape. As the room was on the fringe of the memory care, she shared a great deal of things with the unfortunates' that have no clue as to wait is happening. Medicare use to pay for 99 days of recovery for this type of event. Now it is up to the Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) to be the gate keeper of our governments trusted funds of Medicare. When a patient has plateaued to a level in PT, OT estimation they are either discharged or can continue to stay as a skilled nursing patient for $450 a day this is per the social service director at RBR. Between day 1 and 5 my mother adjusted to her new climbs and tried to become a model patient because her goal was to return home,living alone and independent as ever. She began recording her progress in how many feet she would walk each day in the hallway. I remember how proud she was with the 310-foot accomplishment. Mind you these were very guarded steps with gait belt, walker and therapist in tow with a wheelchair at the ready No independent walking. No independent transfer from bed to walker, chair or commode. She was miles away from returning home. Then the cough came. Between day 6 and discharge (i.e. day 25) my mothers cough continued to progress until at one point she was barely able to catch her breath and after asking repeatedly for help, like maybe a cough drop, labs and chest x-ray were ordered by the provider. And the walking stopped. And the dizziness set in. No ambulating from a wheelchair or continuation of therapy as she was constantly dizzy. But I digress, On the 20th day her care conference was convened. It was determined that she had plateaued and was not eligible for her Medicare benefits after 3 days. Thank God it snowed. This bought me another whole day to find an assisted living environment that would meet her needs. There was no way she could safely go back to independent living at home. Praise be to Laurel Cove in Shoreline Washington there I found a clean, wholesome, affordable and available rooms, with excellent food. That is where she was going to go or at least I thought. On the eleventh hour and 50 minutes to be exact. The provider came in to tell us "your mother has an elevated white blood cell count and lung markings on the x-ray suggested infection" and needed a course of antibiotics. This after I just been told from social services director that a wheelchair was being denied to her because she has walked to far post surgery. I asked the physician if the antibiotics were to be IV and he said no she could stay here at RBR and have them PO (by mouth). I told him NO I have made arrangements for transfer and her cabulance was waiting in the lobby. I wanted our discharge instruction and I wanted them ASAP. And 30 minutes later, delayed because the floor RN believed we would not leave, we were gone. Today I am happy to report that my mother is resting comfortably at Laurel Cove with more attention than she has ever received and on the mend from a diagnosis of pneumonia and status post hip fracture. Next year I do not think I will celebrate Christmas. In conclusion would I recommend Richmond Beach Rehabilitation? I think not... read more

We had a terrible recent brief stay there. We couldn't find a nurse manager after 3-3:30 every day and often not our social worker either. The nurses aids seemed to be nice and trying but they were obviously under staffed, the whole place felt like a ghost town and unorganized. A nurse left another patients medication in her room. Luckily my mom didn't take it. We tried to talk to the administer, but she never got back to us. The lady in the social service office near my moms room was very nice and helpful, but she was the only one. The building is pretty, but it is dirty with over following trash cans and no hand soap in the bathrooms .We left and took my mom to another rehab place. Stay away! read more

Since my home of 55 years is less than a mile from RICHMOND BEACH REHAB, it made sense for me to come here after complicated surgery. I have never regretted my decision of two years ago. The medical and physical therapy staff as well as the aids did an outstanding job toward my recovery and healing. Experiencing another hospital stay several months ago, I again appreciated the thoroughly professional care that helped speed my well-being. In spite of sporadic CNA staff shortages, the aids do fine work, keeping us safe and comfortable The facility is super clean, the rooms are pleasant, the windows large, affording a look out to natural greenery. Staff in general live up to the company's mission statement, reading in part, "...to enhance the quality of life for every person we serve." I concur. CHRISTINA R. read more

Richmond beach rehab is beautiful, and clean the nursing staff was pleasant and receptive but the quality of care for my father, compared to other rehab facilities was not at the same standard. My father fell and broke his hip, and had surgery, he also has Alzheimer's. He is a very pleasant Alzheimer's patient who would need an individualized care plan which takes into account the difficulties with his memory. I spoke with staff regarding things which motivate my father more to participate in therapies. We made plans for family to be there during therapy times, and for them to include practical understandable goals like "walking to the table for a snack" as opposed to just walking. We also asked that they allow him time to fully be awake (no first thing in the AM therapies). No matter how many times we asked for these things, and put them in his care plan, his therapy times would be altered at the last minute and we would arrive to find his therapies completed, in progress, cancelled. I found him asleep with staff standing around him chatting. I walked in, brought him a milkshake, and talked to him the whole time, while he woke up and finished his treatments. He fell multiple times every day in this facility. His wheelchair was always locked and he couldn't scoot down the hall,they actually gave his walker to someone else, and the nursing staff and myself did not have anything to ambulate him with, even to the bathroom. The rehab staff was very unhelpful and at sometimes combative. As a nurse for 25 years I waited and went through their training to walk my father only to be assaulted by rehab staff every time I wanted to ambulate him. I would patiently state I had been through their program, but somehow, it was as if they weren't even listening. He got bedsores from being in bed, and his expensive rehabilitation was almost non existent. When I did walk him he improved quickly, but because of the falling they wanted to discharge him 3 weeks post op because he wasn't improving. Luckily we moved him to another facility, his rehab and nursing was top notch. He improved dramatically and only fell one or two times during his whole stay (as opposed to the 1-3 times a day at RBR). His wheelchair was unlocked and this allowed him to scoot all over, as well as having responsive nursing staff and in house rehab staff. My father is now at a memory care facility. He was able to learn how to walk with a walker and could even tell me where he should stand, and how to walk. He needed someone who could work with his individual needs, and he received that at Alderwood. My mother passed away a few months after his hip broke, had we left him at RBR he would have never been able to walk up to her bedside, and lean into her bed and pull her close to him for a final goodbye kiss. My father is an amazing Alzheimer's patient, the facility loves him and walks him daily (CRISTA). They put him next to all the cranky ladies because he is such a gentleman that they love him and he calms them. He needed someone to help him in his time of need and I was astoundingly disappointed in the quality of the rehabilitation at RBR. They do not have their own staff, they contract out - and it shows. The nursing staff was kind, but not as skilled with rehab as Alderwood Rehab, and not as caring. If you need rehab - look somewhere else, especially if there are memory issues involved. read more

My Mother died at Richmond Beach Rehab. I know the elderly frequently die in a nursing facilities, but my complaint is the care the did not provide her. She was the picture of health, had walked for 3-5 hours a day on the Oregon Coast. She had perfect blood pressure, perfect cholesterol, all exams and lab work showed her to be in better health than people half her age. She was 80. She was known at RBR for walking all day long around the facility and for being the most pleasant patient there. She was there because of the onset of dementia. She lived with my husband and me for 5 years before being admitted there. The only medication she took was a thyroid pill. We took her to the doctor every 6 months and she was thriving. One evening she said she was dizzy and having trouble breathing .When we called the physician, he said she should be seen in the ER. Her symptoms could indicate many different things. They kept her to run tests and when the results came back, they said she had no health problems but they diagnosed her dementia as more advanced than we thought. At RBR they would not supervise her eating or fluid intake so she had a new UTI about every 2 weeks. They said she was eating and purging - bulimia - but they would not monitor her. They were casual and evasive in our conversations about her care. Then one evening we received a phone call saying that she was unresponsive and they had called the Aid Car. We live in Shoreline and were 5 minutes away. We left immediately and when we arrived we found the EMT's packing their equipment in the aid car. They said they were sorry, they worked on her for 45 minutes but could not revive her. We went into the room and she was already gone. Wouldn't ANY thoughtful or thinking person call the family immediately after dialing 911? Our children and Grandchildren arrived minutes after us to find her lifeless. It is a heartbreak to lose a beloved family member, but to know she died alone, without her family will linger with me forever. One the the staff members there, an orderly, was particularly fond of her and told us there was no reason for her to die. They didn't understand why it happened. Maybe they could not save her life, but they could have called the family sooner. read more

When my mother-in-law used this facility recently we found them to be very seriously lacking. She had had surgery on her esophagus so food prep and food provision were all important. She needed a clear liquid diet and they kept bringing her solid food--hamburger, scrambled eggs, etc. Do they have any other jello than lime? They were informed over and over that no ice was tolerated and all of her drinks continued to come with ice. She needed assistance to go to the toilet but pressing the call button meant a wait of 45 minutes. It's a good thing that her daughters were able to be there constantly (after these and other faults were uncovered). The attending nurses/administrators said that they had called her doctor but that turned out to be false. This is not the facility to use if you have any choice!!! read more

My step-father was admitted yesterday. He had been at Northwest Hospital for what was supposed to be a 15 minute procedure to repair a screw-up with his catheter that originated at Emerald Hills Rehab up in Lynnwood. They had inserted a tube that was too small for the sole reason that they didn't have the correct one on hand. (for several months I found out later) When he was released he ended up in the emergency room six times because it kept clogging up. He went to Northwest Hospital but complications kept him confined to the hospital for 14 days instead of 15 minutes. Weakened, he needs to rehab again to regain his strength, I did research and then visited Richmond Beach, which had good reviews. In the meantime my step-father had a cracked molar that was supposed to be addressed but because he was in the hospital all we could do was make sure he was given medicine to control the pain. He will have the tooth pulled on Tuesday. Before he left Northwest I talked to the doctor to make sure he had the painkillers to get through the weekend. Because of my work schedule I didn't make it up to Richmond Beach until this afternoon, 24 hours after he was admitted. As I approached his room I heard one of the employees (aid) snarkily say to the male nurse on duty, (who had given me the tour a few days before) "He has a superiority complex." The nurse saw and recognized me and sort of panicked and said, "Well, that's his son." I went on into the room and a older female came in and started rolling her eyes at him and his pain. At this point I called her on it immediately. And I also discovered that he had yet to receive the prescribed medicine--so he was basically tortured by them for the past 24 hours. The original snarky male aide came in and I asked him where his compassion was, and of course he was now falling all over himself apologizing like the toddy he is. They then all tried to recover by getting him his medicine and also numbing his tooth, and generally trying to pretend they were professionals. I will report them first to the administrator on Monday, and then go from there. I will write a follow up. But in this several months process of hospitals and rehabs I have found that Richmond beach is not alone. Sadly this industry will generally be dismissive of an elderly patient and their family, and that they only respond to controlled anger. Especially the nurses. Don't hesitate to get in their face. And do complain to the higher ups. From my experience I would say that you need to make sure your presence is felt there, especially early on. read more

My mother went there directly from Swedish Hospital. I chose it because it looked new, clean, and bright. And it was but that makes no difference if they are understaffed and the care is bad. The head nurse could be very charming and attentive when I was there but it did not follow through to her care. She was very negative. My mother did complain and refuse at times. She did so because she was in pain and she asked that they simply find a way of moving her to a wheelchair that did not involve aides grabbing her around the waist and twisting her into a chair. As soon as she asked for this they quit doing anything. Five weeks laying in bed with a catheter. If she was lucky a shower every 10 days. I moved her three weeks ago to a new facility. The admit nurse said she had never seen anyone come from a skilled care facility in such poor shape. She is now bathed 2x a week and Is pulling herself into a walker and getting into a wheelchair. And she is happy. They have worked with her, removed the catheter, and she can now urinate on her own. This would have not happened there. I honestly think she would have died there. They simply park people. read more

Richmond Beach Rehab took very good care of my 58 year old husband. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor, (Glioblastoma Multiforme IV), and with that came a lot of complications. There came a time when it was necessary for him to go to a place like this, and I'm glad they were there for him (and me). Because of the tumors location, he was unable to speak sentences that made sense, but he understood everything that was going on, and the staff treated him very respectfully and were kind. Many of them went out of their way to say hi and joke around with him even when he wasn't their patient. Debebe and the other head of nursing staff were always available and helpful, and the rest of administration was very caring also, going out of their way to help us with resources for our situation. The only things I wish could be improved upon were 1). The food. It was really bad, unhealthy, and not consistent at all. I brought food from home a lot, because sometimes it was ok, but most of the time it was awful. 2). They kept losing his laundry even though his name was in his clothes. I finally had a sign put up that said family would do his laundry, but they often took it anyway and his pants were often missing. That being said, I would go back, and have a loved one go there too.
