With all of the different Afternoon Tea options in the area we chose the Park Room at the JW Marriott- Grosvenor House. The theme to their tea was Beatrix Potter and having just watched the movie this year we thought it would be a full circle moment. This hotel is very fancy and once you make it to the door you'll find a friendly doorman willing to point you in the right direction. We were seated promptly and as others mentioned, the chairs are a bit awkward in relation to the table. I'm not big on tea so we were happy they had hot chocolate or coffee to choose from. I went with their hot chocolate, but it didn't have the creaminess to the chocolate I prefer. Instead it was a bit watery and giving instant cocoa energy. The food was good, although I never need a prawn sandwich again. Highlight for me was the first ice dish and then the ball of yarn pastry that had the most delectable strawberry filling inside. They lose a star due to their hot chocolate and the service we received. It seemed like tables around us of 4-6 people were given more attentive service. If visiting again we'd probably check another spot out before we felt inclined to come back here. read more

The JW Grosvenor house hosts the park room and it's a five star hotel with a doorman, so prepare yourself for classy. I watched a hostess ask a man to remove his cap because it wasn't in dress code. If I'm being honest the chairs while comfy if I was lounging were not that great for eating. They are like a few inches too short and offered no real way for me to feel close enough to the table and supported at the same time. This high tea rotates themes so check on which theme they are doing when you go. We went for the Beatrix Potter (the author) theme, and the pastry chef honestly was amazing. Each pastry item was beautifully crafted and on theme. The flavor profiles were all different and they were executed flawlessly. The presentation of the egg was exquisite. Personally I didn't like all the pastries, but I'm positive that is personal choice as I'm not a sweets girl, not due to execution on the pastry team's part. The salmon tart at the top of the tea had caviar on it and was one of the best parts of the tea. I could do without the prawn sandwich but each other the others were great. The tea selection isn't huge, very traditional, but enough for every palette and an option for hot chocolate or coffee too if someone in your party doesn't do tea. The one downfall was that we did get a little overlooked for a bit. We were out of drinking water and water for our tea for well over 15 minutes before some was offered to us. When you book you're told it's a seat for 90 min and by no fault of our own we were there for over 2 hours and when the hostess noticed she was very quick to come and ask us to pay. I had this sense that she felt like we had overstayed, but no one had asked if we were finished so it felt a little out of pocket. I will say they were willing to box everything up and did, except the clotted cream and preserves. I would have liked to take home the preserves because eating our leftover scones without those was a bit disappointing. read more

The cheesecake was rich and creamy, had a buttery moist crust, and was enough for the three of us to share. This isan absolutely gorgeous place to enjoy a light meal, dessert, or enjoy a cocktail! Heaven on Earth! My daughter and I had a lovely afternoon tea here. From the moment we set foot in the gorgeous dining area, we felt like royalty. We had the luck that our booking coincided with the first day of the Jubilee dessert specials. Second visit for me, but first time for our friends. The tea was great (although our super-friendly waiter did struggle with getting our tea pots at the right place and never poured mine) and the sandwiches and scones were awesome! I traveled to London with my husband, 4 kids (17, 16, 13, 6) and a family friend. We were looking for a place to have a nice tea on a Sunday afternoon that would also double as a fun place to celebrate our son's 16th birthday. We got there on what seemed to be the early side of tea so the restaurant was not too full when we sat down. The food and tea were very good we really enjoyed everything. Not all of the kids liked all of the options (that would have been a miracle) but there was enough variety that they were able to swap with each other and everyone ended up happy and full. I was honestly worried that we would have enough food for hungry teenage boys, but we didn't even finish everything. The staff was even nice enough to bring a birthday treat and sing for our son. We were a little nervous about going to The Park Room because it seemed fancy and we were nervous that it would be too formal for our 6 year old with some special needs. We really should not have worried. While the atmosphere and the food were lovely, it was without a doubt the efforts of our server, Saiful, that made our experience. He offered information and suggestions without ever once seeming condescending, he was engaging with all of the kids, and he was so incredibly patient with out youngest. Our little guy has unending questions and commentary. Saiful answered questions, chatted with him, and explained to him the proper way to eat some of his items. Having flown from the states and being on an involuntary hunger strike, I give this place 3 stars. Very fancy and seems like they genuinely tried. The jams were sweet and the cream was divine but the sandwiches were just ok. I enjoy the bathroom decor and upkeep. I also liked the presentation of the tarts and other sweets. While I'm not a fan of tea, I went along because my spouse wanted to, and champagne (my fave) was also included. Yay! ATMOSPHERE: The decor reminds me of a Ritz Carlton dining room - classy, soft colors, nice silverware and place settings. We had a nice window table that overlooked the sidewalk & city street and was great for people-watching. The room wasn't crowded at all so it was a very relaxing, quiet setting. AFTERNOON TEA: While I didn't partake in the tea, I loved the champagne that it came with! It only came with 2 glasses so we ordered more. A tiered plate setting of never-ending sandwiches, different pastries, and fruit cup for dessert completed the experience. Everything was fresh and neatly prepared. But that was nothing! Apparently, the ladies at the table next to us had spent a good 4 hours there. From the seemingly endless array of finger sandwiches (which I tried for the first time and loved!) to delightful scones and desserts, it was a tasty way to spend an afternoon. Our daughter gave us a gift of afternoon tea at the Park Room for our anniversary. From the moment we arrived to the time we left the staff were excellent. The menu was detailed with an amazing tea menu. Our waiter Altay was wonderful. The selection of sandwiches, scones and pastries were all delicious. I would love to find a supplier of the tea I selected which surpassed any I have tasted. The entire experience was lovely and the setting is peaceful and elegant. We had a beautiful vegan afternoon tea at the Park Room! It began with our hostess, Valaria, who was very accommodating and friendly. She took our coats and made us feel very comfortable at our table. Our server, Valentina, was equally warm and friendly. Both were very knowledgeable about the menu and the teas. Also, you would never have known that any of the sandwiches, scones or pastries were vegan. They were top notch! I couldn't get enough of the scones and coddled cream! And the jams! My boyfriend and I were staying in the JW Marriott, so we decided to go to the Park Room for afternoon tea. It was our very first tea experience, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we ended up having a memorable time. The Park Room itself is very elegantly decorated and has large windows that look out onto the street, making it very light and also prime for people watching (there was actually a naked bike race during our tea). Despite everyone erupting into peals of laughter when the naked bike race passed by, the tea was very elegant and not stuffy. I am not usually one for tea, but the yellow rose tea was simply fantastic. We also tried the Perrier Jouët Grand Brut champagne and the rosé champagne, and they were definitely worth the price. The food that came with the tea was wonderful. We started off with an amuse bouche of passionfruit soda, which was very refreshing and beautifully presented. Then our server brought a tiered tray of sandwiches, pastries, and scones. There were various types of sandwiches such as cucumber, egg salad, chicken, roast beef, and shrimp. The servers constantly walked around to refill these too. The pastries were very elegant, though my only complaint is that they were hard to cut to divide between the two of us. At the end of the meal, the server kindly offered us two slices of cake to go. We tried the chocolate and the glazed pound cake, and both were very rich and decadent. To be fair we are not tea people. We were staying at the hotel and did not have the energy to leave for dinner. We also were not feeling up to the steakhouse so within the hotel this seemed like the best match. The decor is interesting, quite classical. It is clearly set up for tea or drinks first as you would expect. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our dining experience. For my meal I chose the Park Room Burger. It comes topped with Aberdeen Angus Beef, bacon and cheddar cheese. The burger is good sized. It will fill you up especially since it comes with fries. The flavor was ok for a burger joint. It tasted like a standard hotel burger. Given this location and the cost it should have been significantly better. The fries were ok. I would not recommend this place for dinner. That being said, that is not the point of it anyway. Given the reviews it is clearly good for tea. read more

My first time having high tea, and it instantly became my favorite thing to do in London. I am jealous that there are not places like this in the States. I didn't pay (thanks John :D) but I DID enjoy the tea and food to the full extent. The little finger sandwiches were all great; Prawn sandwiches are one of my new favorite foods. We only ordered 2 kinds of tea but both were delicious and smooth -- I'm sure ALL of them are great. You also get some pastries and scones and fruit preserves with honey. So so so good. The atmosphere is amazing too; in the afternoon the sun shines through the window and casts silhouettes of patrons against the floor; it's something you can't replicate anywhere else. We've had the pleasure of having afternoon teas in different parts of the world: twice in Hong Kong [The Penisula Hotel and Landmark Cafe - both very high end type of afternoon teas] and once in Ireland. The Park Room and Library at the Grosvenor House stands right up there at the top. The teas are exceptional. Piping hot with milk and sugar. There is no other way to enjoy English teas. The scones were out of this world. You get two different types [butter and a fruit one]. The sandwiches were very well made and had great simplicity to them - cucumber, egg, salmon, chicken - they were all amazing. And the best part, you can have seconds. Maybe even thirds. We requested more sandwiches and they were more than willing to throw in more scones, but we were just too full. Atmosphere was great and it was a way to get out of the hustle and bustle of the London sightseeing. To have high tea by the window and look at Hyde Park. Nothing is better. read more

I came here for afternoon tea last fall, and had one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life! I saw a promotion for their Downton Abbey tea online: the first person to make a reservation on a few specific days got the Downton tea for 2 for just £2.25 a person! Seeing as the regular tea costs £34.50, it was more than a steal, and I couldn't believe my luck when I was the first caller. We were seated in in comfy chairs overlooking Hyde Park, with live piano music in the background. The friendly server helped us pick our teas and kept coming back to check if we needed more hot water. The food and drinks were preceded by an amuse bouche of mango and passionfruit salad, wonderfully sweet and light. Then came the 3-tiered tray... traditional tea sandwiches; warm scones and buns wrapped in a cloth napkin, accompanied by clotted cream, honey, lemon curd, and strawberry jam; a plate of desserts including bread pudding, Victoria sponge, Napoleon pie, lemon posset, and an eclair. The sandwiches and scones/buns were freshly made and UNLIMITED. All this for £4.50 total! (Though I would come back for a big big splurge and pay the regular price). The white-gloved staff didn't treat us any less courteously even though we were there for the discount tea. We sat for 2.5 hrs and never felt rushed. It still feels like I dreamed it. read more

From my first experience just sitting to a cup of tea before check-in while business meetings took place around me, to an afternoon tea with my parents, the Park Room and Library met and exceeded our expectations. The staff is incredibly hospitable and quick, while allowing guests the leisure of enjoying their tea or other beverage, in a lovely room setting and with the great view of busy Park Lane, and Hyde Park. Excellent tea service, even under very busy conditions--we never felt rushed. The Anna's Tea was amazing: great selection of varied finger sandwiches (the prawns and mayo were my favorite along with the smoked salmon), the fresh-baked plain or dried fruit scones, and the delectable cakes at the top tier. A retreat from the hustle of crowded London. The room is spacious and grand with the tables set far apart from each other so it feels very private and comfortable. The pianist in the background added to the peaceful setting. Why missing one star? It was the sandwiches, next time I'm going to skip them because they are just not very interesting. Every trip to London must include afternoon tea and the Park Room at the Grosvenor J W Marriott in Mayfair (on Park Lane) is a wonderful place to have high tea, scones and petite sandwiches. They have a prix fixe tea that allows you to sample multiple types of tea, delicious sandwiches and fresh scones with fresh honey and preserves. On top of the fantastic tea and food, the setting is out of a movie. The grand room (with a Grand Piano) overlooks Hyde Park behind an expansive set of curved windows. I love to sit next to the window and gaze out at the park and people watch. Even though the front of the restaurant is glass, it is almost completely soundproof from the cars zooming by on Park Lane. read more

Anna's Afternoon Tea made me feel like royalty, from the beautiful china and linens to the live pianist to the food. Our server asked if we had food allergies or preferences and they made accommodations for us. I had pe'urh tea--and it was very good. The sandwiches were all perfectly flavored and presented. It was hard to stop eating the cream scones, fresh clotted cream, and our choice of jams (mine was rose petal jam). There was no room for the slice of Victoria sponge I chose for my dessert. We were at the restaurant for a good hour and forty five minutes and never felt rushed. I'd highly recommend the Park Room for your London high tea experience. read more

i haven't been here in over a year, but i have to say that i'm a big fan. truthfully, this lovely little establishment deserves a 5 in it's class of 4 michelin stars... allow me 'esplain: service (5): impeccable. i love a hotel where the staff remembers you and your name each time you walk in the door ... whether it was 3 hours ago as you were leaving for dinner, 3 days ago for an emergency visit, or 3 months ago for a quarterly meeting. meals/room service (4): in the exception for afternoon tea, well... it is london... however, i may be spoiled by the food in nyc, singapore, and paris, though, so this vote may be biased. needless to say, i love tea... and they do it so well. quel surprise. the minor lack of quality in room service food/menu was made up for in those who served it in spades. room appointments (4): good size for london even though the appointments were on the conservative, business side. read more
