Updating my review to three stars. After the review I posted below, the spa called me to follow up on my experience. They were open to the feedback and apologized for my experience. I received a back facial from same technician and my experience was much better. She was thorough and attentive. Although during my second visit, she informed me that she applied a lower intensity peel on my back during my first visit. There was no mention of different intensity peel levels or no discussions about it at all before she applied the peel. I was surprised to learn about that. Overall, I appreciated that they seem to be attentive to feedback. They've followed up many times since my second appointment. The consultation was a two minute chat with a nurse who had no interest in taking me through a detailed plan for my issues. The price was very expensive for a back peel and the back peel did not even work. The nurse applied the peel and left the room and forgot about me. The first time I visited was a year ago & I met with nurse Alah, I believe was her name. She was wonderful & did an amazing job. This August, I went again & was told she no longer works there but a nurse named Boris was her replacement. He was very friendly & informative but didn't seem near as confident in his skills as she had been. I think the issue was that I wouldn't buy a package until Id had a session there and could tell whether I liked the place: they're very pushy with the packages. I went for a consult first, told the technician i wasn't interested in a package, and you could see the look on her face becoming very dismissive. I've had laser hair treatment before and I know what to expect, but when I got there for my treatment what I got was "I don't think one session is going to do anything for you", and, to prove it, she barely touched me with the laser. Here is how it all happened: I was extremely happy at this location until I went for my third laser removal. Tech got confused and treated the wrong area on my back, costing me multiple sessions for a larger area I had not planned for. When I complained, they were highly dismissive of the whole situation. Still, they agreed to give me two free sessions as compensation and the last paid session at a different location since they sold their equipment in the middle of my treatments. Yes, they did that. Unfortunately, it was a bait and switch scam since their second location refused to see me and later told me I was no longer welcomed due to a negative review I left for the many issues I had with them. Police threats were also involved if I didn't stop asking for my money back even though I had proof of payment without services rendered. I wanted to do business here. I was looking for stretch mark reduction and laser scar removal and was prepared to pay a couple thousand dollars. BUT actually I'm pissed that they wasted my time. I had an appointment for Friday, at 12:45pm. I bust my ass to get to their Park Slope location. I get lost because I don't know Park Slope and I arrive at 12:48pm. When I arrive I kid you not my phone is ringing because the front desk receptionist is calling me to tell me I'm late?!! (Proof is below). We cannot see you today because you were late and we have a five minute grace period. I show her on my phone that she called me as I opened the door to the establishment at 12:48pm. She say "oh well your appointment was at 12:40pm". I then show her the text below that reads my appointment is 12:45pm. See below. I walk out because i got multiple red flags from this establishment. This place is completely unprofessional and outrageous. The laser hair removal treatment that I received two weeks ago in Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center resulted in burn, that my doctor claimed will heal in at least a month. This is second time it happened during my visit, first time however not so severe, so I decided to return for my last treatment in series of 7 since I purchased it. When I told the practitioner Hasna about my burn on lower leg after the previous visit, she disregarded it and proceeded to do the treatment regardless of me asking not to do it on lower leg, she said it will be fine this time. Right after the treatment, my whole right leg was in pain of burning sensation, to the point that I couldn't walk without limping. I told Hasna about it, but she insisted that this is not a burn and covered it in cream. I couldn't see exactly how it looked like until the day later (since it was covered in cream and instruction is not to shower right after). In the morning I looked at it with the horror because it was all covered with red burn spots. I went to Urgent Care and got diagnosed with burn, and then returned to the Park Slope Laser Aesthetic Center showing them what happened, and a doctors notice. However, they kept insisting that it is not a burn and said they will email their medical assistant, who never saw me but also said it wasn't a burn but "irritation", and would stop in couple of days. I asked for reimbursement due to skin damage, and got dry response from management "we are not giving any money back, it's not our policy". Two weeks later I send photos again to the management showing that this is no irritation and I still have burn marks, no response whatsoever. Neither management nor practitioner took any responsibility for what happened and offered me no resolution for this situation. They never even said they were sorry for this, but acted full of righteousness. I cannot say enough amazing things about my journey at Park Slope Laser! My technician Mariam has been lovely. I first came here in 2017 and I'm always skeptical of trusting anyone with my skin as I am a female of color. As any female of course I was curious in many treatments but my tech actually advised to start with my most major concern which was my stretch marks on my belly. I was pleasantly impressed that I wasn't charged for a consultation, she spent over half hour with me answering every question i had. I am very light skinned but my tech knew exactly how to treat my skin type and other places would constantly confuse me for Caucasian which would've been a major issue receiving laser. Before coming here i used to go to my dermatologist on Park Avenue who had me on prescription creams etc for my stretch marks and none of it was getting better. I completed 8 sessions with Mariam and I couldn't be happier, my self esteem became better and i was able to wear sexier clothing. After covid i upgraded to coolsculpt service on my belly and it's been 1.5 months and it's one of the best investments I have made. I am waiting for my last few sessions of lhr to be finished and after that I will write in detail. I am mostly satisfied with my lhr except the facial hair removal, which has actually caused my hair to look thicker and coarser, which actually happens if the beam is not set accordingly, I felt was not strong enough for me, I hardly felt a zap. So far my facial hair removal sessions were mostly done by Julia and once by Miriam. The first time I saw Miriam was back in 2017, where she tried to upsell saying that getting a full face package would be cheaper than just upper lip and side burns (my major concern areas) so I did purchase the whole package (without a promo). Good results so far! I walked by Park Slope Laser Center dozens of times and one day last summer finally decided to step inside to get some more information about having laser done on my armpits. The place was lovely inside and everyone quite friendly. I signed up for a package of 6 session to get my armpits done and recently completed them after going every 5-6 weeks. The results have been very good. I did have some concern, being African American with darker skin, but I have not had any hyperpigmentation issues. The hair growth has significantly reduced and my underarms are so smooth to the touch! I still have a few more sessions to go to get rid of all the hair, but am now thinking about doing my legs and my chin. I went in for a cool sculpting consultation to see if I wanted to proceed with the procedure. I was hoping to just do the flank area right by the bra line. This is what I told Miriam, the woman who I was having the consultation with. I checked prices and did a lot of research before going in to get an idea. I knew going in that prices vary depending on how many sessions and how many applicators are used. I also knew that what I wanted would be around $750 per applicator, and from doing extensive research I would probably need two applicators, one for each side. That's about $1500. Now I was open-minded and knew it could cost up to $3000-$4000 if I need two sessions. When I met Miriam, she was nice and welcoming. But then she tried to tell me that I would need 10 applicators, 5 for each side going along my entire back. I asked her if it was necessary to do that many and if I could maybe do a few less. She said it was necessary because "if you make one area smaller, everything else looks bigger in comparison". Well, if you go off of that logic then what is the point of cool sculpting in the first place? It is meant to target specific pockets of fat, not a complete body transformation. Now I am a young, healthy woman that weighs about 113 at 5ft 0. I work out and eat well, and I just wanted to get rid of a bit of fat on my back to get a more toned look. There is no way I needed my entire back done. Again I'm pretty thin and small in general. Then I go in and this woman tries to upsell me so much that the price came out to $6900. I thought a maximum of $4000, and that is on the high end according to research and everyone online who has done the same body part with cool sculpting. And she even tried to show me pictures of a client she did cool sculpting of the chin, asking if this is something I'd be interested in. I told her I didn't need it because my face is pretty thin. This place is just trying to scam you out of your money. Know how much things are before going anywhere. And don't let anyone try and sell you on more than you want or think you need. And Mariam actually tried saying she was giving me "Em-sculpting on my abs for free" since I was getting so much done. She tried to phrase it like she is doing me a kindness. Making it like I am getting some sort of deal. It is laughable. I went for a consultation at another place, and after looking at me, the nurse said all I needed were two applicators, one on each side with only one session. $750 per applicator, and it only came out to $1500. I told this nurse about the ordeal with Mariam, and she couldn't believe someone would try and tell me that I needed anything more than what she is doing. I saw Julia who was very sweet, and she gave me "a deal" (why she's just giving me, a random person, a deal for no reason should have made me suspicious in the first place). A week later after i had paid for the two sessions in full ahead of time, i had my first appointment. Julia told me she believed I needed the machine in two areas, so i said, sounds great. She never mentioned to me that those two areas would count as my two sessions and eat the entire $1200-kind of an important detail. I only discovered that today when i went in for my scheduled second session (which I scheduled the day of my FIRST session and nobody bothered to inform me that I would now have to pay for this second session because the technician decided to use the machine in two areas. That is upsetting enough, but there are two other things that bother me here. First, when I came in for my follow up after the first session, I was pressured to leave a yelp review. They offered me a $100 gift certificate for the review, and I was a little bothered by the bribing but you can see why I took the bait. I left a review and said it was posted, but they still made me show them the review so they could read it first. That to me is absolutely insane and I was highly bothered by that. Knowing that the yelp reviews I read to draw me to this business were bought made me immediately wary, even as I was participating. (I'm ashamed to admit it, but there you have if.) Second, the manager (the same person who checked my review), was utterly defensive and condescending to me today, and entirely unhelpful. She blamed a language barrier (Julia speaks perfect English, that is not the issue) as well as me not reading the receipt clearly enough. The receipt says the price is for two applications. One can hardly blame me for not understanding the difference between applications and sessions. She then offered me a free velasculpt session as a consolation prize -- but Julia already had told me that one session of velasculpt is pointless. And then after i left very upset, she called to offer me a discount for another cool sculpting session at $475 per area. No thank you. I already spent $1200 on the expectation that i would be receiving two sessions. Not particularly interested in paying $950 more. The only right answer would have been to offer me the cool sculpting session i was supposed to get today free of charge, since I technically had already actually paid for it. Buyer beware. Julia is very sweet, but it appears she is being pressured by leadership to take advantage of people. The manager has been shady from the beginning.
