I've heard some negative reviews about this barbershop, but my experience there was even worse. First of all, they only accept cash. I mean, seriously? Do they have tax fraud on their hands? The real problem started when I couldn't use the ATM to withdraw cash. I asked the lady, who seemed to be the owner, if I could leave the shop and come back with cash at a bank. Instead of helping me or asking for my ID to keep, she insisted that I leave my two little kids at a busy barbershop if I needed to leave. This experience made my family feel like they prioritized their cash over their customers. It's just not right. This kind of business, where they only accept cash, is definitely a red flag. They're probably involved in tax fraud. And the customer service? It was absolutely terrible. read more

I left this place initially after finding a better barber that I like, but I decided to go back because my barber moved away and when I came back and told the person to trim off about an inch off the top and asked for a 2 on the side, she proceeded to shave off a zero on the side and chopped off almost all of the hairs in the back and leaving no difference in the front. She left my hair completely wet and a bunch of trimmed hairs on my face and neck without semi-cleaning up. I gave her a reference photo for the hair cut I asked for and did not bother to even use it. I left the shop with practically a mohawk. I was right for leaving this place and not coming back. My hair was getting long, and I needed a barber. I did some searching on Yelp only to find barber shops charging no less than a hundred quarters, reasonable to some, especially in these times of inflation; however, there had to be cheaper options I figured. When I saw the featured photo that showed the prices of each type of service, I legit thought that photo was from the pre-pandemic days. So I had to make a phone call to confirm that the price of a men's regular cut was indeed $17. I also asked, while I was at it, if they take appointments or if it was walk-in only. Turns out it was walk-in only. Their Yelp page also showed a $1 off any barber service check-in offer. Even more savings! Whoo hoo! Parkcrest Barbershop is located at the Parkcrest Center, where Los Coyotes and Studebaker meet just south of Carson. The flow of traffic in that triangular intersection looks really odd and confusing, even to those who have been here for years, so please be mindful when in that area for any one driver's absentmindedness could easily lead to a vehicular accident. I was working on Saturday, but got off early enough to try to catch them before they closed at 5 PM. Since they take walk-ins, I wasn't sure how late I could arrive and still be serviced, but I took my chances. The parking lot isn't too spacious, but I didn't have any trouble finding an open spot when I arrived 40 minutes before closing time. At first, I saw a different business titled Parkcrest, and I almost thought that was the barber shop until I saw another barber shop behind me. I was thinking that could have been a different barber shop, but when I saw the price on the window by the front door, that's when I confirmed I was at the right place. As soon as I walked in, I saw a ton of sports memorabilia, mostly depicting LA sports teams, and there was even a football game being played on TV. Four chairs lie on each side of the barber shop, and a handful of barbers were busy cutting other customers' hair. I didn't see anybody in the waiting area on the red bench by the front door, but I also didn't see a barber waiting for a customer initially. I would have been okay with waiting on that red bench, thinking any one of the barbers would have been done soon, but Harry in the far corner waved to me, signaling that he was ready to cut my hair. I sat in the chair with a Clay Matthews fathead right next to me, a bit unsettling considering it almost looked like he was about to bear hug me from the wall lol. When Harry asked me how I'd like my hair cut, I described to him my choice of hairstyle, and he got my drift. Also, I wanted to mention that he was able to tell it was my first time patronizing this business, and he did what he could to make me a satisfied customer! I had my mask on, so as he was cutting my sideburns, he had to temporarily unhook my mask from my earlobe. But I thought he did a great job at cutting my hair, and I didn't feel uncomfortable as I was watching the USFL game on TV. It did feel kind of long at first, but when Harry was done, he handed me a mirror to make sure I was good with my haircut. The sides were significantly shorter, like a buzz cut, but the top was a little longer than I thought. I'm not that nit-picky though, so I let it slide and thanked him for the service. He definitely would have been willing to cut it shorter if I had asked him to, but no need. I was good for now. We went up to the cash register so I could pay, and then I checked in on Yelp, showing him the $1 off any barber service check-in offer on my phone. He was happy enough to honor it, so my fee was only four-squared dollars, which is definitely a much better deal than the five-squared dollars I mentioned at the beginning of the review. If I spent an additional three-squared dollars, I don't know how much better my haircut would have been, if at all. They also offer extra services like beard trims, something that Pythagoras may appreciate if he were living today. By the time I returned to my car, it was 20 minutes before closing time. Not bad! A "woman hair" is $20 and listed under extra service. I really don't know what that means, but if you're a woman and are interested in finding out, please give them a call! There is also a $2 discount for seniors and active military, neither of which I am, so it's very possible that if you belong to either group and have the Yelp app on your phone, you could get a haircut for as cheap as $14! Competitive prices and a competent barber like Harry will certainly bring me back the next time my hair gets long. I just hope not too many people read this review and specifically request him as a barber lol, but I would be more than open to trying a different barber on my next visit :) read more

For nearly a decade. I had Sunny cut my hair. He did a terrific job. At times, I had to wait for several customers. Sunny had loyal clients. Recently, I entered the shop, no Sunny. I was told he was on vacation. It has now been two months, still no Sunny, and no information. I worked with a young lady named Tammy. I must say she did a very nice job. Prior to getting started, I explained what I wanted. She asked a couple of questions for the purpose of clarification. The end result was a pretty nice job. Although this barber shop is Asian owned and all the barbers are Vietnamese, I don't recommend this place if you have thick straight Asian hair. Stopped by at 11:45 am, door closed & locked, ok maybe they're out to lunch. I was recommended to this barbershop and took my 13 year old for a hair cut. My son has wavy to curly hair. I told the guy to cut 1 1/2 all around...he started cutting with a clipper all around not measuring...I asked him to use scissors to make sure to cut evenly...he went over and cut more with clippers...when asked to use scissors again to be even out he said it looks like that because it is curly...my husband asked him to wet it to make sure it's even all around and he said it doesn't need it...it would be the same...hair cut is not even one side is longer than the other...he did not clean around the ears or behind his neck. If you didn't know how to cut wavy to curly hair then say so and I would have waited for someone else...my son hair cut looks like a Chia pet... I'm not sure if I would recommended this place because I've only been here once and it was an emergency hair cut day. It costs me $20 plus tip(CASH ONLY) for a shaved head. REALLY?? She took only about 15 minutes or less on me. My regular go to barber left the normal location on south street and cherry ave. It would only cost me $10 (CASH ONLY) to shave my head and she takes good care of me. I usually give her a good tip for taking good care of me. She takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on how busy she is, to clean up all around my head even if it's just a shaved head. Happy hair cut!!!‍ read more

I've been coming here infrequently because I live out-of-state now, but when I'm in town I'm always sure to come here because for the price and location, you can't beat it! My family's home is very close to this place, and as of March 2022, the price for a regular men's hair cut is $17. I usually go when it's less busy, and I've had several different people here cut my hair and I've always been happy with my results. I got my dad to go here once and now he continues to go back as well. I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut today by Tiffany. Extremely sweet and did an EXCELLENT job of cutting my hair. She took a lot of time and detail into perfecting it which I really appreciated. I'll continue to return back here as long as the prices stay relatively affordable compared to other barber shops, and because of the nice people. Went in for a straight razor shave on my face/neck and left with multiple deep cuts and patchy spots they didn't complete in the shave. This was my first "barber shop" shave and it was a complete fail. Terrible feeling of them just trying to get me in and out of the seat. The lady didn't ask one question about pressure or take one minute to look at my facial hair growth direction. This place is a seedy Asian hair salon that is advertising quality barber experience but has ZERO professional experience. DO NOT COME HERE. I'm mad that I actually paid and let them get away with this. I like this place. I've gotten a hair cut from several of the staff there and they all do a decent job. Even when busy there is never a long wait as there are many barbers to help you. Price is very reasonable probably the best I have found recently. I'm comfortable going here. Fast and professional service. Only very minor issue was the street fighter machine in the back had stuck buttons when I tried it but it's free and it adds to the ambiance of the place. I LOVE this place! The price is right and they do great haircuts. They do not always get it right but they are consistently very good. I usually go in with a photo to show them what I want ( I like a low fade with a straight razor at the bottom). They have a fair system of tickets but you can wait for the barber that you want if that's what you prefer. I do not have a preference because they all do a really good job and do not take too much time. The staff is hardworking and friendly. I highly recommend this place. read more

Last time I was there (around mid-December), I noticed the prices of haircuts have gone up. Now they charge $14.00 for a regular haircut (used to be $12.00). I understand the prices went up sometime in August 2019. But, even then, they are still cheaper than most other barber shops in the area. They are now my regular barber shop. :-) On weekdays, parking can be a bit of a challenge due to the other businesses operating in the same shopping center at the same time. read more
