Even though the new waitress was pleasant and accommodating, the food needed more attention as evident by erratic temps, the stuffed haddock was over cooked while the Cole slaw was less than cold and spinach pie was tepid. Parkland is my place to go when I need breakfast food immediately, whether it's a Sunday morning or a Tuesday night. It doesn't stay open very late, so be aware that you can't hit it up for a post-party snack. The service is sometimes great and sometimes terrible - very hit or miss depending on who is working. My usual order is a Greek omelette with hash browns and rye toast, along with a chocolate chip pancake "for the table" and some coffee. My friend discovered that we tend to get more consistently cooked omelettes when we ask for them to be "overcooked." Another fun tip is to order a side of tzatziki sauce to go with the omelette. The fried provolone is perfect when you're in the mood for fried cheese. The tuna melt is usually pretty great. They offer an eggplant parm pasta dish but not a sandwich, so one time I convinced them to put the parm on the sandwich bread and it was amazing. I wish they would just add it to the menu. The salads have been hit or miss. Pies and cakes are usually pretty good. Coffee is also pretty good. Is it the best in the valley? No. Does it meet my emotional needs? Yes. read more

My fiancé and I went here for Thanksgiving dinner. We made reservations and we were really looking forward to it. The food was awful. The chicken and turkey were processed in heavy, tasteless gravy. The vegetables were canned and bland. Also the stuffing was salty and mushy. My fiancé suffered from severe heartburn all night. The desserts looked sickening. Nick's is a pillbox. Parking at the West Side Diner/Colonial Diner is treacherous. The Ham Fam has dipped into mediocrity. At The Parkland there's plenty of space for even big-bellied patrons (there are many), parking spaces abound, and the food--as long as you know what to order--tastes pretty darn good. First off, if you're not ordering scrapple for breakfast, get the hell out of Pennsylvania. This is the land of the hardworking, weather-beaten, resilient Amish people. Do you think they survived this long on dainty slices of ham for breakfast? Hell no! They eat thick slabs of mashed up pig parts mixed with cornmeal! Just as you should! And The Parkland prepares its scrapple perfectly. The quarter-inch-thick rectangles arrive crisp around the edges and slightly soft in the center, a two-textured treat of porky deliciousness. Order your scrapple with sunny-side up eggs and hashbrowns. Apply ketchup liberally. If, for whatever reason, you're not feeling like scrapple, order my two trusty backups: the breakfast quesadilla, which also gives you an excuse to make a Napoleon Dynamite joke, or the gyro omelet, which has been scientifically proven in rigorous, double-blind lab tests to cure even the most vicious, brain-ripping hangovers. And, on second thought, order each with a side of scrapple. You should never not feel like scrapple. read more

We were regulars here, mostly for breakfast. The food and selection is great and moderately priced. The one night we stopped for dinner. My wife ordered chicken and it arrived seriously undercooked. She pointed it out to the waitress who offered to exchange it. Wife declined, no longer hungry. Waitress said she would take it off the bill. Within minutes, the apparent owner of the place arrived at the table explaining how the chicken was not overcooked and went on to complain how he could not serve the chicken to anybody else (duh) and that this was costing him money. Astonished, we paid the bill, left and never returned. In fairness, this was a year ago and I believe there may be new ownership now. I only gave 2 stars instead of one because of the hundreds of fine meals we enjoyed in the past before this unconscionable incident. read more

We made the sad mistake of going here for the Mother's Day Buffet. It was horrible! The food was really very poor quality. The mash potatoes and filling were not made with real mash potatoes. When I made the reservation I asked if they were real and was told they were. They are instant mash potatoes and you can tell by the taste!. The chicken was overcooked and floating in heavy gravy. Disgusting looking. The ham was dried out and had no flavor. The Prime Rib was so raw, it was not edible. They charge $17.95 and had the nerve to add gratuity. The waitress gave us coffee and that was it! We served ourself at the Buffet. That was completely unacceptable. The meal was way over-priced for the quality level of the food. Just keep driving. This place is an utter disaster. Upon walking in you're greeted with the smell of cigarette mixed with appetizing wet carpet, where they try and sell their old holey chairs for $20. The inside is in dire need of an update. Old wallpaper, booths that have old food crumbs in every crevice. I advise you to try and just keep your focus at the table. Looking above you're greeted with water stained ceiling tiles, and a leaky ceiling that has plastic held up with thumb tacks. They attempted patch works in some spots, made no attempt to hide it. Now the food, subpar at best. My food came out cold and had me wondering if it was actually just made. All in all, if you come here, don't look around the more you see can not be unseen. read more

The Parkland Diner recently changed hands, and not for the better. No more wine with dinner; stopped in tonight and the formerly bustling place was empty. It was dark and dingy; I counted 9 ceiling lights burnt out & not replaced, with flies circling the ceiling. Waitress was beyond bad; wait staff was loudly complaining about the place at the wait station. Food quality was erratic, salad greens were brown at edges, had to keep asking for dressings, sides, etc - never did get bread. Was "Mexican Night", but waitress didn't offer us a menu of the night's Mexican specials...only saw it by the door as we were leaving. They would have gotten three stars except they did not advise of an upscale charge. My wife does not like breaded chicken. Their chicken sandwich with buffalo sauce was with breaded chicken. They had a grilled chicken sandwich, which the server said we could have with the buffalo sauce and blue cheese, which were part of the buffalo chicken sandwich. The buffalo sauce was very weak and the blue cheese dressing was terrible. It was just salad dressing with no blue cheese. When we got the bill, we discovered an upscale charge of $1.00 each of the grilled. We complain, but got no response. We will not go back. read more

I love this place. Sometimes the owner will come out and check on the customers to see how everything is. That's a sign of pride in his establishment. They serve fajita platters you could die for. Better than the chain restaurants! Wednesday night is shrimp night. Try the shrimp fajitas. Yummo! I highly recommend this place. And they have a great Thanksgiving Day buffet for reasonable prices. My son & I came for Thanksgiving Buffet. The food was average. But after we were finished with the food, we still had our drinks to finish. Then the owners wife approached us and told us we were there long enough and proceeded to clear off our table and we never got to finish our drinks. Is this how you treat your customers who have been coming there for 30+ years??? I guess they overbooked and were pushing guests out to fill for other guests. Normally very good but today I ordered blueberry pancakes to go after I ate lunch. This evening I opened the box, the pancakes are so over cooked I am throwing them away . I called; the manager said pancakes have been hot for 6 hours so they get brown from cooking so long. Of course, they've been in the refrigerator. I hung up when he argued he couldn't see them so he couldn't say there was something wrong. I gave up. Too bad because the meal I had for lunch was great. Food was good and our service was great. We came in two times in one week and ended up having the same waitress by chance. She was very friendly and attentive to us both times, believe her name was Alaina on the check. First time we came for dinner and it was on their Mexican night, the fajitas were amazing. My husband had the pork chops, they weren't bad but a little dry. The sides were a nice portion. The woman manger came and checked on us which was a nice touch. Second time we came for breakfast on Sunday and were out in their side room, loved the eggs Benedict and omelette was great, would have liked to swap out home fries for fruit at an add on but they don't do that. I attended my friends wife's funeral luncheon at this diner. The reservations were made through the funeral home and they called with an estimate of people who would attend. Everyone knows it's hard to know exactly how many people will go to the luncheon after a funeral service and my friend was told not to worry that he would only have to pay for how many people showed up. As it turned out 15 people out of the 30 estimated showed up. As we were having lunch the owner comes to our table and says in front of all his guests that he has to pay for the entire number of people the funeral home estimated! Everyone at his table were shocked and disturbed the diner owner did this in front of everyone to the grieving widower! The owners actions were completely rude and exhibited greed. I wish I could give a negative rating on this place. I was just there with my family after we had my pop pops funeral and they charged us for 45 people and 18% gratuity. We had AT MOST 30 family members there and it was a self serve with mediocre cold sandwiches so the gratuity should have been in the 8-10 percentile. My now widowed grandmother, who barely had two pennies to rub together, had to pay almost $600 for shotty food and shotty food service. My family and I attended the Easter Sunday buffet. We made a reservation. We arrived a few minutes late and we were seated right away. The server was friendly and efficient. I hadn't been to this venue for many years, until I attended a tribute luncheon to my former high school band director. We met in the private room and everything was top notch - great food, great service and plenty to eat and enjoy. After that, I started coming on a regular basis and always had a pleasant experience and enjoyed the waiters/waitresses. When it came time to choose a venue for my church's annual Choir Banquet, we chose this place - and are VERY happy we did. Our 30 member group was in the private room and had a choice of three entrees - ALL of which looked good. I didn't hear a SINGLE complaint. Kudos to both of the servers we had - esp Michael, who was entertaining - as well as very competent. Beer, wine and a limited selection of mixed drinks helped us choose this venue too. When I get done with this medical diet, I plan to return on a more regular basis. Give it a try! read more

Food is good, but customer service is extremely lacking. Front desk staff are curt and rude on numerous occasions. Constantly seem like it is an inconvenience to place a take out order. Totally messed up my order today- ordered stuffed French toast and got plain French toast instead and didn't realize until I got home. One time I asked the hostess to check and make sure there was jelly in my bag, she rudely replied it's in there and didn't bother to check, when I checked and noticed it was not in there she replied well it should be rather than correct the issue. They were actively complaining about take out orders right before I left which I found rude. Business is business and they should be happy for any business whether it is take out or not. A little smile and happy greeting goes a long way and the staff needs a serious attitude adjustment! read more

Terrible treatment at this diner. Ordered 2 Cinnamon French Toast and got 3 instead. Waitress said I would be only charged for 2. Ate 3 bites and sent it back to kitchen because it had so cloying with too much cinnamon, I couldn't eat it. I requested white toast instead which I received. When the waitress brought the bill, she explained that she had to charge me for the French Toast because I had eaten some of it. Not only was I charged for the French Toast but I was also charged for the white toast. The hostess asked if I was pleased with the meal. I told her what I thought of the charge for the French Toast which I couldn't and didn't eat and the extra charge for the toast. She said she was sorry but there was nothing she could do.
