Pennsylvania Rye Company is a New American restaurant and whiskey bar located on Hamilton Street in Allentown. It's open Wednesday through Saturday from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. My friend and I made our first visit early Friday evening. The service was good, and the food more than lived up to expectations. We started with tender, well-seasoned beef skewers, crispy buffalo wings over blue cheese, and perfectly cooked roasted cauliflower paired with a tasty tzatziki sauce and pickled onion. For my entree, I ordered the maple-glazed short rib. It was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, and came with creamy sweet potato puree and roasted shallots. My friend ordered the rich, deeply flavorful bolognese. Although she received the small plate portion rather than the entree, it wasn't a major issue as we had more than enough food. There are still many items on the menu I'd like to try, and after such a strong first visit, I'll most certainly be back. read more

I want to give this spot a 5 star so bad, nothing wrong with PRC at all I just save that last star for restaurants that are the greatest in my opinion. But, I will be coming back here, and I usually don't like visiting a place I already went to twice but the food here was really good so coming back is a must. We had the Pork shank, Cuban, PRC Burger and chicken for the kids and yes I tried everything and yes all was delicious. Highly recommend this spot and yes its good for kids too, no kid menu but my kids liked it so idk bring the kids along if you want. Price wise was good as well. Exceptional as always. Denise took care of us, as well as the bartender, in their cool yet warm, modern establishment. The food is always exceptional. In a nutshell, the chef caters to flavor, and balanced flavor at that, which makes each dish phenomenal. I had the grilled octopus appetizer and it is the best octopus I have had since 1989. That is no lie. Their shell and cheese, small beet salad, hummus, and fall risotto special are equally fantastic in their own right. Enjoy the food, drinks, and quiet atmosphere. The good: nice place, good ambiance, great staff (our waiter, in particular, was terrific), great drink options. My husband loved his flight of bourbon. The bad: the food, which is a major problem, unfortunately. The turkey club was mediocre, with overcooked bacon. The chicken sandwich was just awful - chicken shouldn't be chewy. We didn't stay for dessert. I sincerely suggest you go for the ambiance and the staff and have a few drinks. Maybe even try the desserts. read more

This place is insanely good and so worth a visit. Everything we got from whiskey flights, cocktails, small plates, and entrees were phenomenal. There was not a bad bite to be had. Service was fantastic. We showed up earlier on a Saturday night and they got us seated without a reservation, but as we left the place was very busy. So if you can, I'd recommend a reservation but don't let it stop you from dropping in if you don't. read more

I stopped there after a jazz performance at the Miller Hall. The cast iron mushrooms were really tasty - nice touch to put the egg on top. The hummus was good too, topped off by a glass of Cabernet. Decided to come check out this spot while I was visiting Pennsylvania for a wedding. I ultimately ended up just getting one drink. I did not try any of the food as the kitchen was closed by then. I ultimately got a local beer and it was very good. This spot has an almost upscale and classy vibe to it. Definitely think this would be a great date spot. read more

My husband and I ate and drank here before a concert at the PPL center. We went as walk in's and were lucky to get a 2-top on the first floor but I recommend reservations if you want a definite seat! Food was fine but underwhelming for the hype- hubby ordered a burger, which was nothing special for an upscale, "scratch made" kitchen.. I had a wedge salad with added grilled chicken. Great place near the Americus Hotel. Service is friendly and warm though the dining room is quite empty compared to the main bar seating (where most people chose to sit). Lighting in the dining room is a little darker but there are plenty of seats and booths. Portions were large and we were told that all food was made to order which was nice. We were recommended the Onion Dip to start, which was tasty and unique, and opted for the burger and Bolognese as our mains. Food came out promptly though the Bolognese was slightly saucy. read more

Had made reservations for a quick dinner and cocktails at PA Rye Co - highly recommend the same and were seated on a wonderful eight person table after being warmly greeted by a very friendly Jesse, who later on also helped us get some excellent wine from the Bottle Co. Our friendly server Kyle ensured that we got everything to our liking and was friendly and polite! We ordered a few cocktails and for food, we got the Roasted Cauliflower ($10), Pesto Arancini ($12), Stroganoff ($18), and Butternut Squash Risotto ($15). Food was absolutely delicious and the Butternut Squash Risotto was the tastiest dish on our table. Service was excellent, and food arrived within 25-minutes of ordering. Noise levels were on the lower end, and the festive decorations definitely helped set the mood! Absolutely phenomenal!!! Love the industrial interior and ambiance. It may look small, but definitely packs a big punch to it. There are additional upstairs and back room accommodations, but we (4) took one of the 4 tables in front next to the bar. The staffs were very attentive and took care of us. Our table of4 became a table of 6! Bumped into some friends and we made a party out of it. I personally loved all the china wares, because they were all very unique and it looked like it came out of someone's grandma's kitchen. Loved it! The dishes were even more incredible. Our friends have been here before, so they know it was good stuff. I was recommended with the Bolognese dish and I ordered it! Fellow Yelpers and my friend said it's good, then I believe it's good and it was!! Delish! I should have, though, ordered the half portion. It was way too much food for me, but luckily my boyfriend only had a beet salad (seriously for a big guy, a salad and me a giant plate of Bolognese lol) finished the rest for me. We make a great team. Everybody else enjoyed their Crab Raviolo, Grilled Octopus, more beet salad (must be good!), and pork chop. Would love to come back here again, my boyfriend even requested to go again for lunch and dinner, but they were closed on Monday =( AND we don't live here. Poops. This place was awesome! The downstairs area has the bar and some small tables and upstairs is the dining area. Everything is dark wood and gives a great atmosphere of both a classic cocktail bar and classy restaurant. They are a scratch kitchen, so they do everything on the menu in house from butchering the meat to making pasta to making potato chips. Our waiter emphasized it when he explained the menu. He also went over the whiskey menu, explained how their flights work, and how they had some rare whiskeys at the moment. He was not pushy about anything and was able to recommend wine and beer just as much as whiskey. They had a great tap and wine list, which is what our group of five ordered from. The food was excellent! We had Brussel Sprouts, Onion Dip, and Edamame for appetizers. For dinner, we had Bolognese, Salmon, Steak, Short Ribs, and the Cheesesteak. Everything all around was fantastic. We had ample time between appetizers and entrees. We had a birthday cake at home so no desserts at the restaurant, but I did order an espresso, which they use beans roasted in house so another plus! A hidden jewel? We picked Pennsylvania Rye on a whim because it was across the street from our hotel. The decor and atmosphere are elegant but also comfortable, like stepping into your rich uncle's private study. We didn't get to sample any of the drinks (this time), but we did have an incredible meal! The salads are delicious blends of unexpected ingredients (I'm now addicted to pomegranate seeds on my salads). I tried the small plate of fresh linguine with bolognese sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and if it weren't improper to lick the plate, well...Our server was awesome and made fantastic recommendations; we would have happily hung out with her all night! We were greeted on the way in and wished a good night on our way out. It was a great experience from beginning to end, and I look forward to going back and sampling more dishes and the whisky! read more

This really is one of the best spots in the Lehigh Valley. Pennsylvania Rye renews my faith in the LV restaurant scene. Brunch here is one of the best I've had outside of the city. Jesse and Dan seem to know their market as the industrial-chic vibe is trendy, the tapas menu is forward-thinking, and good regional beers are on tap. Looking similar to the beloved and missed "Grain" of yesteryear, Pennsylvania Rye Company wants to offer you the late-night downtown community until early in the morning. 1,000 more higher-end apartments are going into downtown and PA Rye is certainly looking to be the local Cheers where everybody knows your name. If you're into fresh small plates- you'll find a 6-8 week rotating menu using a lot of local clean ingredients that show their desire to provide thoughtful takes on Mediterranean and American cuisine. Their best offerings though are found in smaller glasses as they boast signature cocktails and one of the largest Whiskey offerings in the Lehigh Valley. I don't know that I'd bring my family reunion here (although their private room might be able to accommodate all your Aunties) but this is the perfect place for friends and budding relationships who need a classy night on the town. read more

First time here and it was wonderful. Loved the ambiance, the staff was lovely and the food was delicious. Started with the edamame which was a huge portion. Then had half beet salad which was wonderful and I love that there's an option for a smaller portion. Then had the salmon with the spring pea risotto. I asked for it medium and it was executed to perfection. Seasoned just right. I usually just eat half my meal and take the other half home but this time I ate every last bite. It was fantastic! Loved this place. We arrived after the rush and for a while were the only two in the back dining room. But loved the decor and the feel of the place. We started with cauliflower appetizer and the hummus. Both made in house and very tasty. We followed that up with the octopus which was amazing. The chorizo and potato's plus the romesco were a great combo. I saw some other negative comment but we couldn't have been happier. Then, we split the salmon which was perfectly cooked with a delicious crispy skin and paired really well with the beets and the sauce. For dessert, we split the mango champagne cheese cake which was wonderful. Our waiter Matt took great care of us as if we were a guest in his home including choosing my wife's perfect rye flight. This is a drink and venue review only. We didn't order any food, though the menu looked amazing. We stopped in after attending the Body Worlds exhibit at the Davinci Science Center. The inside is amazing, very industrial and urban. The owner was at the bar, and we had a great conversation with him as they had only been open for about 4 months. It was early evening on a Thursday, and there was a decent crowd. There was a long bar, and then some cool booths were dining in the back. Upstairs has a loft-type feeling but is great for a private party and has some comfy couches. I ordered wine to start and saw they featured an espresso martini. I'm a sucker for those, and they put a unique spin on it, and I really enjoyed it. The people were so friendly, and I'm looking forward to returning and trying the food. read more

If you're looking to escape for an hour or two, this is the place. There's a nostalgic vibe for curb appeal harkening back to early 1900's which envelops you further upon entering. Beautiful brick exposed walls, hardwood floors, welcoming bar with glass shelves beckoning with bottles of brown elixir. The back room continues the feel with comfortable banquets. The menu is mostly well-prepared, high-end comfort (in a great way) food with a twist or two in the ingredients and subsequent flavor. Cocktails are superb and the brown liquor options are dizzying. Wait staff is ideally friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We were there on last Wednesday of the month so also experienced the expert jazz musicianship and stories of Frank DiBussolo who made the night that much more special.
