We stopped into the Parkview Inn after a long day in Bloomington for some festivities at ISU. I've got to say that the restaurant is really family friendly. The staff is friendly as well and takes good care of their customers. They are very attentive if there isn't a full bar going on. We tried the Lumberjack Burger with an Easy Up Egg and it was delicious. What was also delicious were the loaded cheese fries and the cheese balls. The Kids ate those up and didn't leave any for the rest of us. They also enjoyed the pizza's which looked pretty good too. General coke drinks and water were had and no alcoholic drinks today. I was having the applesauce, it was good, then all of a sudden a bug flew in and decided to take a leap of sweetness into it. Needless to say, that's where my brunch ended. If you're like me and love a good local, hole in the wall kind of joint, then go here! They'll know you're not a regular, but its not big deal. Have cash on hand, wear jeans and you'll be fine. Just walk through the bar like you know where you're going and the restaurant side is around the corner. Breakfast: (3 stars) Bartender Brian from Flingers claims they have the best biscuits and gravy so we had to try. Here's what we've learned: - coffee is pretty standard and you never know what kind of mug you're gonna get. Today is was the Melvin State Bank for me and Kissing Ducks for the hubby. Cream on the table and old style sugar too :-) - Sausage Patties are awesome, definitely pick them instead of the bacon which was overcooked. - Pancakes were basic pancakes. Served with my favorite Mrs. Butterworths - Eggs over medium were perfect! Scrambled eggs were good. - Hashbrowns were done right. - Biscuits and Gravy were good, definitely homemade. GOP still holds that first place trophy though. - Prices are great, we ate a Hungry Man's Breakfast and Daily Double with two coffees for $12.84. Lunch: (4 stars) The philly cheese steak is awesome. Loved it and looks like they have great greasy spoon specials too. I recommend going during the day. Its not shady or scary as of my last visit, but if you're nervious go first during the day and you'll know its good. Since smoking is banned in IL now that's no longer an issue and there is a smokers hut outside. Go to the ATM before you get here though, there is nothing on site. read more

This is a very small-town sort of joint. It was clean and the staff was constantly checking on us. I had the Friday catfish, which was excellent (for catfish; I'm not the world's biggest fan, but it was quite serviceable). Wife said the fish sandwich was good too. Breakfast - very understaffed. 20 minutes to place order, and... 1 hour 25 min MORE to get food! Servers are cheerful and working hard, but were overwhelmed. They had to seat tables too. The manager was acting as the only cook. The food was good, though not hot. The bartender was serving tables - not her normal job - and also busy making many drinks (at breakfast? Yes!) I was in this business for 18 years, and know the struggle well. But the problems here were extreme. Might give them another chance, but will bring some food in as a backup. read more

Don't go out of your way to go be ignored on Wood St. I grew up in the area and it's never been a secret that Parkview caters mostly to their regulars. Seems they really like to keep it that way. If they don't recognize your face, or if you're not a caucasian wearing a MAGA hat, or you don't know the secret password (a friendly please or thank you isn't it apparently) then getting service can be impossible. The story from my visit on a Saturday evening is boring and hard to believe, mostly because the staff was THAT bad (unwelcoming, mostly absent, and blatantly unapologetic for any of it). One of the Absolute WORST dinning experiences I've ever had. Thought it would be nice to take the family out to dinner on a Friday night. WRONG! First it took 20min for a server to even acknowledge us. And when she did she was extremely rude and very short with us. After asking what the evenings specials were we received a serious "eye roll and were told that weren't any (with a "geez" afterward). We eventually ordered our drinks and just dismissed it as a stressful busy night. 15min after receiving our drink Gina came back and impatiently asked if we were ready because "look we're busy. Are you ready?". Again..we blew this off. After ordering and had already been there for almost 40min. We waited another 30min for room temperature/like warm subpar food that you'd expect to find at a gas station or frozen food section of the grocery store. After calmly letting our wonderful server know about our food temperatures and lackluster presentation/quality. She said "Nothing I can do. Want your check?". Needless to say,we will never be back. I wouldn't recommend Parkview Inn to anyone even if they were homeless,starving, and the food was free. No stars from this family. read more

I know they have just reopened and really want Rick to do well, but he may need to rethink some of his staff. Our waitress was all over the place and yes there was a lunch crowd but not packed by any means. It took her 5 min before coming to take our drink order another 10 min to get our drinks. When she realized we had no menus she scrambled around to locate 2. After 20 min she returned to take our order, when asked about the roast beef sandwich she couldn't answer so I said just give me the tenderloin. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the decor was top notch (well done Rick it looks great). People kept filtering in and out as we waited, thank God we have baseball to watch (Cub vs Cards). But we noticed that people who had arrived after us were getting their food and we where almost out of our drinks and no food we were getting a little upset. Food finally arrived after more than a 30 min wait for a burger and tenderloin. Wait when ourvfood came I got the roat beef sandwich which she could answer the question on. I sucked it up and ate it. It was good and the burger was also good my hubby said. We then waited 4 check and my bad I didnt bring my glasses so I just handed her my credit card. After getting home I looked with glasses that we had not even paid for our meal. WTH.....I'm all about paying it forward but not when it wasnt my choice. You get exactly what you would expect here. Right by Miller Park, shady clientele and hygiene. The prices are dirt cheap, but the food also tastes cheap. Appeared to me to be more of a smoking and drinking bar for the unemployed, although the smoking ban may have changed some of that. I've been enjoying the Park View breakfast for years. It is competently prepared diner breakfast offerings, nothing fancy and nothing expensive. The clientele range from farmers to retirees to regular hard working people. You even see the occasional techie in there. Wow. The snobbery on some of these reviews is amazing. This place has small-town style bar food. If you're looking for a simple, home-style meal you'll find it here and it's usually decent. Some dishes are far better than others, so I'd actually rate it 3.5 stars if that was an option on Yelp. They have pretty good burgers, really tasty broasted chicken, and the fish is good too. We've eaten there more than a few times and never left unhappy. The service is always speedy and courteous. It's right by Miller Park Zoo, so the location is convenient if you're headed there. You're not going to get ambiance and you're not going to see people who are in the upper income tiers, but for god's sake, criticism aimed at the look of the regulars shows nothing but baseless classism. If you want a small-town style meal and can get over yourself enough to eat it in the presence of people whose income may not be as big as yours, you should give it a try. read more

This neighborhood bar and grill serves all three meals. So far I have just been there for supper. It is right next to Miller Park and has friendly staff and customers. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable. I had a fish sandwich, my husband had chicken wings, both meals were good, not five stars but good. It was a Friday night and I saw several other customers ordering the fried whole catfish special so it must've been good because the locals seemed to be coming in for it. read more

The friendlest bar in the world! We found this bar several years ago when our friends asked us to meet them there.
