AVOID!!!! This company came with (old) rave reviews from my neighbors. Times have changed, staff has changed. Moths invaded, and I had to clean my 5 year old wool drapes (around 2k). Painful- cleaning wasn't needed- but I had to get rid of the moths. I paid to have them taken down, cleaned, and reinstalled. When reinstalled several panels had a hem missing. Installer apologized and took them back. I was unexpected charged for hemming, based on legal language "if due to age or humidity,..." blah blah. Not my case. New drapes, perfect conditions. I was not advised, just charged- when I challenged over email response was curt and said they weren't charging me for uninstall reinstall (despite the fact the new staff missed the hem failure- never mind cleaning undid the hem). 3 days ago I get a $350 charge for taking down and reinstalling drapes- for their mistake, written language saying I would not be charged, no advance warning of charge. No response to my email. In addition, the hem is not good- drapes are now dragging on the floor and shrinkage of wool fabric has caused this weird pinching on the bottom. The only bright spot was the guy who installed and took down the drapes. He is a superstar, but set to retire.... so I would expect further decline in customer satisfaction. Save your money and go to SK Cleaners across the street. I went here to have drapery dry cleaned. We were called early that the drapery had been damaged in the process, but was not very noticeable. We spent over $1,000 here, and the best they could offer was $35 off both of the damaged drapery, which cost $140 each. I was not aware of how low the discount was until after speaking with them. We were told that because of the age and sun damage it caused the tearing. The one area where the seam is damaged does not even face the window, so saying that was the issue is not true. Since we signed a waiver that they make every customer sign before, we are fully responsible for the damage. I understand, but to give us that small a discount is a joke for the amount of business we gave them. When we received the drapery and installed it again, the damage is very noticeable. Now I have to find somewhere to repair the drapery since they did not even offer to fix it. For the price, this place is a joke! I have gone across the street many times and never had an issue for a fraction of the price. I will never return here and make sure anyone I know never goes as well. Update: Found a place to repair. It is over $700 to repair, and they noted that the drapery did not look very clean either. We are now paying to clean again and repair because this dry cleaner SUCKS! read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Parkway Dry Cleaning.I entrusted them with a designer gown worth $1,600, and it was returned to me with two visible holes and stretched fabric. The damage made the dress unwearable and was especially upsetting given its personal and financial value. When I contacted the company, their seamstress confirmed the fabric damage -- specifically referring to "yarn slippage" -- and explained that stitching the holes would only make them more noticeable. She removed some loose fibers, but the holes remain clearly visible and uncorrected. Although the seamstress mentioned in the email that the yarn slippage is not noticeable and removed loose fibers to hide it, the attached photo clearly shows the damage.When wearing the dress, the fabric stretches slightly in that area, making the spot look like an actual hole. This was not present before cleaning. I'm very disappointed with the result and the handling of the situation. In addition to the holes, the fabric was visibly stretched, and the dress no longer fits me. It feels like it has become at least half a size to a full size larger. This change is obvious and was not present when I dropped off the dress. I had inspected it carefully just days before, and I have photos to prove it was in perfect condition. Despite this, Parkway claimed they followed the care label and suggested the damage could have been caused by a weak area in the fabric or something like a purse strap rubbing against it prior to cleaning. This explanation was completely inappropriate -- the holes are located in areas of the dress where neither a purse nor a belt would make contact. In the end, they offered me a store credit for future cleaning services. However, that does not address the loss of an expensive and personally meaningful gown. A credit is not a meaningful solution when I no longer feel comfortable trusting them with any of my garments. I'm sharing this to caution others -- especially those considering sending valuable or delicate pieces. While the company may claim to follow care labels and procedures, in my experience there was no accountability when something went wrong. I, like many others, had a very disappointing experience recently at Parkway. I brought in a very expensive delicate top and they ruined by not following the cleaning instructions on the label. I thought for sure they would look at the label, but they unfortunately did not. I had it cleaned perfectly before outside of the area, and made a special trip to Parkway based off of their web site. After discovering the damage, I decided I was not comfortable having them try to "fix/redo" it as they had already demonstrated that they pay little attention to detail so I respectfully asked for at least a refund of the substantial cleaning fee. I was told by Joy that they must try and fix it and no refunds of the cleaning fee. When I asked to speak to a management person who maybe could help me (she said she wasn't authorized to help) I was rudely told that I needed to read the policy. With many other cleaners in the area I would avoid this one. Neither the manager or owner had the decency or courtesy to at least speak with me after ruining my top. That speaks volumes to me about their business and practices. They must be overwhelmed with complaints. If it rarely happened, they would be suprised and at least listen to the customer. read more

They got a mystery stain out of very expensive drapery. It's not at all convenient to my home, but for big jobs like drapes, I'm willing to drive the distance. I believe all the cleaning is done in-house, which is something you don't see much of. Everyone I interacted with was very patient, kind, and knowledgeable. The business owner's reply actually made me realize that I forgot to mention they pick up and deliver! I drove the 40 minutes out to them when I dropped off, bc I wanted to show them exactly where the stain was and get their opinion. I definitely took advantage of the delivery service though. I came here for my wedding dress alterations and my experience was below average. The hours are really tricky if you work in-person, I believe the tailor is available between 9am-2pm Monday-Friday by appointment only. This may be normal for wedding dress tailors (not sure), but it added another level of stress that I did not expect. The bustle that was put in was not sufficient for the dress and broke before the wedding. It was an American bustle with one button. Looking back, I should have advocated for something different, but I trusted the tailor and her recommendation. Additionally, one of the bra cups fell out because it was never fully secured in like the other and the beading/3-D flowers on one of my straps had fallen off when I had gotten it back after the final fitting. It sort of seemed like the tailor wanted to just get the work done with instead of caring about the quality. While they did repair both the bustle and cups and my mom was able to repair the strap, the bustle broke again within the first 5 minutes of my wedding reception which was annoying to deal with when I wanted to be enjoying the actual wedding. I came to parkway because of a recommendation, but my experience caused a lot of additional stress during a period of time that tends to already be a little stressful. Between the tricky hours, the quality, and the mixed customer service I could not honestly recommend this business for wedding dress alterations. read more

When I initially chose Parkway Custom Drycleaners for my wedding dress alterations, I did so with a high level of trust. The strong recommendations from friends and the positive online reviews made it seem like the obvious choice. However, it seems that there has been a change in the seamstress, leading to one of the most disappointing alteration experiences I've had - and it was for my wedding dress. In replacing and sewing the straps, instead of adequately attaching them within the fabric, they were hastily tacked on - this might work for a sundress in a pinch, but not a heavy wedding gown - the straps would have come right off! The darts around the chest were sewn incorrectly, coming way too far in, and in doing this, they cut the fabric, making it impossible to fix. This was a significant error that caused irreversible damage to my dress. Additionally, while adding in bra pads, they were sewn upside down, further adding to my dissatisfaction. During the hemming of the dress, the hemline of the dress was sewn very unevenly. When asked if I wanted to make it shorter to even it out, I clearly stated no - that the gown would be too short and off the ground. After promising me they could use extra fabric folded in the hem to even out the hemline, I returned for the final fitting to find the dress a good 2 inches shorter than it should have been. Additionally, the tulle underneath was very POORLY sewn... with wobbly stitching. In response to the dress being too short, they said the steaming must have shrunk the dress.... adding any water, steaming, or pressing would lengthen the fabric, not shorten it! When discussing the bustle, the seamstress seemed at a total loss when I requested a ballroom bustle- instead, sewing on plastic buttons for an American bustle, which does not work with the fabric of the dress. Lastly, I was only given a fraction of the original fabric of my dress back. Needless to say, I had to take the dress to another tailor to REPAIR the dress for the wedding. Outside of the dress's tailoring, the original quotes I was given over the phone were half of what it cost me to clean and alter my dress at Parkway. Furthermore, you must pay upfront, leaving little room for negotiation when the work comes out so very poorly. While at one time, Parkway may have been a wonderful place for tailoring, it is no longer; I will never go back, and I would take alterations pretty much anywhere else. read more

Outdoor Furniture Cushions (Chaise lounge, glider, and two chairs) - Outstanding!! I live in a high-rise condo building in downtown Bethesda. Over the last 15 months, the beautiful furniture on my balcony has been pummeled by wind-blown dirt and grime from nearby construction sites. I was sure that the cushions on my furniture were destroyed and didn't even think about having them cleaned. Instead, I conducted a near-global online search for replacements. My search turned up dry, however, given pandemic-related supply-chain and workforce limitations so, I was back to cleaning. After calling neighborhood cleaners - - none of which could accommodate my request - I was referred to Parkway. Skeptically and reluctantly, I dropped off my filthy cushions at Parkway. Less than one week later, my cushions were delivered to my front door and I was absolutely blown away by the amazing results. If I had not dropped off the cushions myself, I would have sworn that Parkway delivered new ones instead. Truly amazing work. Not one dirt spot to be seen anywhere and the cushions were completely dry (meaning no possibility for mildew). I immediately called the store to compliment the manager and learned that the technician who did the cleaning has been doing this work for 25 years. I highly recommend this service. As a gift to myself for a major birthday I decided I wanted to enjoy the luxury of having my sheets and pillow cases professionally washed and ironed. After reading about Parkway's fabric repair service and their work with vintage items I also sent a moth eaten cashmere hoodie and a yellowed and stained holiday tablecloth. The tablecloth is off white with lace edging and hand embroidered embellishment. It was used by my mother at Christmas when I was a child. I explained what I wanted done, emailed pics, and then hoped for the best. To say I was pleased with the results is an gross understatement. The sheets came back looking like they were ready for royalty -- clean and crisp. The hoodie is once again wearable, the repairs barely noticeable. And the tablecloth! I almost cried when I saw it. All the yellowing was gone as were the stains. It looked brand new, not the 90+ years old I believe it to be. I am totally pleased with the results. My very generous 2.5 star review is now 1 star in response to the unnecessary and misleading response from the owner. First, the bag I brought in was not "significantly soiled." I have live video of the bag on the day that I dropped it off, and I will show it to anyone interested. I also have live video of the same bag in the day it was finally dropped off to me after cleaning. The video evidence speaks for itself. Second, I did not ever say that the risks of cleaning were not explained. I read and signed the standard waiver form required of ALL customers at the time of drop-off, and I make reference to that in my initial review. I did not receive any special or additional disclaimers from the cashier (who was not the owner so I find it difficult to credit the owner's account of what happened), nor was such necessary because -- contrary to what the owner seems to imagine -- my bag was not significantly soiled or damaged when I dropped it off. The bag was simply pink, and so I wanted to get it cleaned (eg, to remove a small pen mark and just general marks of loving and careful use). I took the same risk in dropping off my bag that Saks and Neiman and other high-end retailers take, never once thinking that I would truly receive a ruined bag in return. This entire experience has gone from unsatisfactory to highly unsatisfactory in light of my need to come here and address this response. I highly warn others not to use this establishment, as not only do you risk your item being ruined and then delivered to you late, but then you will victimized yet again for daring to leave an honest review about your experience so that others can make informed choices. read more

My maternal grandmother got married at a young age in 1920. The most beautiful thing she ever owned was her wedding dress. Aunts who had emigrated to America sent her the money to pay for it. For her first born child the dress was turned into a baptismal gown and 5 kids later my grandmother died of TB in 1932. The baptismal gown became the family heirloom and a couple of dozen of the third generation kids, including myself and my brother and sister, were baptised in it and about 25 years ago the fourth generation started appearing. The gown was passed through family to family, cousin to cousin, and everyone was baptised in it. In 1997 it came to Atlanta for Thing 1 and Thing 2. In fact it was brought over by my Auntie Bridget, who was the first baby to be baptised in it in 1921. We have the pictures of that one. Last year the first of of the fifth generation was born and after 11 years in the US it was time for the 87 year old baptismal gown / former wedding dress to go back to Ireland. I can promise you that in all of its 87 years it had never been drycleaned, it is a beautiful garment, intricate lacework, yellowing and coming apart in some places but overall very well preserved. I thought I should get it cleaned before I sent it over and I brought it here. They did an amazing job - it was unrecognizable - restored to all its shining glory. Ther color change was just incredible, I was a bit worried that if they bleached it they would have destroyed the garment, but they assured me that it will still stand the test of time and I hope in about 15 or 20 or 25 years time when I see it again for Thing 1 and Thing 2 and Soccerballgirl's kids it will be looking just as good. read more

I agree with D D's attitude about this place. Parkway's Drycleaning is not what it advertised to be. While this place looks big enough to tackle any cleaning obstacle you throw at them, the quality of their service is questionable. I can't vouch for their cleaning service, but I'm sure they're good if they have regulars coming in. But from my personal experience, the staff was empathetic and lackadaisacal (though friendly), and I had to pry with questions to find out about their wedding dress preservation service. *Bridal tip* If you want a proper wedding dress preservation DO NOT go here. Their definition of preservation is dry cleaning your dress with regular dry cleaning chemicals then stuffing your dress with acid-free tissue paper to maintain shaping and packaging your dress in an acid-free box. This is NOT the proper preservation method. A different cleaning method with multiple washes of gentler cleansers must be run to remove any sort of sugars and acids from your dress, and that takes multiple rinsings and can take a month to finish. Don't be fooled by endorsements by theknot.com and other magazines because this place doesn't provide the service you need. read more

The Washingtonian put this place on one of its Best Lists in 2004 or 2006. Here's the play by play of my experience: I went to have my wedding dress alterted because the Parkway advertises itself as a "wedding dress specialist". Their website emphatically states that appointments are required. When I called to make an appointment the person I spoke with said that I didn't need one and to "just come in whenever." When I came in I had to wait for a short while (10 minutes) while the seamstresses helped another customer. The seamstress that helped me was very nice and efficient. I scheduled my pick up for a Saturday (about 10 days later). I wanted to try on the dress to make sure that everything was correct, but the clerk/cashier tried to discourage me from doing so because he said "we're very skilled and there shouldn't be a problem." I insisted and it turned out that there was a small stain on the dress that hadn't been there before and one of the two alterations I needed had come apart already. The guy apologized and said they would fix the sewing and stain, but that I would have to come back again because there are no alteration people staffed on the weekends! Soo... the next week I came back and the stain was gone and the sewing fixed. The following week, the second of the two alterations (the bustle) came apart about an hour into our wedding reception. Not the end of the world, but the train of my dress just dragged around and got dirty. I didn't go back to them after the wedding to complain or anthing because who cares if the dress fits now, right? I'm not saying they're awful, but my experience wasn't great. My biggest suggestion would be to make sure that you try on whatever you get altered (or inspect anything you get cleaned) and only pick up on a weekday when the tailors are there (so that they can fix probs immediately). **Also, they have two dressing rooms, both with straight pins all over the floors -- be careful!** read more

Ridiculously expensive. And that about sums it up. Their high-end services seem worthwhile, and more reliable and experienced a place than a corner cleaner in other neighborhoods. That said, my wife and I took a suit and dress in before a wedding. We didn't ask for anything special -- just a cleaning, as each piece was due for one. There were no stains or any heavy-duty work required. Just a "tune-up," if you will. Total price: $100. This is work that we paid about $20 for from our Rockville cleaner. I mention them because I didn't notice any difference in the work, aside from a different logo on the hanger. You'd think this place would offer some cheaper options for people who would like to support the closest local cleaning business. Alas, I'll make the longer drive next time, as a difference of $80 isn't worth the convenience. I'm disappointed with the pricing but I'm giving 3 stars because the work was fine. Parkway is incredibly expensive! But, if you have delicate clothing or a stain on valuable piece, this is the place to go. I learned this the hard way after taking multiple cheaper garments there and not asking about prices. That said, I have also used Parkway's tailors and they are amazing! I am short and have a larger bust so that I constantly need things shortened or pinned down. I had a raw silk DVF dress that had fallen apart under the arms. The tailor removed part of the hem and completely repaired the dress. While the tailoring isn't cheap, it is the best in the city (from what I have seen). Outside of the price, the only drawback is that the tailors are only there during the week and only until 3, which means I only see them when I have a day off of work. read more

That's why it costs so much. Let's just say I could have bought a coat on sale at Macy's or at Loehmann's for the price I paid to clean this one coat! We recently moved to the eastern shore of Maryland and the master bedroom (very large windows-about 9' high x 15' wide) had Hunter Douglas Luminettes as a window treatment. Beautiful but expensive to replace. We had problem with the head rail and decided to get them cleaned while we waited for the parts. The repair person recommended this company. We had to deliver and pick up, but they did a beautiful job. There was 7 years of dust and some water staining on the fabric, but they look very nice now. Not inexpensive to clean (anywhere that is certified byHunter Douglas), but they did offer a small discount and everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Thanks especially to Matt and to Carla!
