Firstly, this place is located in a very sketchy and abandoned part of town. Antique shops all over for no reason and parking is a bit confusing. The houses in the block are definitely questionable. BUT once you locate this place and go inside you'll be transported to a beautiful spot with huge smiling faces. The waitress was so dope and adorable. Her energy is all about love and light. I wasn't sure about this place when I first heard of it because the main menu has a lot of "fast food" type dishes which isn't usually my thing, but I had a friend that raved about it and convinced me that it was worth it, so I tried it with her and another friend and actually really enjoyed it. I did not go for the "fast food" but instead for one of the specials, masala meatloaf. The meatloaf itself was really flavourful and had a satisfying texture, and it was served with a delicious mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes with two mini (very cute) "buttermilk" biscuits. Everything tasted great, but it was also a nicely presented and well-thought out dish. Filling portion but not too much. My friends ordered the buffalo mac and cheese and the Korean club, and those looked really good, so I would definitely be interested in trying those if I get the chance to go back. I had an apple cider cupcake for dessert, which was also great - moist with good cider flavour. The atmosphere was also a big part of the good experience we had. I've been dying to try this place since I always see delicious dishes pop up on my Instagram feed....however, I don't want to drive all the way to Binghamton. Luckily, they were at the recent vegan fest in Syracuse so I got a taste finally. My friend and I split a jalapeno popper grilled cheese. Firstly, the sandwich was massive and definitely shareable. The bread was banging- so high quality, I think homemade? It was thick and not soggy. The "cheese" had the consistency of whipped cream cheese, very fluffy. Those peppers packed a kick- this baby was spicy! Absolutely delicious though. As a periodic visitor since the 1960s to the Binghamton area, I have been disappointed by its limited choice of eateries worthy of my patronage as a vegan. While I am a longtime vegan for all the reasons, for the sake of this discussion I am concentrating on the nutritional aspects of veganism. I fondly recall the macrobiotic Belly of the Whale in Johnson City from the 1970s. Though one dish was fish, everything else was vegan. Nowadays, Whole in the Wall offers ample vegan options, but is seldom open. Core Life held promise, but it is more a meat bar than a salad bar, and its poorly trained staff need to be educated about what there is vegan. Grapevine with its few clearly identified and wholesome vegan options is a good choice, except when meat sizzling on its grill fills the dining area with stench and smoke. I remember Clinton St as a slum, but with many of its decaying tenements now demolished it's now just a dump. Cheap rent must have lured PCV to set up shop here. PCV has done a superb job renovating its bright and spacious interior. Its dinnerware is luxurious and food styling outstanding. This is a cheerful place to eat. I've eaten here twice. Two years ago, midweek just past lunch time, I was heartened to see all tables occupied by customers, most enjoying their meals, though some only poking away on their laptops. Last week, the university was on fall break. Bad for business, especially business oriented toward a youthful clientele. Several customers took out their takeout, but during the afternoon my area host and I were the only ones who dined in. So our abundantly friendly and helpful server was able to lavish us with her undivided attention. Lucky for us, but unlucky her in regards to her other tips. Perusing the menu from the house tablet rather than from printed paper is irksome. I travel unplugged, but I adjusted, mostly by viewing its menu on a widescreen monitor the day before. I still have a problem adjusting to what's on the menu itself, mostly mock meats, fried foods, fried mock meats, white flour, and white sugar. PCV's house-made mock meats are devitalized wheat gluten, which is whiter than white flour. I shun both. By perpetuating the myth that meat must occupy the center of the dinnerplate, mock meats make a mockery of veganism. Omnivores who patronize this vegan cafe are taking two steps forwards, one for the planet and one for farm animals. In contrast, vegans who typically eat whole foods but who make an exception for this café's fare are consciously taking one nutritional step backwards. And for veganism as a social reform movement, that is one tremendous step sideways. Mock meats are vegan foods for vegans who wish they weren't. Every time a veg eatery opens, I rejoice, and I rejoice that PCV has remained in business for three years. Yet, I am troubled by its low nutritional standards. I want vegans to be healthy and one pathway to health is by eating whole foods. If Parlor City is merely bowing to the demands of its customers in order to fill its dining area, I am happy for its success. But with wholesome foods scant on its menu, my choices there were limited. Taste is an ephemeral sensation. Nutrition is more enduring, as it provides good health. You want to promote veganism? Make yourself the picture of health. Don't monkey around with your food. Other all-veg eateries, too, serve so much fried foods & mock meats & fried mock meats & white flour & white sugar that you'd suspect they had joined a carnivore conspiracy out to rob vegans of their health. If I return to the area a few years, I will scrutinize its menu in hopes that my lament here might have planted a seed to inspire PCV to shift away from fractured foods and instead to increase its proportion of wholesome foods. That not only will promote the health of its vegan patrons, but will assure my continued if infrequent patronage. read more

Beautiful decor, welcoming hospitality and nothing but vegan food served here. I was very surprised at the ever changing menu. I tried the Mac & Cheese (cheese made from cashews) and was delighted at the tasty flavor. I also had a cup of fresh brewed coffee which was delicious to my taste because I am so picky about coffee. Parlor City is a place you can go to meet with friends over a sweet accompanied by tea or coffee or have yourself and friends some delicious homemade vegan lunch. Parlor City welcomes the sun and clouds has it's nearly surrounded by large windows. Plenty room to move about and not stuffy. We discovered this fully plant-based eatery the day we brought our daughter to campus, and have ordered every time we visited. As SUNY Binghamton's food service was downgraded because of pandemic restrictions, my daughter would often order delivery for a delicious and fulfilling Saturday dinner. The biggest problem with Parlor City is choosing just one item from among all of there enticing, comfort foods. It's tempting to want to try one of everything. The portions are huge. The sandwiches come with a choice of fries or greens, but you can upgrade to mac-n-cheese, or order the latter as an extra side. The cream cheese stuffed garlic bread is a meal in itself, but can be shared with one or two others. The spicy hen (breaded oyster mushroom) sandwich is mountainous. The reuben is extraordinary. It's a cute little place and the staff is super friendly and attentive. Some of the food is on the spicy side for me (curries, chorizo, etc.), but there's a lot that tickles my fancy! My faves are The Gay Agenda and the Cheeseburger Royale GFO (it comes with double patties; I downsize to a single). They do sometimes run out of things, so check the menu ahead of time if there's something you might want them to save for you... The only negative is the hours: W-Sa, during the day W-Th and through dinner F-Sa. I wish they were longer. read more

Just wanted to update and say it is still amazing, and constantly getting better. I've ordered for pickup several times while stuck at home and it never disappoints! Certain portions of their specialty burgers (such as the mushroom Cordon Bleu) are huge to where I had leftovers! I also really appreciate that they started offering GF buns because their GF options were previously limited. I asked them about it on Instagram a few months ago so I'm happy to see that they seem to listen to customer feedback! For those who are particularly environmentally conscious, they use compostable coffee cups and cardboard takeout boxes. I've been enjoying Parlor City Vegan's sandwiches at the farmer's market for some time, so I was excited to stop by their cafe on Clinton Street -- and it did not disappoint! The space itself is beautiful with high ceilings, charming tile, and big windows. And the food is just what I've come to expect: delicious plant-based comfort food. My kiddo and I split the tuna melt (made with chickpeas) and the Prestonian (plant-based ham and cheese with caramelized onions and apple), and got a Big Maxine with loaded fries to go. This is a cute and much needed vegan spot, for when my veg or full on vegan friends and family visit. The food is tasty enough that I'll go out of my way to check it out on my own too, for meat eaters with doubts. I suggest their hot "chicken" sandwich, and if available their mock crunchwrap. Only thing, the service is spotty. Every time I have been there, it has been a long wait to get the order, even in some cases when the order was done ahead of time. But folks there are friendly enough, and it is cute inside so waiting isn't really that painful if you have the time to spare. Amazing, amazing food here at Parlor City Vegan! I was at the end of a 4 day business trip and was looking forward to a really good vegan meal (instead of other dishes made without meat or dairy). I landed on the "Lobster" bisque...smooth, creamy, delicate and packed with flavor. I don't recall the exact name of the "beef" grilled burrito...but it is truly delicious...warm, comforting and full of flavor! Got takeout here for the first time recently. The garlic bread was oddly free of garlic, verging on being sweet, but the bread itself was fluffy and tasty and the cashew "cream cheese" was good. You could've drizzled maple syrup on it and called it dessert, though. I've been following on Instagram since they started at the farmers market a while back. Always delicious, "is this really vegan?!" food. The wings are killer and so are the sandwiches. First time here for dinner, but have often enjoyed getting their lunches at the farmer's market. Tonight I (the family pescatarian) thoroughly enjoyed the "Skeptical Vegan" meal. Creamy with a nice addition of a bit of barbecue sauce. My husband (an omnivore) again enjoyed the "Garbage Burrito" which has been a favorite of his from visits to the farmer's market. Staff were very kind, and food was prepared and served within a very reasonable time. We were pleased for the owners and patrons to see how busy they were tonight!
