I had been to the Downtown Nashville location last year, which I had found magical. I was pleased that Virginia Beach had a location where I could order my wife some gluten free donuts that hit the spot for her. I also enjoyed the peanut butter chocolate and chocolate chocolate donuts for myself. The cold brew was rich and refreshing as I savored my morning treat. Delicious!! Must try if you are in VA Beach. The donut is flaky. Not filled which is perfect to keep the flaky layers of the donut. The toppings were perfect. No soggy donut over here. These are nice fluffy, flaky, and crunchy on the outside doughnuts. They do taste more like a cronut than a traditional donut, but all of the flavors that we tried were really good. We got there at 7 am and realized when we got back to the hotel that they usually have a lemon bar in their rotation but didn't see it there that early. Parlor Doughnuts is a small bright welcoming dine-in shop on Atlantic at 28th with really good donuts and coffee. There is cutely-decorated indoor seating for 11, outdoor patio seating for 24, and backless stools for 5 on the shady porch. They make creative original "layered" donuts, with vegan, gluten-free, and non-keto offerings, and at the start of the day they also have smaller donut "minis". They serve several hot sandwiches, espresso, coffee, black green or herbal tea, still and carbonated soft drinks, hot chocolate, cold or steamed milk. They say hot or iced "kids drinks", too, which i am guessing means smaller sizes. I had bright hot espresso, bold and balanced, which I suppose means they are using fresh beans, freshly roasted, the right grind size, correctly tamped-down, with the right extraction volume and temperature (in my "humble" opinion :-). Perfect!!! Others of us loved the freshly made iced coffee, large enough to walk with some after we ate. My treat was the enormous, rich, sweetly-iced bourbon caramel layered donut, which was as heavenly as that name and flakey like a cronut! We got a couple more sweet gooey fun layered donuts: fruit-forward peach cobbler and blueberry, and a couple of powdered raspberry-filled minis for the road. YumYumYum! And nicely crafted breakfast sandos: a crispy bacon egg & cheese toasty croissant, a sausage biscuit, and two breakfast tacos, one plain one avocado taco. I may be in the minority here, but I was not a fan of these donuts. They look amazing but aren't traditional donuts. They were more like a dense cronut. I loved all the options and had they been on a regular donut, would've been amazing. It was a Saturday morning and service was very slow. Most people had been waiting 30 minutes to an hour. I don't know if that's typical but it could be an inconvenience. One staff member was just in a very bad mood and seemed liked she didn't want to be there. Thankfully someone else came from the back to help us and she was a delight. It's a very small building with a few seats inside and outside so if it's busy, you'll be very close to someone. I have been to Parlor twice now in the last 2 months. It took awhile to find a great doughnut spot in VB; not many places do it well. (I'm from the northeast so, this is like a staple everywhere you go). I came to work here for about an hour both times; the first time was quiet, the second time was absolutely not. (FWIW, I know this shouldn't really be a "work spot", but just giving the deets!). There was an elderly woman checking out in front of me with a cane. She asked the barista/worker for a bag. He said "we don't provide bags". She needed to balance three boxes while handling a cane and only me and another guy waiting for his doughnuts was around. The cashier didn't even offer to help her. So, I did and then proceeded to place my order. It left a bad taste in my mouth. While I know you aren't required to help, you need to find a solution for folks who need a little extra assistance. The attitude of the worker was also just...blah. My second time here was Halloween morning. The service was a little better, but still waited 10 minutes for my cappuccino, which almost got swiped by another customer because we both ordered the same thing. How about calling names so we know the order is ours? Kind of annoying. The noise level was off the charts. Cute kids in costumes, but definitely could only stay an hour, and parents were not correcting them whatsoever (Feel like there should maybe be a policy on rowdy children?) The doughnuts itself are good and I'll be back to try more flavors! But the service needs to have some kinks worked out. read more

Since Parlor Donuts opened, I've wanted to visit, as they look phenomenal. We visited later in the afternoon today, Sunday, while out on a bike ride. The donuts were pretty good, and the specialty lattes were delicious. I tried the cheesecake turtle, and the wife went with the coconut cream. I was expecting filling but enjoyed the unique donut with toppings you'd typically find on a cake donut. I imagine they'd be better if they were a bit fresher. Their branding is fantastic. There are plenty of small tables and outdoor seating. We love supporting small local businesses, so we will revisit them in the morning and update the review. Give them a shot and write a review! For a first visit at this location it was pretty good, but I see room for improvements for this newer business. Parking is on the rear, or in front street free of charge. The exterior looked good. For a Monday morning they were decently busy with customers enjoying their food on the patio. I entered to a short line. I was greeted. The interior seemed somewhat similar to the former business May's Parlor. However, the big departure were the massive cases for doughnuts. I asked for recommendations from the staff and decided on a French toast and a blueberry doughnut. I wanted to also try a breakfast sandwich and got a pesto. I added a cup of house coffee. Checkout was friendly. You can't tip on the machine. I got my two doughnuts boxed and coffee in a for here cup then sat down. The interior has only a few tables and they had food crumbs, I'm sure this is difficult to police and doughnuts are messy. The worse aspect were the army of flies. They kept the door propped open which exacerbated the problem. My sandwich was plated and thank you for that. But was given to me between the coffee machine where there is little room. A delivery to the table makes sense. The coffee tasted good, but did have heavy grind residue. By this time there was a line, so I let it go. The sandwich was as pretty meh for me. I would try something different. The French toast doughnut was pretty good, absolutely fresh! The hero was the blueberry that knocked my socks off. A super positive new experience where we met the new owner, Ben who told us he came from Nashville to open up shop here in the old May's Parlor spot. These doughnuts are huuuggeeeee. Very light and fluffy. Like a cronut kinda and they're being baked fresh all day long. They didn't have any of the food items or cold brew yet so it was basically coffee, lattes and doughnuts but the blueberry hill we tried was delish and he gave us a few of the mini doughnuts to try and the raspberry cream filled and cinnamon sugar were delish as well and come with dipping sauces of your choice. Cute merch inside themed and some awesome King Neptune t-shirts and stickers as well as mugs and hats. I'm always down for some good VaB merch. They added a ton of seating outside and some stools on the porch as well. Came here on a recent trip to Virginia Beach. The shop is small but has a few tables inside and several seating options outside. As soon as I walked in I was impressed with all the donut options. They were beautiful and the shop smells so good. I had a hard time choosing and got the strawberry shortcake donut and my brother got the cookies and cream. Both our donuts were fantastic. The inside seating is small but they did great with making the most with the size they had to work with and there is outdoor seating as well with plenty of shady spots. Located in the old Joys same look a few changes!! Parlor Doughnuts came up on my feed a few times, not to mention there was a write up about the new business. Decided to give it a try got up early in the morning to go down to the oceanfront to give this location. A try the line was a little long nothing too serious though the case was full there was a few empty spots in the case. I was interested in trying some of the flavors. I did not see any of the minis out nor did I see the dog donuts I figured because the minis weren't out they didn't have any so I didn't bother to ask. I did ask about the dog doughnuts only because there was doughnut sitting on the top of the case in a cake dish, and I thought that was the dog doughnut ,that just happened to be a gluten-free or vegan doughnut. I forgot what the gentleman said. I ordered eight doughnuts I probably should've just ordered a whole dozen not realizing how the pricing structure is set up here again. I think the staff could've suggested that to me to explain their pricing structure.goes. I also ordered a cold brew coffee. The doughnuts are different than your typical doughnut they are considered a layered dough nut. It kind of reminds me of a cronut. Some of the doughnuts we're very fresh. The icing on the top is really the only flavoring the doughnut has. so for example they have a doughnut that's supposed to taste like a cinnamon bun. The only cinnamon you get is the icing on the top so the base of the doughnuts are all the same, it's just different frosting. A couple of people that I had sample them said that icing or frosting is very sweet overly sweet felt that the doughnut to frosting ratio was a little off, with the thickness of the doughnut it would've been nice if it had a filling or some additional flavor inside. I would say out of the eight I ordered three of them felt like they were freshly baked and very soft and tasty. The other five felt like they might've been day old. If you're asking if I would go back to try the minis. I would definitely go back. Would I buy more regular doughnuts I'm on the fenceabout that. I will say for a small cold brew coffee, eight donuts, and one dog doughnut $40 is a little pricey that's considered a special treat. Parlor doughnuts is open!!! They had their grand opening today and we stood in line to get a taste. They have about 20+ different flavors and we picked 2 dz doughnuts to try. They are pretty big cronuts. Some are filled and some are just glazed. Their most popular is the French toast. They all looked delicious displayed and it was hard choosing the flavors. The doughnuts are crunchy on the outside and then you get the soft layers as you bite in. Perfect with a cup of coffee and they are addictingly delicious. Upon arrival at around 12:30 the case was completely empty but they were still able to frost donuts to order which was good. I got the churro donut and a mocha latte. It came to $9 and some change. The donut overall was good. A bit chewy and undercooked but good flavor and I liked the varieties offered. The floor was extremely sticky. Everywhere. Not just one spot, it took my sandal off. If you come in when they open expect to wait 20-30mins as they are made to order and there is one person working off season. They also offer a small dining room to sit and enjoy your new found favorite doughnut.
