One of the employees came up and asked if I needed help. I asked a basic question about why some drivers were more expensive than others, and the answer I got was pretty surface-level--basically, "they're newer and have better technology." He offered to let me swing a few, which I did, but then he surprised me by saying, "You might be better off going next door to Roger Dunn Golf Shops." I thought that was weird for one store to be sending me to a competitor... Did I smell? I took his advice, and I'm really glad I did. At Roger Dunn, the experience was on a completely different level. I got fully fitted for clubs using real data--club speed, ball speed, spin rate, trajectory, distance--the whole deal. They had the equipment to actually measure everything and dial in what worked best for my joke of a swing. I was able to try multiple clubs at a variety of prices and compare them side by side in a way and with data that made sense. What really stood out was the time and attention I got. The guy helping me didn't rush, didn't push, and gave genuinely helpful advice the entire time. In a retail world where customer experience often feels like an afterthought, this was the exact opposite. I walked out with a driver that felt right, cost way more than I was intending on spending and more importantly, confidence that I made the right choice. I won't be buying golf stuff anywhere else. I purchased a set of clubs from Steve and started the process in his simulator…read more After evaluating my swing and stance we proceeded to work through what would make sense for me. After trying a few clubs we determined to purchase a driver and a couple of fairway woods. We started discussing irons and Steve suggested that we wait to order those. He sent me to get a few lessons with a great PGA instructor and to work on my stance and swing. He shared with me to come back after those lessons and then we could figure out the "proper clubs" for me once I was able work on re-learning a proper stance. 6 weeks later I returned to the shop and we determined the correct clubs, shafts and hozzle angle to complete my set. When completed, I not only had a new set up clubs but improved my handicap by 8 strokes. Since that time I have moved out of state however I just ordered two additional clubs that Steve will be ordering and have mailed to me 1,800 miles away from the shop. I've never met a more knowledgeable golf fitter that puts his customer's satisfaction as his first priority. You won't go wrong working with Steve at the Newport Beach Golf Shop, I have sent others there and they had a similar experience.

Turns out the club had been placed out of order. The guys in the gripping area were genuinely concerned and calmly freaked out about it. It was actually really nice to see how good these kids are. After a couple visits there I learned why it is so amazing, and it comes down to the two captains at the helm, Dene and Terry. These guys live and breath the customer first mentality. They extremely inviting, informative, and they are transparent on all of their analyses on the products within the store. Their exceptional attitudes emanate to their staff. Sometimes I want to work there just to feel like a part of their family. I've noticed myself hanging around the store more often to watch them in action... maybe I will ask them to golf with me sometime soon. I would really like to be friends with Dene and Terry, they do a great job.
