For my oldest son's birthday, I decided to get him a number balloon and grab some last minute items for his party. I've been to Party City years ago and I was surprised at how nice it was. The store was clean, the staff was friendly and they offered a wide selection of character themed items. The only reason I'm giving four stars is because they were missing some items for the theme I wanted for my son's party. But they are definitely budget friendly! I only spent $30. read more

There is a great selection in this store. There is a lot of variety in colors and themes. But that is part of the problem, there is LOT of stuff in this store and trying to get someone to help you is nearly impossible. And when you do get help, they aren't happy to do so. I couldn't wait that long which is my own fault but when I said I couldn't wait 20 mins she didnt even try to help me or apologize but seemed like she just wanted me to go so she can "help" the next person. Showed up on a Saturday morning at 10am. I casually pre-ordered a bunch of those big, cool letter balloons that read "MARRY ME". Note: they do not carry any sort of punctuation balloons. Anyway, I get outside to my car and the "R" flies away.....but wait.....I had all the strings wrapped securely around my arm..... Well as luck would have it, the guy responsible for putting air into balloons and tying string to each of them did not tie one correctly. So now I have two options: 1. Bring home balloons that read "MARY ME" for my soon to be brother in law. Problem #1: My sister might say no and think he's illiterate. 2. Go back inside and get another "R". Problem #2: He popped all the gold R's about 5 minutes beforehand. I angrily abandoned my little sister at this store in order for them to re-blow up all new silver balloons because they didn't have any more gold R's AS WELL AS EXCHANGE ALL THE ACCESSORIES WE PURCHASED FROM GOLD TO SILVER. So I randomly wanted to go check some stuff out for a potential costume party I was going to on NYE. Why did I do this? I will never know but yeah, it was a last minute party and a last minute outfit and the next thing you know well yeah I am standing in a ridiculous line. I popped in and found that they had a costume area that was at the back of their facility tucked into a niche. However many of their wigs and accessories were on sale or just reduced pricing. So that was a bonus. The bad part was that 90% of the stuff was not located where it was supposed to be. Pro Tip: Be leery about buying things full price here... it just may not be worthwhile... but if you find sales item stuff or are in a hurry, well they likely have what you need. They have all kinds of party supplies here too even USC and ucla stuff, pinatas, candy and really expensive candy, goodie bags and fillers, balloons, etc. I suggest that you make sure that you have time, as they can have some ridiculous lines here, no doubt about it... Rating this party city is very very difficult! My wife totally loves utilizing Party City to get supplies for events/occasions. The difficulty is staff& service vs. inventory. Party City has an awesome inventory (and I never knew this til my wife shared all the cool things that they have at amazing prices compared to a lot of competitors, unless you find it in downtown LA..). On the flip side the service here makes you think - why is this person called an employee? Why is a huge company like Party City paying the person in front of my face when they are treating me like I don't matter... When they should be thinking to themselves - hmmm... If this store doesn't do well... I don't do well. If the store doesn't do well, it might close down and I might lose my job. BUT nope... They think they are getting paid to just be present I am assuming. Here's my experience... Not a horrible experience, cause if it was I would call a manager, possibly even a regional manager to get their act straight. We're getting ideas for our little girls bday... We chose a few items that we may need more quantity than what the store offers. So I stand to the side of the cashier to see if I can grab her attention, but she was either busy or not wanting to look my way, I honestly am not sure. So I stand in line to ask a question. When I got to her (her being a young blonde girl with long long hair... Borderline Repunzel...). I could already tell she hated working there by her face. I asked how I can order more quantity of the item, she said she doesn't know when the store will have more. That unfortunately WASNT my question. Obviously I had to guide the conversation. So I asked if I can order online. She said yes you can. I asked if there is a way I can order without needing to pay shipping, can I have it shipped to the store, any options...? Thankfully she did tell me an option that would save shipping. I looked at her thinking if there is anything else... She looked at me like "what else?" lol. I walked away. Again, not horrible service, but not the friendliest either. Would it make me go somewhere else...? Likely not. Does it make me want to go somewhere else. Yeah. I came here for a birthday sash or button. I walk in, nobody greets me, and I'm not surprised. I'm wandering around the store because party supplies are so cute. 20 minutes in, I'm practically done, sash in hand, a sales associate asks if I needed any help. Um not really! I ordered an inflated balloon bouquet online, picked it up at 6:30pm and the next morning it had completely deflated. The website indicated that the helium included the special "hi float" sealant to make the balloons last longer, which was not the case. No one at the store asked when the party was or seemed to care at all. It is not the customer's job to research balloon mechanics. Worse than the balloons deflating was the complete lack of any response from their customer service. They do not care about their customers at all. Horrendous experience! Upon purchasing tons of party items my total amount seemed way off. Because it was raining I took my items to my car (sans cart, the carts have these annoying metal poles attached to them to keep the carts in store) and went back to check on some prices. Turns out most of my items were mispriced. My refund totaled to $45 and change! Can you believe that? Be sure to double check your receipt and take a mental picture of the prices you see posted per product. They really need to get going on their inventory processing! read more

I used their balloon inflation service and it was not only slow, but my balloons were only inflated halfway. I prefer the balloon station at the location in Alhambra over this place. I was searching for a Star Wars mask that I saw online for $1.99. I couldn't find it or anything like it in the entire store and was preparing to leave when a helpful staff member said that she would go and search for me. It took her 10 minutes to find it but she found the exact mask that I was looking for. Ok, I know you need party supplies -whether it is a last minute halloween costume, or some baby blue plates for your UCLA tailgate party, but under no circumstances come to this store. This Party City branch is quite a mess. The customer service associates act like they have no worries, even though there are 8 people waiting in line. I had to wait for 20 minutes in line to purchase 2 greeting cards. The only one that does work with slightly more speed and sense of urgency is probably the assistant manager because she has the best customer service rapport (ie: saying "thank you so much for waiting" and "I appreciate your patience"). I give the 2nd star for this assistant manager's effort. Besides the checkout process, the rest of the store is a disaster. The main middle section of the store holds all the greeting cards, which is beyond a disaster. It looks like nobody has tried to touch it to try to re-organize and replenish the cards. You can't tell which one are $1 and which ones are part of the BOGO. You can't even go to the section where it says "Her birthday" but instead, find a bunch of "Get Well" and "Congratulations" cards. I hope they revamp this store soon by hiring better leadership to run this store because this Party City is in a great location, and I would hate to see it go down due to poor management. read more

I came here looking for a halloween costume on halloween (silly I know). What I liked about their set up was that all their costumes were on the wall as placards. You would see a costume you like, and an attendent would radio back to have it brought out. Such a great idea! The problem I had with this system was that they didn't really make it clear what they had or didn't have. I waited in line for 5 minutes only to be told they had sold out of the costume I wanted. EXPENSIVE. Before you go, go online and print out the coupons they have on their website. The staff won't mention it to you, so just do it. You can also pull it up on your smart phone and they can scan it from there. Other than that, I needed two pirate costumes in the last minute for a party- pickings were slim, but hey, it's in February, so what was I expecting? Got what I needed and left. I would only come here if I ABSOLUTELY need to. Granted, they do have a lot of party/decoration supplies, but their service is awfully slow. I came during my lunch break to get some balloons and banners for a friend's birthday. It was the middle of the day with a good amount of customers in the store (after Halloween sales, I'm assuming). However, there were sooooo many employees working as well. There were probably 3 employees in the front, but only one cash register opened. After the line got to be 5-6 people long, they finally opened another register. After I paid for my balloons, the sales associate directed me to the side where she said another associate would help me fill them up. I went to the store during my lunch hour to purchase somethings for an upcoming party. I went to the candy isle first. Immediately after I stopped to look at the selection, a young man in a red shirt was there restocking. Said not one word to men I made my selection went towards the front of the store, found another young man asked him to direct me to something else I was looking for. This young man takes me to where I need to be and left. Half a second later, the young man in the red shirt is now "restocking " on that isle. I grab the items and head toward the front. Standing in line, the young man in the red shirt pushes the cart along the line, looks at the manager and shakes his head no. Please know that I was not the only person shopping at this time. I did let the manager know, who had just received confirmation that I didn't steal anything, but she was not interested so of course I didn't buy the items! My mom has lived in Pasadena for the last 27 years and I've shopped at this location previously, however after today's events, I will encourage everyone I know , not to shop at this location. This place is fun to shop out especially if you have out of town folks who live in an area without such a big party store. They pretty much have everything you need to throw a party and they have a great selection for the upcoming holidays. They do have halloween costumes in the back year round. The strange part is I came on a normal Tuesday afternoon and the line was about 15 deep. The service area at the balloon area is a hit or miss at times. Once there was a long line of folks waiting for balloons and this one idiot held the line for almost 20 mins deciding on which balloon. After waiting in line to pay for our items, we were informed that the line wrapped around in the other direction. Another customer, who had not been waiting in line was called to the cashier.
