I had an appointment with Dr. Ivy Lee to get a second opinion on some scalp issues I was having. I had to come as a cash patient since I have an HMO and Pasadena Premier Dermatology didn't take my insurance. That being said, I was taking a risk in getting a second opinion from her since I knew it would be expensive. Dr. Lee was amazing. She was kind, thorough, and informative. She gave me peace of mind and was excellent at explaining things...she even wrote it down. She also provided me with a couple of "medically-legit" websites where I could get further information. I would highly recommend her and it was worth every penny! read more

Stay as far away from this place as possible!!! I struggled with acne for years and tried many different dermatologists but none were helpful. I found Pasadena Premier dermatology online and called and made an appointment. I walked inside hoping to final find a solution for my acne and it wasn't like anything I expected. The place was empty, the doctors were all outside talking. The front desk girl said she couldnt help me because I had medi-cal EVEN THOUGH I WAS PLANNING ON PAYING CASH. CASH. The manager, sitting behind a desk completely avoiding me, then said that they couldn't do anything about it. She didn't have the balls to tell me to my face. Pathetic! No wonder the place was empty! That is not how you are suppose to run a dermatology office. The point of having a dermatology office is to HELP those struggling with acne, you know, WANT for someone have skin problems NOT tell them you can't help them because we are part of a certain insurance. What part of I was going to pay in cash did they not understand!! Spend your in Beverly Hills with professionals, not a small little office in a building in Pasadena. I read good reviews for David A Denenholz, MD. on Yelp. When I called to schedule an appointment with him, I could not get in to see him for over 2 months. So I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Pai in the same office. Dr. Pai did a thorough check of my body and removed and tested a few moles. The bill I received in the mail was expensive, but I guess I had not met my deductible. But the service was good. When I arrived at the office I got in right away. Dr. Pai was friendly, young, and professional. I am going to reschedule my second appointment this week. The office is in a very nice building in a beautiful part of Pasadena. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Pai for a couple years now. He is truly an amazing Dr. He is caring, he remembers your needs, and listens to what you have to say. He lays out all the treatment options very well and gives his recommendations. Valerie the Nurse is also AMAZING. She is literally the cutest thing in the world and so helpful and knowledgeable. I really like the staff. they are very well organized especially for dealing with so many Dr.s in this one office. Most people come to Dr Pai. for Acne and eczema. So if you are suffering from these issues, I HIGHLY recommend his services. Parking, is off of Catalina behind the building. there is no Validation. read more

Despite visiting this Dermatologists office for a genuine health concern. Red bumps on arm and dark stripes on my finger nails. And having my Private Anthem PPO insurance. I'm not sure why that would make a difference but it might. Dr. Pamela Hu neglected to treat me with the level of professionalism I was expecting. While i was going over my health concerns she had the audacity to make me feel rushed by stating that she has other patients and the appointment is only supposed to be 15 min long. I felt stressed and harassed by this behavior. I came to this office to confront the possibility of cancer. She should show empathy for my concerns and not give me the idea that my symptoms were assessed with the possible taint of bias or error. i disagree with the other review and am glad i didn't read it before i went today because i might have been negatively influenced by it. i called the office yesterday to get an appointment with dr. denenholz who had no availability. when the pleasant associate came back and offered me an appointment for today due to a cancellation, i jumped at the chance. i am grateful that i was able to come in so quickly, and better yet, i was pleased with dr. pai's efficient treatment. i am experiencing alopecia areata for the second time and without knowing it, dr. pai educated me more than the doctor i used to see in chicago, who was apparently one of the best dermatologists in the midwest. at any rate, i will have to go back again for another treatment and am actually looking forward to it. i feel like i was treated well by a pleasant staff and a good doctor. read more

5 stars for Dr. Gabriel Pai. Best dermatologist I know and most knowledgable too. He takes time to listen to your concerns and does a very thorough exam. He is extremely friendly and attentive and exudes a lot of confidence--and for good reason--he REALLY knows what he's doing. I had him remove an annoying hyper pigmented post pregnancy "mole" on my lip by nitrogen freezing and the procedure itself was just a few seconds. Didn't hurt at all.. in fact, i thought it was so quick and easy , that i doubted it did anything.. but sure enough, a few days went by and the "mole" fell off and was not seen again. Excellent technique and skills. He is my "go to" dermatologist for any skin/nail related concerns as he's always been able to provide the best advice. Highly recommend Dr. Gabriel Pai. oh and btw, i don't live near pasadena at all, but i am willing to drive an hour just to see him. read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Ivy Lee a month or so ago and I was quite pleased. I had gone to this office to see Dr. Grenier (another great dermatologist) annually for many years but unfortunately, Dr. Grenier moved to Pacific Palisades. Dr. Lee was very knowledgable, nice, patient, and thorough. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have NEVER had any problems with the staff at this office. Dr. Lee was great. She was thorough, have me good information & plenty of samples. She did not try to"sell" me on unnecessary procedures. The front office staff were below average. When I first arrived I told them there was a"check on offer" & it took them a few minutes to figure out what that was. When I was checking out it seemed unclear to me & them what I was coming back for. A few months later I got a reminder call about my appointment. I forgot that I had one & asked what it was for. I've been a patient of Dr. Pai's for almost a year and this review is long over due. If you are familiar with my reviews you know they follow a pattern so you can always rely on their consistency. For physicians they're a bit different of course. Expertise Dr. Pai was educated at the Keck School of Medicine of USC with a specialty in Dermatology. He's board certified in Dermatology. There is a literal endless list of procedures he performs and awards and recognitions that have been bestowed upon him. Apart from the awards you might be thinking, 'yes, but, these are things I would expect from any Dermatologist I choose to see'. I would agree with you. So here's the stuff that makes Dr Gabriel Pai so different. For one, he cares. No, I mean he really cares. He cares about the work he does. He cares about the procedure he is performing on you and how you are feeling at the beginning and every step of the way. He cares about the questions you have and he will answer them with every amount of detail you expect and then some. He is an intuitive practioner. What I mean by that is he knows what you need without much guidance or a lot of words from you and this is a pretty unusual quality to find in a doctor. As a result of all this his results are always excellent. Of course I can't speak for anyone's results but mine and the family members, all living relatives and friends--effectively those I cherish most in the world--that I've referred to him up to this point because naturally they're the people I want to have the best care possible. Staff/Operations It was this category that actually finally inspired me to write this review. Why? Because while in my experience, the practice runs like a clock, I learned from a staff member that there is a spirit of continuous improvement through the Organization. Cheers! Example: they are currently undergoing cross training to anticipate the busy summer months. This will allow members to act double duty. So, Valerie, who I typically see because she is Dr Pai's nurse, was running the front desk today and I had the pleasure to meet another staff member instead. When I arrived, the waiting room was packed and I wondered if my appointment time would be realised. Yes, it is true, sometimes I have had to wait in this office. Imagine that. Waiting for an appointment. I'm sure none of you have ever had to do that, However, interested to see how this would play out I watched as patient after patient came out and in and my appointment time drew closer. I couldn't have been more than seven minutes late when they called my name which I considered to be great time. It seemed the spirit of continuous improvement was working! What makes them first class in this category in my view is hiring the right people. Valerie is a first rate nurse. As I shared with Dr Pai today, she is also multi talented, as she was able to step behind the front desk and manage that process successfully as well. I've observed her intelligently answering questions, being knowledgable about complex procedures, quieting down anxious patients ( me, that is) and prepping for procedures in a completely informed and efficient manner. She is clearly a great asset to this practice. Sue, who works in the front office is another staff member I've had the pleasure of speaking with on a number of occasions. I would call her a receptionist but that wouldn't be fair because she's far more. Sue is often times your first impression of this office and they are lucky to have this congenial 'problem solver' as their representative. That is what she's been to me on more than one occasion. Location Dr Pai is part the practice known as Pasadena Premier Dermatology which includes a number of well known dermatologists. The practice is conveniently located close to the 210 freeway off of Lake Avenue and straight down one way Green Street. A right on Catalina takes you to ample parking and the office is an elevator ride to the third floor. Dr. Pai is a great dermatoligist! He answered all my questions and is an extremely patient doctor who listens to his patients. I had to get a mole removed on my face and Dr. Pai was very meticulous with the removal where he was cognizant of not leaving any major scars. Moreover, the procedure was practically pain free as compared to a recent Beverly Hills dermatologist I had seen. Highly recommend going to Dr. Pai. I saw Dr Garibyan a few weeks ago for some Botox. I've had it done before so it wasn't my first time. I really noticed she took her time to explain things to me. I didn't have to see a nurse or a nurse practitioner or some salesman to sell me injections. I saw the dr and she focused on my needs. The results are fabulous. She didn't over sell or go crazy with putting unnecessary Botox. Definitely recommend her. read more

1. They screwed up my appointment so that when I arrived they had not scheduled it. So, I did not get to see the doctor I had scheduled. 2. They had me see Dr. Janet Vafaie. 3. Dr. Vafaie gave a superrficial exam of my skin. Very un-thorough, very cursory, very useless. I had to point out spots to look at. She did not look at anything unless I asked. 4. I had to pay over $200 for having one spot burned off with liquid nitrogen. 5. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO SEE DR. JANET VAFAIE. And, probably will not go back to this clinic. read more

Dr. Deneholz is fabulous. He has to be the nicest man and so knowledgeable! He takes the time to hear your concerns and makes you feel that no problem is too big. My daughter suffers from acne and when he was examing her he put her at ease with the knowledge that this can be cured. Follow my instructions, and together we can get rid of this acne. This place sucks. I've been having some, ahem, issues with my skin and phoned here last September to try to get in with Dr. Dana Grenier (after having read some positive reviews about her on Yelp). She wasn't accepting any new patients, so they booked me an appointment with a Dr. Pai who works in the same office. So, cool, right? I'd never seen a dermatologist before and figured that I had nothing to lose. I get there, he comes out half an hour late and spends a total of FIVE minutes with me in the office. Prescribes me these super expensive antibiotics without even having examined my face or asking me for my medical history, and seemed eager to usher me out of his office. The pills cost $440 for a 30-day supply and I was supposed to be on them for 3 months. That's fine. Insurance covered it after the first month so I wasn't too worried; figured that I would ride out the 3 months. Well, the 3 months go by and I don't see much improvement. I go back today to revisit Dr. Pai. Again, he was unhelpful. Goes over several other options, which he proceeds to discredit because they are "time-intensive processes" that will require "lab work and blood tests" and then hands me another prescription for a 3-month supply of the same expensive shit that I was taking before. So I'm never going back to him again and I need a second opinion. Can someone PLEASE recommend a decent dermatologist who actually knows what they're doing and won't just push super pricey pills on you? I'm willing to drive anywhere. Argh asjhdkjgfsk. read more

Before making an appointment, read this and the other reviews addressing the same sort of issues. I am a long time patient of Dr. Ivy Lee. I was turned away when I checked in for my regular 6 mo visit today because they are not in my Blue Shield network. I had checked the Blue Shield website and they ARE listed as members. When I brought this up they said they couldn't help what the website says. After speaking with the Office Mgr, it turns out they ARE IN FACT members, but they are simply not billing Blue Shield for new patients (I am an existing patient). It was an administrative decision to take some Blue Shield patients but not others. I took time off, paid for parking and now have to find a new dermatologist. This is a shoddy way to treat a patient who has referred many other patients to her. Beware of this unprofessional, inconsiderate operation. read more

If this review was only about Dr. Hu it would be a five. But the office staff is so HORRIBLE I'm giving this place one star. If I could, it would be zero stars... 5 for Dr. Hu and negative 5 for the staff. The star of the horrible show is the Office Manager. Not only is she one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to, but she actually had the nerve contradict medical advice I was given. I asked her if she was a doctor or even a nurse. She proclaimed, "I am the Office Manager". Um-ok... so you don't know what your talking about do you? I'm still waiting to hear back from this nasty woman about a refund. Do you think I'll get a call back. Doubt it as it's already been a week. Guess I'll just have to call her back. Then I'll be able to tell her that she was the star of my review and the main reason I won't go back to this place. Don't get me wrong, she wasn't the only horrible office staffer I spoke to on the phone, she's just the worst of the bunch. Wow! Horrible, unprofessional experience. It took me two weeks to get a first time appointment. When I finally arrived I couldn't get anyone's attention behind the counter. There was an important conversation about how much butter was in their cookies. I signed in and found some paperwork I assumed they needed filled out. 5 minutes later my presence was acknowledged and was told I would be seen shortly. 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment I was STILL not seen by the doctor. I asked about the delay and was told the doctor was very busy and in surgery. Well, I'm also very busy. I explained that I had another appointment to get to and described the 45 minutes I has already invested. Without an apology (or even eye contact) I was asked if I wanted to reschedule. I was so irritated at this point. No one has called with an apology or further explanation. The worst part is that I really needed to see a doctor. So, so unprofessional. read more

I have some bumps on my forehead that I wanted removed. Dr. Lee spent about 5 minutes with me examining these bumps. She said they couldn't be removed and gave me some vague explanation saying it would probably just leave a dark spot where they were removed. She then had me buy a "special cream" developed by one of the doctors (David Denenholz). The "special cream" cost $75. She then said to use the cream and come back in 3 months. Her office charged my insurance company $113.23. My insurance company paid $57.12 leaving me with a bill for $56.12. So my total cost is $131.12 for a 5 minute checkup and a jar of cream which has done nothing. The office of my general practitioner said I should report this to the Better Business Bureau which I plan to do. read more

I saw Dr. Denenholz over a few years. He has a wonderful, friendly, easy bedside manner which of course is appealing. The part I was concerned about was every time I went, it was a quick, incomplete glance at my skin. He'd find a couple things and quickly fix it by grabbing his "handy dandy" freezing machine and just zap the spots. I also, had ezcema on my hands of which he treated the best he could. Now to the reason I gave him only "2" stars. I developed an rash on both forearms. After it persisted for a few weeks, I made an appointment to have it checked. Dr. Denenholz (again) briefly glanced at it and said it looks like your ezcema! Not much can be done for that, so I went home. After a couple weeks, I realized I had started using a different sunscreen and that's when the rash developed. (Duh) I stopped using it, and it went immediately away. That's when my opinion of him changed. I thought, shouldn't the doctor do a history? Shouldn't he doctor ask a few simple BASIC questions like "Has anything changed"? "Are you using any new products"? Nope. None of that was done. A dermatologist who didn't even recognize a simple allergic reaction. Wow! That's when I found a new doctor. read more

This review is on Kara, the aesthetist. Do not go to her if you have any level of tanned skin. You will not like the outcome and will suffer psychologically. I feel that she was not honest with me at any level. I recently had a laser procedure done (1 week ago) with their EROS laser, and now my skin is burned. Obviously she was able to visually see my skin color, I presented my concerns about having a darker Asian skin with laser procedures, and yet she stated that I was a good candidate. I am now seeing an expert dermatologist with decades of experience in treating patients who have had complicaitons secondary to laser procedures. This dermatologist stated that I should never have undergone this procedure. By the way, this dermatologist does laser procedures so she does not have a bias against it. With my face burned, I am now being treated by an appropriate dermatologist. read more
