My first smog check. Growing pains... I came around 9AM on a Friday morning and there was no line for a smog check. Alen saw me pull up and walked over to greet me. He seated me in his office and took my keys and DMV notice. He told me to wait and help myself to drinks. Alen was very polite and an overall nice guy. What amazed me was that he had current magazines, like the September 2011 issue of Bazaar! I waited no more than 10 minutes and he came back to tell me the car passed. Cool. He explained the paperwork, that he sent the results electronically and I only needed to pay the registration now. Great! Cost: $40 total for my SUV, including the $20 Yelp discount and electronic submittal fee to DMV. Alen actually applied the discount without me asking, but maybe he saw my Yelp bottle opener on the key ring. Credit cards accepted. 5 stars for friendly service and a quick smog check. Fastest smog check I've had to date! I was in and out within 10 minutes of pulling in on a Saturday afternoon. The standard price for the check is $60, but they knock of $20 before you can even tell them that you want to exercise that yelp check-in offer for the same amount. This guy - Alan - rocks! I took my car to several other smog check stations and my car was failing. Other smog places told me I failed, they didn't know why and told me to put more miles on the car (they thought my ECU reset or some BS). When I went here, after telling Alan the story, he saw the results on his sensor, popped the hood, and located the problem within seconds. This guy helps to troubleshoot your problems - he doesn't just fail you and ship you out. He also gave me the Yelp discount without asking. I don't usually review a place until i've visited the business twice but how often am I really going to need to get a smog check? This was probably the easiest car-maintenance related experience I've ever had. It is a bit harrowing to find the place among all of the other garages at the address but if you follow the blue smog check signs you should be fine. After driving in and looking lost, the man (I think Allen was his name) must have sensed I was there for a smog check and came out and drove my car into the garage for me. The process must have taken around 10 minutes (there was NO waiting and he was very quick and efficient). With the Yelp discount (they didn't check my phone for it so I assumed that was where the discount she mentioned was from...maybe the lady saw me check-in?), the cost was $40. You probably could find a cheaper price but honestly, this place was so quick and the people so nice that it's worth it. read more

Allen is the man. Never thought I'd write a review for a smog check but this guy deserves it. Brought in my really old bimmer and didn't pass. Instead of simply breaking the bad news and telling me to come back another time, he got his hands dirty and did some impressive sleuthing. somehow determined that my air intake boot (yeah, didn't know what that was either) had tiny cracks in it causing the results to be skewed. Instead of telling me to get a new part, he walks over to his bench and busts out some tape and zip ties and tightened the tubes where the cracks were. It was no easy task and almost felt bad for the guy. All I could muster was "thanks for helping me" and he said "no problem" with a friendly smile. sure enough, the car passed. Customer service, knowledge, tenacity, and problem solving - couldn't have asked for a better experience. granted, I was the only guy in his shop at the time but am nonetheless a very satisfied dude. read more

Alen and his wife saved me $500. Went in for smog check. Didn't pass. Seemed that the crappy superglue repair the car dealership made to one of the air hoses leaving the air filter cover broke off. Hard to notice something like that unless it breaks off. Also the air filter cover was missing one of it's small hoses. Alen clearly explained how to fix it property without having to replace the whole air cover. I went out, got the parts, and fixed it in about 1.5 hrs. Total cost of repair $4. If I went back to the dealership they would have forced me to buy a whole new air cover for $500. Hate car dealerships! Anyway, went back to get the car re-tested. Passed perfectly. This is the only honest, nice, quick, efficient place to get your smog test and smog check in Pasadena. read more

My very first time coming here was about 2 years ago. It was an instant favorite of mine. I really can't overstate how friendly Al was. And incredibly quick on top of that. All of this would be more than enough reason to earn my repeat business. But then there's the fact that he has fair pricing and a very comfortable waiting area. When I went there, he had magazines, teas and coffee, and even some cookies laid out. His shop was incredibly clean as well. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. Facility: apart from the waiting room, the actual station is very clean, spacious. there is nothing near your car that could accidently bump into it. Everything is spaced out and organized. Best customer service ever! I showed up ten minutes before the posted closing time for a smog test. The owner stopped what he was doing with the previous customer and told me that I could have a seat in his waiting room. I chose to stand outside and make a call because there was someone inside waiting already and I didn't want to be rude. Within about 5 minutes, the owner came over and brought a chair outside for me to sit in. He finished with the other customer and immediately started my smog check. When he was done he filled my tires with air (total surprise!). He came over and said that there was an internet special and that the cost was only $40. I didn't even have to show him the check in special on my iPhone. He then explained to me the results of my test and let me know that I didn't have to send them in, he had already done so. I've been here twice, once for my girlfriend's 93 Benz and my 02 Lexus. This man has the best smog station service/etiquette I've ever seen. He has a very clean waiting room with free coffee, magazines, free wifi, all for you. His service is always done with a smile (feel free to chat him up!). I'm sure he won't mind me sayin', but he also has the CHEAPEST smog around. Why? Because he owns the shop and refuses to hire a tech that doesn't guarantee the same service he provides, and at a higher cost. I've been a diehard Yelp user for years but rarely write reviews. I should do more. Who thought I would be so happy with the service at a smog check station? We all dread getting those DMV notices. But I heard good things about this place and went. I had to go to a STAR smog check, which they do. I have a 2004 red BMW and years ago but in a cold air intake filter. It's not on the permitted list the state maintains. Alen looked on the Internet and gave me the info and phone # to call the manufacturer (he tried but got voice mail). No charge. So I had my mechanic find the stock BMW part and install it and went back this week. There was a car in the work area so I parked on the street. The car left, boom, Alen comes to me, takes my car and gets to work. They have a nice waiting area inside with water & magazines and some comfy chairs in the work area. I settle in for what I think will be awhile and then Alen comes over to me. Uh oh, I'm thinking, some problem. Nope, I just filled out a few questions and I was DONE. Very reasonable cost and a nice personality and atmosphere. The 1st visit I think I met his wife.
