In Seattle for a girls trip and a friend told us we can't go home until we eat at Paseo's. I would echo the injunction! The #1 is absolutely the way to go. I'm gluten free and they can make it a rice bowl or a lettuce wrap- go for the rice, the lettuce would be too messy. We also ordered a variety of sides; the nachos and corn were particularly delicious, but it's the FRIES that blew everyone away. The seasoning on those humble potatoes were to die for- and the sauce! I remember trying Paseo sandwiches for the first time in 2013 and was amazed by the flavours and the line that went straight out the restaurant. With this new location, we didn't have to wait long for the delicious subs. The sandwiches are still so tasty with stuffings flowing out of the buns. We ordered the Carribbean Roast, Paseo Press, Chicken Breast, and Smokin' Thighs. I think the Carribbean Roast and the Paseo Press are tied for the best. I usually don't like to eat onions and there were a lot in the sandwich, but the sauce/cooking made it taste delicious. We came here for one of their drive in movie nights during covid! What a fun Friday night. We came an hour early and got a drink on the patio. I got the house margarita and it was beautiful and delicious! We then ordered the paseo press and the Caribbean roast, with the tostones and a side of beans. Since we were part of the drive in movie, they brought it to our car, along with a second round of drinks (adult Capri sun style this time). So far, I've had the number 1 Caribbean pork sandwich, prawn sandwich, and fried plantains. The pork sandwich did not disappoint and definitely lived up to the hype. The pork is tender and packed with flavor, caramelized onions are done right, and the extra frills bring everything together in your mouth. Just keep in mind that the juices will make the crunchy bread soft if it sits too long, so don't take too long to enjoy it. The prawn sandwich is also great and packed with flavor. There's obviously less meat in this sandwich compared to the pork, but it's enough to satisfy you. However, my preference is the pork. Finally, the fried plantains were crunchy, seasoned well and came with a good dipping sauce that you could use on your sandwich bread too. Either way it consistently tastes amazing so I keep coming back! The semi-sweet tortilla chips here will cause me to slip into a diabetic coma one of these days but it'll be completely worth it. Their staff is super friendly and the place is clean. They have hand sanitizers everywhere and it's big enough that you don't feel crammed. I've heard so much about Paseo, so when I saw a Groupon for it, I had to get it so I can try it. The Groupon was only good for the Pike or 1st Ave locations, so we went to the one one Pike Street, and found out they were closed for construction and the one in 1st Ave was already closed that day (they closed at 6pm). So we went again to the location on 1st Ave. The Groupon was for two sandwiches and four sides. We ordered the Sautéed Prawns sandwich and the Chicken Breast sandwich with Caribbean Fries and Chips and Salsa. I had really wanted the Roasted Corn, but they were out. The chips were basic tortilla chips, but the salsa was good. The Caribbean Fries were okay, I don't know what made them Caribbean fries, maybe the aioli dipping sauce it came with had some kind of Caribbean seasoning to it? I put the fries in the oven when I got home to make them crispier and sprinkled some seasoning on it, then it was really good. The sandwiches were good, full of flavor. This is a solid place to get a sandwich for sure. You probably know what to expect--a big, tasty, gigantic mess between two pieces of bread that are falling to pieces as soon as you go grab the plate. You park in a pay lot right outside the door. There's lots of room inside. When you walk in, the order counter is just across from the door; you order food and drink, including plenty of draft beer choices. There's a big "tiki bar" space to your left, and a long row of booths down the windows to your right. There are plenty of flat screens showing the game. Prices are pretty fair, and the choices are good. They call your number when your sandwich is ready, and you run down to the end of the counter. The sandwich is fine--you can barely eat half of it out of your hand. It's falling on your plate the whole time, so you'll need a fork whether you like it or not. It's so insanely messy that you'll end up with a pile of dirty napkins at the end that's as big as the sandwich itself was in the first place. It's not the sandwich it was back in the day, but it's good, and people surely do line up for it. A wonderful spot to scratch a Caribbean itch. The sandwiches are the stars here. Each one is larger than a football and could easily be shared by two for a complete meal. I love the earthiness of the chicken thigh with carmalized onions, roasted sweet peppers served on a warm, fluffy bun. It's a mess worth making. Side note, the chicken thighs come with skin on and some gnarly cartilage bits, so be sure to ask for the thighs without that stuff if chunky nuggets freak you out. I also love the rice and bean platters that come with a choice of chicken, tofu or pulled pork. The pulled pork tastes so warm and wonderful like it has been slow roasted for many hours. The beans also have a sweet, Caribbean flair that transports you to an island of your choosing. The only drawback is the parking as their lot only allows for 5 cars without paying. I have to say... this was my first time trying Caribbean food, and Paseo did not disappoint. Honestly, I'm not sure why this particular location doesn't have the best reviews, because I liked the food here. I guess my only issue was that the location seems a bit unsafe (located behind Safeco Park next to some other janky-looking businesses). Based on other Yelpers' reviews, I knew I had to order their pulled pork plate. They provide tons of food with the order - pork, rice, salad, beans, AND a corn cob. Half a plate was definitely enough for me, but what was nice was that the leftovers made a nice road trip snack. The pork was soooo juicy and tender, but a tad short on the flavor. Regardless, it paired so perfectly with the rice and salad, that I barely noticed. I didn't really touch the beans, but from the few bites I had, I thought they were also lacking some sort of kick. Overall, though, I thought I got a generous portion for the price ($14). Would love to come back again when I decide to visit Seattle again! read more

We came here after a quick stop at the Starbucks Reserve/Starbucks Headquarters down the street. This place was recommended by a friend, and I am SO glad he did! We went with our friend's recommendation: the Caribbean Roast sandwich. It was amazing! The pork was so tender and the sandwich basically melted in your mouth. The sauces on it went so well with the meat as well. We were literally dripping juice on our plates then scooping it up because it was so tasty! We shared it between the two of us as a light snack before dinner, but it was still pretty filling. My only complaints would be the woman at the cash register didn't seem very friendly and the place could have been a bit cleaner. My mom and I were in Seattle for last month during Labor Day weekend and my sister also recommended us this place so I had to see what the rave was about. We ordered the sandwiches to go since we were on the way to the Aviation Museum and we decided we can eat it there instead of at the restaurant. They also have outdoor seating's which would be nice on a sunny day. :) Anyways, you walk in and the cash register is right up front so you can order then sit down. What we ordered: #1: Famous Caribbean Roast - Oh man, I can see why this one is #1 best rated because it was just too delicious to even put it into words. The slow roasted pork and the caramelized onions was just amazing! Super meaty and filling. The bread also was nice and soft. Man, I'm just drooling thinking about the delicious sandwich.... #2: Paseo Press - This one was second best rated according to the cashier and honestly, this one was also delicious! The paseo sandwich was a little bit more spicy but it had a good kick to it since it has some banana peppers! Both sandwiches are honestly great choices and your hands will get messy but it's worth it. The cashier lady was also super warm and welcoming and explained to us the menu. I ordered the Famous Caribbean Roast, which is their most popular sandwich and apparently ~the best sandwich in America~ The baguette was toasted to perfection. The pork was tender and flavorful. They are very generous with their pork! The onions were caramelized nicely and gave the sandwich a sweet note. I admit... I was a little intimidated before eating because the sandwich was packed with pork. It became very messy and wet. I felt overwhelmed with meat after just eating the first half. Overall, even though the sandwich was messy, I really enjoyed it. This would be a great place to go to, especially if you're starving. My sandwich was great--so much tender chicken, pickled jalapeños, romaine lettuce, savory caramelized onions and the sauce was not overpowering and had cilantro (delicious) and the bread / baguette was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The French would be proud, ha. If you're a fan of banh mi, you will love the sandwiches here. My friend got the Caribbean roast / their flagship sandwich, and also loved his. The agua fresca, the server said she made it a little concentrated but I didn't mind cause I can water it down myself. It was a great balance of sweet and tart and I loved it. Paseo has been on my must-try list for a while now. The Fremont location has a small parking lot about 2 doors down from the restaurant, slow down when you're almost there otherwise you won't see it. There's not much space indoors as this location is quite small; I felt crowded even waiting inside for my food. There is a bit of a wait for your food, but with how busy they always are, it's not too bad. Chips and salsa- 3/5 stars. Not my favorite at all, the salsa somehow it tasted like chili/marinara sauce? #1 Caribbean Pork Roast sandwich- 5/5 stars. The portion size is huge, you could definitely share this with someone else, especially if you also order a few sides. Very juicy and it had a ton of pork on it, I do wish it had more lettuce and jalapenos to cut through all the pork tho. Your hands will be covered in juices and probably smell like pork for the rest of the day, but it's well worth it. Tostones- 5/5 stars. Sooo crispy and the sauce it comes with is a really yummy cajun spicy mayo. Carribean Plato- 4/5 stars. I ate here today on the patio and I witnessed the manager at this restaurant attempt to kick two queer women out of the restaurant after they briefly kissed. The manager said it was a "family restaurant" and they were trying to "unclasp each other's bras". They were not even doing this. Then when one of the women told them they were discriminating, they called the police. I can't even believe I witnessed this. It was so insane. Do not eat at this restaurant.
