We finally made our first visit to Pam's Kitchen after years of meaning to go - and it did not disappoint. When we arrived, there were a few tables occupied, and we were invited to seat ourselves. We chose a cozy booth near the kitchen. One thing to note: there are no physical menus; instead, you order and pay using QR codes at the table. We started with the aloo pies and, of course, couldn't pass up the jerk chicken. Everything arrived at once rather than in courses, but it didn't take away from the experience. Every dish was packed with flavor. The aloo pies had a taste reminiscent of samosas :: crispy on the outside with a warmly spiced filling :: and were served with a tangy chutney that complemented them perfectly. The jerk chicken was the standout. Tender, juicy, and beautifully seasoned with warm, balanced spices :: it was easily the highlight of the meal. It came with rice and peas (beans), which were some of the best we've had, along with a simple green salad that surprised us with its freshness and bright citrus vinaigrette. We also had the pleasure of chatting with Pam, who was just as warm and welcoming as the food she prepares. She mentioned that they often have live music on weekends, which sounds like a great reason to return. I also noticed they offer an all-you-can-eat buffet on Wednesdays, and after this experience, I'm especially excited to come back and try more of the menu. If everything else is as good as what we had, we're already sold. Oh! I almost forgot :: my husband ordered a wonderful drink, the Trinidad Smash. One sip transported us to vacation mode, instantly! I'd give the food 4 stars and service/ambiance 2. We ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and it was pretty good. I loved the coconut fry bread it was served on! That was the highlight. The restaurant didn't seem very busy the night we came in, but they did have a lot of takeout orders. We placed our order via QR code at the table and waited... and waited. There were a lot of takeout orders coming from the kitchen but those of us dining in seemed to be sitting around a long time waiting for food and drinks. No one came to check on us and since we paid on the app, there was no interaction other than being seated and having our food brought out. My friends and I came on a Saturday night, so thankful that Pam's was able to accommodate a big group! The food was good. I liked the pelau with the the channa curry but I'm not sure if I would have liked it by itself. I would have wanted to try other items on the menu but they were sold out of... basically everything. Our food came out pretty late because we had ordered the aloo pies but we were only told that they were out after everyone else's food had come out. So we had to place our order + wait for the food to be made, leading to a ~15min delay compared to our friends. Would want to come back and try when they have more in stock! read more

There are tables and booths for dining. A dance floor and a main bar. Kitchen is in the back. We decided to order takeout. There was a steady local fanfare that would pickup their orders for takeout as we waited, so it seems like a fair amount of locals come thru here. The goat curry seemed like a small portion in my opinion. I was expecting like a gravy type curry, but it was more of a curry rub I believe and was a little greasy in my opinion. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the flavors and polished mine off. The jerk wings had a slight sweetness to its rub and to my palate was not too spicy for me, but my nephew thought it was spicy. We also ordered the paratha roti and dhalpuri roti. Both were delicious. Stop in and judge for yourself. This place is super delicious! I've never had Trinidadian food, but after eating here, I'm instantly a fan! We ordered the goat curry with dhal roti, kale, and spicy jerk chicken wings. The dhal roti was perfectly chewy and didn't feel oily at all, and coupled with the dhal, it was perfect. The jerk chicken wings had so much flavor but wasn't overly salty, highly recommend. The one thing I'd suggest is if you can't handle super spicy foods, maybe go for the regular jerk chicken entree instead. First time here (finally) and we're in love! The service was awesome. Super accommodating and knowledgable. We really appreciated that our server went and checked with the chef and owner about dietary questions. Cozy but surprisingly large space! We showed up after 8pm but it got busier and busier through the night. Lively ambiance :) Food was of course incredible. I'd be curious to know if some items are halal. Very worth the price for quality and quantity.Plus the hot sauce slaps; will be buying a bottle next time! My one and only critique is that the website menu doesn't match the QR code menu - a couple items are no longer available, and the QR menu doesn't have gf/vegan stuff marked. Amazing service, wonderful food & amazing Lady Pam is. My family is actually from the village she is from in Trinidad and it was a walk down memory lane. I was trying to explain to my husband about her bread and chicken my cousins and I would walk to her shop to buy. And then I saw the painting I was speechless. When I first saw her on food network I asked my cousins if they recognize her because why do I feel like I seen her before and yeah that's Pam! It was a joy chatting with her and sad to know she will be closing. Her food was amazing and it was such a joy to see such a beautiful display of the culture in another city. Was looking for interesting looking food in the Wallingford area and Pam's Kitchen showed up as an recommended restaurant that was well liked by the community. We went on a Saturday around 7PM and had no wait time to get seated. As for parking, I could see it being difficult to find close by streetside parking during the busy times of the day. Fortunately, there is parking at the nearby QFC lot, granted that you are willing to buy some groceries in order to park there for an extended period of time and walk on over. Service is relatively fast, the restaurant wasn't too busy when we went, and we were able to get all of our food in about 15 minutes. The ambiance is very casual and homely - with Caribbean/Trinidad decorations scattered throughout the restaurant. Ordering is done through viewing an online menu, and then through your waiter. We tried a couple of items, which I'll review down below: Callaloo ($6): I think that this was a delicious side/appetizer dish! I personally have never had Callaloo, and I was excited to try it. The best description that I could come up with, is that it tastes like a more fragrant, creamier, and smoother spinach and artichoke dip. This is a pleasant side dish that I think would compliment anything else you are planning on the menu. Coconut Fry Bread ($5): I've tried fry bread before, but not specifically coconut fry bread with Caribbean influences. This bread is delicious - ranges from thin and crispy outer shell when you rip it, to the soft pillowy inside. There is a subtle coconut flavor in each bite so it does live up to the name. Stewed Oxtail ($28): As a fan of oxtail in Caribbean cooking - hearty and decadent in terms of flavor and texture. Very meaty and each bite is indulgent. You can taste a comfortable spice in the sauce (likely habanero if I had to guess) and a slight sweetness that is pleasant. The macaroni and rice + peas (beans) provide a nice texture contrast and serve as a good palate cleanser. Macaroni Pie ($12): Same macaroni as served in the Stewed Oxtail entree - I personally think that for $12, this macaroni side isn't really worth it. It is decent macaroni for sure, and if you love this style of macaroni you will love it, but I think it is better you just taste it in an entree order that includes it - this is basically just $12 for a little under double the macaroni you get in an entree for reference. In the end, I thought that Pam's Kitchen is a solid place to visit if you are in Wallingford and looking to fulfill Caribbean cravings. The atmosphere is very like you went to a local establishment in Trinidad and had some nice home cooking. I would definitely like to revisit to try the other interesting options that Pam's Kitchen has to offer! read more

Wonderful longstanding Caribbean restaurant in Wallingford. My friend and I went here before a show at the Good Shepard. That night happened to have karaoke at Pam's as well. First off, the food: we shared spicy jerk chicken, roti and curry (chickpea/potato), pumpkin choka, coconut bread. All dishes were outstanding and filling. The jerk chicken was well spiced, tender and fall-off-the-bone, and just the right amount of spice. The roti and coconut bread were addictive, and choka was flavorful. The price is great for the deliciousness of the food too. Finally, the vibes: although it was fairly empty the weekday night we went, the performers were super talented and gave it their all. The emcee was great too. This was a fantastic pre-show dinner setting and would highly recommend Pam's to anyone. read more

Fantastic, delicious food. This place deserves more traffic! The jerk chicken was falling off the bone and saucy (great to mix with the rice and salad). The lamb curry was also great, tender and not too spicy. There is a hot sauce you can use if you want it spicier. Housemade drinks were an interesting flavor (we had hibiscus, ginger, and pineapple). There's vegetarian options that too! Pam served us and was very proud of her food (deservedly so). Kind of reminds me of samosas, fairly filling, quite delicious - Spicy Jerk Wings: decently seasoned, a bit on the pricier side given there were only 5 small pieces. It is a decent, small dish if you wished to try some jerked chicken but don't want to commit to a full entree. - Pelau: boneless dark and white chicken with coconut milk, rice, and beans. I really like this dish, with the flavor profile. It kind of reminds me of a jambalaya. - Chicken Curry: Trinidadian style, well spiced, chicken is overall delicious though a little bit dry in some parts depending on the cut of the chicken. Generous portions, with chickpeas and potatoes served Most of these dishes come with a salad that has cabbage and apple and I love the dressing of it. We got food to go from here on the Xmas Eve, while the other Caribbean place we wanted to go closed due to holidays. We called over the phone and the owner was very friendly and double checked to make sure we wanted to order everything spicy. We ordered jerk chicken wings, jerk pork rib dinner and jerk chicken dinner. She recommended us order a curry dish so it wasn't going to be all spicy. We ended up sticking to our choices and the food was delicious, spicy for sure, but delicious. When we got there, the place was pretty empty and quiet, considering it was the Xmas Eve. The owner greeted us and joked about the level of spiciness. We really enjoyed the conversation with her and she made the order to go quite a pleasant experience. Flew in from Hawai'i for the weekend and being that my BF is from T&T, this Restaurant was a must do. One thing is to try and go close to opening as we went around 6pm and a lot of things were sold out. We also went during a night where they closed early for a private party but there was no mention of it on any of their social media platforms. Service was incredibly friendly by all of their Staff. There's QR codes on the tables and you can order and pay through the app.. every introverts dream! We ended up ordering the Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Lamb Curry, and Roti. Absolutely delicious! The spices and seasonings were perfect and didn't over power anything. The roti was so light but chewy. My Bf that really isn't a big eater, cleaned out everything! Pam's Kitchen is very dear to me. There are so few restaurants that serve Trinidadian food, and even fewer still that carry the variety of Trinidadian dishes that Pam's Kitchen has. We have a few restaurants in Metro Vancouver that serve Trinidadian food, and while they serve up some decent eats, they mostly just serve roti. I love that I can get so many other types of familiar Trinidadian dishes at Pam's Kitchen, in addition to the roti! Paratha Roti Pumpkin Choka Callaloo Sweet Fried Plantains Chicken Curry Roti Sorrel Last time we came to Pam's Kitchen was years ago. I don't think they had Pumpkin Choka on the menu at that time. That's a new addition to me. Whenever I used to travel to Trinidad, one of my favourite foods to eat was Eggplant Choka. I'd never even heard of Pumpkin Choka until now. My husband seemed to like this dish. For me it was just OK. I prefer the Eggplant Choka that I'm more familiar with. However, I am still happy to see any kind of Choka at all on the menu as I have not seen it anywhere within Metro Vancouver. My husband wasn't too crazy about the Callaloo; however, I actually loved the Callaloo. If I'd had more room in my tummy I would have loved to have ordered some rice to eat with the Callaloo as that was always my favourite way to eat it in Trinidad. The Paratha roti however was very nicely done and paired well with the Callaloo in place of the rice that I would usually have it with. There's no going wrong with Sorrel or Sweet Fried Plantains! A Caribbean-Trinidadian restaurant with through-the-roof flavors, a confusing ordering system, and an owner who makes you feel like family. It wasn't at all crowded during dinnertime on a Friday night and strangely, they had limited amounts of each dish so many things were already out or not available. As others have mentioned, the multistep ordering system through the app seemed like an unnecessary hassle. The waitress ended up taking care of us at the end. But the food was worth it! We ordered a goat curry and a jerk chicken sandwich. The curry was too salty but so deliciously flavorful, and the sweet coconut fry bread of the sandwich blew our socks off and brought out the rich spicy meat perfectly. I've also heard great things about their rum punch! And I love that it's family owned. In the middle of our meal the owner called to all of us to "Get the shrimp, it's really good!" Everyone was having a great time and we felt very welcome. My one complaint is that this one entree and sandwich cost almost $60. The goat curry was perfect spicy and tender, with a solid portion of meat for the "side" order, though it was smaller than I expected for $18. The coconut fry bread was light and tasty, though didn't taste strongly of coconut. The callaloo was a discovery of coconut, okra, and green cooked together in a delicious and thick mixture that I would eat again and again. Our party of 7 came around 6:20 on a Wednesday night (Wednesday before Thanksgiving), and it was not crowded at all. Just a heads up that their second location is a take-out only location, but there were plenty of tables here to dine in. The cocktails are also really good here, but my party didn't drink a ton, so we didn't get to try anything super fancy. Pam is also super nice, we chatted her after our dinner since we were the only party inside the restaurant! Aloo Pie (4.5/5): Potato stuffed samosas with mango chutney dipping sauce. A tad bit spicy, but the potato filling was really light and not too dense. Paratha Roti (5/5): Tastes very similar to Roti Canai (may just be the same thing), but was nice and fresh and fluffy with many layers. I wish there was a dipping sauce for it, but stand alone is also good, just like an appetizer bread. Jerk Chicken Sandwich (5/5): Spicy!! It was such a nicely seasoned sandwich. I think this is a must try when eating here! Pelau (4/5): Wish there was more chicken inside the rice and bean dish, but the lettuce mixed with the rice made it a good combination. There was a lot of rice, so just felt like I was mainly eating rice and beans. I might have just gotten a side order because the full was too much for one person. Coco Bake (3/5) : Same bread as the jerk chicken sandwich, crunchy and fresh. Reminds me of Chinese donut, but more dense.
