    Caribbean Roast

the thing I loved most about this sandwich is it was absolutely loaded up with pork there was so much of the pork between the two sandwich buns that it was hard to actually take a bite of the full sandwich at once I found that really impressive - they absolutely give you a very strong amount of meat here As for how the pork was, I thought it was really good You do get a lot of flavor from the fat inside, and it's obvious it's been roasted to perfection I didn't get much flavor from the marinade, however, as other than the pork fat I'm not sure there was as much extra flavor as I was hoping. The great thing was it was really juicy, however - pressing down on it would start oozing liquid - which is exactly what you want Since the pork took up most of the sandwich, that's mostly what you got in each bite - with one major exception The onions were incredible - I absolutely loved the way these were caramelized, and they were soft yet had some denseness to them Most importantly, however, they were really large, and there was a lot of them. I don't think I've seen a place put this much of an onion on a sandwich - and it really worked to perfection here The buns were solid - they weren't special, and you couldn't really taste the aioli much because of the pork flavor soaking up most of it, but I did find that it added something, and taking a bite of the bun itself gave me more of that flavor. It does seem like it could've been toasted, though, as that would make it better The lettuce and jalapenos were also pretty solid add-ons here This sandwich was slightly expensive, but they made up for it for providing something that was pretty large, especially when you consider the amount of pork that was in it and how good that pork was. Another thing to note here was how sloppy this sandwich was. Every part of this was wet - which leaves the sandwich, the plate, and your hands covered in pork juice and oil at the end of it. I like my sandwiches this way, so this was really appealing.

My old boss used to live in Seattle. When a lot of old coworkers were all visiting, he decided to treat us to what he declared to be the best Cubano sandwich in not just the city, but the country. I'm no Cubano connoisseur, but it was a pretty dang good sandwich. It was warm, spicy, meaty, large, and messy. It was a lot--in so many ways. Split the sandwich and enjoy!

The food is always good here and the drinks were so good! This is a must try Seattle staple!

I had high hopes for Paseo, having bookmarked this place for years now, but unfortunately the food experience simply didn't deliver what I needed in this rainy Seattle weather. The spot is super casual and the servers are very kind and helpful with a minor language barrier. If you want to try one of their sandwiches and you do eat pork, give the spot a try. When I had the steak and Swiss melt, the flavor simply wasn't there. For a $30 meal (sandwich and salad) I truly hoped for a bit more

Host was extremely friendly and helpful, offering nuanced input on what to order ("is it your first time here?" and "we can do half and half between pickled jalapeños and banana peppers to see what you like"). Exceptional service! We noticed him going out of his way to provide service to other patrons as well. Cozy interior, though there were just a handful of tables. We came at 2:30pm on a Monday, so there was no wait. Was really looking forward to trying this spot, since I've heard it's famous. The Caribbean Roast was exceptional and juicy--a great number of napkins were needed. Loved this place

I'm not really a sandwich person but the sandwich here was really good. A very small place with a couple of small tables inside and out. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. A no frills kinda place but they do make good food.

Catching a flight home after a great weekend in Seattle and could not complete the trip without having a Caribbean slow roasted pork shoulder sandwich from Paseo. This place is legendary for this sandwich over several decades. The original stand is still here and packed with excited patrons. We ordered two sandwiches to go for the plane. The sandwiches were packed with juicy flavors from the slow roasted pork shoulder, pickled jalapenos, cilantro, caramelized onions, romaine lettuce, garlic aioli stuffed into a toasted baguette. It could not be any more perfect and messy. The sweetness of the onions, crispy romaine, flavorful aioli and tender pork wrapped in a warm baguette make this sandwich iconic. For the perfect sandwich with complex flavors and overall deliciousness, get to Paseo for the slow roasted pork shoulder sandwich. After 25+ years, it definitely has lasted the test of time. Congrats to Paseo for this timeless masterpiece.

A Seattle must-have no matter the location you go to! This isn't the location that most of my friends go to in the SODO area, but it still hits the spot the same. I came here on a Tuesday evening about 30 minutes before closing time, and most chairs inside were already on tables, expect for the small outdoor seating where there were still as good number of people sitting at. The inside is very casual as is the outdoor area. I got their famous Caribbean roast sandwich, and this is as loaded as I remember having it! Meat is tender, juicy and flavorful, and I didn't mind how messy it got and how things were falling out of it for some time. One sandwich is definitely enough for one person since it's already pretty big, so I wouldn't get another one unless you were really hungry. Water, napkins and other utensils are self-serve in this location. I don't have too much to say about the food here, but some places just don't need that. You just have to come try here (and their other locations) yourself!

Well..... I haven't had this in legit 10 years. I had it last in 2015 and I have been craving it ever since!!! I got to go back this August and it was a hit. It was still as good as I remembered and the sandwich was huge, dripping with flavor. Prices have gone up, but what hasn't?? The taste is still consistent and I wish I had one of these in my side of the country. Enjoyed and would recommend!! I sat outside and enjoyed the great August Seattle weather. Self service so it's easy.

I ordered: 1. Caribbean Roast sandwich - signature marinated & slow roasted pork shoulder, cilantro, pickled jalapenos, caramelized onions, romaine 2. Yuca Fries - Caribbean seasoning, cilantro aioli One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Roast Pork was so flavorful, juicy, tender, and plentiful in portion. Sandwich as a whole was flavorful and the bread was fresh, not dry. Yuca fries were good but needed more seasoning. Cilantro aioli paired great with the yuca fries. Service was good. There's a few seats inside.

Ordering is quick and easy! Free street parking in the area. Caribbean fries: good crisp, nice potato inside, good seasoning! Comes with a dip too. I definitely recommend the fries if you're feeling something crispy to eat with your meal Alaskan Cod (new to me sandwich): grilled fish, so tender! Pretty garlicky and very tasty sandwich! But boy is it tough to get some good bites in because of the type of bread. Everything squishes out the back. But I guess it's not a paseo sandwich unless your hands are messy and you're eating sandwich innards off your paper with a giant onion piece. Pork belly sandwich (also new to me!): super tasty pork and nice thick pieces of pork belly. I recommend this sandwich and also recommend halving it with someone because it's pretty fatty/rich.

So lucky to score a table before the lunch crowd came in! The shop is small, but surprisingly busy. Of course, I tried the sandwich that they're known for: the Famous Caribbean Roast. While I do love a juicy pork shoulder, I found the meat rather bland. The caramelized onions imparted the most flavor. The sandwich was dripping wet and the bread became soggy real quick. It's a messy experience, which is probably why the staff provide ample wet naps and napkins.

Does anyone know when their scallop season is? Last time I went, they didn't have the scallop sandwich and I DREAM of that thing.

I DREAM about that thing too LMAO

Would their popular sandwiches be good if eaten 3 hrs later?

Sure. Only the romaine leaf will be a bit wilted.

Are they open on memorial day?

    Awesome!

    Cash only still?

    They definitely take credit cards.

    Any vegan options here?

They have a tofu delight in their menu.

Do they still take in call in orders? I used to do that before the new management.

They take call in orders but no delivery

We arrived right at the opening time and there was a line, but it moved pretty quickly and we got our food in about 30 min. As for the food quality, these were some of the best steaks I've had in Seattle at this price point. $15 for 4 oz steak frites is a great deal, and they really load you up on the fries so you get full even with just a 4 oz steak. The steak is cooked perfectly edge to edge pink since it's sous vide. They get a nice sear on the outside so you still develop a good crust and deep flavor. It's super tender and I love the fat cap adding a beefier richness. The best sauce by far was the Sichuan Au Poivre. It was creamy, rich, and had a light citrusy peppercorn flavor. The highlight was this sauce with the fries. The sauce soaking into the beefy tallowy frites was amazing. My only complaint is I wish it had a stronger peppercorn flavor. I also liked the duck breast with the au Poivre sauce (maybe even more than the steak).

My friend and I came here midday on a Saturday, hoping to try out the Steakeasy popup. I was…read morehonestly a bit nervous beforehand, as I'd read quite a few reviews that had cited long lines, really long wait times for food, and people's orders getting lost. I can't fault a place for having lines (if you're popular, you're popular) but I was worried that we'd be dealing with both long lines and long wait times for food given that it was a weekend. I even packed a snack just in case, since I can get pretty hangry. Thankfully, the whole process was actually really smooth! My guess is that the expansion of Steakeasy's hours to include both lunch and dinner instead of just lunch has taken the pressure off the lunch service. We only waited in line for about two minutes before ordering, which was super easy given the limited menu. We were given little number signs to bring to our seats and found seats relatively easy. Now I wouldn't come here with a huge group, as most of the tables here are on the smaller side (2-4 tops) but the two of us sat down at the bar and soon after we sat down a couple tables became available. While waiting for our food, I took full advantage of the Stumbletown bar and first got a Blackberry Gin-ger and then a Purple Rain. Can you tell I like gin? I loved the cocktails and they're super quick. Food came out pretty quickly, and we were digging in about 10-15 minutes after we ordered. I got an 8 oz steak frites with chimichurri, and my lunch buddy got a 4 oz steak frites with the Sichuan au poivre. We both got our sauces on the side, which they were happy to accommodate, so that we could dunk the steak and keep our fries crispy. The steak here seems to be generally cooked to medium doneness. My ideal is a medium rare but I can rock with a medium if needed. The cut is a lean one, so this is more of a meaty one where you'll need to use your teeth than a melt in your mouth type of situation. The sauces are great, and I think the meal really benefits from the green freshness of the chimichurri. While the Sichuan au poivre seems popular (and I definitely dunked my fries in my friend's au poivre sauce) there isn't actually much Sichuan peppercorn flavor. The fries were pretty solid and plentiful. Due to having our sauce on the side, most of our fries stayed crispy until we ate them. The steak frites here are a really good value, with a 4 oz steak frites going for $15 and an 8 oz steak frites going for $25. Is this the best steak ever? No, but it definitely scratches that itch and is a good time. Worth trying!

We ordered munchies and drinks while we waited for our table at Delancey. The bartender / server knew we would be headed to Delancey in 40 minutes or so, and handled things well accordingly. We got a plate of olives (tasty, great finger food) and drinks. The Yonder cider was good, not too sweet. The Martini was tasty. I had two quibbles: The first was with the pricing: the martini was charged as two separate items: 1) gin (I suppose the charge varies by the kind of gin or vodka in your martini) 2) martini (which is apparently the non-vodka or or non-gin part of your drink) While I'm sure this makes it easier to track for the bartender and inventory, as well as for charging, as a customer, it's a little odd to have a mixed drink be a two-part charge. The second was the included 20% automatic gratuity. I don't object to the concept of a standard service charge, I just wish it had been more prominently displayed so that I wouldn't have added a 20% tip on top of that (and my tip was on the amount that included tax, service charge and drinks / food). So, buyer beware ... the service is good, the ambiance is nice, the food and drinks are good -- but the payment / billing is non-standard, and can cause unexpected surprises.

Luckily, by this time of the meal, we have acquired the little table lamp, which enabled me to see the long fish bones that had not been removed. FIVE of them. The noodles are a pathetic overcooked limp pile. The best part is the turmeric sauce. Do not order this dish. Epilogue: I happened to walk by Sophon this past weekend. I was surprised to see a sign saying they are temporarily closed to resolve internal issues. (See photo) That is never a good reflection of management. Seemed perfect - cocktails, easily accessible, with tasty looking drinks and snacks. When we arrived at 5:30p on a weekend evening , it wasn't that busy, particularly closer to the bar, so we sat at a table with no people close by. In contrast, there were two groups talking in conversationally norm tones closer the entrance and window. After about 20 Min, a server who didn't originally serve us (apparently the owner) told us it was "quiet reading time" and just repeated the phrase in an annoyed, condescending tone when we tried to ask for clarification regarding what that meant (she seemed to intentionally ignore us despite by friend trying to flag her down 4 times ) . We subsequently asked our original server if our modified whisper level was acceptable. She said "yes" And actually kindly asked us about our hobby. However, the purported owner returned 10 min later , targeting just us (not the people up front who were talking louder than us at this point) , saying we were not complying and needed to close our bill (our drinks were not half-finished at that point). We asked if there was anywhere she could recommend for an alternative to converse quietly, and she bluntly and aggressively stated, "Anywhere but here" to by friend's reasonable question. The onwr then charged me double the cost of my 14 dollar drink ($31) , making not effort to reimburse me and stating that it was my fault for not catching this?!? Huh?!? The owner then proceeded made several concerning, microaggressive, racially concerning statements that left myself and my fellow attendee shocked and sick to our stomachs. I was blown away. I actually recorded part of this on video, but won't post it here unless someone wants a clarification. Next, the owner rapidly escorted us out, though my friend was not asked to pay for his drink. Neither of these groups were individuals of color- which I bring up, due to the differential treatment we received despite all of us speaking or whispering in similar tones, and due to the words told to me that I'm having a hard time believing I heard - let's just say I felt "profiled" ... if you know what I mean. In summary , DO NOT come here if you value basic human dignity, kindness, or frankly, sanity. I do not write such negative reviews lightly- Feel free to check my other reviews, which generally are favorable to other restaurants and businesses , as I love to support small, privately owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Further, I've been YELP ELITE in years past , so it's not as if I'm not familiar with how to expect to behave and be treated in this community. Mostly I am truly sorry I ever set foot in such a scary, and hateful space.

The service was amazing, our server walked us through the dishes and helped us choose. The chicken came out looking a little unseasoned but it was the table favorite because it had the most flavor out of everything else. Looks can be deceiving lol. That potato's are amazing and a good side dish! They have a little patio as well with heating!

How I heard of this place: Not having realized how long the establishment has been around, some…read morefriends suggested we give it a go for our Taste Buds Dinner Club, and we made it happen. Type of cuisine: "We never tire of talking to our guests about how we got our quirky name. Inspired by two British drinking terms, Brimmer & Heeltap seeks to celebrate the moments that exist between the first sip of one's libation and the last drops lingering at the bottom of the glass. Since late 2013 we've delighted in creating an environment that is inviting, lively, and comforting. A sense of playfulness is present in everything we do, from the inventive dishes our culinary team prepares, to the friendly, genuine hospitality we provide. We're a bistro that takes pride in being a neighborhood place - the kind you can escape to at day's end for a delicious meal shared among friends." Ambiance: "Located in the former Le Gourmand space in beautiful Ballard, Brimmer & Heeltap offers an intimate, cozy atmosphere complete with an open kitchen, full bar, and multiple sections to drink and dine in. Our garden patio is one of the best-kept secrets in the city, offering a dreamy place to dine outdoors during Seattle's spring and summer months. We also have a tucked-away back studio that offers the perfect setting for special, private gatherings year-round. Just how many pennies does it take to cover a floor? Just ask Brimmer & Heeltap's proprietress Jen who collected tens of thousands of them from family, friends, and the community to help execute the vision of a cool gathering placed dubbed, naturally, the "Penny Room." This dining room, beloved for both its wall of menus and its shining penny floor, is a favorite place to break bread with loved ones, and plays into the restaurant's blend of nostalgic and contemporary design. The restaurant was designed in collaboration with Sean Sifagaloa of KRFTWRK and local builder Mike Marian, owner of Marian Built. Light, texture, metal, wood, and floral elements are all at play here. This historic building possesses a playful, familiar charm that we wanted to preserve in its latest incarnation." What I ordered: Wishing to sample a little of everything, we were served, family style, two orders of Bread ($9 each) - buttered with salt and pepper; Fritto Misto ($12) - assorted, lightly fried and pickled vegetables with tarragon aioli; Smashed Burrata ($19) - snap peas, preserved lemon, mint, basil, sherry reduction; Carrot & Tahini Dip ($16) - caramelized garlic, feta, pistachio, crudite; two orders of Heirloom Tomatoes ($21 each) - melon, chevre, crispy quino, soft herbs; Crispy Potatoes ($16) - whipped feta, hot honey, mint; Mushroom Agnolotti ($34) - roasted maitakes, chanterelles, whipped ricotta, miso butter, thyme; Roast Chicken ($42) - chickpea, berbere yogurt, marinated cucumber, mint gremolata. To finish off our meals, we shared the Olive Oil Cake ($14) - basil yogurt cremeux, strawberry gel, and the Chocolate Tiramisu ($16) - mascarpone, rum, amaretto, candied hazelnuts. What I loved: Oh man, every dish was delightful. I found something to savor and repeat in each of the dishes we were served. From the sweetness of the heirloom tomatoes, to the creamy burrata, from the crispy potatoes, to the fresh peas and everything in between. Our least favorite, at the table was the mushroom Angnolotti, inconsistent from bite to bite. The presentation of the Carrot & Tahini dip was a bit haphazard compared to the rest of the dishes served, but the flavor was still lovely. Why I loved it: The service was unparalleled, comfortable yet professional and quick to offer recommendations for our larger party. The decorations and quaint spaces truly welcoming, and the food, excellent. Cost: High ($40+ per person)
