This place is a little pricey for its tasting ($15), but it's probably worth it. It looks like a great venue to sit on the balcony with a picnic and wine (theirs, naturally). I was impressed by the knoweldge of the server, although he was a touch full of himself, and I was a little bit off that the event planner who came in after us got served first (*she* was full of herself, but that's incidental). What i liked though was that the server's description of the wine was extremley accurate. This is a place you should consider coming on your Healdsburg winery tour. read more

Took over the Pezzi-King winery a few years ago. Beautiful grounds. The back area has a nice area with picnic tables. View is across the Dry Creek Valley which is magnificent during the late season. The wines are very good but a little pricey. We did the standard tasting menu, and liked all we sipped. They are made well, and the reds, especially are bold and complex. This place is stunning. The view is amazing and the wines are nothing less. Tony was there when we visited and he was wonderful, and so much fun. Just hearing Tony talk about food and wine parings had me craving all sorts of foods. No pretentiousness here in the visit nor the wines. We had a picnic on the deck and were utterly relaxed. This winery started off as a great experience. I came here with some friends for my birthday and we were having a fun time. We paid for a wine tasting and were enjoying the experience when we were cut short and asked to leave. Our driver informed us that our wine server cut our tasting short because he thought we were all too tipsy. It was our 2nd stop for the day and we hadn't been drinking that much. I noticed that the winery wasn't happy with an impromptu visit or guests and was denying anyone who showed up for a wine tasting without a reservation. The winery wasn't very busy which was a surprise, as the wine was good. All in all it made for a disappointing visit, as it was our first experience with the winery and my birthday. read more

The best wine tasting experience I have ever had. We were a party of five and seated out on a beautiful patio area. Our host, Colin, not only poured our wine, told us about them, but also shared wonderful stories of the wine, the area and of his Scotland birthplace. By the time we left, we had tasted some of the finest wines in the area and felt we had made a new friend. If you are trying to go to many wineries and want 3-4 pours and move on, don't bother to go to Passalacqua. This is for wine sipping and leisurely tasting. I've been here a few times now mainly with Wine Club members, and it's a very nice property. Since they only waive the tasting fee for Wine Club members or if you spend $150 on wine, I'm not as inclined to return unless I'm with a Wine Club member. That being said, the wines are really nice and it's possible to reserve the outdoor tables and bring in your own gourmet picnic. We were here on a weekday and the place was empty. They do a great zin here. The tasting room staff was very friendly and spent a ton of time with us. Overall it's very nice and you'll enjoy yourself here, but there isn't anything too special about the place. Go here for the wine, if you think it is what you're after. read more

The gardens here are lovely, I highly recommend taking a picnic lunch and spending an hour or two just enjoying the breeze and the sounds of the waterfulls nearby. The wine was nice and drinkable and the tasting room staff were great fun! read more

I would get married here if I could! What a wonderful place. Our innkeepers suggested that we (the BF and I) pick up a picnic lunch at the Dry Creek General Store and then sit out at Passalacqua's gazebos in their gardens. I went here on the Winter Wineland tour this year, and it was certainly memorable. The people were really nice, and the scenery was gorgeous also...not like any of the wineries weren't. I had so many freaking zins from the Dry Creek Valley, It's hard for me to remember which ones were my favorite. The most unique award goes to Passalacqua. They were doing a barrel-tasting of an '07 zin. I couldn't believe my mouth. There were no tannins at all. I didn't understand how that could be. Apparently the wine-maker calls it a "zinot" because the skins on those particular grapes are very thin due to the cool micro-climate in which it grows. Memorable. I ended up purchasing their '04 cab, though, because as soon as I tasted it, I envisioned diving into a charred ribeye. The ribeye tends to be my favorite cut of meat, so I had to get it due to that fact alone. It was pretty tannic, but that's where the ribeye comes in, to stand up to that nature. read more

Passalacqua was a suggestion from T. at Simi, and we never would have stopped here if it weren't for him. Thank goodness for Sonoma Valley friendliness. I immediately gravitated towards the two Zins, one dark and peppery, the other light and fruity with a hint of oregano. I ended up purchasing the latter. When it came time to drink my bottle at home, I died over every sip and every glass. Truly a wonderful wine. My co-adventurer purchased a bottle of the Sav Blanc, which was very grassy and bright. I'm not a Sav Blanc fan, and there was a note of bitterness to this one, but she liked it enough to buy. The service was subdued and without pressure. The grounds were tasteful. All in all, a pleasant experience. read more

We have been here many times as we have enjoyed their wines, especially the Zinfandels; we will never go back! As soon was we walked into the tasting room a gentleman walks in rather rudely and tells us they no longer allow children on their grounds, "we feel it should be an adult experience." This winery was recommended by Lambert. The wine was fantastic. However, each pour in our party of six was the smallest any of us had ever seen at any winery ever. The tasting was $35 each for a flight of 4 or maybe 5. There was a choice between Cab or Zin. Probably a good idea to put umbrellas on the deck as the tree constantly shed on us and into the glasses. Our server mentioned that happens all the time so it's odd they don't do something about it. Server was knowledgeable about the history and wines. But we felt the tasting fee was way too high for not even the equivalent of one glass of wine. They don't sell wine by the glass so buying a whole bottle to stay on the deck is your only option. Is was so odd that our server offered one more "pour" and invited to stay as long as we wanted and then gave us the tiny little splash that was the same less than 1 ounce as the other pours. That doesn't really contribute to the wish to stay a while. No wine club for us. read more

This place is worth the stop. Great selection of still wines. Our wine expert was extremely knowledgable. You have to try the cabs one word Amazing. Forgot to ask if they allow picnicking , should check into this because of the great patio space with beautiful views. I'm a local, and when friends from out of town come to Healdsburg, I invariably take them wine tasting, giving them the local's tour of the places worth visiting. Passalacqua Winery used to be on that list, until my last visit. I planned a picnic on their deck, with a bottle of their Sauv Blanc. For the record, their wines are very nice. We found all the large tables empty, but with a reserved sign on them. I asked the tasting room attendant who simply told us "Yes, they're reserved", offering no explanation or help. Five of us crowded onto a perimeter table designed for two. We bought wine and picnicked there for an hour. Nobody sat at the reserved tables. I could only imagine they were reserved for wine club members. Lured by the benches and tables in the gardens below, we ventured to the path and were met with a sign reading "The gardens may be enjoyed by our wine club members". Nobody was in the garden. Although not a wine club member, my patience had been pushed too far already, so I led my group past the sign and we enjoyed the gardens for 15 minutes before leaving. Nobody else entered, and nobody was at the reserved tables when we were gone. Passalacqua family, I'm sorry to say I won't be bringing friends to your winery anymore, and after feeling so second-class, I definitely won't be joining your wine club to improve my status with you. It's sad to me because it was all so unnecessary. read more

We loved this family winery. Tony hooked us up with great wines and some local history. We did the signature tasting, but since it was a pretty quiet day, he poured us some of the wine club exclusives, which of course were "sold out" and "available for wine club members only" anyway. We lamented. He magically pulled out a bottle each of the 2012 Cyprus Ridge Zin and the Sangiovese. We rejoiced. Can't wait to enjoy those bottles soon! read more

I really liked many of their reds. Even the wines I wasn't a big fan of were, objectively, pretty good. The staff is very helpful, and the tasting room is quite nice. I'm not a big wine country picnic guy, but the grounds are perfect for it if you're so inclined. read more

This winery is in a beautiful setting. We decided on the Reserve tasting at $20 since it was the last winery of the day. I enjoyed the wine but was disappointed that a $56 bottle of a family red was substituted (after we paid) with a $27 Zin. I wish they would have disclosed it before we paid. We probably would have still gone for it but it just didn't feel right to me, especially how it was positioned. Like we are doing you this great favor by having you try this Zin. Anyhow, I got over it. I loved the Reserve Cab and wanted to buy a bottle but the guy totally ignored me. I can get great wine in other places and opted for that option. So the wine is great but some of the people who work there were not my favorites. read more

This was our most favorite winery we went to the entire weekend. The estate vine zin was our fav, a must buy. The pourers and staff at Passalacqua were so much friendlier and so much more down to earth than at any of the other wineries we went to. Very knowledgeable. We received a full history of the zin grape all the way back to Germany. $5 per tasting. There's a variety of wines to choose from. None of the wines are sold in stores or restaurants so you need to go check it out for yourself. read more

Passalacqua has a very beautiful property with lots of great little sitting areas. There were two of us so we did one regular tasting ($5) and one reserve tasting ($10) and tried all of the wines. Many of the wines were quite good though I did prefer their reds over their whites. The prices range from about $25 to $60 or so for the wines on the tasting menu. We bought an 03 cab that was $45 and the Russian River Zin which was $27. There's a $60 one also that comes from grapes in a certain section on the vineyard that was also quite good, but a little steep for my price range. Passalacqua is worth a visit-- good wine, a good space, and good people there. read more

10/11/15: Because we had decided to have a day of spontaneous wine tasting, we showed up without a reservation. Luckily, there was an opening in their schedule, otherwise we would not have been able to sample the amazing wines that they make. Everyone who worked at the winery was extremely pleasant, and all of the wines that we tasted were delicious. We walked out with six bottles (the estate wine was our absolute favorite, but the 2008 cab was also a winner), and will definitely be making a reservation for a return trip. Update from 2017: So, my original review of this place was great. So great, that we became wine club members, and continuously purchased many more bottles than our membership required. The problem came when I asked to attend a Private Access event to see if I wanted to expand my wine club membership to their exclusive Cabernet allocations. Not only did I have to follow up with them three times to see if my party had been included in their event (where we ended up buying a case plus of wine), but on the third call to see what the status was for the event, I was told that my account had to be looked at to see if my purchase history was "good enough" to be included in this event. The only reason why we ended up going to the event was because we loved the wine (and we had planned to attend for my wife's birthday), but we immediately ended our wine club membership and private access membership after the event because we felt that if they had to see if our purchase history was "good enough" (we were spending over $1000 a year on their wine), then we shouldn't bother spending our money there. The Private Access event also included many of the owner's friends, who enjoyed the free wine and food a bit too much, and made the event obnoxious. read more

Friend is a member and made reservation. We showed up on time with my 12 year old service dog. They seated us at a nice table all decorated with table settings/wine glasses..etc - we were happy. Then all of the sudden, we were asked to move down to a garden table at the lower deck that is dirty, not sanitized during covid and chairs literally had dirt and bird crap on it. It was apparent that they saw my service dog and didn't like the having dog at the top deck. Then they lied when we confronted the server. She responded "um, we just had another reservation..umm we are just busy..Um yeah maybe it's bc of the dog and I'll ask my manager to speak with you". So one, this winery bluntly discriminated people with service dog then they lied about it. No thank you, I will not spend a single penny at such a place with this type of culture and service no matter how great the wine. Have been coming to healdsburg for 15+ years, this is the first time we have been treated with disrespect at a winery. Lambert Bridge and Dry Creek and many other great wineries are wonderful and dog friendly. If you are a dog lover or have a service dog, do not support this business. read more

This is one of our favorite wineries to visit, and we joined their club after our first time stopping in. While we are most wowed by their zins, we actually like just about everything here - including the whites - and that is rare. The people working in the tasting room are very friendly and knowledgeable, and although we've only been there 3 or 4 times we've seen the owner twice, the last time he was out making pizzas for everyone in their outdoor pizza oven during the holiday open house. This is a very scenic spot with nice views, and we very much enjoy the hillside sitting areas reserved for club members. One day we hope to go back for one of their summer pizza parties, the pizza they served up during the open house was amazing, and made with fresh mushrooms that they'd just picked in the area. read more

I like this place. It has a different kind of vibe there. It is small, unique, homey, cozy and has country feel to it. Its back deck has a beautiful view and its little garden area is nice as well. The staff there are friendly and very knowledgable. However, it can get very crowded on a big event weekend. Now, let us talk about its wines. Its Zin is very good. You can taste the slight differences between the different Zins that they have. But I am not sure the price is justified since there are so many good Zins in the dry creek area. But personally, I would put it on the top 3 wineries in the dry creek area as far as zin goes (with Talty and Wilson as the other 2). If you like Zin, you should stop there and go for a taste. read more
