If you need substitutions or ommissions like no glaze on the Sprouts make sure to repeat it whether it is dine in or take out as in the past things have gotten lost in the shuffle of ordering and I received entrées without the tweaks I needed. First Timers, had a beautiful day, patio was a nice respite from the more crowded interior. Started with the calamari, which was much too breaded for me, but they were going for crunchy, so I get it. Portion was the minimal for $18. Mushroom brick oven pizza next. Very flavorful, generous mushrooms, nice. The crust is the chewy doughy version, not of our preference. This is a great choice for kids and I would imagine they can make a cheese only version to please. Ours was $18. Lastly, we had the Rigatoni Pomodoro. Homemade pasta, unfortunately over cooked. Small portion for $18. Sauce was light, and would have liked much more fresh basil leaves. Wine pours are typical, my draft Peroni was cold and a good pour @$7. Service was polite, attentive, a bit rushed, but respectful. Atmosphere had that more modern corporate-run feel. Overall, it's a pleasant place to visit with typical flavoring for what we sampled, (always subjective with varying palettes.). Wasn't overly impressed. Prices are not low, but not crazy either. We were disappointed in the vodka sauce, it was SO HOT. Both my friend and I had to return our meals, they were not able to be eaten. When we told our waitress (who was very nice) she said that the whole batch was made so we'd have to have a different sauce. When she brought our new food (much smaller portions) she said they had many people comment about the sauce. Unsure why they'd keep serving it. I would not necessarily go back after this experience. Caught us unawares last summer. Service is solid, food is very good but fewer "traditional" Italian items than some May want. This is our "go to". We were delighted that we could get into Passero last evening without a reservation. (Note: HAVE A RESERVATION) From being greeted by our server Amelia we knew we were going to enjoy ourselves. The handcrafted cocktails are wonderful! I had the tequila with the blackberry and local ginger beer and hubby had the old fashioned. We had tempura cauliflower based on Amelia's recommendation. First let me say Crystal is the best. Went there with my mother-in -law. She is using a walker and a truck was blocking the entrance so I couldn't get her in. Crystal went outside told the trucker to move and gave us her spot in front. Then she helped us inside even though she had no jacket on and it was cold outside. The food was very good and price fairly for the area. Crystal came over repeatedly to make sure all was ok and gave my MIL special attention and handed her a business card and told her to call her next time she came in and she would make sure she was there to help. I'm leaving 3 stars, but it would unfair not to explain why. Let's start with my date's meal. It was served burned on the bottom. I pointed it out, to the waiter. He started to explain it, realized he was off base, and immediately said he would take care of it. Her meal was quickly replaced and the new meal was properly prepared. Shortly later a manager type stopped by to tell me that my date's meal was comped. The entire situation was handled quickly and professionally and I was truly impressed. By the way, my date enjoyed her replacement meal. This part of our meal warranted 5 stars, in spite of its initial glitch. My meal was another story. I ordered the short ribs and it was also delicious, as were the accompaniments. However, I used the word, "it", because I was served one rib. Now, the reality is, that I'm a small eater so I'm really curious how the chef (who has never met me) knew that one rib would be enough for me. Maybe he (or she) thinks 1 rib should be enough for anyone to eat. Now I don't mean to be picky, but the menu referred to the meal as short ribs, so there is that teeny problem of that little "s" dangling at the end of the word, "rib". Of course, the option would have been to delete the "s" and describe the meal in its singular form as "a short rib" So how should I rate my meal? I dunno. Good food, but teeny portion. I gave it 1 star. So there you go. 5 stars for my date's meal and 1 star for my meal. Adds up to 6, divided by 2 and voila! I came up with my average of 3 stars. read more

I've been meaning to try Passero for a while, so we decided to go for my daughter's birthday dinner. We made a reservation and still waited about 15 minutes for our table. The space is nice, and it was packed on a Friday night. The music was a little loud...slightly difficult for these 40-something's to hear everything. The staff were all pleasant and my cocktail was nice. The kids liked their pizza and pasta. My ONLY complaint would be that the food that seemed like a lighter choice felt heavy. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was great except the sprouts were soaked with oil...like all I tasted was oil. I realize you need it to char nicely, but they could have achieved that with less. I ordered a nice piece of fish, which I knew was crusted, but it just tasted very heavy and was definitely cooked longer than it needed to be. It kind of felt like slightly elevated wedding food. Felt that the Chicken Parmesan was re-battered and re-fried.The breading was extremely thick and hard to chew! My husband said his entree was not good either. We were not offered a bread basket. A suburban gem! My friend lives above Passero and we were very excited when it opened. Went for dinner a few months ago.. apps were delicious. I remember having a great meatball and pasta is homemade. They are now open for brunch, which we tried today... AMAZING! Might say it was the best breakfast I've ever had. My friend had Benedict with homemade biscuit which was outstanding. I had a bagel sandwich and am ready to go back tomorrow haha! The bacon is super thick and the potatoes are the best I've had. Go for dinner but definitely come back for brunch! Wait staff is attentive and super friendly. I will note you have to get reservations for dinner, it is a small place and always packed.. can get noisy! Not the easiest to walk in and get a table. But that means people like it. I recently checked out this restaurant, and I must say I really enjoyed myself. The food was delicious, I loved the fact that it is in a great area of downtown Arlington Heights. Our waitress "Danielle" checked on us often, explained the menu options, had a great attitude, wonderful personality, and seemed down to earth. Our service was fast and wonderful. The Ambiance of this establishment was a absolute positive experience. I loved the stool seats and the open kitchen concept. The metra train runs by here often and my child really enjoyed seeing that. They have an outside sitting area for those who prefer sitting outside to eat. They also have a wonderful fire pit in cases of it being kinda chilly outside. I had a wonderful time and I'm sure my family and I will be back. There are many reasons Passero's deserve only a one star. Most of the staff is rude and condescending. I don't think I've ever seen their hostesses smile. It's almost like they train them to have a bad attitude. We've had better luck with them he waitstaff. The food is extremely overpriced and not worth it. Couple years ago I had a fantastic walleye dish from there but when I ordered it a month ago it was not good. Recently we ordered carry out for 4 different pizzas and were given a specific time to pick them up. When my wife showed up 5 minutes early, she discovered the pizzas had been done and for over 10 minutes. When my wife complained the staff was visibly annoyed even though my wife was very polite. When we got them home the pizzas were room temp and the taste was off. We ended up throwing them away after one or two pieces each. If you are looking for over priced sub par food from pretentious people than Paasero is your place! Much better options in downtown AH are Ttowa, Alt Thai and Magos. read more

We have been faithful Passero-goers since they opened in Arlington Heights. If you haven't tried this place yet, I don't know what you're waiting for! In my opinion, this is Arlington Height's-- and more broadly the northwestern suburb's-- best restaurant. While they offer a seasonal menu with a few staples that carry through, the quality is consistent and unparalleled. The staff is friendly and accommodating; it's evident they work hard to make sure everyone's evening is enjoyable. The atmosphere is modern and clean, but cozy. If you choose to dine here, you can't go wrong starting off with their cheesy garlic pull-apart loaf. As they say, "if you know you know." Get one of your favorite drinks while you're at it, their cocktails never disappoint. A few of my favorite main courses right now include; the Bucatini Carbonara (with the BEST bacon), the Ricotta Gnocchi (with delicious wild mushrooms), the Chicken Parmesan (you'll be sad you wasted so many $$ on that garbage they serve you at Olive Garden), and the Nice Piece of Fish (this changes seasonally, but it continues to exceed my expectations). For dessert, their chocolate peanut butter tart is fantastic. If they have it in season, you MUST TRY their cookies and milk. It sounds so simple but you don't understand when I tell you it's amazing; the milk has actual vanilla beans in it, the cookie itself is ooey-gooey yumminess, and the cookie dough on an adorable whisk is addictive!! I wish this were a staple on the dessert menu because I would eat it every chance I got. COVID-19 definitely has changed the restaurant game and the team at Passero have definitely stepped up to continue to provide amazing food while also serving the community. They didn't stop at providing delicious take-out; they went above and beyond to create family meals for carry out that I highly recommend. They're all good, but we love getting "Grandma's Table" featuring their chicken parm, and the "Northwoods Wisconsin Fish Fry" featuring the best beer battered walleye I've ever had. It's so much food for the price and it's equal to the quality of what's on their main menu. Between the family meals, the farmer's market they hosted over the summer months, the groceries they sold via their take out menu during the March lockdown (I could go on and on)-- I can tell their staff is truly committed to serving our community.
