Hands down the best Italian meal I have ever had in the states!!!!! I can not even understand how anyone couldn't give this place a 5/5! First off, this place is authentic, tiny, old school..... family and friends working hard in this joint. Came in here on Valentine's Day and it was packed! So happy we were able to get in last minute. You could see people were just happy to be here. They don't make dining like this anymore folks- truly a gem. The bread - airy, light and perfect crisp. The salad with garlic sauce- crisp, perfect temp and amazing sauce. Chicken vesuvio with side of pasta- phenomenal. Chicken ortalano- with side of stuffed gnocchi and vodka sauce - literally heaven in your mouth. Cannoli - best I've ever had in this state - lemon ice gelato - forget about it ...... this was a meal to remember. The service - top notch! Had dinner here for Mother's Day - it was busy, but our server was sweet and attentive. We ordered the seafood risotto, which was generously packed with seafood (no skimping!), but unfortunately it was so incredibly gritty that it was hard to enjoy, even though it came out hot and fresh. The fettuccine with Alfredo and chicken (both at a surcharge) was a hit with the kids, though the chicken was a bit too charred for my taste. The ambiance was cozy and homey, with a charming, family-run feel that we really appreciated. Service was fantastic. This is definitely a hidden gem in a small strip mall. Service was excellent and food was delicious and reasonably priced. The chef who I think is the owner comes by to say hello. My friend and I started out with an appetizer, grilled octopus, calamari, and shrimp. We could've made a meal out of that. I ordered mini braciole but they were definitely not mini. I could only eat one and brought the rest home. The dinner came with soup or salad, pasta, and fresh green beans. I had the minestrone and it was very good. For dessert, I had a decaf cappuccino which came piping hot which is how I like it and delicious homemade tiramisu. I had a 5 o'clock reservation and by 6:30. The restaurant was completely full. A local and authentic Italian spot! The food was delicious and very authentic. We went on Sunday early evening and it was packed. They are definitely understaffed as there were only two servers for the entire restaurant. We ordered linguine with mussels but we got linguine with clams. Such a gem of a restaurant with an old school Italian feel. In junior high/high school, we came here because my dad was a doctor at the hospital down the street. Joe and Giuseppe's is such a great place with comfort food that remind you of family values and home. My dad is an immigrant from Italy and I was raised by my very proud Italian American family. We always felt welcome here and would have small events (like a birthday or celebration) here. The staff and owners were so lovely to us and I have nothing but great things to say! We always ate in and I suggest anyone passing through Arlington Heights or Mount Prospect stop in. You will enjoy the food and the ambiance so much! read more

We wanted to love this restaurant based on some reviews, but if you're looking for actual authentic Italian food this establishment doesn't hit the mark. The menu looks like it should, with wonderful sounding dishes listed, but the food was really subpar Italian. Someone needs to go back to Italy to be retrained. The pasta sauce resembled cream of tomato soup and was honestly flavorless. A chicken dish tasted as tho it had been cooked ahead, assembled and reheated. Seafood came out swimming in an unrecognizable sauce or gravy. No one in our party enjoyed their dinners...leftovers were tossed. The server was extremely personable and very attentive...our two stars are for her. We will not be returning. read more

I found this cute little restaurant with decent reviews. It is located in a strip mall with surrounding businesses. We were greeted and seated right away. The staff was very nice. I ordered the Linguine with Calamari with red sauce, and my daughter had the white sauce. I prefer the white sauce. The red sauce was too sweet for me. My husband had the Mini Braciole. He liked it. I thought it was overly sweet. We also ordered the grilled Calamari, which had a nice char, but I recommend squeezing lemon on top for more flavor. My daughter had the fettuccine Alfredo, which she was not impressed with. Overall, it wasn't for me, but I can see how others may like it. Ingredients are fresh, and portions are large. read more

We came here when we realized a restaurant down the street was strictly carry out. Service started out good, but it did not remain that way. Items were forgotten salad dressing was never brought out even though the server said she would, the food came out very slowly despite not being busy yet, a coffee was ordered and not brought out until we were about to leave. Way after dessert was eaten. The food was a little underwhelming for half the table. My chicken parm was very soggy and the meat was on the spongy side. The chicken vesuvio had the same issue plus it was swimming in sauce. The plate presentation was not the best and there was a total of 4 small potatoes on the plate. On the positive the bread was fresh and the minestrone soup was good. Cannoli was also good as well. The ravioli and gnocchi I was told was on point. This restaurant has been around for years and still has the old world charm. Over the years we have eaten here several times. This time we stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon and only a few tables were occupied., but several filled up in a few minutes. There was only one waitress , and while she tried to do her best, service was not great. We immediately were served hot bread, so delicious. Entrees include soup or salad, we opted for the salads. I had eggplant parmesan with a side of pasta. My husband had the shrimp pasta. The portions were large, we had leftovers to take home. The owner stopped by to see how everything was. We held a private wedding shower for 50 people on a recent Sunday afternoon. It was a wonderful party, and the layout and food was prepared with love by the owner and presented by wonderful servers who made the party a great success. Visited here on a Thursday night. It's a small place- walked in and there were a few tables with parties. We waited maybe 5 min for a table. Sat down, and got free delicious bread. We had to wait a few minutes for menus, but once we got them there were so many delicious options to choose from. Ended up starting out with bruschetta which was loaded with tomatoes. If you love tomatoes, then this is for you! For entrees, went with baked mostaccioli with a side of meatballs, chicken piccante that came with a side of noodles. Both entrees came with soup or salad (not pictured). FYI the minestrone soup is delicious, not your typical minestrone soup but still tasty. I am going to start my review with a definition and a disclaimer. First, I am defining a "homie" as an ethnic person who goes to a restaurant for the same ethnic foods. So, a Chinese person in a Chinese restaurant; a Japanese person in a Japanese restaurant; and an Italian person in an Italian restaurant are all "homies". The implication is that the food being served strongly exceeds the expectations of the people of that region. The food is judged excellent by the local people who ought to know. This restaurant was PACKED with homies. My disclaimer: I am not Italian. This is a cute mon-and-pop restaurant. They are clean, friendly and care about your dining experience. I hope you support them. The food was well prepared and served at the proper temperature in a timely manner. This is where my not being Italian comes into play. The food was not seasoned as I have come to expect Italian food to be. The marinara sauce on the veal parm AND the Bolognese sauce on the angel hair did not have have any visible herbs in them. I saw no oregano, basil, etc. If they were there, then they were well blended into the rich sauce. The dishes were not served with extra parm on the side. They were delicate red sauces that seemed to me to appeal to a more gentle palate than mine. There was plenty of warm Italian bread, though. If this regional style of Italian fare rocks your boat, then please enjoy! I would love to see this restaurant thrive. Unfortunately, this is just not my style. I gave it a good rating and my own preference should not dissuade anyone from dining here. Make a reservation for the weekends because they have a small dining room, and a lot of regular customers, because the food is good. Our first time, so we tried the calamari, shrimp, octopus sautéed. It was okay. And we had the lasagna and it was cheesy and good. I had the veal portofino and the sauce is very tasty and the veal was tender. I ordered it again. We had a glass of house red wine and it was good. And the bread was crusty and yummy!!! You can tell, I love bread. It's sort of far out for us to travel to, so I don't think we would go often BUT we will go back. Oh, we had the cannoli ( it was ok), and their tiramisu was very good. I'm still thinking about the minestrone I had here. Fresh and homemade in all the good ways; throw in some parmesan, and I was on cloud nine. Even the bread was amazing (some bread, olive oil and cheese, and a great way to start the meal). The vesuvios are great here. And the fish is pretty good too. The place is cozy and has an old school feel. It feels like you're getting a home cooked meal. We dined at Joe & Giuseppe last night with our family. My wife and I had been to the original restaurant in Glenview 30+ years ago. We were told this location has been open 20+ years. It is off the beaten path but well worth it. The food was excellent and everyone at our table was very happy with their entrees (including veal, chicken, fish and pasta). Our waitress came out apologetically before our soup/salad and told us our food had just come up. She asked our preference and we said we would have the food while it was hot. She still brought soup for those who wanted it and sent us home with a big container of soup which we will enjoy today!) The most special part of the evening was the service. Our server (whose name I do not know) helped us celebrate a very special family moment in a way that helped one of my children feel joy and acceptance. I won't say more than that but, in this world where people can be cruel and demeaning, her reaction and celebration with us is one I will forever be grateful for. It was one of those genuine, unrehearsed moments that reflects who someone truly is. The chef's wife, Marge visited our table towards the end of the evening, and we found her to be very pleasant and friendly and enjoyed the conversation. We felt the same of her husband Pasquale, who also came to visit and even posed for a picture before we left. This restaurant is definitely worth the trip. It won't be the fanciest or the most expensive Italian restaurant you visit and that's the point. It's a family owned and run, down to earth, good food, warm and exceptional service kind of place.
