I tried La Zingara a few months ago and I've been back several times! It is not your typical Italian pasta restaurant menu-they have so much more!! The specials menu changes weekly-and honestly it's some of the best seafood I've had. Everything is super fresh from the main to the veggies. La Zingara is a cute little restaurant with plenty of lot parking. It is wheelchair friendly as long as someone holds the two entry doors open for you. Early dinners are best as the restaurant started to fill up about 6:30. There is also little bar inside and locals seem to enjoy sitting and the bar area and talk. There are mostly four top tables and a few booth seating areas. The service was excellent. I ordered the Branzino special and mozzarella stuffed zucchini. Both were served hot. The appetizer was cooked well and flavorful with delicious oozy gooey mozzarella inside of the zucchini wheels. The branzino aka sea bass was perfectly cooked served with skinside down. The fish had a few tiny bones which is to be expected. The skin should have been a bit crisper and the fish needed a little more seasoning but still very good. My husband had the cheese pizza which he liked. The Aperol spritz I ordered was excellent. The prices are good and less than I have paid for sea bass at other restaurants. Cozy and quaint family restaurant that provides homey Italian food. We got the mussels and calamari to starts. Both appetizers were good. Mussels were smalls and over steamed. My husband got the lasagna. It was saucy with plenty of meat but overly salty. I got the saltimboco alla roma. I enjoyed the prosciutto and the mashed potatoes in my dish. Our server was great. First timer here. We came for a birthday party about 20 people. They accommodated our party in the main dining area. It looked like they also have a private party area which was in use. They start you off with some rolls on the house with oil and parmesan. Then I order an old fashion. It was strong just how I like it. Then we ordered calamari. The calamari had a thin layer of batter which was great, the squid was cooked just right. Then I order the Lasagna and it came with minestrone soup. The soup was delicious. Lasagna came in a good portion. The meat sauce was delicious but was little salty. I took some home and ate it the next day and it tasted pretty good definitely not as salty. Then I tried Ravioli Di Aragosta. That was definitely the best thing I had. House made ravioli filled with lobster and topped with shrimp. The sauce was epic. Highly recommend this dish. The food was inedible. Do not order the calamari or octopus dishes. Could not even cut it with a steak knife. The vegetable medley was mushy and the skin on the eggplant was tough and also inedible. The minestrone soup was not minestrone. It was carrots celery and onion in a mild broth. No beans? No flavor. No little pastas. I was so disappointed. The service was okay. Ordered the fusilli, which was ok but kinda doughy and super bland. Had to put tons of salt to it. Husband ordered the chicken alfredo- also very bland and difficult to eat. Another person in our party ordered the gluten free pasta which also had no flavor. The caesar salad was rather underwhelming and unsavory. Rather expensive also - almost $100 for 3 unflavorful meals. it was disappointing that they also do a completely electronic charge to the card and they calculate tip with tax included - we don't tip on tax. Not cool. Both me and my husband felt rather unwell too after our meals. Definitely will not go back. Great food and service. We love having a wonderful Italian restaurant near our home. They were very accommodating for our large group.

Ordered the Veal Saltimbocca the presentation was nice however that was the best of it. The Veal was pounded so thin it was virtually translucent. It came with mashed potatoes and veggies which were the best part of the dish. I wish the dish had the traditional flavor punch I was looking for unfortunately it fell very short. For dessert we shared the Lemoncello Cake...unfortunately the white chocolate overwhelmed the cake and the lemon was completely lost. The White Chocolate also left a waxiness on the tongue. read more

The chicken vesuvio was just ok, the chicken Marsala was good, the sausage and peppers was really good, but would have liked red, yellow or orange peppers instead of the green peppers. When selecting a main course, I have lots of favorites on their menu (Vivace Pizza, Chicken Parm, and their Ai Pomidori Secchi & Formaggio -Pink Pasta with SunDried Tomatoes and Goat Cheese). One of the few places in the suburbs offering igloo/greenhouse outdoor dining option. I honestly liked this better than the restaurant I went to in downtown Chicago for the greenhouse dining experience. It was much warmer at La Zingara Trattoria's greenhouse and cozier. Our service was excellent, and the food great as well! We shared a bottle of pinot noir and a shrimp appetizer. The shrimp appetizer was tiny - there were 4 pieces. Tasty, but tiny. We all ordered the same entree as recommended by the waiter - the salmon. The salmon was very delicious and cooked flavorfully. We had a tiramisu for dessert, which was rich and delectable. Be careful when ordering the expensive steak to ask for separate plate from anything else i.e. peppers.  I had to leave mine there as it was soaked in hot spicy juice.  Couldn't taste steak tho cooked very tender.  No refund or replacement, just said I should have said no peppers when I only ordered steak and potatoes. Disappointing & bad night of gastro from severe allergy to peppers.  There was no warning & it wouldn't occur to me that anything hot would be put with a delicate steak's flavor.   Staff nice though owners retired.  New decor is lovely. read more

I'm Italian so it's hard to beat my mom & Grandmas cooking but they came very close. Loved the bread basket served with garlic knots, and small pizza pieces - along with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. My daughter had peppers and sausage and the sauce was delicious. My sister had an eggplant dish which was very good as well. We ordered bruschetta and zucchini fries to share. My daughter's dish was plenty so we shared that as well. We ordered through Doordash. We ordered Gamberi alla Ferri, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and Pecorina alla Romana. The Tagliatelle was really good and a pretty large portion. The Gamberi alla Ferri (6 medium sized shrimp) and Pecorina alla Romana (4 small slices of eggplant) were very small portions and pretty expensive for what we got. The Gamberi was served over sautéed spinach with some red peppers thrown in. There was no red pepper sauce. While some of the dishes tasted good, I wouldn't order again because of the small portions and expensive prices. read more

First to start - I have lived in Italy twice for a total of 9 years. The owner was at the bar and the waitress as well, I guess they can't even afford a separate waitress. I had a dirty martini and it was fine. I ordered the mussels in garlic and white wine sauce. 12 mussels (that's it) for $15. When I looked , technically it was executed correctly, but there was so much salt in the broth it tasted like the Dead Sea had been poured into it. I told her it was salty and over seasoned , no idea if she gave the chef any feedback. Then onto the tagliatelle bolognese- I know how to make a Bolognese sauce from scratch, it's not rocket science. Again look executed well and - this was under seasoned, bland , raw carrots and no crush tomatoes or sauce, just chunks of tomato. I ate about a quarter of it and couldn't take it anymore. 2 things were obvious- this was not an Italian cook, and he didn't taste the food before it went out. I took the leftovers and threw them in the trash. I was hoping for a great experience but it was absolutely terrible. You will never catch me stepping foot in there again. read more

I originally found this restaurant because I was craving some good Ravioli and the other Italian restaurants near by me didn't have any. Wow! The Ravioli was outstanding. It was creamy, pasta was cooked perfectly, and they has artichoke hearts (which I absolutely love). I saw pictures of the thin pizza online and I wasn't sold on it, so I instead tried their Stuffed Pizza and boy was I glad that I did. Pizza was cooked perfectly, it wasn't soggy (as sometimes Stuffed Pizza gets when you add too many ingredients), and the sauce to cheese & crust ratio was on spot. We came in on a promo through Lolo. What a great surprise! It was a Saturday night, and we weren't sure how busy this would be, or if we could get in. We were able to get a table at 6, which was perfect. We came in, were warmly welcomed, and seated at a nice table along the wall. A musician was playing guitar, and the music selections were perfect for dinner. Our server, Antonio, was attentive, friendly, and always on with refills or requests. The food was made fresh and hot, and flavors very nice for each dish and app. This is a restaurant passed often as we drive by, and never really knew about. Only issue was the managers. They excessively kept checking on us. I appreciate it once maybe. But it's 3-4 times. The server had it handled and was very attentive.
