It was a great dinner experience overall:) The music is a bit loud and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hear/participate in our group conversation. But I managed. Food and service was good:) I definitely want to make another dinner visit or maybe lunch where I can sit outside. The vibe here seems to be kinda hip. Good for drinks before your next stop. I also noticed the Metra about a block or two away. What a great location!

I had family in town for the holidays and we're looking for a last-minute place to go and I have not been to this location in about seven years and we were feeling sushi so we were able to secure a reservation. There were people at the restaurant, but it was not super crowded so when we ordered our drinks, it took quite a long time to get the first round so we're a little confused about that. After our drinks, we ordered our Nigiri pieces and we waited for quite some time for those to be completed and then we thought to ourselves maybe we should've ordered all of our food together because by the time we get our rolls, it will be like 10 PM at night. The pieces finally came. They were good and then a while after we got our sushi rolls that we ordered for our entrée. They were also very good. The best one was the one that I posted in the pictures. I forgot what it was called, but it was a spicy roll of some sort. The service was slow, but our server was also very nice. The drinks were so so but the price point for the drinks was not bad so I'll give them that. It always looks very nice. Inside in the room is well lit. It's not super dark but it's not super light so it's a nice little date night spot. I would suggest going when it's not busy if you don't wanna wait five hours for your food.

Another fantastic spot in downtown Arlington Heights! I loved Shakou! Everything about it was 5/5 without a doubt. The atmosphere was awesome and very different from other sushi places(at least ones I've been to). Four of us came here for dinner on a Friday and the place was buzzing. It's very modern and beautiful. It was dark for dinner service and the music was similar to music you'd hear in a club. Perfect for a Friday night! A very fun and upbeat vibe. The service was great from the start. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I ordered the Urban Heat signature maki rolls and they were incredible! If you like your rolls spicy, you'll love them! They weren't overly spicy which was great. My boyfriend ordered the golden lobster signature maki rolls. The lobster tempura was delicious and paired perfectly with the other ingredients. I tried one and wanted more! I'll be ordering those next time I'm here. Everyone at our table ordered a side of fried rice and loved it. Some places have memorable fried rice and Shakou is one of them. It's definitely worth ordering it with your dinner! My brother ordered egg rolls as an appetizer and those were great too. They had so much flavor and were easy to eat. Shakou also has a really nice drink menu. We all found a cocktail that we really liked. I ordered the blackberry mojito and it was sweet and refreshing. I highly recommend dining here, especially if you're a sushi fanatic like myself!

Let me say that my friends who do not particularly fancy sushi actually came to liking it after dining in. The place is sectioned off in two areas and lighting was perfect. Not too bright that it becomes intruding and not too dim to the point where you are put to sleep. The udon had a very rich brothy taste and the tempura were fried to perfection. No complaints on the katsu either. I ordered the lychee drink and it was presently beautifully. For service, the waitress kept checking in on us every 10 minutes to ensure that our needs were met. Parking can pose a little challenge as there is practically nothing besides the public spaces a few minutes walk away.

This restaurant never disappoints. I highly recommend to do the boat option. Do chef selection. It has great atmosphere, friendly host, will come back again.

Shakou provides a modern yet classy ambiance inside and out. The interior is dimly lit with surprisingly upbeat pop music in the background. The waitress was very friendly and enthusiastically listed the various drink specials, stating that the hibiscus was made in-house, which sold me on trying the scarlet night cocktail. It was very good but exceptionally strong. Fresh would be the word to describe all the food of the night. We started off with the shrimp and vegetable tempura which was lightly battered and came with a tasty sauce. The batter did not overpower the actual food underneath which was nice. For the entrée, I had the barramundi which was sea bass cooked in parchment paper with vegetables and seasoning. Both the fish and vegetables were cooked nicely and were once again, very fresh. My friends had the salmon poke bowl and the miso ramen. I hesitantly tried the salmon as I'd never tried raw fish before. It was surprisingly not bad but was spicy and had a unique texture. All ingredients in the dish combined nicely, especially the rice. If you're looking for an affordable, high quality Japanese restaurant, you can't go wrong with Shakou.

This restaurant is truly phenomenal. Located in downtown Arlington Heights, Shakou is an elegant restaurant serving mostly Japanese food (they're known for their sushi). I've tried a lot of things on their menu, and the items I recommend most are the Dragon Fire roll, seven spicy ahi, Black Widow roll, Green Dragon roll, calamari, and their poke bowl. My favorite cocktail here is the lychee martini. Besides the food here being top-tier, the service here is also excellent. Every server I've ever had was so attentive and friendly. The manager, Gabby C, is the best, too! Shakou is perfect for all occasions - date nights, going out with friends, getting dinner with your family, birthdays, anniversaries, anything. The food here is delectable, the service is impeccable, and the place itself is so clean and luxurious. In the summertime, they have the outdoor and all the windows open, so there's even more space. The ONLY downside are the wait times because this place is always poppin', so make that reservation beforehand! All in all, if you don't go to Shakou, you're missing out!

We came here and sat on the patio to celebrate a milestone for a friend. I love the outdoor seating here. This area in Arlington Heights in the summer is my favorite! The food was amazing. I got the dragon fire roll which was spicy and fresh. Super delicious! Our waitress was so kind. She was attentive and really sweet and surprised us with the celebratory dessert. We will definitely be back!

And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. Since there was a total of 11 and the seating is first come first serve, we decided to call to see if they had reservations. They did take our name and reserved a table. When we arrived we noticed a table was reserved and we were informed that it was our table. We sat and looked over the menus. When we were ready my 2 boys and I went up to place our order. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

Both cappuccinos were very milky and not warm enough. The dessert was really good but it also took a while to get it. We were half way done with our cappuccinos. Not only is there a food court of different Japanese restaurants to try, there is also a grocery store, bakery, bookstore, and stores that sell ice cream, traditional desserts, as well as crepes and boba tea! My family and I visit here often every year and we like to try the different foods and desserts and then check out the bookstore and grocery store afterwards. My favorite foods so far have been the beef udon soup with a soft boiled egg, shrimp and vegetable tempura, miso soup, and Japanese curry with rice, beef, and vegetables (carrots and potatoes). My son always gets the chicken and beef on a stick and my daughter usually gets a garlic pork dish with white rice but I forget what this dish is called. My husband also enjoys the beef udon soup like I do. I swear that whenever my food is finished, I am legit sad! The crepes are good, there is a variety of boba teas to try, and the ice creams are delicious! Lychee has been my favorite so far but I have yet to try the matcha, red bean, among others! You can get a small sample of different ice cream flavors too, which is nice! I sampled the red bean flavor so that will be my go-to next time! At the grocery store, I love buying Happy Turn snacks which are like a sweet and salty crunchy cracker (maybe it is made of rice?) that are individually wrapped and mochi from the fridge area. Finally, I usually like to buy mochi from the store right next to the bookstore. The mochi from this location is the best! I usually buy multiple flavors to take home and eat at a later time! You must try these! My kids love checking out the bookstore and they usually pick something out for me to buy for them - whether it is a book, keychain, etc. There are magazines, anime figurines, soft plushy toys, pens, and stationary, etc. It is interesting to browse through the things they have there! You cannot bring food or drinks inside but they do have a shelf at the entrance where you can place your drink there if you like. The first time visiting here, the majority of the customers were Asians and as the years have passed, there is now more of an influx of non-Asians who simply love the food and appreciate the culture, which I think is neat! The first time I visited here was with my college roommate who was from Japan and she recommended this place back in 2009 perhaps? I have been visiting ever since with my family. We travel more than an hour from Wisconsin to come here but it is 100% worth the drive! Also, the cashiers and workers there are quick, efficient, and friendly. I have even been able to practice a few of the Japanese phrases I have learned with a couple of the cashiers too (I asked if they spoke Japanese first)! Overall, Mitsuwa is my happy place! Great food, interesting finds, different culture, and everyone there looks excited to be there. This is as close to visiting Japan as I can get until I keep learning more Japanese and save up enough money to go visit Japan someday! This is my dream! In the meantime, we will keep visiting Mitsuwa!

Around her neck was one of those little cornicello pepper necklaces, dangling just enough to suggest fate had finally decided to throw me a bone. Blue eyes. Not "blue." The kind of blue sailors used to abandon families over. She laughed at one of my jokes. That was all the encouragement my diseased brain required. I immediately conducted a full tactical assessment of the restaurant. The P.O.A. Index... ...was approaching DEFCON 1. Every direction I looked was another devastatingly attractive waitress carrying Aperol Spritzes with effortless confidence. It was like wandering into a government-funded supermodel relocation program. Then... A shadow fell across the table. A man. Our waiter was a man. Christ Almighty. The s.o.b. gave me absolutely nothing to complain about, which only deepened my resentment. The food, meanwhile, was infuriatingly good. The pizzas arrived looking like they'd been blessed by an Italian grandmother carrying unresolved anger from 1947. Thin crust. Fresh mozzarella. Just enough char to remind you that ovens are supposed to flirt with fire, not electricity. The pasta had that unmistakable handmade texture that makes Olive Garden feel like a felony. The cocktails disappeared with alarming speed. By my third Negroni, I was convinced I could hear Dean Martin narrating my life. Walking out, I glanced back toward the hostess one last time. She smiled. For approximately three seconds I considered abandoning my entire life to become a part-time sommelier with absolutely no qualifications. Then reality returned. The male waiter handed me the check. Four stars. The food was phenomenal. The cocktails were dangerous. The hostess should be classified as an Italian national treasure. And our waiter deserves a raise... despite committing the unforgivable crime of existing between me and the waitresses.
