prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich + alfajores

Today I visited Passion Pastry and was warmly welcomed by Parviz! Recently they introduced sandwiches to their menu, I decided to give the prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich a try and wow! The fresh ingredients, especially the mozzarella, really impressed me. Whenever I come here though I always have to pickup some alfajores. Definitely cannot go wrong with those. I recommend coming here! It's a hidden gem. It's a cute cafe, provides a homey feel, has a friendly stuff, and to reiterate definitely get there alfajores!

We were playing at the park across the street and were pleasantly surprised that there was an "open" sign on Black Friday! Come out and get your treats while you're out shopping. My kids loved their lemon macaron, pumpkin bread, and feta spinach croissant, along with complimentary cookies. Beautiful gift boxes with pastries and I can't wait to come back and try their drinks!

Lattes and pastries are SO yummy! My kids love the marshmallows. And they sometimes have desserts from different countries so it's always a nice time stopping in.

Quietly tucked away on the side of a strip mall anchored by a Grocery Outlet supermarket, Passion Pastry is a hidden local gem where we were lured in only by the sighting of a small chalkboard placed at the corner of the intersection leading into the shopping center. Come to find later another customer walked in also commenting that they were unaware of the bakery until they saw the same chalkboard. This bakery is run by a mom and her son. The mom is the talented baker while her well-mannered son greets customers and provides pleasant customer service. We had a chance to converse a bit while waiting for our order of the special Ham and Cheese Croissant to be warmed up. Passion Pastry originally started out as a home kitchen business in Dublin and appearing in local farmers' markets. Apparently they outgrew their home kitchen due to their popularity and found this Pleasanton spot to expand their business. We learned also that their claim to fame at these farmers' markets were home baked cookies that now they display in packed baggies along the side of the shop's wall. In the small shop, there is a small bakery case of their bakery goods and pastries. Check out the photos. We ordered their chocolate croissant as well as their beef empanada. All were delicious, perhaps on the sweeter side. What a great find on an easy Sunday morning!

OMG! I was lucky enough to discover Passion Pastry when they have set up their pop-up at Nordstrom in Walnut Creek in the past. I lucked out right before this Thanksgiving when I happened to walk by the 2nd floor escalators and found the display. I loaded up on two large gift boxes (original Alfajores and one mix sampler), a container of the Mexican Wedding cookies, a loaf of banana pecan loaf and the coconut blonde brownie. I took them to Hawaii this past Thanksgiving and presented the gift boxes and Mexican Wedding Cookies to my sister. She is an avid baker and she was thrilled with the treats. (She is recovering from surgery and was staying clear of solid food, but 'Get Well' Mexican Wedding cookies are the exception, right ? ) My favorite is the Alfajores which just literally melt in your mouth. How do you guys make them so buttery??? I kept the loaf and the brownie for myself and froze them since I would be gone for 10 days. I just toasted a couple of slices of the loaf, and despite my freezing of the loaf, they were delicious and moist. Super flavorful, and I am so happy that they kept so well. I didn't get pics of the boxed items, but I did take a couple of pics of the items I kept. My photos do not do these treats justice, but believe me, they are AMAZING. I will be ordering before I head back to Hawaii in a few weeks (it's the only thing my sister wants for Christmas!). It's a family-run business and the mom and her kids help out. This is one of those local small businesses that you need to support! Brava!

Place is going downhill quick. Use to be a regular here and always surpassed expectations. Taste and quality are going downhill. No incentive to keep coming back. Got a cake for my cousins birthday and it was dry and disappointing. Don't know what happened but hopefully it fixes soon. read more

I love Passion Pastry / Bravazo! I must admit, the only thing holding me back from writing a review is to keep the crowds away because this place is so fantastic. The owners are so kind and personable. And the food is so delicious! The breakfast burrito is a fan favorite! And I highly recommend their hot sauce. I plan to become a regular and recommend this to everyone in Pleasanton. read more

These are the best pastries! I have been buying from them for years, wether it's a pop up at Nordstrom or a local farmers market they always deliver on their A-game. The Alfajores are out of this world, and I love buying the boxed sets as gifts because they are so unique and iconic. The people operating the booth are always so friendly and helpful, it is always a delight to buy from them! read more

2.5 stars. Didn't get a chance to try their cakes which apparently is what they are best at. You have to order those ahead of time is what we discovered. Tried their small pastries instead and have to say, they were very subpar. The owner was very pleasant though. read more

I was sad when Sugarie closed and I've always loved the cookies from Passion Pastry at the farmer's market but I hadn't been to their shop before. On a whim today I called them because I needed a last minute birthday cake and not only were they able to exceed my expectations with a cake but I realized their shop has so much more (coffee, pastries, treats...)! Yummy coffee and heavenly mini-muffins (chocolate with a Nutella-y filling). I can't wait to go back and try more! As an added bonus the people who helped me were incredibly nice! read more

Everybody is raving about the alfajores. I haven't tried these yet, but we did pick up some delicious flaky pastries for breakfast. I got the spinach and feta cheese pie and my daughter chose the blueberry/cream cheese. The crust has a flaky croissant-like texture but the pastry is shaped in a rectangle. All the pastries looked fairly unassuming, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Safeway (or Whole Foods for that matter) day-old pastries they were not. These were delicate, fresh, and delicious. The filling for both was light and not overpowering. We look forward to trying more. Maybe a dulce de leche cake? read more

Heard about Passion Pasrty through Nextdoor and decided to take a leap of faith and ordered my husbands birthday cake through them. For the past 24 years we have always done our cakes through Bijan bakery in San Jose. I met Sofia and parviz on my visit to their shop in Pleasanton. Sofia asked what I like and she made suggestions. She is truly an artist and the cake was just perfect. Very moist and absolutely delicious. I know we won't be going all the way to San Jose when we have this beautiful gem right here in Ptown. read more

Have enjoyed many items from this local bakery. First time trying their lemon bars. Meh, more like lemon bars with lots of filers like corn syrup. Not tart & tasty lemon bars with natural ingredients. First fail for passion pastry so far. Lots of other good stuff. read more

Loved their alfajores cookies. Cookie is buttery and flaky. Filling not overly sweet. At Christmas time I was in a pinch and needed a gift, I called them and they had 1 box left and I was able to purchase it from her house. Normally they sell at farmer's markets and I've seen them at Retzlaff's Winery a few times. Their other cookies are good too, but the alfajores are by far my favorite. read more

I first got introduced to passion pastry at the Dublin farmer's market 4 years ago. The first thing I tried was their alfajores cookies. They were so good that I went back every week to get a pack and recommended the place to all my friends and family. After they opened their pastry shop I started ordering their cakes. The vanilla dolche de leche cake was a huge hit at my son's birthday party. It's so moist and flavorful that every one kept raving about it. The owner is very nice and kind. I was ordering a cake one time on a short notice and despite having many orders she agreed on making it. I highly recommend this place! read more

I tried Sofia's cakes for the first time this month as I was hosting a baby shower. I waited until the last minute and she was the only baker available. I requested a 2 tier dolce-de lece cake to feed 90 guests. I must tell you the guests and I were blown away. The cake not more beautiful than I imagined it would be but it tasted incredible. It was moist, light, and full of flavor! I have a family full of chef's, one is a pastery chef for a 5star rest. in SF and even she was blown away by how good Sofia's cake was. I dont like cake and I had seconds. This was the only function I have held or been to where guests requested more. We had no left overs. Sofia will be my go to for every function I host from now on. seniorita was passing out samples of alfajores and mexican wedding cakes in small cubes locale: san ramon farmers market 4/14 eats alfajores (8/$7) similiar to the other southern american one but smaller. -melt in your mouth cake-like confection, slight aftertaste. sodium bicarbonate? disodium phospate?. crumbs: -thought the other alfajores (argentine) was more natural. didn't remember the aftertaste. read more

This is a bakery that has been a part of farmers markets in the area and particularly Pleasanton. Sofia is a pastry chef trained in Guadalajara and makes exquisite cakes and delicious cookies. Had some of their Mexican Wedding Cookies and Alfajores at Sunday's Jack London Square farmer's market. The man running the stand is really friendly and generous with the samples. And I am glad he was, because it led me to buy a combo pack. It is now taking every ounce of my willpower to not eat every single one of them! Seriously - check them out. They are delicious and fresh. They're also packaged so nicely that they can be brought to a dinner or party as a gift. And they are nice people who feel good to do business with. I tried the alfajore at the Pleasanton farmers market and I can just say that it MELTS in your mouth, it is so good that I bought 2 boxes of the alfajores and my family finished 2 hours after I got home. Not only are the cookies amazing but the customer service is amazing, there was a young man selling and he was professional, helpful and cheerful. I wasn't too sure if I was going to buy anything when I entered the stand but when the salesman pulled out a cute tiny alfajore sample I couldn't say no. after I tried it I was hooked. I have been crazy about these cookies ever since I tried them and I will be coming by every week. read more

I cannot describe the taste and quality of the baked goods here. It is top notch and absolutely delicious. The prompt service and detailed touch we get is bar none. I have been the lucky recipient to sample Sofias cakes, cookies and pastries many times. Sofias baking and decorating/art work are as good as it gets. My wife attended a baby shower catered by Sofia that had fabulous gelatins, a sculptural cake and cookies displayed. It is hard to eat her goodies when they are a beautiful work of art, but nevertheless they got eaten and muy delicioso! read more

OMG, Sofia's Cookies are to die for, they are so darn good. Only once you pop , you just can't stop which is not good for jeans size but hey YOLO. Honestly I think if you get a chance you must try them at least once. Anyone that knows me knows my last meal in life would consist of Berry Pie for dessert. I look and there it is a Mixed Berry. I turn and ask the lady after she was done with her customer how much for this delight? She said it's $24. Without question I grabbed said pie, and went to the register. I told her that Berry is my favorite, and she went on to say that every Friday is Pie Day. She also mentioned that if I ever needed anything in particular, I could call ahead. She could have it prepared for me. Wonderful lady and beautiful service. Might I add that a pie of this weight and stature normally runs about $35 even $40 in some places. We had a slice the next day because I could not bear it any longer. Without lie this is the best pie I've had in years!!!! Years or even perhaps ever. It has to be realized that if there is Berry Pie of any kind on the menu it will be ordered even to go. There were actual whole berries, and it was not full of sugar like some pies. You can taste the natural fruit of summer, and the crust was perfection!!!! Now I have to wait for a Birthday to order a cake. I'm sure it will be divine! I could take a pic of pie now but it's partially gone. Not so picturesque.

We got the buttercream bread, sweet rice donut, chocolate cloud cake, milk cornet, and the strawberry milk bread. For drinks we got the red velvet hot cocoa and the caramel macchiato. The buttercream bread was my absolute favorite out of the bunch. The butter cream wasn't too sweet and the bread was sooo soft. The ratio of cream to bread was just right, so each bite of bread had a sweet balance of the fluffy cream. The sweet rice donut was okay. To be, it could have been more softer, but it was expected for it to go stale a little bit since it's been out lying for a while. Some things are just unavoidable. The chocolate cloud cake was really good, but there was so much cream. Unlike the buttercream bread, there was imbalance here, but I adored the giant strawberries sandwiched between the cream. The consistency of the actual cake was perfect though, because sometimes I know it can get really soggy from the cream. Next time I would give another cake a try instead. The milk cornet was great! Tried it out because it seemed really popular; there was only one left. This pastry like a croissant stuffed with milky cream. The cornet was perfectly crunchy and the milk cream wasn't too sweet. Next time, I want to give the blueberry version a try. The strawberry milk bread impressed me. It was super soft, and I like how there was a really small amount of cream. Like, I understood what the cream was trying to do there. One bite of just bread would be pretty dry, but a little bit of cream can help smooth things out but still keep the spotlight on the bread. Like, DANG! Tous les jours really went out of their way to give us a sip of Valentines day! This drink is on the sweeter end, though. A friend said that the caramel macchiato was just okay, nothing surprising or impressive about it. I guess it was a safe order. The baristas were really efficient with our drinks; both drinks took five minutes or less! I love the interior of this bakery. So cute yet so easygoing. If it's your first visit, you really can't go wrong with the ube pancakes or the pandan mochi chicken and waffles. Those are my go-to orders every time. I also love the loco moco and the chilaquiles, and honestly, I've worked my way through a good portion of the menu and have yet to order something I wouldn't get again. The portions are huge, so sharing a few plates is the way to go. For drinks, I'm always tempted by the cookie butter latte, and their rotating mimosas are a fun treat for brunch. Before your food even comes out, don't skip the complimentary chips and salsa bar--it's a dangerous feature when you show up hungry (which I always do). And then there's the pastry case. Giant cinnamon rolls, incredible cookies, and so many baked treats that it's almost impossible to leave empty-handed. Even if you're just stopping in for coffee, it's worth grabbing something to go. Despite how packed it gets during peak brunch hours, the ordering system is surprisingly efficient. You order first, then find your own table, and somehow we've always been able to seat our whole family without much trouble. The staff deserves a lot of credit too--they stay friendly, patient, and helpful even when the restaurant is slammed. There is no shortage of brunch spots these days, but Denica's is one that has earned its reputation. Great food, generous portions, excellent service, and pastries worth making room for. It's the kind of place I keep coming back to, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

They also have two long play tables for toddlers and small kids to play while waiting for food. They have railroad tracks and little trains on them. As a note, they do have soufflé pancakes, but it even says on the menu that they take roughly 20-25 minutes to make. They also have cookie samples for their delightful cookies while you wait in line to order. My only gripes are that I wish the prices were a little lower. You get a lot of food which helps to justify, but I'd take smaller portions for lower prices. The other thing is that I'm a big hash brown person, but I like them all crispy. The hashbrowns here are more like bricks (see picture) and so the center is just hot potato and not as much of that delightful crisp, which takes away a lot for me. Regardless of those gripes, I've been here many times and will continue to come here.
