We eat here every time we are in town. and we always get the breakfast waffle which is a waffle with bacon cooked in, and eggs on top. Everytime. Without fail. Because the waffles are that good. Get there before 9 am so you can hang out with the locals. You can bring your book, or magazine, whatever, and sit and enjoy the beverages and waffles. After a while the tourists come in and the vibe changes for a while. Also, most of the art is for sale. Perhaps it was a bad day? Front counter staff seemed stiff and unpleasant. I had questions about the cold drinks and just wanted to ensure I wasn't ordering anything with coffee and that seemed to inconvenience her a little bit. We ordered some kind of muffin/bread pudding... thing. I can't remember but I think it was banana or raspberry something or other. What I do know, is it was super dry and the only saving grace was the whipped cream on top. I am positive it had not been baked that day and could have possibly been sitting in the case for multiple days. The Orange Dream was good, almost like an italian cream soda/creamsicle combination. A popular spot with the locals as it was poppin' with people who were clearly not tourists on a Saturday at 11am. We were staying at the hot springs and decided to walk to Passion Pie Cafe for breakfast and coffee. When we got there it was the end of a rush it seemed but the line of customers never stopped. We ordered tomato basil Parmesan quiche, a berry protein shake, hot & iced caramel lattes and a pecan pie. Absolutely delicious & well worth it. Old route 66 has so many choices and Passion Pie is a fun one. this place is our style with lots of odd art on the wall, funky furniture and a menu with lots of bacon. The Bacon tacos was excellent and she loved the BLT on a croissant. Really nice bacon. So they await you and me of the other choices, I know I will be happy with their cooking. Found this on Yelp and decided to stop for pour over and the bakery/soup/salad/breakfast food options while on a road trip. We love to try local pour overs and always use Yelp! The pour over was pretty good, as was the curry soup. Veggie sandwiches were marginal, but the biggest reason for the 2-star was the lack of friendly service. As a traveler through a small town, I've had great experiences. This one lacked any personality. While not overtly rude, we were not treated with warmth or interest. We stopped here on a Sunday morning after enjoying our stay at the Fire Water lodge, which I also left a very good review yesterday on Yelp. My husband and I ordered the breakfast croissant, and my son ordered the Elvis waffles. It was all delicious! The breakfast crossaint tasted fresh out of the oven. It had scrambled eggs, thick bacon, and cheese inside. Very tasty! We also had the mocha latte which was very creamy and delicious. My son's waffles were thick, fresh, and delicious. The syrup had some kind of cinnamon-peanut butter-awesomeness taste to it, and was topped with banana slices and a generous portion of whipped cream. An 11 year old's dream come to life. Next time we stay at T or C, we will be coming back for sure. read more

The food was good. Fat Elvis was great and the Ham and Cheese Croissant was good too. I took away stars because I had to pay for syrup. I spent $30+ and when I asked for syrup I had to pay 75 cents. I wasn't happy about that. I also took away stars because I felt like everyone could hear what my conversation was and could hear everyone else's. Every single item we ordered at this friendly little café was stellar! My husband said his croissant breakfast sandwich was the best he has ever had (and he's had his fair share!) (All of the pastries are made in-house and I'm not sure you could find better even in Paris.)The coffee is plenty good but my dirty chai latte was especially delicious. This is our third time here and they are very consistent. They have beautiful pastries, and wonderful coffee to pair with them. I had the breakfast croissant with fluffy eggs, cheese and tomatoes. The croissant was nice and flaky buttery and full of flavor. My spouse had the breakfast tacos and added hot sauce for a kick. Our previous visit we had one of the quiches that had a wonderful crust. We had just finished floating on the river and asked our tour guide for someplace to get some hot chocolate. He sent us here. We pulled up on a rainy, cloudy day ready to warm up with some goodies, there were some people outside so it looked promising. I realized my son had never brought his shoes so I told him in the car that he would not be able to go inside. He got out of the car and climbed onto the bar next to the car and in front of the restaurant. A woman, who we would later find out was the owner, told him "you can't go inside without your shoes". A pet peeve of mine is when people speak directly to children and not to their parents so I mentioned that. I also stated that he was not going inside. Her and her gang of misfits all proceeded to talk at once, was a little confused about what was going on. We went in and ordered, brought out some treats for the kids while waiting for our drinks to be made. The owner obnoxiously said sorry it wasn't my intention to offend you, the damage was already done and I said that's fine, we just won't be back. We had to walk through the galley of hecklers to go back inside to get our drinks. As soon as we came back outside, they started in on us again. One lady told us to go back to Albuquerque, when I told her we were from Elephant Butte she said "well that explains it". My friend proceeded to tell them to drop it that we were with kids. As one of the employees came out and we were getting into the car you could hear the owner talking about us to him. This was unfortunate as the food and the drinks were very good. The young man inside was very pleasant and if not for the mob mentality of the owner and her 6 or 7 friends outside this probably would have been somewhere I would frequent but beware if you are a child, from Albuquerque or from Elephant Butte, which they all clearly have some animosity for, this may not be the place for you. read more

Every time I visit T. Or C., its a must stop! They used to have an espresso shake which ( break my heart) has been taken off the menu. It was the one thing I went for, because you can't get them anywhere else, and this time was the one thing marked off the menu. Luckily, the barista (he) understood my struggle and made me something similar which was good in its own right. Also, the treats that they make are yummy!! My hubby loved his selection . . . crispy waffles with bacon cooked in, two eggs and a juicy orange wedge. I couldn't resist the waffle pear sandwich - perfect waffles with thinly sliced fresh pear, tons of feta, walnuts and honey - who knew how delicious this combination could be? This funky little gem of a cafe was packed, but all were smiling and enjoying good looking coffee drinks and the friendly cashier. So these are my thoughts on Passion Pie; atmosphere is really cool, with neat music and a variety of art on the walls. They have a good amount of options for food, and some vegan, veggie, gluten free options, too! I have had better coffee, and better service. Some of the employees here just are not engaging, and are just working to get money. I'm very happy Passion Pie is here in this little town, because or else I wouldn't have a place to go. There were only two pie selections neither which appealed to us. Got 2 spiced apple turnovers which tasted stale and the apple filling was too dry. Got this as take out and would have returned them for the high price paid if I did not have to drive all the way back and of course they may have been closed by then. I had the veggie croissant and an Orange Dream. Even if you're a meat eater (as I am), try the veggie croissant. It was delectable and filled me up until well later in the day. Very fresh ingredients. Croissant was killer and the drink was great. As we were leaving, I heard one of the employees tell a patron they don't microwave anything in the restaurant. This was great to hear. This was after the patron (I think) requested that a piece of banana cream pie (which I've never heard of being served warm) be microwaved? It was rainy and cold out and the soup hit the spot! My husband had a beautifully stacked Mediterranean waffle breakfast sandwich. It came with layer upon layer of hummus, tomato, feta and olives in a tower of colorful flavor. To drink he had a "Bada Bing", cherry lime juice. I had a delicious simple cup of coffee to warm me up as we watched the rain drizzle outside. This little shop is charming with wonderful customer service. Also, the menu was hard to read - I didn't realize that one could order eggs with toast and a meat. I got the impression that breakfast was all sandwiches and pastries.
