Corn fritter quiche and hot cherry pie - both delicious!
    Vivian H.

I love coming to Truth or Consequences and when I am in town, it's always an obligatory stop to the brewery and this place. Came in here on a Sunday morning and picked up a few quiches, a hot cherry pie, scone, lemon poppyseed muffin, banana bread and an iced coffee. Everything was divine and delicious! And this is mom and pop owned! This is a little slice of heaven and it's right in T or C!! Definitely stop in here when visiting, you won't regret it!

Let me start by saying that everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) here is DELICIOUS. We went in every day we were town, trying different things, and were never once disappointed! The coffee is great, the quiche is amazzzzing, but if you simply must pick one thing- grab a sausage roll! OML. I'm still thinking about it days later. It's a cute and small shop with friendly staff, so stop by and support this business if you have a chance!

All I am saying is, don't miss out on the Quiche's here. DO NOT MISS OUT. Passion Pie was the only coffee spot we visiting during my stay in Truth or Consequences when I stayed a few nights at Riverbend Hot Springs. It was close by and open. So they got our vote. We only had coffee and the croissant breakfast sammies on the first day. Coffee was good, hit the spot. The complimentary coffee at Riverbend wasn't strong enough for us. The croissant breakfast sammich is big, we prolly coulda shared one. Not to say that they didn't get finished! Ha! The second day, we came earlier. So, I was able to order the sausage roll, which they were out of the day before. Um, and I also ordered the bacon stuffed waffles, jalapeno, ham and cheddar quiche and a caramelized onions and goat cheese quiche. (Don't go to places hungry.) Our coffees too, of course. The plan was, to eat the bacon stuffed waffles and the sausage roll and save the quiches to take home. But, the quiches were warm and ready for action. So I couldn't leave them untouched! The stuffed waffles came with two eggs and a side of syrup. Totes shareable portion, which we did. We also shared the sausage roll, which, was not just sausage! Yes, it did have a large sausage in it. It also had a piece of crunchy bacon next to it with a strip of cream cheese and jalapeno too. I thought it was going to be more like a snack, but it was a meal in itself. The quiches though...they were such a delight. The egg was so buttery soft and flavorful. The onion and goat cheese was my favorite. I managed to stop eating it, firstly, because I was quite full from the waffle and sausage roll, but secondly, because I thought about how I wanted to eat it later or the next morning. Save this for later! If you are in T or C, come get you some!

I spent a couple of days in TorC recently and stopped at Passion Pie Cafe for breakfast. Honestly, if I lived here, I'd go every day. The service was fast and friendly, the food was incredible (try the passionate pear wafflewich), the coffee was just right...literally a 10/10 experience. On another visit I had the lemon crepe and it was light, lemony, and a perfect pre-hike meal.

This was such a great spot to check out. Coffee was amazing, baked goods were top notch, breakfast was amazing. Tiny intimate location with friendly service and smiles. Really enjoyed the visit here. All 10/10. French Coconut pie, Salted Caramel apple pie, Lorraine Quiche, Elvis Crepe, croissant breakfast sandwich. All hit the spot. Definitely a must stop.

Good cappachino, good Chai. Ordered pastries to go since they close at 1 pm. SO many pastry choices! Shared the tuna melt on croissant (fresh and bright) and passionate pear waffle (sweet but not gooey). Loved the small container of pickled veggies! Constant and happy line of customers with the guy at the front ready to knowledgably take orders and make suggestions.

I was nearing the end of a 9,500 mile road trip and I wanted something before the last stretch of my trip home. Passion Pie is my go to place in T&C. I ordered the spanakopita and salad plate and, surprise, a mango lassi. A lassi is the last thing I would expect in this town but here it was. More smoothie than lassi, it was very good. The other items tasted so fresh. Honestly, I'm not sure where I'd turn for food if Passion Pie were to disappear. It's an oasis in this town.

Fun and colorful place. Lots of great food options. Crepes can be gluten free for $1! So cool! Have savory and sweet crepes, breakfast sandwiches, quiches, and waffles. They make their own cold brew and it was nice and smooth. Lots of fun coffee options too. Make all their own bakery items. They have some really cool flavors of tarts. Like red Chile cherry. Who knew? The service was great. Very friendly. Willing to answer questions and when I asked for a coffee to go when we left they made sure it was ready for me.

Gem of a find during my road trip through Truth or Consequence, NM. Cozy and colorful vibe! The pastries and quiche are made in house yummy! Friendly service...inviting space.

Just cuz they got a corner on the Hillsboro nosh market don't mean they ain't putting their best foot forward! The breakfast menu (served until 10:45, if I recall correctly, to enable efficient transition to lunch), was plenty varied with more than a few options I really wanted to try. Middle-aged sedentary lifestyle affording what it does, I only ordered one thing, the pile up..., but I shared it with my friend who shared her short stack of waffles. Pile ups will be pile ups... the mark of superlative being squarely on the chile. And let me tell you, red to green, they mastered both. So, so good! (Man, why did I have to share that??) I'm also delighted to say that the waffles were of my preferred thin and crispy variety rather than the Belgium sort. They were roughly the size of an Eggo, in fact nearly visually identical, but definitely not a freezer-box flavor. Hard not to enjoy a waffle, admittedly; they fit the bill perfectly for sweet breakie dessert. And the prices were exactly what they should be, indicative of craft quality but not of craft pretentiousness. The staff were so so lovely, and the locals prone to chat with out-of-towners. Hillsboro seems like a tight-knit community of folks enjoying small town western retirement... positively charming. There's even a winery a couple blocks away. But if you're planning to check the town out, definitely come on a Saturday morning so you can sit in on the Pickers' bluegrass jam session. And DEFINITELY come early enough to have breakfast at the general store and cafe. Then stay for lunch!

The chicken fried steak was very good with white gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans and a toasted biscuit. I always toast my biscuits at home, but this was the first time a restaurant toasted my biscuit and it was great. Service was prompt and coffee refills were provided when needed. I've decided this is my go-to restaurant for comfort food. Since my first visit to Rustic Cafe a month ago, I have eaten there three more times. I tried the hamburger steak with grilled onions and mushrooms on my second visit. It was very good too, but the mashed potatoes and mac & cheese sides were only Lukewarm. I guess I could have sent them back, but the steak and brown gravy was hot enough. The mac and cheese was nothing to get excited about. On my next visit I tried the BLT on Texas toast. It seemed a bit small for the $8.99 price and the mayo tasted a little weird to me (I only use Best Foods mayo at home.) It did include plenty of thin crisp bacon, but I had trouble biting through the tomato slices since my top and bottom front teeth don't quite touch. On my last visit, I had the Rustic Cheeseburger (medium) with onion rings as a side. The 1/3 lb. burger was very good, and I thought the quantity and quality of the onion rings was excellent. Only after I got home and looked at my receipt did I realize that I'd been charged a separate $1.49 for onion rings that were supposed to be included as side with the burger. I didn't really mind the extra charge since they had given me so many onion rings and they were the best I've eaten in many years. On one visit, the waitress gave me a 10% senior discount that I've not received on any other visit, so I don't know if this is a policy or just at the discretion of the wait staff. I know others have complained about slow service, but I'm retired and always bring my crossword puzzles with me to work on while I'm waiting, so I've not really noticed if the service is slow. Rustic Cafe is not advertised as a "fast food" joint, so I am happy with the speed of the service. My servers have always been pleasant and accommodating to any of my requests. Breakfast was always my favorite meal, and I'm pleased to find a place that offers breakfast all day. That'll have to be my next visit though.

All three of the items on that section of the menu are served with a salad, and are under the same name as some of the other sandwiches that they offer. My mom had ordered the southwest turkey, off the low carb menu, thinking that it would just come with a side salad, so she also ordered some of the soup of the day. Apparently she pointed to the low carb section on the menu while ordering, but didn't say it out loud. Idk, she probably messed up by not saying it. Anyways, when the waitress brought out the southwest turkey Sandwich, and not the low carb meal, mom realized that she'd accidentally ordered the wrong thing. Instead of saying "I didn't realize that you meant the low carb, I'm sorry," our waitress said "well that's not what you told me" and walked away to get our ticket. Then, she proceeded to say that it's not her job to ask if people wanted the low carb option or not, and that my mom should have told her in the first place. Only after realizing that she got a $2 tip, she finally said sorry and then began starting an ARGUMENT with my mother, who is a former waitress herself. In the end after my mom said have a great day, the waitress made a sarcastic comment about how great her day was going and we left. The food was good, aside from the overcooked burger that my dad had. But our waitress was incredibly rude, which is surprising for a little town like Datil. We probably won't be back after that experience. Maybe she was not having a great day, but that's no way to treat returning customers.
