Solid fresh pasta place! Located inside liberty market. Got the creamy pesto with chicken and it was good! The worker was nice and food came out within less than 13 minutes. You can explore while you wait. Good proportion to keep you filled.

Awesome service! Fast and fresh! Located in liberty station. You can choose which pasta noodle you would like. Kids menu comes with a juice box and delicious cookie - your choice of three different cookies. My kiddo loved her pasta! Affordable prices.

3 stars for me means average, and that's how I felt about the food. I'm a big fan of fresh pasta, so I was excited to try Pasta Design at Liberty Station, but nothing really stood out. I ordered a kids' pasta ($9.99) for my son and a cheese ravioli with marinara for about $15. The portion felt a little small for the price. Service was fine, and the food came out in about 15 minutes. I did like that I could walk around and check out other spots in the market while waiting. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back, especially with so many other options inside the market.

Service was awesome, welcoming and efficient. As the line grew the anticipation grew. The fresh handmade pastas displayed give that lasting impression that makes you come back and wanna taste it. Choose your pasta, sauce, toppings proteins or veggies. Or you can purchase pasta by the pound to cook at home. I thoroughly enjoyed the spinach ricotta ravioli. At first I was wondering where the ravioli was. They were swimming in just the right amount of sauce. The gnocchi needed some help. A bit too dense not a pillowy consistency. Not to worry we took it home. I changed it up with a little bit of this, little bit of that as I worked some luv into it. They were perfect. Luv'd this concept with easy access to a place like this inside a public market. Would definitely return.

Pasta Design is the Italian fresh pasta vendor inside the Liberty Public Market (LPM) in Point Loma. It's one of the longest tenured businesses in the market. The left menu screen listed the steps if you wanted to design your own bowl. The right menu screen displayed the preset entrees, salads, house specials, and desserts. You could also purchase pasta and ravioli by the pound. A glass display case showed the available noodles and salads. I decided to make my own item by selecting bucatini as the pasta, bolognese as the sauce, and sausage as a protein. The bowl was prepared in about 10 minutes. For $13.98, the serving size was meager as I had hoped there was going to be more. The noodles were cooked to the right degree, and the sauce had good flavor. The addition of sausage was probably unnecessary as the meat in the bolognese was sufficient. If you want Italian fare while at LPM, then this will be your spot. The quality of my food was decent, but the price for the portion was what limited my rating of Pasta Design to a three star level.

Amazing rigatoni with cheese sauce, and broccoli!!!

The service was outstanding attentive without being intrusive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making the dining experience feel effortless from start to finish. The ambiance perfectly complements the meal: warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed, striking that rare balance between cozy comfort and refined elegance. I'm a chef, and this dish doesn't just meet expectations it completely blows past them. The rigatoni is cooked to that perfect al dente bite, with just the right amount of structure to hold onto every bit of that silky, luxurious broccoli cheese sauce. And that sauce? Absolutely flawless. It's rich and creamy with a beautiful depth of flavor cheesy, slightly nutty, and seasoned just enough to enhance without overpowering. Every bite feels intentional, like comfort food that's been carefully refined. What really takes it to the next level is the balance. The bright, tender broccoli adds freshness and a slight snap that cuts through the richness, keeping the dish from feeling too heavy. Visually, it's inviting and vibrant. the contrast between the golden sauce and the fresh green broccoli makes it pop in the best way. It's the kind of plate that feels both nostalgic and elevated at the same time, like something you crave but also admire. From a professional perspective, this is exactly what great cooking is about taking simple, familiar ingredients and executing them with precision and care. The textures are dialed in, the flavors are harmonious, and nothing feels out of place. It's comforting, satisfying, and honestly unforgettable. This isn't just a great dish it's the kind of dish people talk about after the meal is over. 100/5, without hesitation.

Gnocchi with pink sauce

The pastas were fresh. We enjoyed the gnocchi and the raviolis. The pink sauce was good but the pesto was a bit oily. Service was good and it's in a fu. Marketplace.

I decided to eat the creamy pesto pasta. It was super delicious. Was able to get cheese with that. They have something for everyone. Would definitely recommend this place. Got our food quickly. I was able to eat my pasta outside.

Fettuccine with Pesto and Burrata
Rochelle M.

My daughter simply cannot resist fresh pasta, especially when it can be customized. So it wasn't a surprise when she was immediately drawn to Pasta Design while at Liberty Public Market for lunch. She chose her favorite -- fettuccini with pesto sauce and burrata. Her order took about 10 minutes to prepare. The pasta was perfectly al dente, coated with fresh pesto and topped with a deliciously soft, creamy burrata. She loved it. Standard service. Good portions. Reasonable pricing.

Pink sauce with chicken and jalapeños

More like a 3.5 star so decided to round up. The person behind the counter was nice and patient while I ordered. The food is good but not memorable. You can order off the menu or build your own pasta. When you build your own, they charge you for every add on. It can get a little pricey.

The restaurant was empty save for one lone customer getting a to-go order. The young employee helping me order was friendly and helpful. My order was ready in five minutes, and I brought it home. My order was packaged neatly with several napkins and a plastic fork. This is a regular sized portion & it is quite generous. Note that this is definitely a high calorie & sodium dish. The parmigiana crusted chicken was quite salty. Overall, this entree was okay. The Mac & cheese was creamy, but it did not really have a distinct cheddar or jack cheese flavor. The green onions and crunchy onions were abundant on the top of the dish & I didn't need quite as many as there were. Overall, the portion size was good, it was edible & the special deal made it more palatable. However, I likely would not get this again as the primary flavors in it were salt & onions. Bathrooms in the dining area require a code to get in. Parking in the shared lot can get busy at prime times. Peace.

The cold cheese with the warm pasta wasn't a good combo for me and the guests I was with. This is also new. Linguine Frutti De Mare - Lots of seafood in this dish and I can definitely taste the spice! Linguine tasted tender and rich which paired well with the sauce. I do miss the pistachio pasta though, it was one of my faves!

Tucked away on Barnett Avenue near the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, this classic family-owned spot is the ultimate hole-in-the-wall; unassuming on the outside, but legendary inside for its hearty, authentic Italian food. It's a quirky location and parking situation, but offers some of the most hearty and authentic Italian food around! Well worth the visit! Founded by Sicilian brothers Alfio and Onofrio Sanfilippo (who immigrated from Sicily in 1969), Volare was their American Dream realized. They ran it together for two decades before returning to Italy. Their sister Anna stepped in to keep it in the family, and today it's still lovingly operated by family members and longtime staff who make you feel right at home. The second you walk through the door, the rich garlicky aroma from the kitchen hits you. Service is always friendly and attentive; they never let your glass go empty and treat every guest like familia! On this visit, we went straight for two of their signature comfort classics: the cheesy garlic bread and the lasagna. The garlic bread came out with thick, bubbling layers of melted mozzarella and parmesan on perfectly toasted bread: garlicky, golden, and OMG completely addictive...! They always serve this with their house sauce for dipping or spooning on. Perfection! The lasagna was pure comfort in a dish: served bubbling hot in its own baking dish under a glorious blanket of gooey, golden-brown cheese, with rich meaty layers and vibrant sauce peeking through. One order easily became a delicious two-day meal. Huge portions, soul-satisfying flavors, and very reasonable prices make Volare a standout. If you're looking for real-deal, old-school Italian in San Diego that tastes like someone's Italian mother made it, this place belongs on your must-eat list. It's been consistently excellent for decades, and these photos of our lasagna and garlic bread capture exactly why we keep coming back.

This restaurant is a hidden gem that has been established for years, 1978 to be exact. In Cali if a restaurant has been established this long, then it must be the place to go! Apparently, the word is out, as on a Saturday early evening, 5pm ish, the restaurant was packed. Plus, people were lining up for their takeaways. Not only is the food good, buts it also a good value. As you can see from our pictures the portions are large for the prices. If you look at the menu, you can see that you can order lasagna and spaghetti with meat all on one plate for less than 20 dollars. And why stop there...perhaps a side salad for under $3.00 dollars, mind you, it is a bit small. It is a side salad. The marina sauce was soooooo good.... As for ambiance-- it does feel like you are stepping back in time. Its like you walked into your grandma's small restaurant. It is a bit dark and noisy-- so this may not be the place for ambiance-- but rather a place to gather with friends and family for good conversation. After my first experience at this restaurant, I am looking forward to coming back for some more marina soon....
