Italian American restaurant that was weird to get to, but if it had survived this long they must be serving something good right? Yes! We live a bit far, but would definitely come back if we were craving Italian comfort food. Service was quick and good came out hot and fresh. Theres a parking lot in the back as well.

Lunch specials

Stepping off a cross-country flight from New England, my boyfriend and I were craving comfort food -- specifically Italian. Volare delivered exactly what we didn't know we needed: rustic, home-style cooking in a peaceful, family-owned atmosphere. The dining room had that lived-in, timeless charm that reminded me of my Sicilian dad's decor -- nothing flashy, just warm and familiar. It was lunchtime and a couple families were scattered around, but the vibe was calm and inviting. We split a chicken parm sub and the Basilica Paolini (a thin spaghetti tossed in red sauce with garlic and basil). Both were excellent -- generous portions, straightforward flavors, done right. Their homemade bread arrived warm (complimentary!) and the minestrone soup I started with was hearty and soothing. To top it off, we shared a half-liter of rosé -- and somehow, the bill for all of this came in under $50. In San Diego, that's basically a miracle. Even with the phone ringing nonstop, our server (who seemed to be single-handedly running the floor) was attentive, kind, and didn't miss a beat. You could feel the pride in keeping this place running smoothly. It feels like Volare hasn't touched their prices since the early 2010s, and honestly, I hope they never do. It's a neighborhood gem where you can eat well, be treated well, and leave full and happy without breaking the bank. We'll absolutely be back.

Hidden off Pacific Coast highway is this delicious gem. Cozy, casual restaurant with great food made from scratch! This is a great place to stop at lunch if you're looking for a great deal but, i love coming here for dinner. I've never had to wait for more than 10 minutes before getting a table and once you're seated the service is always impeccable. They give complimentary bread for the table and always have intriguing daily specials. It's a nice family owned style Italian restaurant vibe. Portion sizes are big so don't be surprised if you end up taking food home like you would at your Nonnas house. You truly can't go wrong with anything they have on the menu. Must try if you love Italian food!

Total hole in the wall, but has excellent pizza. Sauce and cheese were superb, although the crust was a little floppy. Prices are phenomenal and food took a little long to come out. But it was worth the wait Pizza was even better the next day. Reheat in the oven/toaster oven to fix the floppy crust and it's a 10/10

Comfort Italian food at its finest. They have the best lasagna I've ever had. Boiling hot straight out of the oven and extremely cheesy. It's hard to find a really good lasagna and they take the win. You just have to try it to find out for yourself. I live in Los Angeles and plan to come back soon just to order this again as I can't stop thinking about how great it was. Service was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant very old and dated and I guess would be considered "a hole in the wall" but the food is really good and the prices are below average so not a big deal.

Great Italian food on a budget. It is family owned and has been around since 1978. We dined here last year while on vacation and wanted to come back again this year. Cheese bread was delish!!! Bread was hot and loaded with cheese. My scallop dish was amazing as I'm a big fan of both scallops and truffle mushrooms. I cleaned my plate up! My BIL really enjoyed his Ossobuco since he rarely gets a chance to eat it. It was paired up with risotto and he polished off his dinner too. My SIL had the chicken Parmesan and said the chicken was too dry. So she was a bit disappointed. We also ordered a 20 inch pineapple/pepperoni pizza to-go. Pizza was ok but we wanted to try it as the diners that were sitting next to us were ranting about how good the pizza was.

Volaré is my favorite Italian resutaurant. They have the best pizza and pasta. I got the fettuccini alfredo for lunch the other day and it was to die for. It was so incredibly creamy and delicious. Anytime I'm craving Italian I will go to volare.

I went to celebrate my birthday this weekend at the best Italian restaurant in San Diego, The food is delicious, my friends and I ordered calamari, and from the special menu the artichoke, Jumbo Lobster ravioli, Fettucine pasta and Papoardelle pasta in a creamy 3 mushroom. I loved my Nero d'Avola wine and beer Peroni Nastro Azzurro from Italy. For dessert, of course, I couldn't miss Cannoli and Tiramisu. The ambiance is very cute with several photos of Italy, I feel at home. The attendant Juliana and Andrew are very attentive. Juliana is wonderful and gave me several tips on which dishes, wines and desserts to choose. The service was spectacular. We loved our night, it was more than special!

Tortellini Volare

Volare is a cozy family Italian restaurant with a homey feel. The food prices are reasonable and affordable! I wouldn't use the word fancy to describe this place, but food is quality with good value. I got the Tortellini Volare and I really liked it. It was very rich and creamy. The portion was generous so I got a good two meals out of it. There is a tiny parking lot out front shared with another shop. Our server was young, but quick and amicable. No complaints about any of the service. I had a good experience here and would like to come back!

Wonderful local Italian restaurant Volares, a family owned gem in the heart of San Diego.

Food is delicious, prices are amazing! It does get busy on the weekends so don't go hangry cause you will wait, but it's worth it.

The restaurant has a warm,…read moreinviting atmosphere that made it the perfect place to enjoy dinner on a beautiful sunny evening. It was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it was also very family-friendly. Every single dish we ordered was outstanding. The fresh pasta was the highlight of the meal. You could immediately tell it was homemade. The texture was perfect, and every sauce was packed with flavor. The pesto pasta with grilled chicken was fresh, vibrant, and incredibly well balanced. The creamy pasta was rich, velvety, and pure comfort food. We honestly couldn't stop talking about how good the pasta was. The pizza was just as impressive. The crust was light, airy, and perfectly charred from the wood-fired oven. The toppings tasted fresh, and even with all the meat and mushrooms, it never felt too heavy. It had that authentic Neapolitan-style texture that kept us reaching for another slice. The service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and our food came out surprisingly fast. Even though the restaurant was busy, we never felt forgotten, and everything arrived fresh and perfectly prepared. There honestly wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. Every dish exceeded our expectations, and we left already planning our next visit. If you're looking for authentic Italian food with amazing fresh pasta, delicious pizza, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere, Buona Forchetta is absolutely worth the visit.

Fab time here - I don't know why I hadn't come in a while…read more Current version of the patio is not huge - but it was sweet & comfy and on Laurel toward the park (not on 5th or toward the corner). So nice views into the park too. Josh was our server and he was super nice! I started with the pope's delight cocktail. It's listed online as "aged rum + amaro romana + salted cantaloupe olio + lime, $17." But they had decided to add a proscuitto crisp and make it $21. I didn't want the proscuitto so that was a little annoying. But it was a tasty little cocktail. Bread: it's amazing here. They change exactly how they do it from time to time - this version was so yummy and with great butter. App: I got the burrata + pluot | cherry tomato + arugula + almond + coriander + mint + toast appetizer. Very yummy! Huge also. I took half of it home. Definitely recommend. Entree: I always like when the corn agnolotti comes on the menu, but it changes each year. This version was pretty good - I think my pasta was just a tad undercooked, not quite al dente on the parts of the agnolotti on the edges (not the pillows holding the filling). Still good though. Also, if you're going to the theater, do you know they have a FREE shuttle that takes you to the Old Globe and back? We decided to walk there after dinner (easy, pretty) but take the shuttle back after the show. So easy! And then I ordered takeout dessert from Josh. Overall, a super meal and great vibes. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Here's a polished version you can post:…read more What a fantastic find! We stopped here after spending the day at the zoo, and it was one of the best meals my family and I have had in a long time. The service was absolutely outstanding--friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in. I walked into this little Italian restaurant and found it completely packed. I asked the gentleman…read moreat the front how long the wait would be for a table for one. Without hesitation, he poured me a glass of Prosecco, invited me to wait outside, and assured me he'd have a seat for me in just a few minutes. Sure enough, about two minutes later, he came out and seated me. This restaurant made you feel like you were in Italy with the ambiance and vibe. I had done my research beforehand, so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the lasagna, and it was absolutely incredible. The portion was generous, and my server let me know it would take a little extra time to prepare, which was perfectly fine. It didn't take long for me to realize that the man who seated me was also the owner. As I watched him greet guests throughout the evening, it was obvious that he genuinely loves what he does. We had a great conversation, and he was warm, welcoming, and personable. After finishing my meal, I ordered a double espresso and tiramisu for dessert. The tiramisu was easily one of the best I've ever had. Exceptional food, outstanding hospitality, and a memorable experience from start to finish. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.
