Safe to say this place is a dump. Piss all over the floor, hardly any draft beer, nothing good worth noting. Would've never gone in if I'd known, and I'll never go back. Genuinely the worst bar experience I've ever had. Had to present THREE forms of ID, then got ignored at the bar after I called them out for claiming mine was fake. So we go to the other bartender, and this guy rudely stares down my girlfriend and goes "Can't you see I'm busy?" in the most condescending voice possible. Incredibly disrespectful, especially coming from someone who works in the service industry. Do better. read more

Rude large guy at the front of the bar today! I was attending the new downtown art walk and came in to check out the bar. We were immediately yelled at not politely asked to finish the wine in our plastic cups, but told ya better gulp that down now or get out! . ..Really? Mo is an absolute angel. She is always in such a good mood and so wonderful to talk to. I have never ever had a bad time at this bar because she works there. She's my favorite thing about this bar. 10/10 go there. The service is wonderful and the vibes are fabulous. Mo is the best. The absolute best. read more

I usually LOVE this bar! One of my daughters lives in Truckee. My other daughter just moved to South Shore, with her young yellow lab, Goose. We told her how DOG FRIENDLY Truckee is, and after having dinner at Bar of America (where Goose was very well-behaved), we headed over to Pastime Club. There was nobody in the bar yet except for a couple of locals and your day shift bartender, Jeff. Johnny, the bartender on duty, was AWESOME. Goose was a dog dumped on the side of the road- my daughter rescued her at about 12 weeks old. She just completed all her vaccinations and this was her first night out and about. The off duty bartender, JEFF, was rude and obnoxious and chased my daughter and her dog out of the bar- because the puppy barked. Twice. Not loud barks, just little "chuffs". Only because I disappeared into the bathroom and she was looking for me. Again, nobody except maybe 5 people (counting us) in the bar. My other daughter had asked JEFF if Goose could have one of the dog treats that are kept behind the bar. He said, "They are for good dogs only". I explained Goose's sad beginning, and this was her first day being socialized. JEFF said to me, a 62 year old patron, "Cool story but dogs that bark don't get to be here". Which is weird, because I've been in the bar before and have heard big, full grown dogs barking. My daughter heard him, and left the bar, IN TEARS. The bartender on duty said there was NO PROBLEM with Goose. But JEFF was acting like he owned the place and literally drove out paying customers, one who drove 4 HOURS to visit her girls and was looking forward to playing a rousing game of shuffleboard. Instead I'm sitting outside the bar typing this review. Please pull this guy up. Goose is also an emotional support dog for my daughter, but we didn't pull that card because she's still a 5 month old puppy. Bottom line: either your bar is dog friendly or it isn't. Jeff was rude to three women and if my daughters had let me I'd have gone back in there and gone full Momma Bear on this guy. Very disappointed. Thank you. read more

I was told this was a dog friendly bar, so I brought my 6mo lab in so I could get a few drinks and socialize her. We ordered drinks and when my mom went to the bathroom, she let out a quiet bark. There were very few people in the bar, one of them being an off shift bartender named Jeff. Jeff was super rude and off-putting, saying things like "you shouldn't bring your dog into a bar" and refusing to let the other bartender give her a treat to calm her nerves. He was clearly in a mood and drinking didn't seem to help him. Being drunk at his place of work and scaring off paying customers on a slow night is not a great look for him, or the bar that employs him. I'm very conscious that my dog is not a service animal, and I would never bring her into places that were not specifically pet friendly. Had I known this bar (more so this off shift bartender) was not pet friendly, I would've never brought her in. A really terrible experience for me and my mother who drove 4+ hours to visit my sister in Truckee. Please have the owner update their pet policy if only perfectly trained dogs (aka service animals) are allowed in. And to Jeff, she IS a GOOD dog whose still learning to navigate the world. I'm really sorry you felt like you needed some sort of control in your life as a bartender at your big age, I hope that weird power trip made you feel better. Next time skip the drink after work and be miserable at home, the paying customers deserve to have a good experience despite your personal issues. read more

So...it's mid-May, and we've decided Reno would be a great place for a bachelor party. Or rather, the bachelor has. So, being mid-may, we grab our golf clubs, board shorts, and drinking shoes and head east up the hill. Long story short, coming home, epic hangover in heads, we get trapped on 80 east due to an unforseen snowstorm. 80 is shut the F down. We don't move for what seems an eternity. Facebook updates us on the other wagons in our modern day Donner party and we elect to fall back to Truckee and wait it out. So we walk in and the bartender is helpful, compassionate, and even lets us order pizza from the new pizza place down the street and have it delivered. Awesome. Soon, nearly the entire bachelor party is hanging their heads over pizza and cold beers at the bar. The hangover didn't recede, but things could have been worse. Long over due review.. Watching the bartender touch his hair then touch our garnishes was horrific especially because he looked and smelt like a homeless off the street. Apparently he knows nothing about food safety, yes it's a bar but it applies. He said his name was Tony, not sure if he still works there but just FYI hair should always be pulled back if you can't keep it groomed, cut it. I understand that I shouldn't expect much from a dive/"club" but there should still be some professionalism and standards. read more

My daughter dragged me into this dive bar, because they had live music on a Saturday evening. I was kinda skeptical about what the crowd would be like. My girl said, "Mom, the owner is from Los Gatos, and is really nice" and he gave her a free T-shirt. I liked it there, it's a long bar and small but they have the band squeezed in the front corner by the door. I found the crowd to be mixed and fun, but this was just one particular night. Be prepared to stand if it's crowded, spots at the bar are $$ real estate. Fun. read more

Horrific place! Terrible service, unfriendly staff and just an overall terrible experience. There is one bouncer who has a beard and thinks he is on duck dynasty, avoid him at all costs. If you love a good afterparty dive bar with pool and games... you will love this place! We were on a ski trip and came here two nights in the a row. No craft cocktails but basic well drinks are well priced and it gets scenery at night for sure. read more

Went here on a Saturday night with a few buddies, we stayed for a beer which is more time than we should have spent in this place. Went in planning to play some pool but the place wasn't exactly welcoming to people from out of town. Once we left and got out the door someone sitting at the bar promptly said to the bouncer "I can't believe you let those guys in here" to which he said "they just walked right in". Not a bad bar. It's nicely tucked away from the downtown strip. The bartender was kind of on the colder side and brought us our check after one round, it made us feel like she didn't want us there. We decided to play buck hunter in the back and got a few more rounds and she warmed up. I get that people from the Bay Area are annoying but we're just southerners having a good time and enjoying truckee. This is about as good of a dance party you'll find anywhere in the lovely village of Truckee, California. After a long day of eating ribs at the Nugget Rib Cook Off in Sparks, Nevada, the natural next step was to find a hyphey dance floor to shake a tail feather for a few hours, right? Well, not so much... bopping around after eating my weight in ribs was an adventure to say the least, but that doesn't mean I wasn't having a blast! (At this time, I'd like to take a moment to thank my sponsor, Pepto Bismol, for making this night/review happen without something very, very embarrassing happening in public.) The hottest DJ in all of Truckee was in the house spinning top 40 jams with the ferociousness of a manatee in heat. From Lil' John to Usher to Justin Timberlake... the man behind the laptop was bringing the heat and left little room to catch your breath for even 0:30 seconds between songs in the thin air of Northern California. I do use the term "DJ" lightly, as he was literally sitting behind a Mac, clicking on another song once the previous song ended. Don't think he'll be giving Cascade a run for his money anytime soon, but hey - it is what it is. If you're not in to the dance party, apparently they have live music during the week, as well as a shuffleboard table in the corner for the gamer types. Pair those entertaining pieces with stiff, cheap cocktails... and you have yourself a pretty fun way to spend an evening in a small town on the California/Nevada border. read more

Great little spot for live music. Was there last weekend to see DJ R-O live (www.djr-o.com) and it rocked. I don't live in area, but every time I go I have a great time. Be sure to check out Keith's Shuffle puck table and order some 'Sharks Shots' (in honor of the SJ Sharks). okay I admit that I like shitty dive bars. I feel at home in them. they comfort me in times of need. the pastime club is no exception to this rule. it has a nice long bar to belly up to, insane shots, bottles of cheap american domestic beer made from rice, and a brass pole at one end which by the looks of it gets used frequently enough by buzzed ladies with enough gusto to keep it shiny! a 70's era ironhead is mounted above the bar, giving the place that biker feel that warms my heart. live music gives this place a nice vibe to wind down dive-style after a day of snowboarding or snowmobiling or gambling in Reno or whatever. read more

Let's be honest, there are not a lot of places to go in Truckee to wet your whistle. But this is not a "by default" 4 star rating but an honest "I like this place" 4 star rating. It is kind of dive-ish but definitively not a dive like you find in a bigger city. The place has some natural charm and style along with fairly friendly people and a nice small town vibe. I want to know what gets you on the long "lame" list that is posted at the end of the bar. LOTS of names on it. I assume that it is a list of people that have been 86'd, but not sure. Maybe we hit it on an off night (Wednesday) but I have to say I expected a lot more based on the other reviews I read here on Yelp. The service was horrible. The drinks mediocre. No food. The pluses were that they had a shuffleboard table which we didn't have a chance to play as well as the pool table which was occupied. But still nice to see in there. Also, the place was a cool, hole on the wall, type dive bar which I liked. Maybe on the weekend with a few more people in there, a decent bartender (who could actually remember our drinks and give correct change), and some music it could be fun but I'd avoid it mid week. Wow. Nasty. I didn't know so many rednecks existed this far west. This place is the definition of a dive bar. I don't know if I expected a classy joint in Truckee, but the floor was gross and sticky, the bathroom door (a single) didn't lock, and the music playing was disgustingly country. Love this dive bar. So what if it gets a little grimey in there? Every time I make it up to Tahoe for the weekend, its a must that we make time for at least one visit to Pastime. It's tradition. The whole place isn't that big, but the bar is long, and they've managed to fit in a small stage for bands, shuffle board, a pool table, and an arcade game. I've never had a bad time here whether its jam packed at 12:30 at night, or completely dead at 2:30 in the afternoon. The bartenders have always been friendly and chatty, and to my surprise I had one of the best bloody mary's ever. The jukebox also has a good mix of both newer stuff and awesome classics. What is not to like? The pours are heavy, the crowd is local, and the music is loud! After a day riding it pretty much is the cure for sore muscles. The owners tend the bar and you can always find your lost id and credit card the next day...not that I know from personal experience or anything (I blame the fact that when I am not looking the bar tender refills my drink as if I am at his party)! Cool bar right in Old Town Truckee. It's easy to pass this place up. It's popular with the locals. Met Lamont & Dino - 2 very down to earth bartenders. I went there over Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed the place. I was drawn in by the live music, but it wasn't that boring bar music you can hear in anyone of the thousands and thousands of bars in the US. It was more lively and had a bit of character to it with the added instruments like the saxaphone and the tamporine with musicians moving dynamically to the beat. It was very entertaining to listen to. The place is a bit small but not to small to solicit a diverse crowd. This bar held any kind of person from the local to the spoiled hottie to the 50 year old couple trying to be young again. It actually is a rather compelling place to go. The only knock I have against the place is that it looks like so many other bars. Sure it has random props to entice a conversation and has a few signs that draw a laugh but it was all to predictable. And not in a resort town sort of way where you would expect snowboards and skiis to hang from the ceiling but rather predictable in the average-town sort of way. The Pastime is a good bar. For those people who call it a dive bar, what is your standard for a regular bar? A ritzy fucking wine bar in Napa? This is another local hangout of Truckee, filled with the seasonal mountain people working the ski resorts (at least in the winter when I ave been there).
