It was a rainy spring skiing day, so we came in early and decided to splurge on the fondue here. They don't publish the menu online, but everyone seems to get the fondue, and a lot of families get the kids' burger, which comes in a nice bento looking box. They have salads, burgers/sandwiches, soup, and charcuterie as other options. I started with the Coybow Pass, which is a mezcal based drink. The clothespinned dried orange slice was a nice touch. The fondue was a mix of various cheeses served in a traditional pot, with apples, wild board sausage, brussels sprouts, and focaccia. This hit the spot after a chilly day of skiing. Service was as you would expect for the Ritz - super polite and professional. If you're staying here or just want to duck in for a fancier break, the Living Room is worth a try. read more

Loved our dinner here on our last night in Tahoe. We were not staying at the hotel but with two little ones, the gondola to the Ritz is a fun and free activity so we came up to spend the evening. The staff were so kind and accommodating-I can't speak highly enough of the level of service and quality of food here. They immediately got us two high chairs and a kids menu so we could order quickly for the kiddos. We really appreciated that the kids menu wasn't just fried food and burgers/fries. They had pasta as well as salmon and roasted veggies which we ordered for our 2yo and baby. I ordered the pork ramen and my husband got a chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious and came out quickly (a must when dining with tiny humans). My only slight complaint was that my margarita (mocktail) was expensive and mostly ice though it tasted great! Would highly recommend eating here even if you're not staying at the Ritz. Felt like a special occasion place but still approachable and kid-friendly. read more

We had a nice late lunch here after snowshoeing on the mountain. We walked to where the ATV picks you up by the ski school and took the short ride up to the Ritz Carlton building. At about 2pm it was easy to find a seat. We ordered two Wedge Salads and I got a glass of rose. The veggies in the salad were pretty standard, I could have used more onions, and the salad dressing was really good. This is a nice stop to try and check out. I love eating here every time I am in Northstar. It is open seating and has beautiful fireplaces, couches to relax, and IG worthy backgrounds. Jennifer, perfectly timed all my courses and offered incredible service. This hotel, in general, remembers. Jennifer remembers that i like Black tea for instance and my name after only meeting me once. Ambiance is always lively and the bar has delicious winter cocktails and whiskey to warm you right up. I'm giving this place 5 stars for the service mostly. Our server, Ashtiano, was the sweetest. He made a drink recommendation which I didn't end up liking but I pretended to like it but he somehow knew and took it off my bill. We were just there for drinks and appetizers so we didn't order any entrees but I got the french onion soup and asked for extra cheese and got exactly that. I understand that this is located in the Ritz Carlton, but it's still just a hotel restaurant - how good could it be? At least initially, that's what I thought as I sat down on a couch and glazed over the menu. I'm not sure if it's seasonal, but they had this braised short rib gnocchi with truffles which absolutely blew me away. It's a bit heavy, but definitely a nice treat to have for lunch or dinner. There's no Yelp for the backyard bbq thing outside so the bad is gonna bleed over here. I don't mind paying 30 bucks for a regular burger or sandwich at a nice location. But I expect it to be better than barely edible. I was starving and the food still was very hard to eat. The "pulled chicken" sandwich was not pulled chicken at all, not even close. It was very dry, hard to chew, large chunks of chicken. The fries were so over-cooked I couldn't chew half of them. The rest were bad but I choked em down. Everything had way too much salt, like nearly poisonous amounts. The bbq sauce and the Cole slaw sauce were awful, just pure salt basically. My experience at The Living Room is honestly mediocre. First of all, if you are not staying at the Ritz, know that you will NOT be served. I was there for a few days with my crew, and we ate there twice, it took forever to get any service and I was extremely angry when I got told that the kitchen is closed during open hours. That same wait staff went and placed an order for a different table literally right after telling us that. If that is not discrimination, I don't know what is! Food was not that great either! The Living Room is a great multi level space that is also part of the centerpiece of the Ritz's main lobby. They have this large central column that acts as multiple fire pits as you ascend spirally from the first to second floors. Seating areas adjacent to the pits curve up with the column while expansive pockets of seating spread out through the main lobby. There's a large main bar on one side with lounge style seating adjacent. Pizzas, salads, sandwiches and burgers round out the food selections while the full cocktail and large wine list make for apres ski or night owl drinks. This is a great place for drinks and a bite to eat after a day of snowboarding. The Living Room is located in the Ritz Carlton (mid-mountain at the Northstar Resort). Just take the free gondolas up! The Living Room is just that...several fire places to warm up to and large ceiling to floor windows allow you to enjoy the view of the snow covered mountains that surround you. Just sit down on one of their couches or lounge chairs and a server will greet you shortly. BTW, service is excellent! Your server is always around the corner and there's another waiter making sure your water glass is always full. We found ourselves here on more than one occasion, so we got to try several things from their menu. *Grilled Merguez Lamb Sliders w/ feta, mint jelly, & pickled Fresno chiles. These sliders were so juicy and flavorful. I loved the spice of the chiles and sweetness added by the mint jelly. We ordered these twice! *Wild boar & White Bean Chili Nachos w/ cilantro, lime crema, & pickled Fresno chiles. This was a large plate...definitely for sharing. These were also our favorite and we finished every bite. I didn't know what to expect with wild boar, but the chili was delicious! *Burrata Bruschetta (sweet tomato, garlic, basil, white truffle crostini) This was fresh, flavorful & delicious. The burrata came on the side in a little bowl. I just wish this appetizer was larger. *Citrus Horseradish Crab Cakes. These had the appearance of large hush puppies, but there was nicely spiced chunks of crab under the light breading. Delicious. *Salmon (this was the fish of the day) with truffle jus with asparagus bearnaise. This was a rather small piece of grilled salmon with four huge asparagus. The salmon was cooked well, but I feel was lacking flavor and the asparagus were over-cooked for my taste. This entree was definitely disappointing especially compared to all of the appetizers we had previously ordered. They also have a list of cold and hot specialty cocktails. Between the BF & I we tried almost all of them. Notable mentions from the hot list is the Almond Joy (Seven Tiki Rum, Amaretto, hot chocolate) and from the cold list the Blueberry Lemon Drop (Grey Goose Le Citron, Tuaca, Fresh Blueberries, Fresh squeezed lemon). They also have a full bar and can make almost anything you order. We made the mistake of ordering a mohito, but had to return it since mint infused vodka was used instead of real mint. I guess we didn't consider that fresh mint would be hard to find in the mountains! So if you are ever at Northstar, trust me go to the living room! Just go after your day on the slopes not before, since you can get too comfortable on those couches by the fireplace. read more

The hotel lobby? Yup, it's bit of a hidden gem among all the dining options at Northstar. Not as popular as the on-mountain day lodges, not as obvious as Manzanita restaurant at the same Ritz-Carlton. I found the service to be astoundingly friendly and thorough, food to be delicious and quite reasonably priced vs. the mountain lodge prices, and the overall venue to be very comfortable and pretty. The only downside is that seating may be hard to come by during peak weekend hours, given its limited capacity, but I'd definitely pick this spot over Manzanita if space was available. read more

He handled my hangry husband with such grace. I ordered the chicken strips and it was amazing- juicy, tender, crispy. My husband got the buffalo burger without bacon. But they put bacon in it. The burger was good. My son ended up eating it. My husband had my chicken and tomato soup which was warm not hot , but still good. I just wanted to emphasize the excellent customer service. When I advised staff that they were needing to be refilled they were obliging....but 25 minutes later I told the suited waiter (the manager on duty I assume) I was impolitely advised that they were on it. My friend and I weren't particularly in the mood to go skiing with our sig-o's that day, so we detoured from our plan to learn cross country skiing at Northstar, up to the Ritz...because, really, that's where we belong! :) The service was excellent (shocking, right?) from the valet, to The Living Room, to the ski rental shop where we ultimately did not rent skis. The Living Room had a warm feeling to it, very comfy. We sat in cushy chairs, ate salad for lunch, and drank champagne! Our server was super friendly and answered our non-menu questions. After our days of skiing, my family and I met up in the Ritz Carlton living room for a drink and a snack. It was great. The living room is a warm and inviting space for food, drink, people-watching, and just walking through. The fireplaces and couches / comfy chairs are exactly what one needs after their butt is frozen from a day of skiing. The drink menu is impressive, with a wide variety of beer, wine, and hot and cold cocktails. The appetizers aren't as plentiful but are all appropriate and delicious. The waiting times ranged from us from very rapid to kinda slow, depending on the time of day and the business of the living room. The one thing I'd say is to come for lunch or happy hour, not dinner. We went for dinner our final night (my dad's idea, not mine), and we found the wait to be much longer and the options for actual entress much fewer. That didn't negate our overal happiness with this venue for eating and drinking, though. read more
