This place was great but now that it is Tuscany the quality went way down the shredded mozzarella is. 2/10 compared to what you would get from Pastosa's prices are also much more expensive I will not be going back instead I will use the extra money for the bridge toll and head to pastosa in Brooklyn to get my shredded mozzarella ravioli and fresh manicotti! read more

We took this detour from Rte 9 almost by mistake and passed by this place and decided to check it out for a quick bite. We're so glad we did. I heard about Pastosa in NY before, but I didn't even know there's one in NJ. The door welcomed us into an amazing collection of breads, pastas, cheeses, cakes, veggie and non-veggie selections, and more! The food volume and variations made this place seem so small compared to what it offers. Everything on the deli was made onsite and fresh daily. The service was very friendly to everyone -- what appears to be old familiar faces -- and to new faces (us included). With so many selections but not wanting to overeat, we eventually decided to only get a giant potato croquette ball and a tempting lasagna block (they can heat up the order for you). Both were well cooked and the lasagna was equal if not better than those in real Italian restaurants. Reasonably priced for such fresh and good quality items. Very satisfying and fun experience and will definitely come back if we're in the area. read more

There is a deli counter with Boars Head meats and pre-made meals. The workers here are always great! One thing to note is the tiny size of this store! I pass this place all the time and was told about it but never got the chance to go inside. I had some free time to kill before an appointment, so I ventured in to browse. Tiny store packed to the brim with everything Italian. I saw things in there that I haven't seen since my childhood. It brought back some amazing memories and delicious thoughts. Pasta, dried and fresh, Ravioli of every variety even gluten free. Cheeses, homemade mozzarella and homemade ricotta. Desserts, the norm. Tiramisu, Cannoli, Spumoni, and my absolute favorite as a kid Tortoni. Which I haven't seen in a long long time. It is delicious. The meat counter looked amazing and also homemade Italian specialties. The prices were across the board because food prices these days are through the roof. I will definitely be back to buy many things. They do have a small section of already made chicken burgers, Italian sausages and pre-marinated meats, ground chicken etc. They also have a section for canned tomatoes from Italy and a few odds and ends. Homemade Italian bread. Very small store but bursting to the seams with a mass number of goodies. It is a lot to take in as you overwhelmed but the yumminess. I can't wait to go back and pick up a few things. So if you're driving around in that area definitely worth a check in because you never know what you will find that will bring you back down memory lane. The possibilities are endless. I recently attended a barbecue at the home of my Aunt Linda and Uncle Angelo. They lived in Brooklyn once upon a time and they still gripe about the lack of quality food in New Jersey. I was thrilled when I heard that a Pastosa location opened in Manalapan. I didn't want to show up empty handed so I grabbed some goodies. Pastosa was certainly the star of the afternoon. I purchased two rings of Italian sausage, a hunk of Reggiano Parmigiano cheese, a pound of Prosciutto di Parma, and some Cerignola Olives. I'm sorry that I didn't purchase more because everything disappeared very quickly. PS, I like this store, but the Bensonhurst location is better. read more

Everything is fresh! The staff are on the ball. They have the best fresh meats and will cut to order. They have fresh bread daily from Brooklyn and Staten Island Their prosciutto bread is the best on the East coast. Their prepared foods are fantastic; eggplant, Sicilian chicken cutlets, various baked pasta dishes and last but not least the absolute best fresh raviolis anywhere. After reading through the specialty sandwiches on the board I didn't find one that I liked. I asked to make a sandwich, and the guys working the counter were super friendly and didn't give me a hard time at all. I did capicola, sopressata, prosciutto and provolone and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I got some pancetta and made awesome meatballs. The price was very fair. Fresh mutz was excellent. Italian rainbow pre-packed cookies were also very good, they had milk chocolate which was different. The only slight letdown was the italian bread. Some lady poked her head in and asked if they had an "Staten Island" bread left. I'm not sure what that was referring to, but the "italian" I ordered was more like a huge sub roll than a nice bastone with a crispy outer crust from calandras. Stopped in this weekend to pick up stuffed peppers, and when I went to cook them up yesterday they were filled with mold. When I called the store, the staff was rude and said there's nothing that can be done and they should of been cooked earlier. 4 days and food turns to mold. $25 down the drain. Catered a birthday party from Pastosa. They cater all our parties. Always top notch and this was no exception. We ordered sausage and peppers, chicken franchese, roasted chicken, eggplant rollantini and of course, stuffed shells. It comes with salad but we substituted antipasto for a small upcharge. We originally ordered for 30 people but the list quickly grew to 38 adults and 7 kids. We were concerned and called to ask how much more food we should order. The person we talked to assured us the amount of food was enough for our guests and ordering more was a waste of our money. We appreciate their honesty and service which is partly why we always use them. They were right, we even had some leftovers. The antipasto was on the small side but well worth it. Top notch quality. Everyone raved about the food and we were equally pleased. They delivered the food hot, set it up and included bread, plates, napkins and utensils. I shop at Pastosa Ravioli numerous times a month but once a month I treat my breast cancer doctor and his 2 nurses to lunch at Pastosa Ravioli. Every man working behind the counter is wonderful, but I personally connected to a young man whose name is Mike S. This young man goes above and beyond for me every time I go into the store to purchase the doctor's lunch. The doctor is very picky with specific details on how he wants his sandwich. Mike S. listens carefully to how I describe the doctor's sandwich and then Mike S. immediately goes into the bread box to choose the softest hero roll. After he completes making the sandwich Mike S. then takes the time to cut the sandwich hero into 2 pieces and wraps and labels each piece of the sandwich. This takes an extra kind, caring, patient worker. Today my doctor emailed me to thank me for one of the most delicious sandwiches he has eaten in such a long time. In NJ its hard to find real authentic italian food. Especially the bread. From the cheese to the stuffed artichokes i can easily spend 200$ in there! There we were on our way to the Englishtown flea market when low and behold out of the corner of my eye I see what at first I thought was a mirage . . . . . A Pastosa Ravioli sign. I slammed on the brakes and hit a hard right into the parking lot . . . Thankfully my guardian angel must have had my back at that moment since I did not get rear ended, nor did I plow into anyone as a screeched to a halt into a parking spot.. I was glad to see that I was wrong . . . it was not a mirage . . . . but the real thing - Pastosa Ravioli .. . A little piece of AWESOME! . . .alive and well on Union Hill Road in Manalapan NJ just minutes from my house and on the way back home from work. All the while I had been telling my wife about my memories of how amazing Pastosa's was, and how I hoped that all these years had not made them slack on quality. We quickly got out of the car, with our little guy at our side and walked as fast as possible to the store. We went up and down every aisle (like four in total) . . . and ended up getting about $100 worth of ravioli, fresh pasta, fresh sauces (marinara, alfredo and vodka), fresh mozzarella and yes fresh bread. Now, I am not one to accept anything but homemade sauce - or gravy as many folks I know call it - but I have to say if you do not have time to cook your own, the fresh sauce at Pastosa's is the only substitute - nothing else is even remotely acceptable in this category . . . If you try it you will understand. As for the fresh mozzarella - the best I have had in years, same for the ravioli and the bread. Everything was delicious . . . We are still eating through the stockpile of pasta . . . Sauce was history in short order as we polished it off by making pizza. Being yelp is mostly about restaurants, just so that there is no confusion . . . . those of you that know the name need no explanation . . . this is the real deal . . . .like a slice of Brooklyn right in our backyard!. . . However for those that do not, please do not break out a six pack or a bottle of Chianti and head over expecting a candle lit dinner, this is not a BYOB. Pastosa's is sort of like a salumeria/ Italian deli. They sell fresh pasta, meats, breads, and other imported and fresh made delicacies . . .
