I had a difficult time deciding but ultimately went with a Corned Beef and Pastrami Combo. The sandwich was huge (I split it with my mom) and the meat was super tender. The rye bread was super soft and pillowy. I was really happy with my choice. There's some diner-style seating inside but we were in a bit of a rush so we took our food to go. You know I really like this place but there's one thing the bugs the heck out of me. I VERY RARELY give any place a 5 star and I would have given this place a 4 Star which is my ultimate rating. Maybe it's me but the Rye bread on the hot pastrami sandwiches are cut too thin. When the pastrami is nice and hot it can make the bread so soft that it doesn't hold up like it should. The bread needs substance. Other than that service is very good, menu selection is great, food comes out delicious. An 1/8- 1/4 inch thicker bread would do the trick. That's my opinion. read more

waiter was excellent as always. the male by the cashier, who I presumed may have been one of the owners was another story. We just finished dinner spent just about $200.00 . We then ordered an item to go for $15.00 which he put in a paper bag . We asked for a plastic bag and he raised his voice telling me we already had a bag with our leftovers . The same was completely full. Obnoxious would be too kind. He admonished me telling me these bags are 15 cents. I said but I come here all the time, I just had dinner here. I am am attorney. We frequent this restaurant however, lately the owner and counter staff are less than a pleasure to deal with. We always place large takeout orders, but this time I ran in for a sandwich and a few other items for my elderly mother. One of the items I ordered was a corned beef sandwich. I was t certain what was included so I inquired if the very small container of coleslaw came with it because I know mom likes that. The bald, older man behind the counter rudely said "no it is not included with the order." It wasn't what he said, it was how he said it. It was as if he was doing me a favor taking my order. Not for nothing but this container is no larger than a 25 cent piece and if he were a smart businessman, he would have been more than happy to just throw it in. I had a very substantial order and I'm certain he made enough money off of this order to include it. In any event, I didn't expect it for free. I can eat anywhere with my money so this is their loss. Hubs and I have been wanting to give this place a try but we keep forgetting about it. We finally remembered as we were driving by and decided to stop here on our way to Costco. We were immediately seated after arriving and ordered the following: Bowl of Mushroom Barley Soup- this was delicious. Hubs missed it and haven't had it for a long time. It was nice and thick. Homemade sweet potato knish- . This was surprisingly good and sweet. It reminded him of knishes from NYC, except it was puffier and fluffier. Potato Pancake- this was ok. Hubs had latkes in mind and was surprised that this was literally a pancake. Hot Pastrami Sandwich- this was pretty soft and flavorful. We had a choice of salad and chose cucumber salad. It was nice, light and refreshing. I got a 7 layer cake slice to go and was very disappointed with this. I found out it's made with margarine and I guess I'm not a margarine fan. We saw a sign that had salmon tips for 7.99/lb. Service was friendly and quick. Will return next time for dinner! read more

My wife and I last night were in the mood for deli, so decided to go to Pickled Herring. Arrived about 5:45pm, restaurant was not busy, we asked to sit at a table and they walk us to the back. Usually when you sit down a few mins late they bring over water and pickles- none. Looking at the menu a couple sits down next to us that staff seems to know well. Immediately they get water and pickles. We ask the waitress and she goes and fetches them, no sorry, nothing. Not really a big deal, but part of the overall story. We order, my wife and I both have soup- mushroom for her, matzoh ball for me. She orders a pastrami on rye, I ordered a brisket on rye and we share a potato pancake. Soup is fine, meal comes out. I am about 1/2 way through the first half of my sandwich when I discover a hair in it! I call the waitress, who says "ok, want me to ask them to remake it, or would you like something else?" I opted for a turkey on rye instead. A few mins later another woman brings over the sandwich and says "not sure how that got in there, all the guys in the back are bald" and walks away. I felt as if she was insinuating I somehow put a hair in my sandwich. Never "we sorry this happened", nothing. The bill comes and they charged me for the sandwich! really? Ok, at least comp a soup, or the 2 Dr. Browns sodas, something. Nope, Nothing and not a word from anyone again about the incident, no apologies, as if it never happened. I have read other reviews about the staff being rude. 100% true, one of the reasons why we don't go there as often as we would like. I've been to the Pickled Herring many times. The food is really just okay - I keep returning as it's only 5 minutes from where I live. My go to meal is a pastrami on rye and a side of fries. The fries are very good. The pastrami is a bit on the bland side. If you eat in the restaurant you get a side of coleslaw included. If the sandwich is to go you have to add it to the order (about $2 for a tiny side cup). The coleslaw dressing is quite thin (it's not creamy enough). Prices are good. Fred and Murray's is a much better choice, but at a higher cost (Fred and Murray's is also kosher). read more

The man, who wears glasses, has white hair and a beard, is extremely disrespectful to one of the guys, who's probably in his 20s, behind the deli. Food is excellent but should do a machine with number calling for deli takeout because 2 people cut in front of me because setup is not organized. Pastrami sandwich done right away but had to wait awhile for my onion rings. Counter where you pay the one woman a little rude had to ask for an extra mayo and gave me a hard time when I asked for plastic knife so I could spread on sandwich. In fact I had to say what do you expect me to use my finger. Also when they make your sandwich to go their back is to you so you can't see your sandwich. So for a pastrami on rye with onion rings came to $28.40. Also charged the 3 percent for using credit card. But must say was all delicious. We are regulars at this establishment, and the food never dissapoints. They make excellent kreplach, and the kreplach soup reminds one of Grandma's :) Great burgers, great knishs's. The pastrami is good, but Ive been to Katz's many times, and I judge any pastrami I eat by the Katz's quality. So Ill say, it's good pastrami, but not Katz's. Good brisket. They also make a french dip sandwich that is excellent, roast beef and provolone, with Au Jus on the side. Very Good. Brisket Knish...AWESOME. If youre in the mood for good deli, highly recommended. This is the quintessential Jewish deli! My husband and I finally made it here and we really liked it. For a Wednesday evening, it was very busy, which is always a great sign! The dining area is nice and updated with a decent number of tables, all of which were occupied. We gobbled them up! We ordered 3 mini potato pancakes for a little "nosh" before our meals. They were nice and crispy (just how my husband likes them) and came with a side of apple sauce. They were really good! The only thing that would make it better is if it came with some sour cream too. I was having trouble deciding between a few options but settled on the turkey club sandwich. It came with a generous mound of fresh turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato in between 3 layers of toasted white (you can pick white, wheat or rye) and a side of their coleslaw and some mayo. I love coleslaw and theirs is real good! My husband obviously ordered a Sloppy Joe. It was packed with the usual 3 meats: roast beef, turkey, and corned beef/pastrami. Right off the bat he noticed the pastrami was still warm and that was a game- changer for him. He's had many sloppy Joes in his time but the warm pastrami raised his eyebrows! The sandwiches are big and we only managed to finish half of ours, but we definitely asked for a box and brought the other halves home. Im definitely going to try something new next time.
